  • Hey kids! Cast iron cookwear has the most durable and healthiest nonstick surface. But it requires a bit of special handling to keep it in good shape and well seasoned. Here are some tips to get you started.

You look too young to have bought that pan 20 years ago 😅

That's not true about the soap. I bought a new cast Iron by Lodge and it said "After each meal, hand wash you cookware, dry promptly, and apply a thin layer of cookig oil to the entire surface". I was told never to use soap on the cast Iron pan so, I contacted them. this is what they said,
"Thanks for reaching out. Back in the day, soap used to contain a lot more lye in it, and it would strip your cast iron. The soap we use nowadays, is very mild and does not contain a lot of lye so it is safe to use on your cast iron. After washing and drying, you need to rub cooking oil back on the surface before storing. You can use any oil you prefer for this process.
    Thank you,
    Kelly

Thanks for the comment. I’ve found over the years that using as little soap as necessary is best for the seasoning of the pan. Also heating the pan back up is a necessary step to remove all water.

Would love to hear the story of why a 20 year old is dressing like a grandma! Cute channel.

I've always felt cast iron was a necessary tool in the cooking line up. I've eaten too many amazing meals cooked in cast iron to go without.
