    With the XC line from KTM being the staple for trail/enduro riding, it was only a matter of time before the Japanese companies took their stab at creating an up-to-date line of bikes oriented towards cross-country riding. In this video, Justin tests out the competition in the brand new 2019 Honda CRF250RX, and compares it head to head with the Yamaha YZ250FX to see how they stack up against each other in all areas. So check out our evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of each and see which bike comes out on top.

    actually a good review, i dont plan on buying either bike but it told me where each bike shines, unlike a lot of the motocross reviews where (particularly recently) they tell you what each bike does badly. i would much rather they show where the bike shines and who would be a good fit on it. you guys nailed that

      Ya the reliability of yammys and Honda's is unmatched..go to vintage races all mostly yzs quite a few elsinores. Which only a few were sold compared to rms and yzs..from '76 to '82..but there they are still rolling..sadly the rms were the cream of the class inmost instances but rattled themselves to death and it's a dam shame

    Nice you mentioned the vibration. There's a lot of people with carpal tunnel or other problems that might really appreciate that tip most ignore. That or like me want something you can just take it for joy ride all day and aren't racing and you want to reduce fatigue as much as possible. I've been kind of looking for one that's really smooth and vibration free without going to 4 wheels. Be real nice to see that input on all your videos. Thanks!

    Awesome unbiased review. Between the two I would get the Yamaha. Although I loved my crf250x; and if the RX is anything like that it would definitely be a great bike. I was in the market last year and when it came down to it, I went with the KTM. You can find left over models for almost the same price. Having all 3 brands in the past KTM's build is at a higher level. The hydro clutch alone is worth the couple hundred dollar OTD price tag. I would say KTM is a few years ahead. Although I wold he content with any of them.

    As far as the softer suspension (yamaha) that's why have clickers/adjustment - dial in the suspension for your style/weight or terrain. Many factors to consider when dialing in suspension. As most of us know YZ KYB is pretty much as good as it gets.

    I'm born and raised Honda, but until they take making an off-road bike seriously I'm stuck with KTM/Husky. 2 stroke, clear tank, 6 speed, hydraulic clutch, great brakes and a semi close transmission. Oh and let's not forget the huge weight savings.

    • @simonsryd1
      @simonsryd1 5 років тому +1

      Sam Thompson hey why don't you have a look at the other European bikes? Gasgas, beta and sherco are taking shares even if the orange bikes dominates in European forests.

    • @samthompson3184
      @samthompson3184 5 років тому

      @@simonsryd1 I've ridden GasGas 300s before, as my brother and cousin both owned them. They were good bikes but I disliked their forks and the feel of them, stink bug feel with really soft forks. The air filter was an epic PITA to get in and out. Also they don't have the support network here and let's not forget they are like 20lbs heavier than the competition. Betas are good but they are small and their 300s engines have a snooze worthy feel to them, too electric, linear and boring. The cockpits feel really cramped like they are made for 5'6" people, where huskies/KTM feel nearly identical to Honda. I'm impressed with Sherco, they seem like great bikes (never ridden one), but can never see myself going back to a non-counter balanced two stroke, they are simply too good.

    I have the CRF250RX, main riding buddy has a 2018 YZF250FX (beautifully set up), we agree that the YZF is the better go slow, trail riding, riding at a relaxed pace versatile choice...... BUT.... if you want to go fast, you want to race, then you want the Honda, the Honda is a bit stiffer, feels more aggressive and makes you want to attack and ride fast, very fun bike. I could be happy with either bike, but I bought it to race, so the Honda was the right choice for me, I love my new CRF250RX!!

    I have a 2015 crf250 that's I've put 3 years on. I'm not a fan of the air forks when riding in rocks, even after getting them revalved. I also don't like that the power gets a bit flat when your wringing it out. I'm thinking the RX might be a better bike for me for riding 50/50 track and trail.

  • @Miasdaddy7
    @Miasdaddy7 4 роки тому +9

    Comparing these two bikes has always been questionable to me. I'm a desert racer/offroad racer myself and the thing that bugs me the most is that your comparing apples and oranges. The crf250 and 450 Rx are not an offroad bike, they are more towards a gp or worcs bike at the most. Because those races are still more of a motocross style race then an offroad style race like hare and hounds, hare scrambles, enduro's. The Rx to me is a motocross bike with an 18in rear wheel. It doesn't have a wide ratio gearbox it use the same transmission as the motocross bike and the suspension is much stiffer still to absorb the bigger jumps, and what the guy said about it staying up in the top of the stroke is better. That is not a good suspension setup there is 12in of travel why would you only want to use it all. That setup will beat you to death in an offroad race. I raced a 2010 yz450f for many years and trying to get it setup for offroad was difficult. I just recently bought the 2019 yz450fx and the suspension was a bit stiff still even for it being softer then its motocross brother. In the rocks the causes it to deflect off rocks and makes it very difficult to ride in those sections. So I changed to a softer fork oil and now it's perfect and I hammer through whoops and I'm using the full range of the suspension and it handles perfectly. The fx style bikes are very good offroad bikes and that's why a lot of offroad racers have switched to them. They have wide ratio gearboxes, 18in rear wheel, better power delivery for offroad and a better suspension setup. If you want an offroad style honda then buy the 250x or 450x.

