Thanks! All different now. Walked up in 73, me and my buddy. We were GIs out of Fort Carson. We ate chili at the old wrecked summit house. Begged for a ride down but got turned away. We walked back down half in the dark sliding down gravel of cog track to parking lot. Also smoked cigarettes both up and down and of course hardly any water. Ah, to be young again. Thanks for memories and great video!

In 1968 I was 17, and stayed at Diamond Campground in a 17' camper trailer with my folks and younger brother and sister. In 1999, my wife and I moved there, and as new empty nesters, I decided to take a fun job and became a conductor on the Cog Railway in the summer of 2000. Up and down twice a day giving the tour, hopping out to switch the tracks and all the other fun stuff of a conductor. Barely made any money, but it was a good time. I worked with a retired highway patrol who decided to have a fun summer of work as well. Don't go to Colorado Springs without taking in Pike's Peak. I also worked with a young lady who would sing, "America, The Beautiful" for the passengers. Drink plenty of water before and during your trek up to the top. It helps tremendously with the higher elevation. Thank you for the video!!

Been up the Peak more times than I can count as a kid. Every summer family would take out of town relatives up. I can remember how good the donuts were and always looked forward to donuts and hot chocolate every time we went up. Haven't been there in years. Highly recommend renting a car to go up instead of my own vehicle to save on brakes coming down. Glad you went.

We lived there. Do not leave your partner ever. Between dehydration and oxygen deprivation or both at the same time, if you partner needs to go back, YOU NEED to be with them to make sure they make it. Every year people have chalenges with those two issues.
My grandfather told me a story about Pikes Peak. Someone was complaining about cold coffee. The waitress said “I’m sorry, but it’s boiling. It’s the best we can do up here.”
What?! Wow. The donuts started out as a life saving measure for people who hiked up and the people who worked the science and weather station up there. They're special because baking at high altitude is difficult and making anything raised and fluffy like donuts is next to impossible without a lot of science and skill. If you take those donuts down the mountain, they would be crushed and mushy by the bottom.
I’m not sure flat landers comment was for us. We spent 30 years living at 7,200 ft in the mountains. Shoveled snow every winter. I worked in below zero temperatures as one of the two deputy sheriff’s on duty. If that’s a flat lander then I’m not sure what a mountain man is. Thank you for joining us! 😂. Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

I was just up there today with my mother celebrating her 87th birthday.
Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your mother 👏🎂🎊 Did she get a birthday donut? 🍩 We imagine the weather was quite a bit cooler than when we visited in June. Beautiful place with so much history! Thank you for sharing your mother’s special day with us 😄~ Rhonda and Stan
We lived there. Do not leave your partner ever. Between dehydration and oxygen deprivation or both at the same time, if you partner needs to go back, YOU NEED to be with them to make sure they make it. Every year people have chalenges with those two issues.
Thank you that is great advice! Stan and Rhonda!
My friend from California passed out…so be careful. It didn’t bother me because I live in the metro area and drive the mountains often.
Hi Patricia, yes we lived in Big Bear California for 30 years. Altitude sickness is a real thing! Thank you for joining us again! Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
There’s a trail you can hike to the top. Took me 7 hours and 13 minutes.
That is awesome! We mentioned the trail in the video. Thank you for joining us! Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
My grandfather told me a story about Pikes Peak. Someone was complaining about cold coffee. The waitress said “I’m sorry, but it’s boiling. It’s the best we can do up here.”
Hi Art, what a great memory! Thank you for joining us. Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
Unless I am mistaken, the mountain itself falls under the US dept of forestry, but the road was built and maintained by COS! fact check me!
I think you are correct! Thank you for joining us! Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
What is so special about the donuts?
Absolutely nothing!! However, we enjoyed them at 14,000 feet. lol. Thank you for joining us! Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
What?!
Thanks for sharing! We didn’t know!
Driven like true flat landers…..☹️
I’m not sure flat landers comment was for us. We spent 30 years living at 7,200 ft in the mountains. Shoveled snow every winter. I worked in below zero temperatures as one of the two deputy sheriff’s on duty. If that’s a flat lander then I’m not sure what a mountain man is. Thank you for joining us! 😂. Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️
