- So it was a couple months ago that one of my friends dm'd me a link to a Twitter thread, and on that note I'll be in the cold cold ground before I call it X. Said thread contained links to every delisted Spider-Man game on pc. And I'm a connoisseur of Spider-Man games, having played at least the majority of them over time. So this is something that was right at my alley. I downloaded every single one of them and had a night sampling each game. Some of these were ports, some of these were unique entities that only existed on pc, some of them I've already covered on this very channel. So I thought I'd open this puzzle box and take a look at what we have. Do they hold up as games, are they good ports, do they even function? We'll see.

Body surfing in Web of Shadows is still my favorite Spider-Man moment in gaming and made the game in my opinion.
Absolutely. I made the closest aproximation I could into a signature move for a cahracter I played in a Vampire the Masquerade campaign.

32:04 Actually, Shattered Dimensions predates the original Spider-Verse event by a few years, so this is probably at least partial inspiration for it.
At least Dan Slott mentioned that the game's plot was an inspiration for his event. But there already was a similar story in the last arc of 90s Spider-man TAS, also there were crossovers between Amazing and 2099 in the 90 comics, so he is not totally wrong

Spider-Man TAS predates Shattered Dimensions which did the Spider-Verse in the series finale, so technically he isn't wrong in saying that.
Which was itself based on the Spider-Wars arc of the 90's animated series, it's not like Slott is particularly original in his writing anyway.
Web of shadows combat is so fire, outside of flashy moves, just being able to take the fight anywhere at anytime is a spiderman lovers dream. From the ground to the side of a building, to the air ect ect. It really was ahead of its time

I'd still rather play Edge of Time than play Amazing Spider-Man 2 ever again, at least edge of Time had a pretty damn good story and great voice acting from the two best Spider-Man VAs. Christopher Daniel Barnes is so underrated man, and his Miguel was perfect. Josh Keaton Spidey isn't underrated but it also definitely deserves all the praise it gets.
As an aside Yuri would probably be my 3rd place spot, Rino as an honourable 4th.
I'm confused about his beef with Edge of Time
I had a lot of fun with the first Sam Raimi movie game due in no small part to them bringing back all the same special web moves from the earlier 2 games. And then they let you get upgraded versions of them all. Hitting a goon with a pumpkin-sized wad of impact web never got old. And then I discovered the Green Goblin mode.

Seems like this video should have just been called i played every Spider-Man game there's only like 4 or 5 other ones i know of and three of them are the insomniac ones. It really is ridiculous all these games are unavailable.
Spider-Man has 20+ games to his name. Not to mention how many he's appeared in.

@@goodgame764 different games. If we count different versions it's a lot more than 20. Just from the top of my head starting from 1995 there's 23 I could name. Not including different versions of the same game nor including games he shares with other people. Spidey has a ton of gaming stuff and unlike ninja turtles, it's legacy is not treated right
Just the 2d consoles spiderman appeared on is more than 4, atari, commodore, nes, snes, gba off the top of my head, and each has multiple games except maybe atari

I bought it on release for a PC that was not quite up to snuff. It was rough. Later on I gave it a replay on a proper good machine and was shocked to find out that the graphic glitches and poor textures were the way the game was on PC. It was an all right game, but not really worth the wait.
Old gamepads only had 6 buttons (4 face and 2 shoulders) and for some reason thr L3 and R3 buttons of modern controllers get recognized as those old shoulder buttons

For applying patches to old pc games you have to put the patch exe into the games file directory and run it there for it to find the game files.
My very first videogame was a spiderman 1+2 combo on my new Gameboy advance SP Christmas 2005 I think. That and sonic genesis. I loved them both

Related to the movie tie in thing, but Percy Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (I love how stupidly long that title is) is another in the very small list of "6th gen era tie-in games that somehow feel on-par with the mainstream games", I would advise checking that one out since it does feel like there is a good amount of passion poured into it

You should play the delisted Need For Speed pc games. About a year ago I went down a rabbit hole of getting a dubiously acquired copy of NFS Undercover to run after finding out I'm one of 3 people that like it
38:54 that's actually lore accurate for both the movie and the comics. TASM Peter was inspired by falling into an old wrestling area with a mask poster nearby and Comic Peter had a career in wrestling before he became a hero. So him having those moves is in line.

I loved the ultimate Spider-Man. Gameplay wise it felt really close to Spiderman 2, especially with the webswinging. The artstyle of the game was really cool too. I think they did an amazing job of bringing a comicbook to 3D. Easily one of the best spiderman games.
11:40 Not anymore. Ever since Far From Home and later the Spider-Manless Sony Spin off films exist, most people have been saying Spider-Man 3 is a masterpiece, or a solid conclusion to the Rami Trilogy, or even a good Spider-Man movie.

