Technically in brothership we’re in different worlds than dream team so maybe the magmas and icead are a species Luigi dreamed of a species that was in a different world
Here's a useless fact for you. Snoutlet is so far the only character to when needed to say something, they come out of Luigi and not Mario. Previous games had Stuffwell, Starlow and Prince Dreambert only come out of Mario, but in this game, Snoutlet comes out of Luigi. Which makes sense since Luigi was the first brother to get onto ShipShape Island and meet Connie and Snoutlet.
How did I know this, well I was looking back at some old gameplays of previous entries and noticed how Stuffwell, Starlow, and Prince Dreambert only ever come out of Mario while Snoutlet is the only one who comes out of Luigi
It's very nice to give luigi to be in the spotlight because in some few luigi always to be the back side than mario. Even mario and luigi with Paper mario, they just bully luigi personally. But this gives some respect to luigi, and I like that
10:35 Peasley's reef saying he's slow in racing is, at least as I interpreted it, a reference to the running gag of how the Mario Bros. always get to places before him!
And (at least in my perspective) utterly useless as a partner more times than not. Since all that he has going for him is his flaunty self-centered personality portrayed as a flying noble super hero who ends up in trouble a lot. Don't get me wrong I love the guy, but... dude. Polish something other than your hair for once lol
3:04 Just a theory, but maybe Luigi just happened to know about the real life counterparts of these creatures (that appear in Brothership), and they just happened to appear in his dreams? It'd explain why their mechanics are entirely different too, as dreams can very easily modify how you imagine something
Not everything in the dream world is something luigi thought of, it's likely the creators who made those pillows and dream worlds knew of the other world in some way.
Or maybe they are creatures that are exclusively in Concordia, but since concordians also dream, maybe a few of them who were dreamed into existence by a concordian crossed over into the dream worlds in dream team (as dreams can be connected)
I mean, Concordia's just an entirely different dimension that Mario and Luigi were summoned to. It can very easily just be that those enemies are imaginary in their world and real in Concordia.
8:58 The Luigi Logic cutscene has different animations, so the devs actually adapted a couple victory animations of Luigi from past games for the poses he makes. Edit: Specifically, the pose he makes before dancing in the level up screen of Bowser's Inside Story and the pose he makes when winning a battle in Dream Team.
10:30 I got you on the Prince Peasley breakdown. "Glorious,Gleaming, and Glamorous Dude" A reference to how when he flips his hair, he flashes the screen white. Also, how people of the Bean Bean Kingdom see him as a celebrated hero "Bestrides the world like a Colossus." With his flying bean, he is able to get to wherever he needs to be for the story, and it suits his larger than life celebrity. "But when racing, he's in for awakening rude" He's in for a rude awakening, flipped so that it is a rhyming couplet. The race is a reference to the competition to collect the bean star pieces. "He's actu'lly as slow as molossus." A continuation of the bean star race, where in actuality, Prince Peasley never got a single star piece. He was so slow, in fact, that he had to be saved from an enemy DURING their competition.
A few more fun animations detail, The bros hammer attacks actually have a unique detail. Mario’s attack is the traditional swing down that has been seen in every game. Luigi’s meanwhile is the hammer chop from Dream Teams Giant Battles. Additional, Luigi appears to do the hammer uppercut from Dream Teams giant battles as well when he does the bros hammer attack for Mario. Another fun reference is in the Luigi logic animations, two of his poses at the end reference previous games. Both reference his level up poses, one references Bowsers Inside Story and the other references dream team.
@@electriclime3633 I feel more confident in saying they reference Luigi's hammer attacks in the Giant battles since the animations for him line up a lot more with those animations from the giant battles than any other attack in the series
From what I can tell, the base hammer and jump attacks that happen when both of the bros are active in battle is seemingly inspired by the Bro's moves from Super Star Saga, and the alternate versions when boosted by the Fire, Ice, and Dizzy plugs are also seemingly referencing the Advanced Bro's Moves.
