Beloved Cleveland Clinic employee with Down Syndrome inspires with gold medal at Special Olympics

- If you happen to be in the food court at Cleveland Clinics Crile Emporium, you'll most certainly notice 28-year-old Annie Murray, laser-focused on her cleaning tasks.
"Annie is one of probably our most reliable, hardworking employees that we have," said Annie's supervisor, Jacey Anderson, director of dining services for Morrison Healthcare at Cleveland Clinic.
She's also the sunshine in every room.
"She always in a good mood. I've never seen Annie to not be in a good mood. So she's bringing an energy to us," said Annie's supervisor, Faith Gill, general manager of dining services at Cleveland Clinic's Crile Emporium.
So, it should come as no surprise, that Annie's energy and dedication has propelled her into a successful figure skating career.
"I feel proud of myself," Annie shared.

for many olympic athletes, the sport is their job...this woman has a regular job AND trains for her sport
Congrats to Annie. She's a winner with or without a medal because she' shows up everyday to her job, her employer can depend upon her, and does her job to the best of her ability. That's what being a "winner" is all about.
Agreed! The figure skating medals are cool but showing up to work with a good attitude and being dependable is already winning! Especially these days , less people with a good work ethic than 15 or so years ago.

I have seen many a parent wrap their child up in cotton wool because of their Down syndrome rather than encouraging them, these children grow up so isolated they shut down and stop speaking and interacting at a very young age only to pass away early in their life. Those who are allowed to work and play and follow their dreams live longer and happier lives for it. May Annie have a long life following her dreams.

Annie is great! But truth is, not all people with Down's syndrom are able to do these sort of things. There are differences between all the people who have Downs. Some can go to a regular school for instance, but most not.
But I applaud the parents and brothers for giving her an as normal life as is possible, including her in everything and probaby challenging her to do everything she is capable of.
My mother was a volunteer at an adult training workshop for those with Down Syndrome. They would hold open houses and I credit those years for helping to instill in me a strong work ethic, a sense of community and being able to find joy and accomplishment in whatever makes you happy. Continue being an inspiration, Annie!
There was a time when having a baby with Down’s syndrome would be so sad and devastating but thank god’s within time we’ve turned that around to see that people with Down’s syndrome are very capable people and they truly inspire me!!!❤
