A tip for when drying your brushes, it’s best to lay them either vertically or at an angle, so it allows excess water to fall out from the brushes. It also prevents bristles falling out! :)
A tip for drying your brushes hang them on a clothesline with a clip to hold it, so it can face down %100 so that ALL the water and moisture will come out due to the position that they hang and gravity will do its job!
Hi, Nikkia! Great tips. I use Johnson's baby shampoo to clean my brushes and Ivory bar soap to clean my beauty blenders. The Johnson's baby shampoo is gentle on the brushes and the Ivory bar soap is also gentle on the beauty blenders. And they are both super affordable. Now I need to stop being so lazy about cleaning my brushes. I only do it once every couple months, I know, horrible. I clean my beauty blenders every night though!
Very very nice video! I am a guy that wants to get into makeup and also loves to research as much as possible before dabbling into a new thing... Definitely adding this to my playlist
You mentioned Dr. Bronner’s soap in an earlier video and I have been using it on my brushes-it’s like magic! It works so quickly and you need so little. Thank you for the full how-to😊
Love the Sigma mat ! When I have time, I also let my brushes soak in water and baking soda prior to cleaning. Baking soda is also a softener and it really speeds along the process with great results. I also clean my beauty blender by rubbing it against a bar of moisturizing glycerin soap, a tip I picked up from another pro. Love your videos!
Me too! I've had the same bar of Zote for almost 2 years and it still has more than half it's life left. I keep it in a air tight container. Works great!
I use antibacterial soap and baby shampoo. I mix half of both in a bottle. I use a hand held glove by ELF to clean my brushes & beauty sponge. In between cleaning I'll use micellar water on a pad works really good.
Why is cleaning brushes so satisfying or is it just me?!😂🤣🙈 Such a great video!! Thank you for this..it was extremely helpful. Love you, Nikkia!!💖😘 xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Thank you Nikkia for making videos that are so relevant and aren’t just showing us product after product, review after review ! Love your channel babe keep doing you 🥰
Just a suggestion for a spot cleaner on a budget - mix 1/2 isopropyl alcohol and 1/2 micellar water (I use the one from Garnier in the pink bottle) and decant into a spray or travel bottle. Not only is this easy on your wallet, but if you have sensitive/reactive skin like me, you can ensure that your spot cleaner has no added fragrances or other allergens. Thanks for a great video Nikkia - so practical
Thank you for sharing this information!! I have seen or read different methods. I just wondered sometimes about how sanitary some of them are. I was just given one of the brush cleaners in a can with like a plastic foam type insert, but it didn't come with any instructions. Do you have any thoughts on them??? Thank you in advance for your help!! Cyndi 🙄😊
Thanks for the wonderful video. Another tip I seen on a Stephanie Nicole video was to use a little pure Aloe Gel after washing if you have any brushes that aren’t holding the shape. This tip along with the Castille soap is the perfect combo 😊
Dr. Bronner's soap is amazing! It's so gentle; you can bathe with it and wash your hair with it. I never thought about using it to wash brushes. It really makes sense that it would cleanse and condition them. Thanks, Nikkia. Love you girl.
This was super helpful! I've been cleaning my brushes very wrong for a very long time! I'm so rough with them! Definitely going to use this technique from here on out!
OMG I LOVE THIS!! I have tried 3 or 4 different brands of make-up brush cleaner and NONE of them work as well as this does and it's so cheap and easy. Thank you
Also I've even used a little dry hair oil (herbal essence is what I use because it smells great) on my natural hair brushes to condition them if I had to go hard with a stronger soap. Makes them so soft and conditioned and the hair soaks up the oil (use the tiniest amount) and they're super soft and no greasy residue. It's worked wonders for my white bristle (natural hair) brushes.
I started washing my brushes when you mentioned this soap in a precious video. It's the best. I however find that a good bar hand soap works best for the foundation and sponges.
Nikki's I have been washing my brushes and Beauty Blenders like this for a couple of years. I learned about the Castile soap from aLisa Eldridge video. Thank you for the demonstration.
I use that soap too and love it!! Works great to also take dye off your skin when you dye your hair. Also used it when my daughter was in this water and chalk run and wet chalk stained her skin. Came right out without scrubbing.
Thanks for recommending the Dr. Bronner’s-works amazingly well. Smells very good & does a much better job than anything I’ve used. I’ve got the Sigma on order from Amazon, but it’s literally taking weeks to arrive, have no idea why.
I use the same soap and I bought mine at Marshalls or TJ Maxx at a discount price, the large bottle!!! I love the lavender, my brushes smell so good!!! 😊👃