So Fun Fact about the Jump Helmet and Yoo Who Cannon Both were planned for Dream Team (Jump Helmet has more complete sprites) and from the Cut Content the Helmet works exactly as it looks in the sprites Edit: Some of the Luigi-Logic end animations reference past games
Starlow’s little story reference to Bowser’s inside Story was one of my favorite acknowledgements of the story. Especially with how we never got much interactions after it
Having replayed Superstar Saga on NSO, The first line of Peasley’s reef poem throwing in “gleaming” as an adjective feels like a reference to how he would shine so bright the screen would white out. That and the second half of the poem references how Mario & Luigi would beat him to certain story beats.
Another late-game thing that references a Bros Attack! (Spoilers) When making the Jellyfish Pizza, the final big pizza have the bros repeatedly and rapidly take turns tossing topping onto the pizza, ending with a finale of BOTH bros tossing them at the same time. The poses and and animations are a clear reference of the Fire Flower Bros Attack from previous games!
5:05 Jump Helmet in BS likely takes inspiration from its planned appearance in Dream Team. There’s unused sprites (no coding sadly) of it in the files, where it would’ve acted the same, just with Luigi wearing the helmet as in BIS.
I guess to be fair, Shy Guys and Birdo originally came from the dream world into the real world. It’s not that weird that Iceads and Magmads could do the same
@genemelendez368 Shy Guys chronologically first appeared in Yoshi's Island when the Mario Bros were still babies, so the Shy Guys from SMB2 were probably just plain old Dreamy variants.
@@rainpooper7088 That's only in retrospect since SMB2 was their first appearence in order of game releases, and it wasn't even a Mario game to begin with: it was a completely original Nintendo IP (Yume Koujou: Doki Doki Panic) that failed commercially in Japan and was rebranded as a Mario game by Nintendo of America by replacing the main characters with Mario and pals, and it sold like hotcakes in the West. Also, Snifits, Bob-ombs, Pokeys and Ninjis are from this game as well.
Apparently, Nintendo released Super Mario bros 2 in Japan as "Super Mario bros USA" on NES two years after Super NES release (strange). But the critics were very mixed: many were dissapointed to play to a reskined version of Doki doki panic and some even said "the game is good only because the original was very good".
Guys did you know that mario bros 2 is not even a mario game? What the fuck???? Its actually a japanese game called harry potter and the fucking wizard
5:32 If the attack doesn't result in an Excellent, the capsule instead explodes like the rest of the bombs do. 6:05 After the attack ends, the bros land and strike a pose-- the same ones they did in Dream Team after landing a Jump attack on an enemy.
I don't have the answer, but considering there's not much info about it elsewhere online I feel like it has to be some kind of inside joke among his discord server, right? PJiggles isn't popular enough to manifest rumors out of nowhere, so their claims of rumors circulating seem false. Thought they don't even sound relatively similar, so I don't get what the joke part is... is there even one?
My smash corner was a smash UA-camr that made mostly tutorials throughout the lifespan of Smash for Wii U/3DS. He made some videos for Smash Ultimate but then in 2019 he vanished. I’ve known about his channel since 2014 so it’s really weird that his names being brought up randomly.
Here's some more attack animation references. The combo hammer attacks for Mario and Luigi are a reference to the finisher of Super Knockback Bros and most of Super Cyclone Bros respectively. The finisher of Yoo Woo Cannon can also be a reference to the Toad Trail attack.
3:15 Fan theory. Concordia is someone's dream that also incorporated parts of Luigi's dreams like in Dream Team's Big Massif's dream. Whose dream? Dunno. Haven't finished it or played it for that matter. As for how bowser and peach in the dream, anyone can enter the dream world so when the portal thing appeared at the beginning of the game it must've caught the attention of them and they went in as well. Why isn't it Dreamy Luigi? Because real Luigi went in as well. In any case, great vid Pjigs. 👍
To think that this game hasn’t gotten a game in 9 years and yet the old games STILL look good goes to show how Nintendo actually appreciate their creations.
