thirft / yard sale in richer city and towns, more money = better quality clothes, jewelry etc.
I totally agree with not watching UA-cam while listing or working. It does take away too much time from work.
Good point about not going through every hanger in the thrift store, feel like I have to while still learning though. Looking forward to not having to look up as much in store as well. I don't think I can give up youtube while listing though!
Loved hearing your perspective on these things, Cayley! Always great to learn from ones experience to get better, faster and more effective!!
Thank for tip I have to chill with listing everyday, I work full time and listing take time and before I know it time to go to bed. One tip is I quit watching multiple reseller everyone does something the last said don’t do. I decided to set up my business in the way it works for me.
Good call! This is going to make a big difference for you. Hope it's less stressful.
I agree with you. Great video although it is true i try not to watch multiple reseller videos :-) because it overwhelms me with different stuff. LOL
I still like to watch multiple resellers since I can see different points of views, and you can pick and choose what works for you.
Thanks for sharing! Been enjoying these frequent uploads! ☀️
Yes Thrift stores in my area are a joke! I stopped going a long time ago. Thanks for the tips!
So glad I found your channel! These tips are great! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!!
Really great applicable content! It's nice to see how others run their business. I also like to focus on efficiency.
This video is very awesome. You hit on a ton of important things! I am glad I stumbled on your channel!

Great advice!
Great video. I've adjusted my sourcing route to include stores further away, but getting more items that yield a better ASP.
Awesome!!!!
Very helpful info that I'm going to try. I've also recently stopped picking up items I have to do a lot of spot cleaning or repairs, unless its a valuable (at least $50 profit) item. I've wasted a lot of time working on stains.
Great advice!!
OMG I've been saying the same thing about the multitasking and having so much going at one time. Right now I have you coming on in the background which is funny you're telling me to turn you off🤣. Not ready to give up UA-cam on the second screen but, I do see how it is a hindrance🤦🏽♀️ I just found uall the other night loving you gals videos informative, thanks👍🏽
Thx for the tips & ideas. I've binge watch your videos. I too no longer listen to UA-cam while listing. I try to be more efficient. I too do only hanger pics. I block out times to do the most important things of that day. I love going to the bins. It's close to my house. I go early, spend 3 hrs & one day a week there. I pay $100 bucks for about 75-90 pieces of clothing. Im definitely more pick now that I know what brands sell quick in several platforms. I diversify to multi platforms bc once the only platform I was using thought I was a robot bc of how quickly I share my items & put my account on hold for 1 day!! I source for buy sell trade stores, Thread up, Ebay & Posh. I normally recoup the $100 in the first 3 days. I have to stay focused otherwise my time runs away from me.
Best Wishes,
Melinda
WOW! You are working hard!!! Sounds like you've really got your system down. I'm going to try ThredUp soon, after they work out their changes. 😊
Thanks that was really helpful. I’ve been selling vintage decor for awhile now in between running a brick and mortar and my tried and true is not to waste my time or money on low profit items. I shoot for a minimum of a $35-40+ profit. Just started selling new and vintage clothing and that’s such a different arena for me so this video was very helpful.
Great video. The point you made about making sure there is a balance between quality (of the listings/photos) and quantity is well taken. I tend to focus on making quality listings but for one off items (most of my eBay store), I will try to find ways to speed up my listing process so I can get more listings done. I do watch UA-cam videos while listing and it is a distraction. Music it is :)
I do my best to list every day by either creating new listings or pushing drafts I prepared earlier in the week.
Cheers,
Julien
Good luck!!
Great tips! Thank you so much ❤️
Hello! New subscriber here. :) Great tips! I shop at thrift stores in a similar way to you. I just can’t go though everything. I pick my favorite categories (dresses and shoes) and hit those first, then I skim the rest of the store quickly looking for quality items.
Hi!! Great strategy. To be honest, I need to try and start honing in on just a few categories and try not to spread myself so thin.
These are some very helpful tips thanks for putting together this video
Thanks, I will give these a try.
I make a reseller playlist and play that while I’m working so I don’t have to stop to find a new one and they just play in a row
Good tip!
I know a quality garment. I know fabric by touch, but I am learning brands. I do flip through nearly every hanger because I am filling up my eyes with brands and tags to match up those quality garments with corresponding brand names. But I definitely will switch to the overall browsing method. But first I need to know if I can sell a mint condition no-name vs. a shabby name brand item better. I am also glad you recanted a bit on the daily listing. As a mom, if I can get through my dead pile in one night when my household is in bed, well it's all getting done in one sitting and the algorithm is gonna have to forgive me! I want to do some videos to document my hauls to monitor my progress...
