Orbital and Rob Zombies specials honestly are great for one reason most other specials dont have: combo potential. If you have an auto lob and fire it while your opponent is being sucked in they'll be taking a hefty chunk of damage and there's almost nothing they'll do about it. It also addresses the primary issue of the auto lob sometimes knocking opponents away before the full auto lob barrage hits them
I'd also like to add on that Orbital and Rob Zombie's specials are quite useful if you know how to rapid fire attacks. One unique aspect of TM4 is that each weapon has its own individual cooldown. When you shoot a weapon, you can immediately switch to the next weapon in your inventory and shoot it too. Orbital/Rob Zombie's basically become a death trap, because if you have enough weapons on hand, you can spam all of them at once and take out a good chunk of an enemy's health while they're trapped. I'm not sure if TBP is aware of rapid firing in TM4. When I watched his TM4 review, I don't recall seeing him doing it. This would probably explain why he finds the TM4 tournament modes to be so long; it goes along much quicker when you start rapid firing weapons.
@@Hyde233not to mention that if you use massive attack while cycling your weapons you can delete pretty much anyone's health bar in the game. Teleorb locking them in place just pretty much turns this into a free kill
I assume you weren't aware, but the rat rocket for Vermin piloted actually can home in and snip anything from across the map. Instead of steering it, once the reticle is red you hit fire again, and zoom over to whatever was locked on. It is so good, and over powered in pop. You could just hide, and snip people with auto tracking 50 damage rockets.
He also forgot that the Outlaw taser in Head-On does more damage by spamming the fire button which turns the arc red for every button press, I'm not sure if that's the case with the other TMs

you were using crazy 8's special incorrectly, if you mash the Dpad in the direction of the enemy and mash the fire button it does more damage to the point where it can instantly kill any car in a matter of less than a second if you got good mashing its quite honestly in the top 10 imo with this trick and crazy 8's my go to because of it
There IS one more thing about the Crazy 8 attack. If you press the same direction button 3 times and then attack, you get a more damaging surge that you could also mash the shoot button for to make it more powerful. It makes Crazy 8 insanely overpowered in the right hands, especially online. Also I'd say the derivative nature in this case isn't as bad because Outlaw IS his own character in Black with his own special attack, so it's not like a slot was stolen.
Also technically speaking, Crazy 8 was supposed to be a cop car before becoming what we know now, so it having a pseudo-omni taser actually makes sense.
For Reaper you are supposed to let the RPG cook (leave it for a set time) for max damage. The use isn't intended to be shot at cars but at the landscape and blow up everything in its blast range. It's essentially a more powerful remote bomb that is VERY hard to spot for an opponent.
Warthog's special from 2012 was probably the best special in that game. The only drawback for it is that it exposes a weak point on the undercarriage while you charge it up but it could easily kill multiple opponents in one blast. I regularly won games online using this back in the day and I was even rank 16 on the leaderboards at one point. I don't blame you for not trying to unlock him but I had so much fun with this back in the day I felt like I had to say something.
I was a senior in hs when 2012 came out, I was so stoked on it. I enjoyed it. It's weird and different, but it just added to me enjoying the series right as I'd turned 18
Man, I've got nothing but respect for the amount of time, recording and writing this must have taken. Thoroughly enjoyable watch tho, thank Mr TBP! (ngl Spectre in TM:B was done dirty 😢)
I gotta say, I really like the intro with the bacon. It’s honestly so simple, but very appropriate and memorable. Plus the video is cool, so happy Calypso’s special weapon is so high up.
Side note for the Mounted Gunner for Oulaw in TM Black. There's a laser sight thatll show up in the front of the vehicle if youre facing an opponent. Which, whill let you fire blood missles. Which makes the special not just a set and forget weapon. Also, Crazy 8 also has the same button mashing mechanic as Outlaw in Small Brawl. Which increases damage the more you tap the fire button. In TM 3, Roadkill’s special is easier to use if you ram into them then fire it off like how the napalm could be used like in tm2 when you ram your opponent from the side. As far as the mimic attack, I feel like if there was a teleport/hyperspace/magic satchel, it would have the ability to make itself stand out.