15:00 There's another title screen that shows Shipshape in ruin after Bowser's army attacks it. You can see it when Mario & Luigi get stranded on Offandon Island
Given i finished my replay of mario and Luigi dream team right before brothership, that probably explains why I was like, “mario does BOTH of these two animations…” before just guessing one
8:54 After using the Max-Mix Vortex bros attack, Luigi would strike a victory pose reminiscent of when he would get an Excellent jump attack in Dream Team and Paper Jam!
The Prince one is referencing in superstar Saga how you had to awake him from being a dragon and also how he was slow to solving problems, and Mario and Luigi would beat him to it
14:20 Also it’s because canonically spicy chicken is bowser’s favorite food. One of the questions in Big Bad Bowser Brain Train is “Of Fawful's dishes, what was Bowser's favorite?” To which Bowser answers the spicy chicken. And another question is why he likes it and to which he says the delicacy and body. So Starlow really meant it when she said “your favorite” as Bowser directly states that the spicy chicken from Fawful was his favorite out of all his dishes.
Also notice the spicey chicken Starlow put on Bowser's head is still raw/uncooked until the end where the gang leaves, the goombas brought it back and its cooked for eating
8:54 A ton of animations were ripped from dream team. including the ones mentioned, mario and luigi's talking animations are referenced from that game, notably with luigi moving his arms up and down. They also have the same fainting animation, with mario falling on his face, and luigi falling on his back, even flipping his leg up dramatically. Their solo jump animations are also based on the ones from paper jam, where they do a flip with their arms out while facing the camera. Other random stuff I noticed; when mario and luigi first meet up on shipshape at the start of the game, and wash up on the starting island later, luigi crying in marios arms reminded me of when the same happened at the start of bowsers inside story. Also im pretty sure when dorrie arrives to shipshape for the first time, a character mentions how they dont want to become his lunch, which may be a reference to the sign near dorrie in mario 64
There’s a reference to the Fire Flower attack in the pizza-making segment on Jellyfish Island, and I believe Mario’s battle animation from Dream Team is used in the Great Conductor boss fight.
I think the reason why the Icead and Magmad are in the real world now is because they were always real. Luigi just saw them before and then started having dreams about them.
No, there is another reference to Paper Jam. If you notice, the mysterious swirled reef has a very similar appearance to the game as a whole (Edit: Compared to the rest of the series, I should clarify)
A little fact about the Luigi Logic animations is that they all reference different poses Luigi does The ones I remember is that some of them reference his level up animations, mainly from BiS and DT/PJ
I think the Zeekeeper and Prince Peasley reference points in the stories they ware in like the bean bean star awakening from burdo’s rude sounding voice or the battle agenst phantasma
Someone may have said this already, but I think the iron balls from Mario wonder might be the same iron ball that appears if you equip 2 iron ball plugs..
something you kind of missed: one of shy guys attacks is them raising a flag of either M or L, prompting you to jump with either mario or luigi. I thiiink this is a reference to that one pirate minigame in mario party where shy guy does the sameish thing
10:36 the Zeekeper might reference giant battles in Dream Team (which he partook in) Prince Peasley might reference the Bean Star which needed to be woken up (done by Fawfuls tech using Peaches voice) the Bean Star had a annoyed expression in that scene
I have another piece of trivia! With the syrup bottle animations, they have different versions depending on which bro drinks it. -If you use a syrup as your own bro, it does a brand new animation where your character holds it and drinks it like a bottle of juice -If you use syrup on a bro that youre not controlling, it does the legacy animation from the older games (syrup bottle floats, tips over, and one drop falls into their mouth)
10:35 the shroob poem could be in reference to the battle against elder princess Shroob The zeekeaper poem is in reference to how laid-back he was And the prince peasly poem is in reference to the race against Mario and Luigi to collect the four bean sprout pieces Edit: also the zeekeaper poem references antasma
6:30 one thing about this attack that wasn't mentioned was the pose the bros strike after getting an EXCELLENT. The two will take on the pose that they do when you preformed an EXCELLENT jump in Dream Team.
