Priests have had affairs with men and women, both are wrong but chastity has to be the goal. Today priests, parish priests are very busy but some say lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd and with paperwork up to your ears. I wonder how well the seminary prepares you for that. I knew an older priest, 60 maybe who sent out emails and notes to fellow priests to have lunch, use a day off from mass etc and out of over 20, got maybe 2 returns. Busy, not interested, IDK. You need friendships. The dinner over a parishioners house is not the same as a confidante, a person to go on a hike with or lunch.

Actually, in a strict sense, we are adopted. By Baptism, we become the adopted sons and daughters of God. There are numerous Scripture passages to support this.
Sometimes people use the term "children" loosely. In that sense we can say that everyone is a child of God, because of being His creature. It doesn't mean to be in right relationship with God.

Jesus did say that some make themselves eunuchs for the Kingdom of God. He is not speaking literally. I believe this refers to someone making the decision to be celibate and chaste in order to devote himself entirely to the service of God's Kingdom. This requires a tremendous amount of Grace. I don't recall hearing much mention of Grace in this discussion. The power of God's Grace is unfathomable. Prayer, fasting, and the Sacraments -- sources of Grace. A real desire for holiness.
The priesthood is the highest calling on earth, in my opinion. When I watch the priest recess out of church after Mass, I get a feeling in my heart, a welling up of gratitude and awe. That man brought me Jesus. Nobody on earth but a Roman Catholic priest can say the words of Consecration and bring Jesus down from heaven. This might not be theologically well expressed, but it's how I see it. I'm a convert from Judaism and so grateful to be Catholic. I would say that almost every priest I've met in over 30 years of Daily Mass has been holy, devout, self-sacrificing, and kind-hearted. The priesthood is a daily martyrdom. I don't know where all these terrible priests are that you're talking about; I haven't met them. Pray for our priests, make sacrifices, pray for vocations. Without our priests, we are lost.

Every priest deserves respect because of their office and bc they are all made in the image of God but as a 31 year old that tries to be very involved in my local parishes I have, in my opinion, met not so great priests.
Priests are men and like all of us men they are not all perfect. We had a Hispanic priest who by his mannerisms we could see he was maybe one of these priests being talked about in the video and he did end up falling into some kind of scandal and was removed from the parish. Nice priest and I’m sure he is very devout but like we all do, he fell to his sin. Fortunately it was not with a minor but with an adult.

    • @theyliveyousleep8965
      @theyliveyousleep8965 2 місяці тому

@@in_defense_of_the_church homosexuality is 💯 contrary to the very foundation of the Catholic Faith. Doesn’t matter if the priest is nice and well-meaning. Entering the priesthood and nunnery requires an oath of poverty, chastity and obedience. Any kind of mortal sin is contrary to these oaths. Being a gambler or thief = lack of poverty. Being a porn actor, porn addict or homosexual = lack of chastity. Ignoring the oaths to live however they want = lack of obedience. A devout person is above worldly affairs & personal desires…and puts God first in their life. So a devout priest would not fall to sexual scandal. This is much more dire than venial sins or simple human slip ups. It’s a choice.

Ryan and Ryan, I really appreciate the channel and your work. You guys are doing great things for Christ and his Church. I will say that I was hoping that a distinction was made in this video between gay-identified men seeking the priesthood and men seeking the priesthood who, though bearing the burden of same-sex attraction, have never identified as gay, nor ever acted out, nor promoted the lifestyle or any changes to Church teaching. I happen to be a man in the latter category. Yes it's a struggle, but it is not impossible and there are many groups out there that help integrate people who struggle. For me, Desert Stream helped me tremendously. I just wanted to bring to your guys' attention that there are men earnestly seeking the priesthood and striving to live authentically masculine lives while having all different kinds of struggles. Again, thanks for your work and keep it up. Prayers for you guys.

I support The Pope with his comments. I believe we all know in our hearts that Pope Francis did not mean to come across in a negative manner. He has said multiple times all are welcome to Mother Church. We are all sinners, we all have our cross or crosses to bear.
I agree with both Popes regarding Holy Orders for the priesthood/seminary. Their hearts are with the sinner and eyes focused on God and His gift of redemption for us, a place to worship and receive Him in the Holy Eucharist. His church needs to be focused on Christ, love. Christ’s Priest need to be men of the cloth without any hidden sin’s that could be potentially danger to the Priest, Mother Church(the laity).
It took courage for Pope Francis to address this issue with Bishops he knows will push back. God bless him and keep him safe.

I listened to priests, older who talked of how many were pushed in for various reasons. Maybe less judgement from others will keep curbing that from happening. I think now, if anyone loves the Lord, feels called and will stay chaste, who they feel desire for shouldn't matter. Pedophiles aren't gay or straight, they just are. I appreciated the insight that the tendencies, whatever they are, that are especially acted upon in privacy whether it be of a sexual nature, alcohol it might even be with a love of money, are things that need to be addressed as something that might indicate a signal that a person is not meant for the priesthood especially given the solitary nature of the priesthood. It is in Northwest DC next to the Georgetown University Campus. I was walking by a Catholic Church that is right near there. There was a BUNCH of people at this Catholic Church and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing (warm day, the doors/windows were open so I could hear outside). It was basically affirming homosexuality. If I am not mistaken it may have been Fr. James Martin, SJ - the outspoken promoter of homosexuality in the Catholic Church. He is also a Jesuit (SJ) and Geaorgetown is a Jesuit University… so go figure. Yes this exists. The HORROR of it - pray to God that the clergy teach, preach and follow the dogmas, moral doctrine, sacraments, theology and traditions of the Church properly and replace those that don’t.