Casey Isabell yes agree. I only buy organic products to clean with and this I saw from a you tuber . I’m really busy and it’s awesome to order as needed free shipping on a trial and first order you get a lot of free things and a referral program. I have my mom on it too. Husband works in a hospital and loves to clean and loves everything in it too!
Have you tried the new loreal infallible 24 hour waterproof foundation and concealer?! From the way you talk about Estee lauder I wonder if it's a dupe.
YES. Whole Foods sells this GIANT bottle of castile soap infused with tea tree oil, and I've been using it to wash my face, makeup brushes, and Beauty Blenders for about two years. It's the BEST soap for stripping makeup from brushes and sponges. And it rinses squeaky clean!
This video was so very helpful! I was always a little unsure as to how to clean my brushes and now I know. I have ruined a very many Sigma brushes before realizing I was doing it wrong so thank you for sharing this video I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for this video! I had such a difficult time cleaning my dense foundation brushes. In the middle it was always never dry and the hairs would stick together. I went to sephora multiple times to ask them what I could do to fix it and everything they suggested I tried, but it did not work. I still love sephora though! I'm glad I found your video!! My foundation brushes are actually clean and the middle bristles finally look normal! Thank you so much!!!!!!
I’m so happy I use this method on my brushes and blenders!! It works like a freakin’ charm! I have a Sigma brush cleaning glove and I use a brush drying rack that keeps them facing down while drying!
I use the pink Zote laundry soap bar to wash my brushes. It's less than $4 at Walmart and it lasts a super long time. Just let it dry completely and you can store it in a Ziploc bag. Thanks for the video Nikkia I definitely need to stop soaking the brushes in water and just wet the tip of the brushes, I was wondering why the glue was starting to come off... now I know why, duh! It makes sense. Lol The Zote soap works to clean my beauty sponges too. Oh I also use the BH Cosmetics brush cleansing pad, it has an insert for your fingers to keep the pad on top of your palm and act as if you're rubbing the brushes on your hand but it's actually the pad. Works for me and I got it on sale for like $6 dollars. Happy Brush Cleaning Everyone!
Thanks so much! I really have trouble getting my sponge clean. I've been using Dr. Bronner's soap for about 20 years for a body wash or even shampoo in a pinch but never have used it with my brushes or blending sponge. Will definitely give it a try.
That's mainly what I do and even the soap I use! Great tip on washing a bunch of small brushes together. I have been doing them one at a time and it does take a long time. A bottle of Dr. Bronner's the size you have there lasts for YEARS if you only use it for makeup brushes.
Loved the video!!!! Would you be able to film a video showing us which brushes are your favorite for each make up application step?? There are SOOOO many different brushes out there and I want to know which are the best before I invest in buying new ones 😩🙏🏼
Your videos are great! I loved the one about how to make the makeup last on your nose. I tried your suggestions and it really worked well. How often do you wash your brushes?
I use a mixture of half generic baby shampoo, and half Dawn Dishwashing soap, with a few drops of marula oil added, to wash my make up brushes. It's always removed all of the make up from them, and kept them in pristine shape. I have a small generic silicone piece, that has ridges on it, and I use for heavily dirty brushes to help remove liquid foundation, and powder blush, and bronzer. I also hang my brushes, after placing netting on the bigger brushes (to shape them during drying), and they will dry fairly quickly. It is a job that has to be done, doesn't it?! Thanks for sharing your brush cleaning method, Nikkia! Hugs from Southern Ontario, Sherrey💗🎀💗
Thank you for info. I like dr bronner's soap. Will get some. Questions... When we get brand new brushes, should we always wash them first before using? I just got a brand new bare minerals foundation brush and eyeshadow blender brush and they smell like fumes... like manufacturing chemicals... not sure if from packaging or what, but I don't want those smells applied to my face. Also, does it matter if they are synthetic brushes or real hair as far as the cleaning process? Thanks.
*Great video, Nikkia! I'm so glad you didn't say "use baby shampoo" like other people do. That is sooo bad for your brushes! Everyone thinks because it's tear free that baby shampoo is gentle but babies scalps are actually alot more acidic than normal, so their shampoos are much harsher than normal. What you're using looks really great. XO Beauty also has a great brush shampoo on their website. Thanks for another informative video!**
i am cleaning around 50 brushes mostly small ones like for eyes and concealer, and a couple highlighter and foundation brushes, for a friend of mine. i am afraid of being to harsh on them and im scared im going to fray them. but i really wanna get the stains out of the foundation brushed and clean them all super well, but its taking forever to clean them because im trying hard be careful but it takes awhile and a lt of soap to clean them. any tips of what to use or any techniques? i think i accidentally frayed an eye brush but i hardly washed it. tips?