9:00 Another animation reference is after you preform Mix-Up Vortex, Mario & Luigi do a little cheery animation. That animation originates from Dream Team & Paper Jam, where they do it after you get an excellent on the standard jumping attack from those two games. I like to think since Luiginary Cyclone & Mix-Up Vortex are similar, it's just straight up a huge Dream Team reference.
1:59 speaking of way too overleveled (and this bugs the hell out of me) when I did the side quest to defeat sharkbone I was at 35 *and they’re level 40, so not too far off* and still every attack one shotted me, even to Luigi who is the TANKY bro* (they even have an awful team attack where both sharks repeatedly charge at you with a finisher move) oh now the developers are cocky now! They really should not still be one shotting you when you’re close to their level that’s what gets me so riled up.
Brent (King of Skill) did it at level 30 by equipping Attack Boost and Surprise Iron Ball (then one-shotted the other one with Jump Helmet) probably because he loves investing into attack
A small reference I really liked was the animation at the end of the Max-Mix Vortex attack When they're done and fall to the ground, Mario straightens his cap and Luigi is celebrating on one leg and with his fist in the air. Those are the same animations that were in Dream Team and Paper Jam after doing a normal jump attack.
12:44 could be an reference to paper jam or just an plain reference to TTYD in both cases since in TTYD you use the thin paper ability to go through jail cells and the like for items or story progression
3:15 my headcanon of Dream Team is that Luigi's dreams are based on his recent memory's (explaining the parallels with the real world and dream enemies looking similar to real enemies/objects and why we don't see Boo's/ghosts in his dreams). This means that Brothership has to take place before Dream Team this might also explain why Cap Naps are very different in Luigi's dreams (he had time to fantasize about them)
0:38 the color scheme and eye design are also reminiscent of Francis however that’s less likely what they were going for 7:45 That’s not entirely true, as Mario does also use barrel Luigi as a platform occasionally in said stealth sections
I'm 99% sure that in the great conductor boss fight, when you have to choose which of mario's idle animations is correct, one of the animations is a 3d adaptation of the one from dream team. Actually tripped me up when I first saw them :P
13:03 i think bowser's sliding punch is a reference to his overworld sliding punch ability in bowser's inside story, unlocked after the giant carrot minigame
I found a 2nd reference to paper jam: In one of the bowser cutscenes, he has the same laugh as the one that played before a boss battle in paper jam, it's not that much but i dont remember hearing that specific laugh in any other mario game
3:19 Remember, Concordia is another world that's not within the mushroom Kingdom or the other places the bros have been. So it's to be expected to run into weird enemies elsewhere where they are actually real. 😅
You should talk about excellent bros attacks having animation differences. (Aka if you miss a shot it functions like their original bros attacks, but if you hit EVERYTHING you get a perfect bonus) Examples -Yoohoo canon has the giant barrel at the end (it didnt in the old games) -Green shell does AOE if you hit every shot (normally it does target random, but no finisher) -Bomb derby has an AOE if you hit EVERY bomb (in the older games it didnt)
I would like to mention that the regular bowser fight has a lot of attacks from bowser inside story even with several brawl like moves with his minions
12:01 in the scene where the girls are talking about fashion, Starlow says that her real appearance is described as a beautiful, huge maiden, so that yellow, circular shape is a disguise.
