3 tuned HW97s compared. Paul Short Vs Nick Gibney Vs V Glide

- All three guns are very heavily tuned. I came up with the idea of the 'swing test' to try and demonstrate the very little movement in these guns during the shot cycle. The guns are tested against each other although the Paul Short gun is producing a foot pound more than the other two.
I saw this video some years ago. I came back to see this particular video of yours to see that about the recoil...
today I have received a package on my doorstep, a wonderful HW97K (Special Edition) with the laminated 77 stock, in 1.77cal.!!!
I have been shooting it at 30 yards, to see which pellets it likes. Apparently 3-4 types of pellets out of 6 types of pellets are very accurate! And it's stock straight from factory! No need for a tune yet... BUT
I'm sure that when the time comes, I will probably have her tuned by a pro...
Your three rifle shoot so smoothly, one can automatically see that they have been tuned, by listening to the shot being fired, AND the very little "to die for" recoil...:-) :-)
Jim Tyler in his recoil tests in Airgun World used a pen attached to the gun to "trace" the recoil . He was getting movement of around 7-8mm with tuned guns from memory.
Good idea - I might give it a try on the next one!
VERY interesting my friend. I think the stainless steel moved less. Always nice to see someone investigating best performance on these beautiful air rifles. I purchased one a month ago, very accurate and well built, all stock so far, but will certainly put in a V-Glide in mine when the time comes . thanks for all that hard work, very helpful in my opinion :-) take care, Jessie
Cheers pal. I am going to do another version of this video but using a simple methods of operating the trigger without using my fingers. I am also after a
another radical tune on one of my other guns which I would also like to include for comparison :)
It’s nickel not stainless
I like the nick gibney one the best!
Some serious springers you have there mate
Hi great video again, as a newcomer to airguns do you find the thumb whole stock the best for consisancy?
+Martin Swift I just find them more comfortable personally
love your enthusiasm for springers. Are you a bit of a fan of those synthetic stocks?
+swampy7422 I do actually like them. I know that some people complain about them and talk of resonance etc but I don't have any issues with it. I like the fact they are rugged and can take a knock. I like to use my guns in the real world.
I do like a good recoil test Neil :)
I have been talking ot a few people and I think I know how to refine and improve the test. I will do another version of this video but I need to set up a few things. I also need another HW97 - but a standard one.
Great video I'm thinking of getting the nickel version bit change the stock to a custom woodland laminated one
Hi have you got a link to the stock on the Paul short gun. Lovely rifles cheers
hi shootingatdawn great video yet again ,can you send me a bit advice on the Hw97 ,going to get my first Hw97 in .177cal. what do you recommend best pellets and best weight.do i go for a box standard Hw97 or see if i can get good second Hw97 what is all ready been tuned by the good ones.any help will be great thanks to put me on the right tracks thanks bill saunders
Not sure if you’re still alive or if this message will get to you, but where can I get these kits.
I've often wondered what a springer would do if shot in zero G with nothing holding it.
What’s the difference between stage 3 and stage 4 Paul short?
Titanium piston and jewelled comp tube i believe
How do you find the synthetic stock compared to wood?
out of the 3 hw97's which one is the best and best tuned. I think you can't beat the hw97 on accuracy. what is the most accurate underleaver you own. I'm looking for a very good tuned 97 but not sure what one to go for.
+agVTEC1 currently.... for shot cycle - NickG then Paul Short then V Glide. Accuracy - they are all awesome.
shootingatdawn
I had a feeling you might say that. how much dose Nick g tune cost? I'm on a took out for a tuned 97.
You would have to contact Nick to get a price for the work mate.
shootingatdawn ok thanks for the update.
Hi where is Paul Short based, do you have an address ?
+Steve Ray - the easiest way to contact him is via Facebook. He is a member of numerous Weihrauch related groups.
would be interesting to see how this compares to a standard rifle or standard Tx200 or pro sport with a factory tune,
very true. I need to refine the technique a little. I intend to make a remote trigger release so that I am not physically touching the gun when the trigger is pulled so that you can better see the effects of the firing cycle. Plus I do need a standard HW97 to compare against as a 'control'.
good excuse to buy more guns :D i own a self tuned prosport thats rather slick and smooth dont think its in the same league as these though.
and i think a standard RC servo mounted to the trigger guard with abit of modding on its control horn could be rigged to pull the trigger remotely easy enough.
hi mate great vblog. what would you say is best tuning kit for vermin control. ??
mine is bog standard at the moment. would like to tune it up.
just not sure which one.
mines .22
Hi mate . 22 is a bit easier to smooth out. All the kits make the guns feel smoother but in a different way. I would always advise actually shooting a gun fitted with the kit that you are contemplating before buying one yourself simply because you will prefer the way one shoots over the others and not everyone likes the same 'feel'. Of course price comes into it too. If you want quick, cheap results I would start with a simple Tinbum kit.
Cheers thank for advice
Cheers Andy
HOW Pellets group 30 40 50 meters ?
Even a standard HW97 is a superbly accurate rifle. All of these are crazy accurate. They shoot really tight groups at all ranges. They are very consistent over the chrono and this makes them very good for grouping.
Aha, what pellet details can you give us please, the ones you use to target shoot with
ty
I always use the same ones - H&N FTT
+shootingatdawn cheers same here, but in the weirauch 5.51 diameter, also noticed weight variation is less with the weihrauch branded product I'm getting a tbt 5.51 pellet sizer and intend to reduce their 5.53 to 5.51.
Interestingly with my cb625 chrono the .53's ave out at 10.62 ftlb and 564 while the .51 at 11.01 and 579 ..
Totally meaningless, albeit well-intentioned. In the slowed-down version, you can, clearly, see the influence that you are having on the movement of the gun. Only a remote trigger would give any sense of meaning, even then, the mass of each gun is different.
There's 6.38 minutes of my life I won't get back,pointless.
nice, interesting, whatever ... but useless.