    The Honda pulled away in 5th gear because it was designed to have a total of 5 gears. (duh) Yamaha didn't need 5th gear to be that fast cuz they put a 6 speed in it.

    Having ridden both of these bikes, I would say the Yamaha wins the day simply on the ability to lug stupid low in first gear and having better ratios and more gear selection available than the Honda. The Honda pulls a little harder in the lower rpm range, but the Yamaha feels much stronger from 3rd gear up. The Yamaha feels lower and more agressive to me. Very plush and predictable. Both great bikes, but I prefer the Yamaha. On a side note, the Honda I rode had issues restarting when hot. The Yamaha was flawless and ran perfectly right out of the box.

      Yeah Yamahopper is as durable as it gets, im a red bike guy but blue is better right now. Its better than all of em.....it goes in cycles. I am 50....when i was a kid it was Jeremy McGrath on honda and jeff ward on green....long time ago, but Yamahaw always had the clinch your ass permagrin midrange that was the badass brand. It was the MOPAR of bikes, the Nazareth of classic rock. I live em all.....btw i have a honda cause dammit i like em and they have that comfy feel.....yamaha has that "oh shit, i may have f'd up feel" 😐 but make no mistake, Suzuki is the champ for the working man guy that wants to go fast, yellow is coming back soon.

    When is team green gonna get into the off-road scene?!! Need them to get back into the 2 stroke scene to battle ktm and husky. Bought a 18 gasgas xc250 cause I wanted something different. Glad I did cause it came with a hydraulic clutch, FMF exhaust, magura brakes, electric start, 6 speed wide ratio transmission and Excel rims for $6,600 and its frickin awesome...last model on the floor. Wouldve bought a Yamaha but they just won't install a electric start and still is only a 5 speed. Just need more options without the extreme price tags...

    Come on guys, we all know that the Yamaha's and the Honda's are awesome, we need some different stuff you need to cover, like the GPX FSE 250's or something. I know it's Chinese, but recently Ever-ride covered one of them and was impressed. I just want more information and more opinions on the bikes.

    Hi Justin -
    Do you still ride the Honda? Or did you get a '21? I'm looking at these two bikes and the 2021 model. So hard to choose! As a matter of fact I'm on the way to both dealers right now. After riding the Honda for a while, what have been your thoughts.
    I listen to a review on the RX for 2020 and the engine seemed to be a lot better than the 2019... picked up a bit more low and mid. Let me know! I'm about to pull the trigger!

    • @rmatvmc

      Funny you ask. I just did a final video on the RX yesterday (filmed anyway). I am always switching bikes up. I just got a 20 KTM 250XC 2-stroke. However, I loved the 250RX. We just put a Cylinder works 270 big bore kit in it and was surprised at the grunt it gained. Still rips on top too! My brothers have new YZ250FX bikes as well, so I have ridden them a bunch. Also great bikes! You can't go wrong with either, but I think I would go with the new YZ250FX. The suspension is better and the motor feels a little more free-reving. At the same time, I haven't ridden a 20 or 21 RX and I am sure Honda has made it even better than my 2019. Again, I would be happy with both. Let me know what you end up with. - Justin

      @@rmatvmc thank you Justin! I'm going to look at the 2021 yz250fx in the AM again. I saw the Honda CRF250rx the other day... seemed to have some fitment issues that I want
      Wasn't digging. Exhaust and muffler seemed to be assembled poorly and a few other minor things. I'm mainly worried about ergonomics between the 2 bikes. I'm 6'3 190. I had the Yamaha isn't great...need a tall seat... maybe that will fix that? Honda...I don't know. Have not ridden it. Seems the Yamaha is a better package. I wish honda would step up to meet the FX on a few things.

    If anyone could help with a question I’d really appreciate it. Since the two bikes have different ratios, does having a wide ration mean less shifting up? For example, say the RX and FX were side by side going down a road in 2 or 3rd gear, which one will reach the rpm limit and would have to shift up first? I hope that makes sense

    Hi. How will ride the Honda CRF 250rx in dunes and sand circuits? I ride a 2018 Husky FE 450 and I love it, but I am tired because all the mechanical and electric problems, and the bad service in my country.