Fun Fact Some of Luigi's poses whenever he gets a Luigi Logic moment, are reference of other games. For example: One of his poses comes from Inside Story when Luigi levels up and the other is from Dream Team and the remakes prior to Brothership when he gains experience after a battle
Not really a reference, but one trend that is continued for the entire series, and that is still true in BS, is that the bros are next to each other on the box art. Mario on the left, Luigi on the right. (Except in Superstar Saga, but I mean you can swap the bros order anytime there)
I think there's a reference you can add for the Bros. Attacks: Mario's final Bros. Attack, Conductor Connector, is a clear nod to his last Bros. Attack in Dream Team. In Dream Team, Mario's final Bros. Attack, Zee Egg, summons the Zeekeeper to fly into the air, launch a large orb of energy, and create a massive explosion that deals significant single- and multitarget damage. Similarly, in Brothership, we see the Great Conductor flying into space, charging up, and releasing a huge energy sphere, which also causes substantial single- and multitarget damage. While the mechanics of the attacks are quite different and the Great Conductor fires more of an energy beam than an orb, the parallels are striking. In both cases, Mario uses the power of a literal god, and the sequences share at least some sort of similarities. Considering all of these things, it seems likely that Conductor Connector was at least inspired by Zee Egg in Dream Team.
Idk if anyone noticed, but during the great conductor fight when you are deciding between the different Marios for the first time, the animations for the Marios are the idle battle animations of himself, Luigi and Bowser.
Peasly being called slow as molasses reffers to the fact that he'd often arrive at a plot point in the game after the Mario's had already finished everything
9:00 im pretty sure the single bros version of jump and hammer function visually identical to how they did in dream team (using jump or hammer when another bro is down or glohmed)
11:07 this is a Mario RPG/Mario Seven Stars reference where Mario can stand on certain things and get yelled at to make him get off of what he was standing on. The most famous one is standing on Chef Torte's cake. 2:29 The Magmad's and Icemad's are in the real world this time because this is not the Mario Luigi world. Concordia is a different world not connected to the Mushroom Kingdom.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how they directly acknowledge the events of Bowser Junior’s journey of all things in the side quest a true friend. Also in Bowser’s Castle you meet a Koopa who’s entire personality is making bad jokes and rhyming and that’s a reference to Captain Koopa Troopa from Bowser’s minions
Oh my god this is the first time I have ever heard of this game existing and the animations ARE FUCKING CRAZY!! What the hell I have never seen a game be animated this well before?!?!
Another cool thing i discovered regarding 13:01 The bowser punch alongside the entirety of bowsers boss fight in this game its filled with reference to older mario and luigi games The punch attack comes from dream team, when you fight bowser and antasma, including the bros going flying when they get hit by the attack When he gets enraged its actually a reference to bowsers inside story, when he goes into fury, his hair become fiery and he appears angry, they replicated this by making his hair literally turn into fire The big fire breath attack with the big black orbs its a reference to his boss fight in bowsers inside story when you encounter him by the fortune teller upon exiting his body with mario and luigi, with the only difference that in order to dodge the attack you previously used Starlow that would lift you up into the sky to dodge the fire, but starlow doesnt help you in this boss fight so instead you use the orbs to gain height to dodge it His shell attack its a reference to one of his brawl moves in inside story, specifically the one that uses koopas, which i find very cute, and even the attack where he calls in his minions to rush at mario and luigi could also be a reference to what he did in inside story as a whole, i genuinely love this fight, its amazing how much it references Hope you see this if you ever do a second video
A small note about Jump Helmet: It was originally planned to return in Dream Team and be used in 3D, it got scrapped but Brothership took and finished that concept
As an extra little fact about the red shell is that for the final kick mario does, it's most likely inspired by the "fire tornado" move in Inazuma Eleven, the movement and the camera angles are almost identical
The ominous reef is actually specifically a reference to a boss in one of the super mario galaxy games, basically fighting a giant skeletal shark underwater in Bone fin Galaxy, the boss is called kingfin
Watched a fair bit through but there is another reference to another game not specifically in the Mario and Luigi series but another game entirely from the mainline series, when you fight the big bird boss, listen carefully when Luigi has the chance to use his logic attack against it, the sound effect of the twisting pipes is actually the Mario Sunshine speech sfx.