Glory, Honor, blessings, thanks and praise to the Lord my God,
for healing my heart during a heart attack!
    On March 26th 2022,
    just past midnight,
    I was restless in bed,
my limbs became numb & tingly,
    my chest became tight,
& my heart felt like it was being crushed.
So I sang out to God and Jesus,
    about my pain, my feelings,
    my faults and my inabilities.

As I sang, I began to feel like a river,
& a hand was on my back,
it's fingers where skimming the surface of the waters,
    separating the waters,
    causing ripples through my body.
Then the hand reached inside my chest,
    lit my heart on fire,
& the heat moved like waves through my body.
    When I was done singing,
    all the pain was gone,
& I looked at the clock,
    it was past 1am,
I had sang near an hour.

Then the voice of my guardian angel called my name from above,
& there was a hymn of energy in the air,
the same hymn I hear in my dreams of God.
Hallelujah to the Lord my God for healing my heart!
Hallelujah for His son Jesus for saving my soul!
    Hallelujah for every day!
    Hallelujah for every breath!
The Lord is Faithful and true!
May the Lord Bless your hearts,
so that you have the will and strength to turn from selfish sins,
and flee from the slaveries of the flesh!

I just came across this episode just now - watched it - and I have read up on the latest statement coming from His Holiness in recent days.....
AS a person who, 'once upon a time'.... has spent a short time in seminary in early years of formation - and who also left seminary voluntarily, so not to live a 'double edged sword' - soto speak - and since as an openly gay man - IF I had chosen to stay in seminary and pursue discernment of a ordained vocation - I would have whole heartly kept my promises of chasity and celibacy - that I had no issue with at all - but when I was told I would have to denounce my 'person' and ideals....well I couldn;t and that is what led me to leave seminary - if a man is faithful to promises of chasity and celibacy both thru years of formation and in their priesthood - who cares what sexual orientation their inner core is..... that is my stance which I stick to - thanks

But a persons sexuality is not WHO they are. Sex is an action, a choice, a behavior. Even if a person has sex every day…sex is only 0.2% of what they do. Yet people have been programmed to completely identify with taking their pants off. It doesn’t matter how many times the TV tries to tell people they were “born this way”…it’s just objectively not true. (Dozens of studies have proven this). And, there are countless testimonies of men and women who chose God, left their worldly desires and became as God created them to be.

I was wondering if anyone was ever going to address the “good old boys club”. I struggle with your description that if you have deep-seated homosexual tendencies, you shouldn’t be a priest. I think that the term grooming at the seminary level is very appropriate and very against the teachings of becoming a priest.. I think that the thought of as long as you keep it in check, it’s all fine. Shouldn’t Be allowed either.
I have personal experience in a parish where the pastor was arrested for trying to meet up with a young boy that was really an undercover agent … they found that he had been living a life on the back of the Catholic Church…. I’ve known two bishops in my diocese that had been whispered about as being homosexual…
I see nothing wrong with Pope Francis telling those that are grooming the young man that wants to become priest to stop this behavior and focus on Christ and your vocation and you’re calling…. Otherwise they should not be in those positions.

PF didn't just say "who am I to judge?" In context, the full quote is Jul 29, 2013 ... "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?" His statement was a conditional one, not an unconditional one. This is altogether an independent thing from the statement he made to the bishops last week.

I only suffer with the topic at hand in times of extreme loneliness. I say God has put me in a very interesting and lonely place this last year. I have gone back and sinned in that way only because of my mental state. If God would give me people, it wouldn’t happen anymore.

Francis perhaps used too crude a word, but he spoke the truth, and a truth that needed to be spoken out loud. The priesthood is NOT a closet for those struggling with homosexual tendencies. It is the place where the Lord prepares servants for pastoral work for the protection and guidance of his sheep.

We are basically being told that we cannot have a normal, loving home. Not in a marriage, not in the rectory, not in the convent, not in the monastery, not in the seminary. I believe the Pope is sincere when he says we are welcome in the Church but he's turning a blind eye to the real human needs. Nice way to get rid of people who are unwanted.

Why do you see differently the Priest from other vocation like Nursing - lots of male nurses and 50% or more are homosexuals. but you do not care, you placed their vocation in a pedestal, not allowing them a margin for error?
the people can be unforgiving, and wanted to terminate him quickly. Did you see him in the frontier of war like other religious leaders? Why people can be unforgiving to the Catholic Church?
let's define Vocation from your Google - strong feeling of suitability for a particular career or occupation.
They are just doing their choice of occupation.
Do not practice discriminate view against every Faith- if you passed nasty comments about other- you may get unsatisfactory threats from all members but not with Catholics. Be kind if not generous in your views about this strongest religion on Earth, I am one of it's member. God bless!

I think, it doesnt matter if we are gay or straight; what matters is "are we following Christ with all our hearts?" What the Pope meant, was that he's fed up with gay "activity" in priests. And in reality, it not about gay activity. It is about sin!

If Italian is not the Pope's first language, where did he pick this word? From the people around him in high positions in the church in Italy, among them the ones who snickered at his use of the word.
Let us always pray for the deacons, priests, bishops, archbishops, cardinals and the pope, not only during mass, but on our own. One can find lots of prayers for them online. They need our prayers.