These helped me greatly!! Especially the multi tasking tip! I have to stop! Thanks again!
Glad to hear!! 💕
I know I've seen this video before, but I am so forgetful and it's been 9 months and I feel like I've changed SO much in terms of sourcing. my list is specifically book related.
1. I don't pick up every book that catches my attention, i focus on what I know will sell
2. speaking of saving time, I've been looking at List Perfectly v. Vendoo after hearing your video w/ Essential Endeavors
3. I used to stress out trying to list every day, 10-15 items on each platform but i found what works for me is listing Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in batches
4. Focus on the Essentials. I actually talk about this in my Productivity episode, but like your saying, time is so valuable. I think it's more valuable than money.
5. My inventory is organized, I can see clearly what's Listed v. What Needs to be Listed
I always feel like I'm at school takin' notes when i watch your vids so had to post what I was thinking :D
Yay! So good to hear! Wishing you lots of sales. 💕
I’ve learned in one of my college classes that there is no such thing as multi tasking. Our brains switch very quickly from one task to another and back. That being said, you are right about not doing that. I usually listen to podcasts to feed my brain while doing “mindless” activity. By mindless, I mean tasks that I automatically do without thinking. I just started reselling to get rid of items that I don’t need to get some of my money back. I’ve been trying to go minimalist. Then, I got furloughed because of coronavirus, so now I’m doing it to make some money. While at a thrift store, I have always been “scanning” items because I don’t like shopping! Also, I found one of those half forms at GW for $6. I rarely ever use it and and have stuck to using a hanger. I do try to take great photos the first time around to cut people from asking me questions. The one thing I hate the most are doing the descriptions. I want it to be accurate, so I research them. I’m slowly coming to grips that it not always practical, but my OCD personality won’t let it go. 😬 All your tips have not only made you more efficient, but also effective. Great tips! 🤙🏻
I know what you mean about OCD personality. I spend a lot of time researching too. Something I'm working on. Wishing you tons of sales during this time!😊
WOW! I'm guilty of most of these - I really really appreciate it, I spend so much time in thrifts going over every single piece. Yes, to getting more items listed. I was in the process of changing my photo set up to in my walk in closet - I sell luxury vintage fashion only. THank you thank you for the tips
Glad they helped!
I have tried the scanning racks idea and many times I leave with nothing...Lol!! Great ideas!!
All great information for sure. I know you are right about the mannequin but I am not ready to give her up quite yet LOL I don't have the best lighting yet. I am going to ask Santa for a lighting kit. So right now I take photos and then run them through pictapgo... it's a process for sure. Like you I like to batch. I batch based on the sourcing venue. I Don't look at everything in a thrift store either. I am not interested in kids, dresses, or formal wear. I steer clear of the out of season right now as well. I have a couple of Salvation Army stores and a fantastic thrift store only. Garage sales were very good to me this past summer but as the weather changes, there are less and less of them.
Lol!! It took me awhile to give up my mannequinns. They make a photo look better for sure. Are you taking photos near a window? I think natural light is really pretty for photography.
Very helpful!!
Very helpful. Thank you.
I spend two days listing 70-100 items for the week, then push out a few everyday
Smart!
This is exactly what I do! I take photos of a ton of things then I post maybe 5-7 per day
I like to listen to poshmark tips / tricks on my headphones with my phone in my back pocket. There's slightly less opportunity to get distractedvtgat way. I also love listening to long 1-2 hour podcasts in the background when working. Unsure if that works for you, but just a suggestion!
Wow, this video is exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you so much for the tips! I am guilty of so many of the things you mentioned and am so slow at everything I do. I really want to give your sourcing method a try (I'm a 4hr look through everything person ugh), stop using the mannequin, and stop multi-tasking. At least for a while and see how much more I'm able to accomplish. Would you mind if I made a video on my experience trying out your tips?
Of course not! I don't mind. Hope these tips help. ☺
@@cayleyelaine Sounds good! Thank you 😊 I’m using videos as motivation to actually get things done haha. It’s pretty effective.
I watch/listen to UA-cam videos about reselling while shipping. Shipping is the easiest part of our business (in my opinion) so that’s when I feel like I can split my attention some. I have music on most of the time while working now or will sometimes listen to a podcast.
As long as it works for you that's all that matters!
Great tips
What's your opinion on flat lays? I have nice wood floors to take pictures on, but my walls are not very photogenic (weird colored walls and spots/ chips on my white walls). Do you consider hangers superior to flat lays in general?
