What a load. A lot of female players competely overexaggerated their grunts themselves, while hitting the ball slowly, sexualised them themselves by making them orgasmic, and used them to try to intimidate or distract their opponents.

It’s interesting how women are his main target audience and ultimately who have made him successful, yet not only does he treat these girls like they are just bodies he can touch wherever, he also insults our work ethic and intelligence. It says everything about his character. Thank you for being a male in our corner. I hope this can be a growth opportunity for Bret and other men who think/act similarly. We want to be comfortable and confident at the gym to reach our goals instead of worrying if the exercise looks too “sexual” for us. I appreciate your commentary on this topic!

That's it, you can provide knowledge, be knowledgeable and an expert but still be a creep.
When I was studying sports science one of my uni tutors was completing his phd and was known to sleep with the young female students. Just a sleazy creep who preyed on the power he had as a tutor- he wasn't a uni official as he was still a student there but Def had a position of power and as he was likely 26-29 and many students just 18-19 made it more predatory. At the time I just kind of stayed away from it but I don't think anyone would have done anything then in still early 2000's

    Video notes:
As I stated prior to this video going live, going to forego my typical video notes to give voices to others who may want to speak up on these issues in your comments, plus we’ve already talked extensively about my feelings on this during video prep. Briefly, I can tell how passionate you are about the protection of women and creating a safe environment for them, and I can see that Bret’s sexist article and his, at best, questionable actions, upset you for how inappropriate they were. I just want to affirm really quick that you are a great, wholesome person, and lots of people appreciate you for who you are and your care for others. It’s very powerful for a male figure to be speaking out about these things, and hopefully this can lead to some positive change. As always, thank you for being you.
To reiterate to those who have experienced some of the issues expressed in this video, again, it was not your fault, it was entirely on the person who hurt you. Please do not hesitate to reach out for help using the resources in the description or your local resources. If you need a family member or friend to be with you, please consider doing so, as I recognize it takes a lot of bravery to speak out and seek help. If you are somebody who witnesses or suspects anything suspicious happening in regards to sexual, emotional, relationship abuse, etc., please also consider using your voice to speak out and help those who have been hurt. Oftentimes there are bystanders or those who know who do not speak or take action, and bystanders can be a very powerful force when it comes to stopping or preventing behavior like this.

Thank you for making this video!
As a female trainer and a female who loves training, I get angry and frustrated seeing and hearing this.
    120 Tips -
Those tips are such BS. The biggest misconception is the females want to train with minibands, kettlebells, etc.. They "like this" because that is what has been MARKETED TO US FOR YEARS. So that is what many females think it is the proper training for them. 8 out of 10 female newbie gym clients wanted a training program, where they just wanted to do bodyweight exercises once a week, and then all they wanted to do was go to some Zumba courses because that is what they thought was the right thing for them. Another reason many women "like" this kind of training is because they do not dare to go to the weight section. Going to courses, working out in a small corner with their mini bands is their safe space. Because they fear being looked at inappropriately or being made fun of. Once I introduced some of my female clients to weight training, step by step, they LOVED it, asked more science-based questions, wanted to understand their bodies better, started doing their research, and made great progress. Physically and mentally. They took up the space they needed and became more confident in the lifting rooms.
But even when being confident, many do not dare to grunt or even breath properly because of being sexualized.
All in all, the things you pointed out are sexist (and I genuinely do not get affected easily by these things), not backed by factual evidence.
To all of you out there: if you encountered sexualization, just know it is not your fault. Also know that you have the strength to overcome it. You have the power to take up the space you need and be confident. Do not let anyone bring you down or make you feel uncomfortable.
    Physical Contact -
As a trainer, I understand that physical contact is necessary for some scenarios, especially to explain directions of f.e. pulling, etc.. It makes things easier. But even as a female, I never dared to touch another female like in the first video you showed. Most of the time, I would show and explain where they should feel the contraction the most on my own body. Even after them giving consent, I would not grab ANY body part that way. Imagine explaining to a dude how to bench press and squeezing his chest like that; no one would ever do that. It is not necessary, it is weird, and even the angle of filming paired with the grabbing is just straight out disgusting. As someone looking for "glute education," I do not see how this is supposed to help me as a viewer.
Him standing in front of that girl while squatting is straight-up disgusting and unprofessional. It might happen unintentionally if you want to check out if everything is fine with form. But you go and check quickly, get back and stand beside her. I realized that many times, people also prefer their trainer standing on the side. As a female, it can get weird when a male stands behind her while squatting. For any male trainers in this comment section: I suggest you stand behind a female client when she is lifting heavy and might need support. Besides that, standing on the side gives a great view of her foot and knee positioning, plus you can also observe what happens with the spine throughout the movement. The biggest plus: She is less concerned about being looked at from behind. The small things make a huge difference in feeling safe and confident for many female clients.
To everyone out there: If you ever have experienced situations like this, it is not your fault! If you ever have a trainer (male or female) do this to you, you have the strength to say no! or communicate your discomfort.
Thank you so much for making this video and spreading awareness. Your channel has mostly female subscribers for many good reasons. You debunk myths and give valuable information; you are kind-hearted, you spread positivity and awareness when needed. We all appreciate you, your efforts and head wear. Also the fact that you know when the headwear is appropriate. Thank you for looking out for us. It is time that we all start looking out for each other more in the fitness industry.