Spider-Man 2000, Spider-Man 2 (PS2), Ultimate Spider-Man and Shattered Dimensions are my top favorites as a kid. Just brings me so much memories everytime I look at these timeless classics.
I still have my Web of Shadows PC copy, though it's only in Spanish rather than being multi-language. The dub is... not very good, but having bought the physical copy cleared my conscience for when I downloaded the English version. I still give it a replay from time to time.

Remembering that Friend or Foe was made by Next Level Games still surprises me (the same studio behind Punch Out Wii and Luigi’s Mansion 2 and 3, whom Nintendo now own). It’d be interesting if they got to make a new Spidey game, but I think Sony are keeping solo Spider-Man adventures exclusive for as long as they can. With Microsoft now having a Blade game in the works I’m curious what Marvel property Nintendo would most likely want as an exclusive.

I actually have Web of Shadows, only thing is that the Wii Version. Now I don’t like motion controls, but it works SURPRISINGLY well. The controls are shockingly decent and responsive, and it actually runs decent
Oh, memories. I remember playing that god awful Spiderman 2 pc.
I even finished it a couple of times.
It surely had variety, but yeah, a mess it was and a mess it stays.
I never even noticed the main mission path being repetitious, that goes to show how amazing this game is. I was always intrigued about what was happening next, the music was a banger and every new character and fight kept being greater that i never noticed. WTF this is a mindblowing revelation for me fr, i need to check a walkthrough of this game cos i don't believe you even lol. This is all there is in the main path and it's still my 2nd fav Spidey game? (1st being Spider-Man 2 PS2. I also loved Spider-Man 3 on PS2 because of how well handled the black suit was, OST was a banger and it was my introduction to Morbius. I loved that boss fight, still mid game though lol)
Amazing spider man 2 was my first ps4 game i got and the first console game I've ever played. I only played an hour of it but I still have the copy in my house. Since it's now rare I'll make sure that I will preserve it.
I noticed the way you were swinging in Ultimate Spider-Man, you do not use the web crawl mechanic at all which you should because it makes the swinging sooo much better

Pretty sure it hasn't aged very well (also the story and characters are basic, especially Claude who doesn't even speak) but it still deserves a separate video.

Holyfuckingshit, I had no idea about the frame rate issues and played Spider-Man 2000 on PC when i was like 11 or something. ( i mastered that game BTW) all those issues happened to me and i just assumed it was due to being an old game that just was kinda buggy because that's how games used to be lmfao. Dying over and over with that crate, the venom chase sequence, Rhino, the glass breaking, the audio issues, Man what a nostalgic ride you took me on. I still love this game. Maybe i'll try to emulate it to see how much better that is. Haven't finished the sequel. I also had the same glitch with Shattered Dimensions all the way back in 2013, also im pretty sure TASM does have races?
tried Spidey 2002 once and hated
I finally got my hands on Spider-Man 2 on PC after hearing for years how good it was and i fucking hated it. I could not believe this was the game people loved. I then learned the difference but i still am not a fan of Spider-Man 2 2004.
The rest of the games I poured maybe 100s of hours into except TASM 2. I LOVED TASM 1 and was very disappointed in 2. Shattered Dimensions was amazing to me and then edge of time sucked and Yes, even Spider-Man 3 as recently as last year i beat my like 5th time or something. Except for TASM2, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 2002 I regulary go back and replay all of these games. Spidey games usually cook, I'd argue in terms of numbers he has the best catalogue of games of any superhero and yes that includes Batman. Theres less than 10 great Batman games.
Ultimate Spider-Man was my first Spidey game. It has so much charm and racing The Human Torch will forever be ingrained in my mind. TASMs story really grabbed me, Web of Shadows is peak combat and second in swinging, Shattered Dimension is fun and the best aesthetically and Spider-Man 2000 is pure comic shlocky goodness, Friend or Foe is fun with a friend in short bursts and Spider-Man 3 is super nostalgic. Those quick time events TRAINED me
I don't see Edge of Time here. Is that still available to buy somewhere? But thanks for the awareness to this link. I've wanted to get my hands on Shattered Dimensions for awhile and the others are a nice bonus.

I understand your criticisms with them, but 2000, and Ultimate were my favorite Spidey games before the Insomniac ones started. I love those ones and have no problem going back and replaying them again and again.

I swear, Tobey McGuire acts more like Spider-Man in the Rami Games then how he was in the Rami Movies. Granted, he was a good Peter Parker in those films, but not a good Spider-Man.

@ShockwaveFPSStudios He acts like Spider-Man in the movies. He quips more with his villains than Holland did with his. His lines are the most quotable of all three actors. His Spider-Man didn't have as much room to quip because a majority of his scenes were tense moments (same type where Andrew and Tom didn't quip either)

The ones in Mass effect work because they're not multiple cutscenes stitched together with the barest attempt at interactability. Instead you're directing the conversation in a certain direction. Which while not mind blowing, makes the conversation trees actually worthwhile.