So... something about Vermin and the Piloted Rat Rocket. Notice the reticle on that going red? You can fire it again while the reticle is red to have it track super-fast onto a target and score more reliable hits in exchange for better than normal but not as good as a full pilot damage. Think the base is 30, piloted is 100, and this semi-piloted version is 55 or something in terms of damage. I've used Vermin before, and this lock-on mechanic does actually make him good as a surveying platform in addition to being a pest on the battlefield who can fuck off to a corner of the map and make a big chunk of it his domain to plink at enemies with.
It's Friday night, I just finished 12 days of work in a row, I have the weekend off, my hot water if finally working again, and Tactical Bacon Productions released a 2 hour Twisted Metal ranking. I am where I need to be this evening.
I recommend reading a guidebook for Twisted Metal Black because you missed out the bonuses regarding Yellow Jacket's, Crazy 8's, and Outlaw's specials! Still, a very enjoyable video and a job very well done 😁
If i remember correctly junk yard dog in tm 2012 had a healer special use in coop/online, wouldnt that affect his position? Excellent video, i wish you do the same with vigilante 8 series, i feel outside tm is the most notable of all the demolition derby games of that time, also was lore wise really interesting
This was a really nice video to watch, a lot of nostalgia on display. It was really cool seeing all the 2012 specials again, as that game gets left out of a lot of lists and videos. Having played it in its heyday on PS3, it was my favorite competitive experience but all that's left now is single player, which was never really the point of the game. One of the specials that wasn't talked about here because I believe it was team online only was Junkyard Dog's healing taxi. In team modes, he could heal team mates using his alt special instead of using it as a remote bomb. This made him an anchor pick in team games and even had rules set in place that only one was allowed per team. It was really cool that the community set up formats to make the game more competitive and fun. And yeah, they banned Talon from a lot of formats cause it was simply too good at everything and even had more health than Crimson Fury and Reaper.
At this point, I am convinced that TBP will do any Twisted Metal rankings for the little things. _Makes me wonder if he’s gonna do the Twisted Metal waifus ranked as a joke video._ 🤔
The other funny thing about Brimstones special in Black is that the "Follower" that he fires at his enemies yells "REPENT!" when you press the fire button.
I loved playing brimstone against my buddy back in the day! "hey man I see you are low on health. It'd be a shame if you had to... REPENT!" Great memories there
I recently replayed Black as Axel and to me his wheel special is actually underrated. It is hard to ram into an opponent if you don't freeze them first but if you do land it while boosting against a weaker vehicle like Spectre or Mr Grimm you can take away almost a third of their health, plus it slightly increases your top speed and decreases incoming damage so you can use it to get away if you're low on boost and energy.
This is just so cool! Almost every time the coming of a new TBP video feels like a mini-Christmas Eve (or mini-Christmas Day if you're from a country where Christmas Day is a bigger day than Christmas Eve). And I meant that seriously.
I can say I largely agree, and you did a good job on this crazy list. The one counterpoint from personal preference is that I would've ranked Crazy 8's special higher since you could do a multiplier charge attack that caused a ton of satisfying extra damage and you could use it freely when the weapon was out but not being used on an enemy. It's just a fun little thing where you'd make the tesla coils arc to one another for funsies as you drove around, and it always pleased me to do so
Hello, I've been watching a lot of your Twisted Metal videos lately, and I wanted to give my opinion on the events in TM. It's mostly just crack pot theories but, I think Sweet Tooth, Marcus and Calypso are all manifestation of a teens head, either living with neglectful, or abusive parents. With Sweet Tooth being his ID as as you called it previously and Marcus and Calypso being his ego and super ego. Sweet Tooth his carnal instinct to do bad things to people who do bad things to him, well Marcus and Calypso are his reason. The Twisted Metal tournaments are like all his personalities coming together to fight for his sanity and his superior mindset. This can also explain the games lack of continuity, Small Brawl was when he was a child, 3 and 2 are when he was still young maybe 12 or so and Black well was when he was a teen. It's not a perfect theory but it's something.
