Ralph Moody is one of the many reasons I became a Ford fan in the '60s. Holman Moody, the Wood Bros. and Bud Moore. Three of the greatest teams in Nascar history. Wish they were all still with us. I would've loved to have met them and bought em a beer.

As a kid, Ralph Moody was my next door neighbor. He was an awesome person. Always outside in his carport working on cars, sometimes into the middle of the night. I definitely learned a lot from him.

Just learned today that Ralph Moody and John Holman are on the ballot for the Class of 2019 for the NASCAR Hall of Fame. When you think of super teams of NASCAR in the 1960's, the three names that come to mind are Petty Enterprises, Wood Brothers, Holman-Moody.

I remember David Pearson at Mobile Speedway when I was 12 or 13 yrs old in the late 1960's. I worked at that track and was in the pit during the race. Pearson had done well and after the race, already in the pit, I walked over to his pit area. He had jumped into the open end of a tractor trailer rig in avoidance of the crowd that was soon to be in the pit. I walked over about ten feet away from him looking. He looked at me like he could not understand why I was there- 18year minimum age in the pit. He was a great driver and a pleasure to watch on the track that I was very familiar with. I was always a Wood Brothers/Pearson fan. Pearson was the best ever.
Their were other greats there from time to time: Bobby and Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, Marty Robbins, along with the local greats that never had a break into the "big time".

Saw him win at Ontario, Ca. in '76. Best day ever. Place was deserted. Maybe 10,000 in a venue that held 150,000+.

According to interviews with various former employees Holman kept Ralph on the road and out of the way so he could manage the shop and the employees.

Ford won le Mans. Holman Moody built the engines. Carol Shelby's team got the win. And ut happened in 1966 and a year later in 1967.

I visited Mr Moody to get a hand's on design for a racing oil pan for a modified Sunbeam Tiger. Little did I realize my chats with him and Junior Johnson, Carroll Shelby and Ak Miller, was the stuff of legend. Ask a question then have a memory like a tpe recorder for an hour's dissertation.

Very interesting about an interesting person. But I hate when someone put background music behind the speaker voice. Sometimes difficult to hear what they are saying.

Pro tip for the producer - background music is supposed to be in the background.

+Fred Stallings And Smokey Yunick, except for his history of cheating against Nascar and Big Bill, he was involved with Nascar's early pros Herb Thomas, Marshall Teague, Curtis Turner and Paul Goldsmith in the days when they ran the Hudson Hornet, Pontiacs and the Chevy Bel Air. Building cars and engines and crew chiefing for them in those times.

I spend more time watching these (60s-70s, even some 80s) vids than I do watching today's teeny boppers racing.
    Big money f'd it up.
Thanks to eBay I've got a bunch of 60s & 70s Stock Car Magazine(s) and reliving my past, and the decade before it. Hang on every word. Just unbelievable how great it was, and what a damn joke it is today. MRN still does good, but FOX & NBC is sickning. I'd prefer Junior just do it all if I'm going to watch it, and leave the producer OUT OF his ear.
