It feels like the entire album is meant to be played from beginning to end, both live and listening at home. Then again, I might be biased since my first and (sadly) only time seeing NIN live was at the first Lollapalooza.
It’s one of my favorite albums of all time and by far my favorite NIN album. Downward Spiral is probably “objectively” better but PHM was the first album I knew every lyric to and became obsessed with when I was 7-8. It was the first album I heard where I adored every song from start to finish. It’s a masterpiece for sure, even if it’s a little less mature than his later work.

The only way to improve it would be if they included that final verse. It's the one that hits the hardest, idk why they removed it for the new live version
Pretty great somebody put this whole thing together, even with the more rare songs and the songs from that era that weren’t on the album as well. Those guitar parts in that’s what I get give you a shiver…

That "Newark, pipeline" version of "kind I want to" that full video is awesome!🎹🎸💀💫😵👌 That version of "kind I want to" along with that Night's version of "ringfinger" has Richard Patrick doing a badass guitar outro especially on ringfinger! I had that bootleg on a tape a friend of mine made up for me along with a bunch of other "nothing" artist. Some live Manson, the video for "I am a pig" by "two". A few other ones like the "animal" video by "prick". It was called "2 hours of nothing" He named it. There's also video footage of them live at "The Warfield, SF, CA" in 94 on the self-destruct tour where there's a version of "suck" on there where Robin does this sick Fucking guitar sound during the second verse of "suck".
Started to feel the chills with "Head like a hole" and grabbed my chest, only to realise I unknowingly had on my Black Mirror NIN t-shirt. Serendipity.
What the...? At 26:00 more or less, that synth arrangement isn´t straight out "The Knack" from the british band Squeeze? Some Jool Holland's influence there? Love it either way
@@TheDistressedSetlist Wow, pretty cool, thanks for the info! It does sound a lot like the reference I said, but it's from a 1979 song I think so who knows, maybe just coincidence. Anyway, it fits the song like a glove! Awesome

Did they ever play maybe just once live? That would be the only thing that would Cap this off and make it 100%, maybe also some better tape quality and ring finger, jus sayin. I don’t care about purest feeling, that song is a studio joke to me and I think it is to Trent
They played Maybe Just Once and Twist at this date (the *only* audio source for either song live) but there was no video recording of either, and the audio quality was fairly poor, so I left them both out. As for Ringfinger, I searched through every 88-91 live source. That was the best quality, video and audio.