A reference I noticed quite fast was the "smash the nuts" on the flower island very early on. It was a reference to one of the minigames you had to do in Bowsers Inside Story to boost his arm muscles (the one where he has to pull out the carrot or push off the iron ball) The minigame on the jungle island could be a reference to the same minigame but the other version of it where you bounce it continuesly back the the arm. Or it is just a reference to those coin-boxes in past games where you can earn a lot of coins if you "keep hitting the block" while it continuesly gets faster and faster (havent found any, found the "keep the bros order in mind" blocks) It might not have been a reference and just a funny coincidence
the off-course reef could also be considered a Paper Jam bros move as the Rocket Blast, the rockets aren't exactly the same model, but it is something to note

Yes, mario and luigi dream team did make luigi some specialty, but it's only in the dream world and not alot of people talking of him.
Even that one Paper Goomba who gives you the battle cards in Paper Jam goes into Mario (Starlow even being mad at him for basically taking her spot)
10:35 Peasley's reef saying he's slow in racing is, at least as I interpreted it, a reference to the running gag of how the Mario Bros. always get to places before him!
Also to the part where he races you to get all bean pieces and he gets none
apparently he also has really slow speed stats in bowser's minions
That and the Zeekeeper one definitely seems to reference his role in general

Thank you so much for making this spoiler friendly! :)
“He was also Luigi’s boyfriend!” Haha yeah pretty much!
Prince peasleys poem mention being slow in a race referencing the race to get the beanstar pieces he and the bros had where he lost
15:00 There's another title screen that shows Shipshape in ruin after Bowser's army attacks it. You can see it when Mario & Luigi get stranded on Offandon Island
Indeed I saw and was destraught seeing Shipshape a bit damaged when I saved and took break on Offandon
12:11 They don't want to be reminded of Paper Jam XD
During the battle with the conductor, where you need to understand which brother is real, fake Mario will use an idle animation from old games
Mario does it too!
0:10 90% of movies in 2024
I love references! :)
Oil up 🗿🧴
The Prince one is referencing in superstar Saga how you had to awake him from being a dragon and also how he was slow to solving problems, and Mario and Luigi would beat him to it
4:44 this attack might actually be a reference to superstar saga since there an enemy called the troopea does this same attack which is really cool
14:20 Also it’s because canonically spicy chicken is bowser’s favorite food.
One of the questions in Big Bad Bowser Brain Train is
“Of Fawful's dishes, what was Bowser's favorite?”
To which Bowser answers the spicy chicken.
I would also like to add that the red shell now hits airborne enemies whereas the green shell only hits ground enemies.
Great video!!
There’s a reference to the Fire Flower attack in the pizza-making segment on Jellyfish Island, and I believe Mario’s battle animation from Dream Team is used in the Great Conductor boss fight.
13:15 the sliding punch is an overworld ability for bowser as well, so it’s probably representing that instead
I think the reason why the Icead and Magmad are in the real world now is because they were always real. Luigi just saw them before and then started having dreams about them.
No, there is another reference to Paper Jam.
If you notice, the mysterious swirled reef has a very similar appearance to the game as a whole
(Edit: Compared to the rest of the series, I should clarify)
I thought that was color splash
NO WAY, STICKER STAR REF
I thought you were talking about the Drill Shell Bros. Attack. Come one, man, it's a fine game.
@@coopinatormusic6214 Yeah, even I have to admit it was average, mostly I was jumping on the meme train
Bruh, being the worst game dosn't make it bad
A little fact about the Luigi Logic animations is that they all reference different poses Luigi does
The ones I remember is that some of them reference his level up animations, mainly from BiS and DT/PJ
I think the Zeekeeper and Prince Peasley reference points in the stories they ware in like the bean bean star awakening from burdo’s rude sounding voice or the battle agenst phantasma
I love gushing and needing out about this game 😊 also with the Magmad and Icead, reminded, this is an alternate world they’re working in
3:20 you dream about things you can find in the real world wll the time lol
Love this. Still pretty early into the game so can't wait to come back to the later half haha
12:39 well it could also be a reference to the thin mode transformation in TTYD,
Someone may have said this already, but I think the iron balls from Mario wonder might be the same iron ball that appears if you equip 2 iron ball plugs..