Hi! I used to do only flatlays and switched to the hanging method for a few different reasons. 1. I wanted a white background to make my SEO better and I already had a white wall. 2. The hanging setup took up much less space than my flatlay setup. 3. I personally think it looks better on a hanger (more like a store). 4. It saves me sooooo much time using the hanging method vs the flatlay once I got used to it. With flatlays I was having the rearrange and smooth the garment everytime I flipped it over. 5. My back no longer hurts trying to take photos by bending over for flatlays (the main reason I switched). My suggestion is to just do what works best for you and stick with it! If you like flatlays do that, but if hanging method sounds better give it a shot. If you want to achieve a white background but your walls are not white, all you really need is a solid light colored background and then you can use an app like Fotofuze to turn the background white. I don't think there's anything wrong with a wood grain background (I used to have one) but if you want the added benefit of your items showing up in Google search, they suggest a clear white background. Hope this helps!
TYFS 🎃
I am so guilty of playing things in the background that need my constant attention, every now and then I am good and just listen to music but when working alone it almost acts as fake coworkers, sounds crazy
Great video!! How would someone know if the area will have good thrift stores and better brands?
I don't know the first time. It's all trial and error for me. 😊
I am loving all your videos, and am learning a lot. How do you price your items?
I price by checking sold comps on Ebay.
Cayley Elaine also, on clothes that don’t have rage, do you launder them all or only in certain circumstances? Same with purses?
@@carlazona4944 I usually on wash or steam clothes when necessary. For purses I usually use a disinfectant wipe or leather conditioner.
Cayley Elaine and one last question ( sorry) do you measure all your clothes? If so what all do you measure? When measuring the length of an item where is the top point?
@@carlazona4944 no problem! Yes, I always do measurements. It depends on the type of clothing but I usually do 2 measurements. Pit to pit and length for tops and dresses. Length is measured from back of collar to bottom hem or top of shoulder to bottom hem. For pants, waist and inseam.
Don't know if you've covered this but do u counter lowball offers on Poshmark or ignore? Thanks!
I usually just keep countering. It's good to keep activity in your store.
couldn't you save a few listings as drafts and then 'launch' them on days you don't list, so the algorithms will still see you "listing" every day even though you don't actually create the listings (just make them live) every day? i've heard a few people recommend that, did you try that?
This is an older video. We currently schedule all of our listings on Ebay. Scheduling on Ebay is now free!
@@cayleyelaine ah i see, i just subscribed so will catch up on your newer videos!
I tried listening to true crime podcasts while listing and it was not good. I would zone out and miss most of the content or in order to concentrate, I’d have to turn it off. Music is the best thing for me too.
I love true crime TV shows! So I KNOW that would not work for me lol.
Hi Cayley! I have a question: Do you post items every day or you have a day dedicated to it? About how many per week?
I'm trying to find a better schedule to organize my tasks.
Hi! I list roughly 50-75 items a week. I have someone who drafts everything for me. I usually sit down and set 15-20 live every other day. Everyone's schedule and work style is different. I would say just focus on whatever you can consistently commit to and you will see results!

I discovered you about a month ago and I’ve been going back systematically in watching your videos…
Reading these comments I discovered you have someone prepare your drafts-Could you go over how you found someone who does all your drafts for you?- that would be epic ❣️
Thank you
@@flightattendantflipper6916 hi! Long story short, I asked my friends on Facebook if they'd recommend anyone. I had a couple of people interested and I interviewed them to find the best fit. I like having someone local (vs an online va), it makes it easier to train if needed.
I am so discouraged I'm ready to burn all of my stuff and my murano glass and my american pottery
Don't do that!
@@cayleyelaine Do you know of any personal seller coaches?
@@fortunazee I'm not familiar enough with any to recommend them.
How can I still resell in another country
I'm not familiar with selling in other countries.
.........I just bought a mannequin. LOL I mostly use it for dresses and such, and I have a small PT operation but it is time consuming. Only stopping to look at the higher quality items is definitely for a more seasoned reseller. You have to know how high quality feels and looks. I still have to look and check comps on most items. I have cheap taste apparently, because 75-90% goes back on the rack! I have been considering driving to other thrift stores, or buying liquidation lots. My Goodwill consistently sells AE jeans at $10-15 and Lucky jeans at $25! But it's probably a good 1+ hr drive to get to a good store... maybe. *sigh* Location location location.
Lol! No shade for mannequins, I still use mine from time to time. They make an item look great!
What is considered full price at goodwill? Lol
Depends on where you live. Where I live, most things are only $4-$5.