You know, for a vehicle that's a reference to the Death Race Mustang, I'm surprised that neither of Death Warrant's specials were anything related to the Tombstone
I found stocking spectres special in tmb and firing it as a volley of multiple missiles through walls and certain angles always guaranteed 1 or 2 kills. Spectre is balanced out with being one of the best vehicles in game in terms of performance so just fighting with regular weapons was fine
About Reaper's RPG in 2012, it's actually pretty easy to aim down and shoot it so that it sticks to yourself if I remember correctly, meaning you can just shield and drive at somebody and blow yourself up for damage (I don't remember if getting the max 120 damage can only be done by sticking it to an enemy or if they just have to be close enough to it)
Crazy 8’s Field Surge can do more damage if you tap the fire button repeatedly when shocking and do “Max Damage” if you tap the directional pad 3 times in the direction of an enemy, fire, then tap the fire button repeatedly. I think that’s worth mentioning and the reason it was my favorite special attack in TM: Black.
I didn't expect to see Twister in Top 10, I think her special is iconic, even that some enemies can attack to Twister and kill her (I'm seeing Thumper first and then Spectre)... I always thought that her special wasn't od this world. I appreciate the whole top, it must've been a huge work!
Even though I'm not particularly great at any Twisted Metal game, I've always loved them since boyhood. I'm really loving your retrospectives on this underrated series. Keep on chooglin', man 🤘
I’ve seen some skilled players use Road Boats Projectiles in tight areas, such as up ramps with walls and alleyways. It is hard to indicate where they are going though. If you can position well and predict enemy vehicles positions, it can be a really reliable special
Man I loved Twisted Metal 2012, I only hope that the rumored next game don't screw up, giving the fact that David Jaffe isn't working with Sony anymore. Btw man, great video, 10/10
Yo Moon Strike? Blazing Dynamo? A Twisted Metal Fan, an old wrestling mark, AND a Legend of Dragoon fan? You just earned yourself a sub after binging your content my good sir.
Bro, you left out Crazy 8's secret special Max attack and the sheer fun of landing the direction and shredding the other cars with the cool tesla arc, I'd say the list is unfortunately underrepresented but fun
Spectre's Ghost missile in Black is not a garrunteed hit. You can outrun it because it has a range limit and it moves slow enough most vehicles can escape it given enough distance and a full bar of boost.
Mr. Slam is my favourite TM character of all time. It's a shame that he didn't appear in Black and various games and also it's kinda frustrating that the slamming moves are copied multiple times and slapped on different characters throughout the series. I love the concept of a mad construction vehicle relentlessly chipping away other vehicles even though it looks goofy when I slam a vehicle that's bigger than the bulldozer.
I don't remember being able to charge up Charger's special in Black. Thanks for that tip. There are so many secret moves in these games! I love it. According to the comments it sounds like you are missing a few. Might be a good idea for a video. "Secret Attacks" and how to use them.
For what it's worth, Roadkill can point blank his special (the same way you can point blank the mortars in TM3 and 4), but that does completely defeat the purpose of his special in 3.
Juggernauts Drop Mines can all be realeased at once if you store up multiple specials. Better yet, if you activate the mines, dont release them and jackknife the truck, hitting the enemy with the trailer will do extra damage. Road Boats Magnets damage came from grabbing a car, using megaguns and shotguns when attached, and turbo ramming walls and other contestants. SweetBot also did a sick TurboRam animation where he does a Shoulder Tackle. I don't think Bacon knows about the TurboRam since he likely emulated the game and it requires pushing the Sixaxis controller forward costing Half of your turbo.
While Im here Id like to add that Iron Maiden isn't that bad when you know you can aim any weapons upwards with the right stick. They added that so player's could fire unguided weapons at Talon. Megaguns, power missles, and chainsaws melt her.
I find raven gunner works for a different reason than you would think, TBP. Raven in black is diagnosed with Bipolar 1 and in the rooftops level, her loading screen mentions her wanting to just drive off the edge and not need to feel anything anymore. Her being in a gunner seat above her car would make her more vulnerable, hence easier to be killed, which she wanted aside from getting revenge, but calypso helped her get away from.
In the future, I was hoping if you can do rank every playable characters in the twisted metal series from worst to best based on not only gameplay experience, but your personal favorite character as well.
Oh thank god, a video I can finally fall asleep to, thank you bacon Btw if sweet tooth from Black isn’t at least top 3 I’m coming to your house tonight
Crazy 8's special can be coupled with L2 spam to make it a bit more powerful, and Spectre's special is really good in big maps where you can just aim someone-red marker-fire away. The only place where it wouldn't work for me is Warhawk's Safe Cover and only when firing at Warhawk. Otherwise, solid lists.