I personally felt uncomfortable about a few of his videos when he touched women like that. I wouldn't want a trainer to touch me like that (I know that sometimes it might be necessary or helpful but if you are the opposite sex (maybe even same sex sometimes), it's best to confirm with the person if you can touch them to help and you should always avoid any intimate places). Maybe he doesn't mean it sexually and just doesn't care how it looks, or maybe he does mean to touch women like this for sexual reasons, in any case I think it's inappropriate and he needs to stop (if there was no prior consent, and even then you would need to ask the person from time to time if they are okay with it).

    Some other ignorant statements:
    1. Women complain about pain more than men.
    58. Women chat during lifts. Men shut their traps and focus on the task at hand.
    61. Women dress very sexy at the gym and then act annoyed when males shows interest in them (then tries to cover his stupidity with 62.)
WTF. I just started working out again & just found his channel. I am disgusted. I hope others speak out.

It’s clear that he doesn’t ask for permission. His “cues” alone would bring the violence out in me. I think he’s a joke and loves to sexualize women who go to him for “help”… there are AWESOME trainers out there that help women and MEN strengthen their glutes and at the same time strengthen their lower backs.
I have a bigger bottom and big quads so it’s easy for me strengthen my lower body… And no one has to touch me in order for me to achieve that.

I appreciate the hell out of you and your stance on this.
    TW:
I was sexually assaulted at 18, and felt entirely weak and powerless after the fact. I got into martial arts and weightlifting to gain a sense of "power" back by feeling strong and capable physically. I wanted to feel safe again.
Then at 24, I was physically grabbed and sexually assaulted at the gym, a place that for years had made me feel safe and powerful. Afterwards, it was no longer my safe place, and it took me a very, VERY long time to get the courage to go back (to the gym in general, I never did return to that particular one). I was pretty lost there for a bit, but did eventually regain my composure and managed to begin lifting consistently again.
I say all of this because there are still SO MANY PEOPLE who would look at this behavior and deem it acceptable. It's not. It's seeing how much he can get away with without repercussions, and I guarantee if he's willing to do this on-camera, he's willing to do worse off-camera. It's a huge red flag, and the thought of what he and men like him are capable of makes me personally ill.
It's not ok. Stop touching us, stop insulting us, stop thinking you'll get away with treating us as though we have no bodily integrity. We do not consent.

