Very cool mount setup, im tryin to build one mysel for my kayak, exactly like yours, maybe in stainless, but i like the stability and the option to be removed, where are you based fishing ?
Regards from Europe
East Texas. Good luck with your build!
Do you have a video for how you wired the trolling motor?
ua-cam.com/video/qau2ndBYcEE/v-deo.htmlsi=SklX0R7WyKe1mWP-
This is the best I got
Just curious what do I do with yellow and white wires coming out of the shaft
I just tucked them back into the shaft, in case I need them later…
Whats your measurements for the bracket you built?
It’s 1/16 in thick aluminum I bought from Home Depot. I didn’t measure it. I just eyeballed it. I didn’t put measurements, because every kayak is different…
How much did you cut off the shaft of the motor.
I didn’t cut it, in case I want to use it to put on a boat. There’s no need to cut it. It’s extra unnecessary work.
Nice effort but having that motor mounted 2 feet away on plastic rail mounts seems grossly inadequate. If you drag the bottom hard enough it will snap that right off.
I appreciate the comment, and watching the video, but you’re wrong about that. The aluminum has plenty of give and actually moves up when I hit a log or the bottom. This has happened 100+ times. The integrity of the plastic mounts is much stronger than the plastic the kayak is made of. I’m actually working on a follow up video of the pros and cons of this design, and what you mentioned is a definite pro from the last 8 months of use.