something you kind of missed:
one of shy guys attacks is them raising a flag of either M or L, prompting you to jump with either mario or luigi. I thiiink this is a reference to that one pirate minigame in mario party where shy guy does the sameish thing
10:36
the Zeekeper might reference giant battles in Dream Team (which he partook in)
Prince Peasley might reference the Bean Star which needed to be woken up (done by Fawfuls tech using Peaches voice) the Bean Star had a annoyed expression in that scene
I have another piece of trivia!
With the syrup bottle animations, they have different versions depending on which bro drinks it.
-If you use a syrup as your own bro, it does a brand new animation where your character holds it and drinks it like a bottle of juice
-If you use syrup on a bro that youre not controlling, it does the legacy animation from the older games (syrup bottle floats, tips over, and one drop falls into their mouth)
10:35 the shroob poem could be in reference to the battle against elder princess Shroob
The zeekeaper poem is in reference to how laid-back he was
And the prince peasly poem is in reference to the race against Mario and Luigi to collect the four bean sprout pieces
Edit: also the zeekeaper poem references antasma
Dude mysmashcorner annoys me because he never even explained why he left.
Can't a man live his life?
@@blackdot105he did it for attention
@@Kysuhnw and you know that how?
When you first meet dorrie one of the IDLE members the thin one (I forgot name) references the sign in the dorrie room in Mario 64
5:39 keep in mind, that capsule animation plays ONLY if you hit every bomb. If you miss any of them, the final bomb functions like it used to instead
A small reference I really liked was the animation at the end of the Max-Mix Vortex attack
When they're done and fall to the ground, Mario straightens his cap and Luigi is celebrating on one leg and with his fist in the air.
Those are the same animations that were in Dream Team and Paper Jam after doing a normal jump attack.
Or the obvious reference of shyguy's flag attack being from mario party
Brent even made a Shy Guy Says joke
12:44 could be an reference to paper jam or just an plain reference to TTYD in both cases since in TTYD you use the thin paper ability to go through jail cells and the like for items or story progression
12:12 Also possibly a TTYD reference? Since, well, Mario (or, well, Paper Mario) can do the same thing there
3:15
my headcanon of Dream Team is that Luigi's dreams are based on his recent memory's (explaining the parallels with the real world and dream enemies looking similar to real enemies/objects and why we don't see Boo's/ghosts in his dreams). This means that Brothership has to take place before Dream Team
this might also explain why Cap Naps are very different in Luigi's dreams (he had time to fantasize about them)
0:38 the color scheme and eye design are also reminiscent of Francis however that’s less likely what they were going for
7:45 That’s not entirely true, as Mario does also use barrel Luigi as a platform occasionally in said stealth sections
15:10 I'm pretty sure that is is how Shun is carried in the cutscene right after you reach wayaway Island for the first time
I'm 99% sure that in the great conductor boss fight, when you have to choose which of mario's idle animations is correct, one of the animations is a 3d adaptation of the one from dream team. Actually tripped me up when I first saw them :P
13:03 i think bowser's sliding punch is a reference to his overworld sliding punch ability in bowser's inside story, unlocked after the giant carrot minigame
12:50 The Easy-Peasy Counter Plug allows the Bros to Flutter Jump to dodge attacks similar to how Paper Mario dodged attacks in Paper Jam.
I like that the devs put a bunch of references to past games, perfect for a game that’s part of a series once thought forgotten
Thank you for putting spoiler friendly in the title
I found a 2nd reference to paper jam:
In one of the bowser cutscenes, he has the same laugh as the one that played before a boss battle in paper jam, it's not that much but i dont remember hearing that specific laugh in any other mario game
12:12 I started manically laughing when Snoutlet referenced Paper Jam.
3:19
Remember, Concordia is another world that's not within the mushroom Kingdom or the other places the bros have been.