Can u please do a video on how to properly use the brushes.. I would really love to know what brushes to use for the eye and face
Omg fr 🙀

I use zote soap on my brushes and sponges..it takes out even old set in stains from the sponges, it smells amazing and it's only 98¢ a bar
Me too! I've had the same bar of Zote for almost 2 years and it still has more than half it's life left. I keep it in a air tight container. Works great!

How often should we wash our brushes ? After how many uses is recommended ?
I usually deep clean them every week or so if they are being used heavily 😍
I wash after every two uses. Is that too much? Will my brushes get ruined? I wash with soap and sigma mat ... is that too much?
I’ve used the same technique for a while and I’m a newbie! Good to know I’m not damaging the bristles 😂 dr bronner Castile soap is amazing!

Yes! I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo. It works so well!
Bronner makes this same stuff in a bar as well, that’s what I use.
Please do a video on your favorite and must have brushes/brush sets for full face and eyes!!! Much needed!!!
Can you get this soap in London
What's your opinion of those dry brush cleaning sponges? Have you used them? Like them or hate them?
Can you use washing up liquid

Do you have any makeup brushes recommend for hypoallergenic skin types.?
Hello! Can you pleeeeeease do a video on how to avoid sunglasses taking off makeup/leaving red marks on your nose. Would love to know as its coming into summer now in Australia xx
I use Dawn dish soap.. it's a degreaser and my brushes are super soft as it's moisturizing.. ❤️
Taundis O'Connor same! I use a mix of dish soap and hand soap which add softness to them
Taundis O'Connor same here! If I’m cleaning natural hair bristles I use a little olive oil to keep them soft!
Melissa Shy I'll have to try olive oil as well.. :)
I was thinking of using this!
jennifer Lewis Harris it really works.. :)
Can we just use oil cleanser instead of soap?
I just ordered my first bottle of Dr.Bronners and will give it a try!
Thank you so very much Nikkia 🤗👏😘
Hi Nikkia great video so informative thanks heaps. Xxx
The only brushes I have are eyeshadow brushes and the Anastasia eyebrow brush, and I clean them with this brush cleaning solution from Walmart. And I clean my beauty blender with bar soap. I let them dry by the sink, which I have to be careful so I don't let them drop in the sink. 😫
Ahhhh that was so satisfying. I dread washing my brushes, especially my foundation one.
Wow you always read my mind! Lol I was hoping you would make this video. I would really love to see a video of how to make eyeshadow color combinations. I’m a beginner with eyeshadow and I’m not creative at all!
cant wait to try this method! thank you!!
Rather than the mat would you suggest to only use my hand the whole way through
This is so helpful I love you Nikkia! 💖🥰