The magnetic projectile from roadboat can do up tu 150 damage if the projectiles hit a wall before hitting an enemy. It worcs like a ricochet. The reticle coffin from shadow can be used as a remote bomb and it can do up to 120-130 damage, plus hitting multiple enemies although it isn't hard to dodge. The blood missiles from outlaw in twisted metal 2012 can be rear fired as the grenade launcher.
Did you know there's a button combination you can press to make shadow topless in her alt fire in Twisted Metal Black? With the special selected, hold down all four trigger buttons and press triangle triangle triangle.
Glad you made the distinction on "Broken" special attacks too. Otherwise the top of this list would be VERY predictable. Henchmen is just one of those attacks where it's not even just BS in its own game series but possibly one of the most unfair attacks in gaming history. "But you can use shield and teleport cheats", do you guys REMEMBER being a whiney 6 year old in the 90's who didn't know how to activate freeze missiles and other button input commands? Because I do. Just like MK fatalities, there was a time where you either knew or you didn't and FINDING OUT how to do these things was a lot, LOT harder, and what that translated to was ENDURING Twisted Metal 4 until the final boss just tore your *** open for the first time and you got sent back to the beginning of the game. Running into that boss blind without knowledge of how to activate your shields was a DEATH SENTENCE. People tend to look back at games like these from the perspective of hardened veterans well versed with how it works rather than the dumb little babies we STARTED the game as, AKA, the average user experience. PS: Next to Black, TM4 is actually one of my favorite TM games. It's extremely flawed, yeah, but the charm is all there and that's where my subjectivity comes into play. I mention all of this because it's really easy to confuse any negativity towards the game for hatred these days.
So a couple of notes for Vermin's special Piloted Rat Rocket you did not mention that you don't have to manually steer it into enemies. you can actually blow it up at any time for an area of effect damage. also you can make it auto steer into someone as blazing speeds making it the fastest attack in the game. you can do this if the reticle is red. this acts as a way to catch distant enemies who are far away at the cost of less overall damage done. For Road boat Mega-Magnet while its an alright special most players actually use it to abuse the very powerful mega guns attracting the enemy to the magnet then getting an almost impossible to survive beat down from Mega guns especially for vehicle with low armor. at 1:27:32 hard disagree. its not just a chainsaw its a flamesaw. its very twisted and fits right in with the most iconic of twisted metal specials/weapons.
I think there's one specific use for orbitals teleorb that might justify its low damage, and it's sorta related to Lucio from overwatch or the force a nature from TF2: launching enemies into stage hazards and traps. If you recall from another video you made, Mr bacon, tm4 has player controlled stage hazards. With the teleorb, you can launch opponents into them, the freeze sets them all up, and you trigger the trap to deal a massive blow to several enemies at once. There's also a case to be made of being able to launch enemies off cliffs or straight into other enemies attacks too. It's niche as hell, but so we're the character and weapon that came to mind when you talked about it
Shadow's charged coffin bomb carried me through the Juggernaut levels. All I'd do it crap it out in the path of the Juggernauts and wait for them to ram into it. Double damage since it hit the grille so that's a good 240 when fully charged.
There is ONE thing that could maybe up Yellowjacket's Stingers a point or two? It absolutely MURDERS Warhawk because of it's nature as a flying enemy, the spikes are HOMING so you'll get, on average, 4 stingers hitting the helicopter everytime you fire. Also hoping you cover the sheer MONSTEROUS power of Crazy 8's CHARGED Taser (Double tap a direction before you fire, enemy in that direction? Oh they are about to lose just about ALL of their health)
Don't suppose you're a Mega Man fan? I'm still kinda new to the channel, but have been enjoying the back catalog of Twisted Metal videos. I'd love to see this kind of analysis done for the weapons, Robot Masters, etc. of the Mega Man games. ... No pressure if you're not! I'll keep enjoying the usual content. :)
Club Kid's special was my favourite when I was a kid, really good special and always troublesome when you played with a friend. I laughed when you mentioned Henchmen, it was always a death sentence when you were hit by it. I remember always saving energy to get invencible when Sweet Tooth used his special.
