I believe that car has been sitting with the wheels buried to the frame in mud or in a flood. With those brake lines caked into the frame, brakes and drums rusted, and the transmission looked like it had water/ mud in it. And the trunk floor rusted out, it adds up to mud/ flood. I love those older model Fords. They will run the stripes off a zebra. I love watching you work on these old cars because I grew up with my grandfather who was a mechanic and I was like Ralphie. I went under them with him and as a kid I could take a motor apart and put it back like new. I'm 77 years old now and still love it. Of course I can't do the work now but sure enjoy watching you do it.

I have a 1967 Galaxie 500 2 door fastback with a 289, and I did the 390 FE swap. I can tell you that the standard issue I've seen on the water pumps is that the old-timers had overheating issues on those old FE's and that they were constantly filling or fiddling with the radiator or cooling system in general. That's why your fill tank was clogged as well. Typically the more motors you see, you'll see the last two cylinders on the FE's, get more heat saturation. That's why you see a lot of collapsed lifters, bent pushrods, worn valve guides, and sticky valves. Great video.👍

My Dad had a FORD GALAXY 500. It was red with a black vinyl top. He's been gone since 1988. So i can't ask him any questions about it. And those jump start booster packs are a real life saver. Just remember to leave it in the vehicle that you are driving. For that matter get one for every car you drive.

When I was about Ralphie's age the neighbors had a 64 Galaxie the same color as yours parked in the alley outside our back fence. I used to sit in it and pretend I was driving all over the place. One day I got out of it and when I slammed the door shut my thumb was in the door. My thumb put the door in a bind and it wouldn't open up. I had to yell and scream for dad to come and get the door open. It ended up breaking my thumb. What was most embarrassing was I was the piano player at our church and I couldn't play with a broken thumb. Everybody in the church and at school found out what I did and deviled the daylights out of me for the stupid thing I had done. Tell Ralphie to not get his finger in the door because it hurts like heck ! You guys are awesome.

Hey Brother, great discovery with the Posi Rear!! Every time I replaced an FE engine in my 63 & 64 Galaxies, I pulled the valve covers. If they were covered in sludge (which they always were!), an old timer told me to run 3 qts of kerosene, two quarts of oil and a new filter. Let engine come up to temp, shut down and repeat process. Every time I've done this, when I remove the valve covers, the rockers were spotless.
I HATED those expansion tanks!!! For some reason they always blew out the seams. Couldn't figure out why.

Anti-freeze always ends up on the floor. Sometimes you see little bubbles of transmission fluid floating on top. Dad had a 1967 Galaxie 500 with an identical water pump. He put about 60,000 miles on it and never had a problem with the water pump. I just love watching these old Ford engines brought back to life. Out west of town in Wadesville, there is a 1966 Ford pickup truck with a 360 engine in it. It is not the original engine. I wish I had the space to bring it back to life. My '55 Chevy has front disc brakes with 1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass front spindles. It has an old single-stage Chevrolet brake master cylinder and does just fine with the front disc calipers. I have good, solid pedal. A couple of years ago I had to replace the long brake line that goes across the differential. It had rubbed a hole in the brake line. Ralphie should be out there with you while you are packing those bearings. He is such a fortunate young man. All your kids are! I love that car and wish I had one.

@@Sleeperdude I know he is. Wonder what he will eventually want to have to drive when he gets in high school? If I were him, I would fix that Falcon up with a 289 V-8. Kind of like a Nova but Ford power. Of course, by the time he is in high school who knows how expensive gas will be? Nevertheless, I am sure he is picking things up by osmosis to where he will know what to do when he actually starts turning wrenches. I really like the way he is into detailing the cars like when you guys went on that trip.

If all else fails, you can go to a shop that makes hydraulic hoses of all kinds and they most likely can make you some flexible brake lines. Just make sure to bring all the fittings if you cut the line or broke it.
You might have a limited slip posi diff in that thing. I saw just one wheel spin a couple of times at the beginning and switch back and forth before both locked in. What a burnout!
Make sure you have all that water out of the engine and don't take chances. I saw a guy ruin a fresh rebuild leaving straight water in it. He didn't have antifreeze and he used water. Then it froze that night. Love the car and it really sounds pretty good.

Hey Sleeperdude. That engine looks like a 66 or later 390 ci. My dad had a 66 Galaxie with a 390 ci and your engine looks identical to what I remember of his. The 390 was Fords go to performance motor for several years until the 406 in the 63 Galaxie came out to compete with the 409 Chevrolet in NASCAR races. Then of course the 427, 428, 429 Fords. I think Steve McQueens 67 Mustang in the movie Bullit had a 390 ci with a Tripower set up. That 390 was a good strong motor. Sounds good. 👌🏻

I like the music you use when you work on the cars. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching fix-it shows on early Cable channels. Really upbeat sounds. lol
Keep up the good work. You and your son Ralphie make a good team. You work, He advices. One day he'll make a great coach.

I have loved those old Galaxies ever since I was a kid and watched Sheriff Andy Griffith driving one in Mayberry. My Dad had a similar car ( a 1966 Ford LTD with a 352) but it didn't look as nice as the 64 Galaxie!

Such a good lookin car. Between u and derek from VGG, yall make me wanna ressurect old cars. Down fall is no place to do it.
My uncle gave me a 87 f250 4x4, he bought it new. It sat for 15 yrs because the fuel pump went out. I replaced it n it ran good. Started drivin it n it gets better every day. The only brake parts ive had issues with is where the pass side hardline goes thru the frame, it just rotted in half. Otherwise, the brakes work perfect. Got lucky with the soft lines

When you see the Rube Goldberg contraption look of those drum brakes it's a miracle they ever work. I started doing my own drums when I was 16 and I don't think they changed at all in 60 years. (I'm not 76, but I've seen the ancient drum brakes, pretty much the same.)

I remember being taught to do drum brakes after trying to avoid them altogether. My instructor put me on a car with 4-wheel drums, told me to do one side at a time and start with the front. By the time it was over, I was old hat! 👍