I'm surprised you didn't know that Ultimate Spider-Man was based on a comic book series of the same name, which is set in a more modern and grounded version of Earth where Peter Parker is still in high school as Spider-Man, in a world with superhumans but they are more outwardly flawed and realistic to their situation, such as Captain America being a French-hating patriotic bigot more akin to the soldiers of the WWII era at the time rather than a selfless paragon like in the main comic storyline. The MCU by the way was heavily influenced by the Ultimate Marvel Universe comics themselves, with Samuel L. Jackson's casting being a reference to how Nick Fury in the Ultimate comics was drawn to look like Jackson.
I'm aware of it, I just didn't differentiate that I was referring to the comics when I said "Ultimate Spider-Man I believe is based around teenage Spider-Man"
19:19 Funnily enough, the GBA game fixes this by letting you find upgrades in each level. Each one gives some of your health a white trim where the hunger stops decreasing, so even from the first levels, hunger can't kill you.
The GBA version was surprisingly competent for the time. Made for a pretty decent beat 'em up.

I tried to get these emulators to work. Downloaded everything, extracted the files, then couldn’t even open the game. I even followed the instruction file in the game folder

I honestly agree about the idea of Spider-Man 2002 basically being the 3rd game in the 2000 games *2000 and then enter electro* since they do play the same, granted I always enjoyed the transition from going through the stages from 2000 and enter electro *like video game stages and environments of NYC* to the idea of a more bigger budget title, as for the voice acting, I can't really bring myself to hate the performance of 2002, 🙏 as I do tend to say them myself quite a bit *if anything I memorize more of the lines from 2002 moreso than 2000 and enter electro* ironically enough Spider-Man 2 on psp plays the same as these games I'm bringing up 😂 so a Spider-Man ps1 quadrilogy if you will
Ngl, I have both versions growing up, but the PS2 PSP and Wii version of Spider-Man 3 despite having terrible graphics and seemed watered down, is way better than the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC version.
The gameplay is better, the web swinging feels better, the missions are done better, transforming back and forth between red and black suit was cool, taking over territories felt more engaging than the 360 version.
I used to hate the PS2 version and wanted the 360 version at the time, ended up getting the 360 version later and it wasn't really all that good. The best thing about the 360 version was being able to go into the subway and sewers whenever you want, walking around train stations was cool. Most missions sucked though. Had some cool qte moments.
Tasm 2 and 1 game is fire

When it comes to wos the wii version could’ve ran pretty good on ps2\psp if the developers tried. Since some of the games that came out on those consoles at the time were the same just had different controls and graphics resolutions

I agree Amazing Spiderman was better than Raimi's. Nobody made being Spiderman look more fun in the first movie than Garfield did, and then the most miserable at the end of part 2. His was the grittiest AND most fun version. There were things that happened in Raimi's trilogy that made no sense whatsoever, like demonstrating super powerful, untested technology in SOMEONE'S APARTMENT and that impossible triple flip in the air when Peter suddenly dodged Flash despite never demonstrating that kind of athleticism before.

42:00 Nah, people still hate Amazing 2. Only the first one has gotten reappprasial mostly thanks to Andrew Garfield stealing the show in No Way Home. I remember even at the tame people thought Amazing 2 was mediocre at best.

i grew up with the activision marvel games, some stinkers and some genuinely good games, sucks u cant play them anymore
I prefer the PS2/Wii version of Spider-Man 3 the Movie the Game, over the other PS3/360/PC Version. For one thing, the graphics doesn’t look like shit, and while most of the cutscenes are lower res versions of the HD versions, the some of the cutscenes were brand new and look decent.
I wouldn’t say the PS2 version’s good, but I would say it’s not bad.

You should do a video discussing why quick time events are good in some games, like God of War, and bad in others, like Spider-Man 3

Okay well to give a more thorough response. There are three types of Quick Time Events.
1. The enemy is stunned, press X to finish them off, those are fine. Because it's one button press and in games like re4 are a reward for playing well.
2. Mash the button to kill the thing, those are also fine because they take effort and also create synchronicity with the player character in that the button mashing often matches the effort the player character is putting in.
3. Press X to not die in the middle of a cutscene. These are the ones I take issue with because unlike the first two examples, there's no way to predict it the first time, and more to the point there's no actual gameplay. It's the equivalent of a DVD that spontaneously pauses itself and you have to unpause it in a time limit.

First of all, these things aren't mutually exclusive. Second of all there definitely are "anti-modern thing" people. I see it everyday. If certain people have come around on it, fair enough, but then I'm not referring to them. Third of all, the statement was not really meant to be taken that seriously. Fourth of all, my opinions on Spider-Man 3 are very much my own. Perhaps they're outdated because I haven't watched the movie lately, but everything I think about that movie is 100% genuine.