The thing I loved about outlaw's omnitaser in TM3 was that if you quickly spammed a bunch of them using the rear fire command then made first contact with another vehicle, the game would apply the momentum of every lightning bolt at once. With cheats enabled you could trivially launch cars all the way up to the instant death plane at the top of the level. This was nostalgic, cheers.
I'm a little upset that you forgot some special interactions some specials have. Even though my main gripe is grab specials being low for how fun they are. But people do have different playstyles. Crazy 8 special haves 2 interactions that if you mash the direction you want to use it and it'll do heavy damage to the person in that direction. mash left and you'll see electric current on your left. second part of his special is you can mash R2 to increase the damage output. So doing that along with the max charged shock does do some scary damage. Outlaw in black chain gun special also have a mash R2 for extra damage. Roadkill in TM2 special can always be called back early if you miss and you'll get your special back. TM3 haves a weird bug with rear attack that let you chain specials faster then what your suppose to be. A thing I liked to do was make club kid special drop 3 times in one spot. It was always funny because the pull from all 3 made it hard to escape. Which can also apply to auger drill if time right with the chain rear attack you can extend the drill special but it was hard to time for me.
I didn't hear it talked about but Outlaw in Black has another function to his special, if enemies are directly in front of you which is indicated by the red laser sight and you tap the first button while the machine gun is active, it fires off what I believe are called Bloodhound Missiles, you get a damage bonus if you manage to hit 10! Also Warthog in the 2012 version takes double damage to the front while the bottom is exposed during the special attacks. idk if that effects the scoring or not.
Me and my brother use to play TM3 when we were younger all the time and his favorite character was Spectre and mines was Warthog(even though he was super slow). I always like his special and the sound effect it made. Also Thumper, Outlaw, and club kid were fun to play with as well. As a kid I never got to play as Sweethtooth because we didnt know how to unlock him even tho I always wanted to.i remember playing TM4 at my cousins house and just for fun we played as Sweethtooth and Moonbuggy and the cpu didnt stand a chance. We were trying to limit how many times we used their specials, especially Sweethtooth.
In the original teaser of Twisted Metal: Black, the Junkyard Dog was very clearly shown towing another vehicle behind it. This was undoubtedly supposed to be his Special, because when the game came out and the action was never implemented, the Oil Can/ Spike Ball attack was clearly used to replace it. So seeing the Taxi Detonator in future titles shows that they had the idea but it just wasn't ready yet.
Pleasantly surprised to see several of the Small Brawl specials I designed in the top 50.

What's the difference in damage when you press the same direction button 3 times vs just tapping the attack button over n over
For Reaper you are supposed to let the RPG cook (leave it for a set time) for max damage. The use isn't intended to be shot at cars but at the landscape and blow up everything in its blast range. It's essentially a more powerful remote bomb that is VERY hard to spot for an opponent.
Also he didn't use crazy 8 special at maximum
As a life long fan of twisted metal games, this was an absolute ranking masterpiece! Thank you!
Very cool
Chances are you killed me back then 😂
I was a senior in hs when 2012 came out, I was so stoked on it.
Just started watching. Even before seeing where you’ve ranked everything, even if we don’t wind up agreeing, mad respect to this comittment
Actually you forgot the fact that when you repeatedly press the fire button for crazy 8 also it does extra damage
Fun fact, in TM2012, you can straight up one-shot Juggernaughts if you hit the front panel with a flaming chainsaw!
At this point, I am convinced that TBP will do any Twisted Metal rankings for the little things.
_Makes me wonder if he’s gonna do the Twisted Metal waifus ranked as a joke video._ 🤔
every twisted metal character ranked by how much i want to fuck them
Dollface all the way.
You are the GOD of twisted metal related reviews and rankings, I only hope you don't run out of things to talk about with these games
I cant express how much I love this channel
The other funny thing about Brimstones special in Black is that the "Follower" that he fires at his enemies yells "REPENT!" when you press the fire button.
I loved playing brimstone against my buddy back in the day!
"hey man I see you are low on health. It'd be a shame if you had to... REPENT!"
Great memories there
I recently replayed Black as Axel and to me his wheel special is actually underrated.
Where is Christmas Eve bigger than Christmas Day?
@@pharmcat8484 Sorry, I worded the comment a bit badly. But what I meant was that some countries celebrate Christmas on 24th and some 25th.