Thank you so much for this! As you just said this issue Needed! to be addressed. Sadly we live in an un-perfect world and the fitness industry can be VERY sexist sometimes, particularly for those just starting there fitness journey seeking help from these kind of instructors.
The thing I highlight about this video is that I sparkes awareness on this topic wich sadly isn't talked about enough and is really easy to throw under the carpet given the circumstances.
I believe the fitness community should be more woke on this kind of issues. As you said we need to protect each other and make sure our hopes for health and happiness aren't EVER exploit like this. And this should include all individuals.

The amount of times he sexualized normal women's training behavior was absolutely nauseating. Maybe the reason he thinks men's grunts aren't sexual sounding is because he sees them as human beings engaging in athletic pursuits instead of sexual objects training our butts to become more sexually appealing to men. And then combined with the shots of him gripping what was filmed as basically a disembodied butt cheek with her face deemphasized and encouraging another man to do the same...GROSS. And all of that combined with his apparently low opinion of women's training mindsets and intelligence. It's disturbing that this man has made his name by basically patronizing women and sexualizing their bodies and yet women who are desperate to grow their glutes are drawn to his expertise. I'm glad you made this video and I'm glad you proposed alternative sources of information. I'm in a weight lifting group for women and his name gets mentioned every time someone says they want bigger glutes. We shouldn't be giving our dollars and respect to anyone who views us this way.

I had several thoughts after watching this video and reading the comments.
1 - There should be more female only gyms so women are free to exercise without feeling intimidated.
2 - Men don't giggle when they reach failure? I do, especially during leg based moves that temporarily remove the ability to walk properly.
3 - Touching. I get a PT may put their hands on you to move you into the right position, but that squeezing seemed sinister.
4 - Grunting noises. I think that says a lot about his mindset, and how he views women in general.

Thank you for addressing this. It’s a tough topic and I think it a reason many women don’t like going to the gym or are hesitant to get personal trainers. There’s too many stories of men taking advantage of those situations. When my best friend and I were in high school, we had this personal trainer and he’d send us unsolicited pictures of himself all the time. We were minors, 17 or 18, and this guy was old enough to know better. It’s probably one of the biggest reasons I’m hesitant to return to the gym as an adult. I’m sure it’s happened to many other women. It’s gross and it needs to stop

I've also never understood why one would want to grow their glutes and not the legs alongside them. But whatever, if it makes people happy, sure.
I appreciate that you put on the headwear beforehand, since it really would not have been fitting/ appropriate to keep wearing it.
And I really appreciate you speaking up about this/ talking about this. It is very important that men speak up against such things.
I've only read a bit of the stuff on Discord. The 120 tips-article is already chock-full of sexism and inappropriate statements. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.
And you are absolutely not overly sensitive. (ca 06:15)
You are absolutely right about this. I really appreciate the way you articulate yourself and criticise this. It really is both frustrating and infuriating. How can it be that this man has never (to any larger degree) been called out on his sexist bs?
The intense touching in the collab videos stuck out to me as well when I randomly clicked through the Krissy video. He comes across as so creepy and disgusting. Seriously, how are people okay with that?
The positioning in front of the lifter during the squats definitely seems like he's doing it for his imagination and as a bit of power play. Combined with the constant touching, it is absolutely gross. Not to mention that it would be ridiculously irritating to have someone stand so close to you during squats. Even without all the other stuff going on.
11:20 I really, really appreciate that part of the video. You are a genuinely amazing person. There is a reason why this community loves you so much. You are beyond wholesome and your supportive nature is very much appreciated.

@@olxxa4967 to answer the (admittedly not super important in the context of this video), a lot of women will pursue trying to grow just the glutes because we start off thinking we can get an arse with squats and lunges while already being quad dominant and end up growing bigger quads while experiencing minimal glute and hamstring growth - so we switch to mostly hip hinge movements to compensate for an imbalance we’ve already created.

