The Devil Wears Prada (abbr. TDWP) have been a powerful force in the metalcore/post-hardcore world since 2005. Their formative release "With Roots Above and Branches Below" is a masterpiece in the genre's canon that spawned an era of brutal breakdowns, enormous, anthemic clean choruses and savage harsh vocals. Over the last decade, TDWP have cycled through band members and shifted to a more post-hardcore/rock sound yet remain the effusive, zealous songwriters their fans adore.

Julien: Yes of course! It’s funny because I used to listen to them when I was younger. It was like one of the heaviest band that I used to listen because they are Christian. Yeah it helps me to justify to my parents a bit. (laughs) I was like: “Don’t panic they’re about God!” (laughs) So this reminds me of school. I obviously listened to their cover and this is amazing. We realized that we played the same night in Atlanta months ago. So I ran to their show right after mine and I was wearing my old shirt from their first album, that I had since I was 12 years old. And when I met them I went like: “My dad used to bring me up to your shows!” (laughs) It’s crazy, they are part of my youth. There was this skatepark I used to go and sometimes they were playing there. So I told that to them like: “You probably just don’t remember me, I was 12 years old, I was wearing braces!”. But they are one the band that made me wanna become an artist, a performer. And they covered my song! It’s so meaningfull, it’s like an inversion."

How did I not know about this sooner? Loved both of these artists for years, and when Julien said she used to cover TDWP back in the day I thought that was really cool, but now that it's come full circle with them covering her, it's just so awesome.

Even their old music has deep meaning to it. some of the old songs off of WRAABB are so inspirational to me and have helped me get through so much. I will say that they have always made good sounding music (from Dear Love A Beautiful Discord all the way up to the current day and age) and they have always had very good lyrical content. They continuously put out music that has actual songwriting and emotion even from their first album. The way they play their music now tends to tug on more peoples heart strings but I can say that personally I feel very intense emotions from even their hardest hitting songs with the dirtiest of vocals. I do look forward to see what they will put out next and I do enjoy every song they have.

I listen to this song a few times a day. It's raw emotion, power, easy to connect to and just gives me the feels. Wasn't a huge fan of TDWP before this came out, but I hope they continue making similar music because this is amazing.

julien baker is actually very inspired by hardcore punk and screamo music! so it actually makes a lot of sense imo :) if you liked this you should check out forrister/the star killers, they are a punk band julien was in during high school

This has to be one of the most forced performances I've ever watched. Immediate respect for a hardcore band covering stripped-down music, but I can't help feeling like they missed the point of the song. It's like the screams came in when the lyrics would call for a scream, but they should have been when the melody called for them. It totally killed the flow of the song, and those moments of buildup would have been great for screams. A scream is supposed to be arresting, so it really sucks that I felt the least emotion during the more hardcore parts. Been rewatching and giving this a lot of thought and it's a really interesting case study. Sit down with it, I think there's a lot to pick apart here that people could learn from.

She is an amazing songwriter, and it's obvious from her lyrics in this, and in "Rejoice" that she has had real experience, and struggled with substances and is now sober. I had never heard of this group til I looked up Sour Breath and found this version. I don't like this version, but more power to them for covering it.