It's just a fun little thing where you'd make the tesla coils arc to one another for funsies as you drove around, and it always pleased me to do so
#45 says the vehicle's name is Zoomy Missles 😆 Death Warrant does sound like a cool special though 👀
About Reaper's RPG in 2012, it's actually pretty easy to aim down and shoot it so that it sticks to yourself if I remember correctly, meaning you can just shield and drive at somebody and blow yourself up for damage (I don't remember if getting the max 120 damage can only be done by sticking it to an enemy or if they just have to be close enough to it)
Yeah tbh sweet tooths twisted metal black special, and grasshoppers special are for sure my top 2💪🏾 Awesome video man I love your content
Gotta give you props for adding Dragon Ball Z Abridged on Pizza Boy's placement, which was a well executed joke.
My boy making it to the top is absolutely supreme!
Going full blast at a person with Manslaughter and pairing it with the special is extremely destructive.
This was epic. Great job 😎 a lot of my favs def made the top of your list
Awesome breakdown, looks like a ton of work but please keep up the efforts! Well done sir
Even though I'm not particularly great at any Twisted Metal game, I've always loved them since boyhood. I'm really loving your retrospectives on this underrated series. Keep on chooglin', man 🤘
27:45 ive managed to get 150 damage with road boats special from rico damage, somehow usually when i cant even see the projectiles anymore
I really appreciate the amount of time that has been put into it.
They shoulda called Pizza Boy's attack, "Pizza Cutter," lol.
1:54:12
Fellow The Legend of Dragoon chad, I take it? Judging by those example video game attack names.
as someone who played outlaw as a kid. im happy to see them in the top 5
Great video as usual. I'm late but I had to show up for my weekly serving of Tactical Bacon
Love the references to Legend of Dragoon
The one we've all been waiting for!
Oh thank god, a video I can finally fall asleep to, thank you bacon
Btw if sweet tooth from Black isn’t at least top 3 I’m coming to your house tonight
TBP, I hate to break it to you, but that "Giant Attack Robot" looks awfully a lot like an ice cream truck...
Each magnet does 10 damage on its own. How do damage do they do individually if ricochet them?
Glad to see club kid so high in the rankings 😊
Hey TBP can you do a video rank of the cars based on their stats like armor special handling design etc
Did you know there's a button combination you can press to make shadow topless in her alt fire in Twisted Metal Black? With the special selected, hold down all four trigger buttons and press triangle triangle triangle.
I'd rather of seen every vehicle ranked but still pretty pumped about this one
1:19:12 One of my favorite youtubers just referenced my favorite thing on youtube. Stay crispy, TB🖤🖤
Twister was always my favorite because I mean... LOOK AT THAT. And outlaw, to be fair.
Another great comprehensive list!
Absolutely loved the list and your speaking man, does this mean we'll get a vehicle ranking in the future? 👀
The Sweetbot V2 is also one of the fastest vehicles in 2012 during the races.
14:42 Wow I never noticed that blood comes out of Axel when he gets shot with machine guns.
Club Kid's special was my favourite when I was a kid, really good special and always troublesome when you played with a friend.
I laughed when you mentioned Henchmen, it was always a death sentence when you were hit by it. I remember always saving energy to get invencible when Sweet Tooth used his special.
I clicked on this video knowing Henchmen would either be at the bottom or near the bottom. Glad to know I was right.
This was nostalgic, cheers.
i like the new mic my crispy man!
Amazing video
1:09:59 Weapon: Death Warrant, Vehicle: Zoomy Missiles.
...'cause you wanted to know who was paying attention (1:19:39). XD
BTW landing 10 is a pain in the ass! but the best way I've found to do it is to drive backwards while an enemy is pursuing you
The king returns!
That’s actually shocking you don’t think grasshopper special is the worst in the game history ever. She does more damage to herself than to the enemy.
Respect to you, sir.
In the original teaser of Twisted Metal: Black,
the Junkyard Dog was very clearly shown towing another vehicle behind it. This was undoubtedly supposed to be his Special, because when the game came out and the action was never implemented, the Oil Can/ Spike Ball attack was clearly used to replace it. So seeing the Taxi Detonator in future titles shows that they had the idea but it just wasn't ready yet.