That would make me extremely uncomfortable for a coach to approach a session in that way. I have had a bad experience in the past with a male coach not understanding empathy post comp prep. Usually never comment on UA-cam but I want to express how important this video is. I thought BC was a good source and consumed a bit of his content. Seeing his interactions with the women performing the exercise sometimes made me feel odd but I reasoned to myself that he is a professional. Women are so often deemed the problem for ‘taking things the wrong way’, it’s sometimes easier to believe there is no wrong doing and accept actions as normal. Had I not seen this video, I’m actually quite concerned that I would have accepted actions similar to BCs as the norm and could have fallen victim to it. I can’t thank you enough for this awareness to the topic 💛💛

I have only ever watched one of Brett’s videos and his demeanor toward the girl demonstrating the moves gave me ick vibes (he kept calling her “young”). I didn’t even know these accusations around him. Thank you for making his video. You have a beautiful soul and are a gift to UA-cam and the fitness community.

That first video made me physically uncomfortable. Even if he had consent from that woman there should be general guidelines in personal training about how and when to touch a client. Then inappropriate behavior can be objectively called. Consent means nothing if you hold power over someone. I am a nurse and we talk extensively about when and how to touch patients in a professional manner.

Thank you for this video. I have found Bret's knowledge to be very useful, so I was shocked to see the title. I can completely see your point of view and its nice to see a man and a professional look at this critically. Gives awareness that this is not normal, appropriate behaviour from a PT. Even with consent, why does he need to be that hands on/familiar with all of his clients? Gross.

Relatively new to your channel, and have been watching several videos over the past few days. I appreciate how respectful you are about these issues, and about the criticism you give in general. Being a woman with a sports background involving a lot of mixed grappling, it's clear to me that respectful behaviour is not hard for most men. Asking permission to correct someone's form, and then doing it in the least sexual way possible is not hard. Any person who claims it is too difficult to do so is not a person to trust with your physical well being.

I think your observations are valid and a lot of women may/may not be brave enough to share their experiences with him. I'm so sorry you've had bad experiences and I can understand wanting to workout at home (for a variety of reasons). But at the same time, how can we ever change the male dominated atmosphere of the gym if women don't show up? We need more women in the gym, and more women in the weight rooms to normalize it, not fewer. My mind immediately goes to having sex designated weight rooms so that everyone's fears of being observed, judged, and potentially harassed are lessened, but that definitely comes with its own problems. I don't have the answer for everyone, and we have to do what's right for us, but I really hate the idea of afab and femme presenting people not being able to take advantage of the gym.

I think even if consent for touching was given it is not appropriate to demonstrate this on yt. Bret is a huge role model for aspiring personal trainers, this is not the behaviour that should be shown.

    Hi everybody!
Watching this vid in my new apartment and crying a little over this topic. I'd love to see more personal trainers prioritising a general well-being of their customers and training buddies no matter their body or other training goals. How could being disrespectful to one's body help to get one's goals? It's awful and it looks painful. Only once I was touched inappropriatly by a stranger and I could still feel this particular part of the body burning. Can't imagine where the fitness journey took the people who were unlucky to be guided by the person you mention here. Thank you for letting others to not to be fooled by them. All the love and respect to you Harry and the TFNL fam.

Thanks for doing this video Harry. I'll admit I've watched Bret's stuff looking for mechanics on training, so myopically that I never even noticed the way that he produces his videos nor considered that they would be published without consent given for his contact. This revelation is disappointing to say the least. I appreciate your empathy and maturity in broaching this subject. I can only imagine how much more difficult a space this can make a gym for some.

As a meticulous workout log tracker, very science interested and based weightlifter who can't help but grunt like an animal while enjoying exercise repetitiveness and also happens to be a young woman, I just despise what this Bret person or however his name is, is spreading. We're already sexualized enough, and it does happen at the gym at very inappropriate times... Also, as being someone who loves to push her limits and feel the pain and fight through it, it's very discriminatory to not even consider this an ability women have. We can endure so much and keep going. Just disgusting. Thank you so much for speaking up about this and raising awareness!
