I had totally stopped flying both the Boeing 747 and the 787 since they made that update. I'm used to just picking out my departure and destination from the world map. Setting altitude, vertical speed and target destination. Once I manually fly it to 10000ft, I activate LNAV and it flies the route. That's all I wanted. Since the update the UA-cam instructors want you to do a cold start, which I've never wanted to do. Your presentation sequence was perfect, and following your steps I can fly them again. Thank you! I still like the old GPS way of doing it, but at least your way I can figure out.
Well, that is fantastic to hear. Yes, I included the minimum to do exactly what you want to do. Please do consider a subscription, as there are some exciting videos in production that have not announced publicly. Blue skies!
@@TheFlightLevel Thank you for your help. With your foundation, I found I can make it even easier, without manually inputting the waypoints between departure and arrival airport. I start with the world map, then use low or high altitude routing (vs my favorite which was GPS), which inserts the waypoints for me. Then as you showed I go through the legs, remove the discontinuities, hit EXEC. I set the altitude and vertical speed targets. I activate LNAV and Vnav before take off. Once I'm in the air, I click on autopilot, and the plane navigates from there. I would not have figured it out had you not at least given us steps without going through all of the startup stuff. Thanks.
Thank you very much. Great to hear this type of comment. This video is geared exactly for the casual player to get them dialed into an autopilot flight with the essential FMS data input.
One of the best tutorial I have come across. Will certainly be sending you my comments once I have used it as I have been having massive issues with B747 since AAU2

Hey, thanks for the visit and compliment! Just gave you the bare bones entry stuff and made some changes to highlight operations with the FMS. I will definitely consider the Dreamliner! Blue skies!
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I am pretty busy with a series of GA tutorials on a soon to be released airplane. I put your suggestion on my to do list …. time permitting! Thanks for watching!
So today I exactly did the same flight and followed every point from populating FMS to landing at Boston.I do not know what I did wrong but after take off and putting on the Auto Pilot the aircraft did not follow the flight plan and I had to interfere manually 18:12 to change the heading towards Kirex.Thereafter it followed the Flight Plan but then closer to destination did not intercept the localiser or the glide scope. l did land but after taking manual control at FL4000.Maybe I will go over it again and see if I have erred at some point.
Please report back when you try the flight again. I suspect you did not turn on the AP soon enough and were at the wrong height when engaging the approach. Good luck!
Hey just wondering, I already know the basics but like if I’m flying from say Usa to Europe and while setting up the fmc in Europe I select rwy 09 In London for when I arrive but fast forward 6 Hours and the winds change, am I able go change to Rwy 27 while in the air and delete 09?
Also, does AUTOLAND appear automatically - once you the LOC and GS has been armed? Cos I did this and I never had AUTOLAND it said NO AUTOLAND. I do set my flights and take off and approaches on the WORLD MAP - does that have something to do with it?
Not all ILS systems incorporate the autoland capabilities. Setting your departure and arrival on the world map would not affect this feature. Blue skies!
Thank you! Much appreciated! Yes, I am a real pilot. I haven’t kept an absolute track of sim hours, but it would be several thousand over 3 decades. Please do consider a subscription to the channel. Lots of great videos published on a regular basis. Blue skies!
@@TheFlightLevelSir, It's an honour to have you here on UA-cam! I'm a newbie just getting started with flight simulation and its an absolute pleasure seeing you do the flying and these videos with finesse. Subscribed! 👍
Hi.. how do you get the autoland land3 to activate on the pfd? Does it come automatically after ils interception or do we have to switch some button. I fly ils approaches as shown here but disengage the autopilot near runway threshold and land manually. Interested in knowing how to autoland and flare automatically.
The autoland is dependent on the ILS. Not all ILS approaches incorporate the degree of precision and vertical guidance required for the autoland. Yes, the autoland comes on automatically. The aircraft must also have the required onboard navigation equipment to use the autoland system.
Yes I just figured that out too. Did a perfect autoland approach. Used ils and approach mode. I was playing the asobo default 747 8i. Your video was very insightful in learning process. Will watch out for more. Subscribing :)
Well done. Great tutorial. No music, no prattling on just clear and concise explanation.

Glad it was helpful! I really enjoyed putting this tutorial together. Cheers!
This tutorial was very helpful. Can you please make a tutorial video like this for the Boeing 787-10?
Hey, thanks for the visit and compliment! Just gave you the bare bones entry stuff and made some changes to highlight operations with the FMS. I will definitely consider the Dreamliner! Blue skies!
They work the same way. I tried his steps on the Boeing 787, and it works just as well.
When i fly with the 747 everything is good except from the fact that on the fms i don't have the top of descent marker. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Hey can you show how to do Step climbs ?

When I press APPROACH button on the panel it sometimes will not intercept the glidepath (RNAV).
Hi. You must be the correct height according to the chart to intercept the ILS. Thanks for watching!

How can I know what is my E/D altitude?

Hi! Thanks for the visit. Can you explain a little more?
I realize what you are asking now. The altitudes are read from the charts.