So it's to be expected to run into weird enemies elsewhere where they are actually real. 😅
This is, as far as I know, one of the only games where my main childhood fear of the main villain coming out and scaring you is true I guess
You should talk about excellent bros attacks having animation differences. (Aka if you miss a shot it functions like their original bros attacks, but if you hit EVERYTHING you get a perfect bonus)
Examples
-Yoohoo canon has the giant barrel at the end (it didnt in the old games)
-Green shell does AOE if you hit every shot (normally it does target random, but no finisher)
-Bomb derby has an AOE if you hit EVERY bomb (in the older games it didnt)
I would like to mention that the regular bowser fight has a lot of attacks from bowser inside story even with several brawl like moves with his minions
12:01 in the scene where the girls are talking about fashion, Starlow says that her real appearance is described as a beautiful, huge maiden, so that yellow, circular shape is a disguise.
Fun Fact
Some of Luigi's poses whenever he gets a Luigi Logic moment, are reference of other games.
Attacks:
Mario's final Bros.
In fact, there is a reference to Paper Jam, if you connect the return attack plug in easy mode when you jump you do the Paper Mario jump.
So... are you really mysmashcorner
Please explain to me where this all came from??
@@blackdot105unknown. I guess people are just desperate for an answer from mysmashcorner to such an extent they just blow up like this
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how they directly acknowledge the events of Bowser Junior’s journey of all things in the side quest a true friend. Also in Bowser’s Castle you meet a Koopa who’s entire personality is making bad jokes and rhyming and that’s a reference to Captain Koopa Troopa from Bowser’s minions
yeah im so glad they developed that further im so invested in bowser jr now
0:55 ironically enough the Spikelys DO have that attack, or at least the Big Spikelys do
Oh my god this is the first time I have ever heard of this game existing and the animations ARE FUCKING CRAZY!! What the hell I have never seen a game be animated this well before?!?!
Another cool thing i discovered regarding 13:01
The bowser punch alongside the entirety of bowsers boss fight in this game its filled with reference to older mario and luigi games
The punch attack comes from dream team, when you fight bowser and antasma, including the bros going flying when they get hit by the attack
When he gets enraged its actually a reference to bowsers inside story, when he goes into fury, his hair become fiery and he appears angry, they replicated this by making his hair literally turn into fire
The big fire breath attack with the big black orbs its a reference to his boss fight in bowsers inside story when you encounter him by the fortune teller upon exiting his body with mario and luigi, with the only difference that in order to dodge the attack you previously used Starlow that would lift you up into the sky to dodge the fire, but starlow doesnt help you in this boss fight so instead you use the orbs to gain height to dodge it
His shell attack its a reference to one of his brawl moves in inside story, specifically the one that uses koopas, which i find very cute, and even the attack where he calls in his minions to rush at mario and luigi could also be a reference to what he did in inside story as a whole, i genuinely love this fight, its amazing how much it references
Hope you see this if you ever do a second video
Actually the punch is from Bowser´s Inside Story
@marioortegosanz1614 the punch itself yes, the specific attack pattern when youre fighting against bowser, thats dream team
Another animation reference is how Bowser laugh, he put his hand on his pelvis, just like the previous game
Or it is just a reference to those coin-boxes in past games where you can earn a lot of coins if you "keep hitting the block" while it continuesly gets faster and faster (havent found any, found the "keep the bros order in mind" blocks)
It might not have been a reference and just a funny coincidence
When you said spoiler friendly I didn't think you would just straight up spoil all the Bros attacks
the off-course reef could also be considered a Paper Jam bros move as the Rocket Blast, the rockets aren't exactly the same model, but it is something to note
Bowser has some attacks that are references to his "Special Moves from BiS " and I really liked that a lot
Almost all luigi logic poses are references from previous games.
Bowser winds up his punch by pulling it far back, which is exactly how he does in his basic punch animation, so I do think its a nod.
The barrel is also used as a platform in the stealth sections in Brothership
