    SO, had mine for 3 days. I absolutely love it.
    Only downside is no 3rd fader, So moving up to 3 deck mixing is impossible with this unit.
    Which does scare me a little. But the not needing a laptop thing is what sold it to me.

    When Dj Ravine says he wants to have better, bigger screens for the cdjs...
    Then, the CDJ Tour-1 was created.

      Would you recommend getting this over getting 2 xdj 700s (or 1000s) and a DJM 350?
      Getting "open box" xdj 700s and and an "open box" djm 350 costs about the same as the xdj rx.

    Very nice review!
    But i wonder, could you maybe also do a review of cheap controllers? Like the Hercules Air or Instinct?
    I really want to start djing, but dont have a very big buged. What would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance!

    Info for people who are looking into buying this and are coming from controller + Laptop software setups.
    I recently bought this and basically have all the same reactions as they do. However, an ex Ministry of Sound DJ from Singapore pointed out to me that when the two zoomable waveforms are moving and the songs are in sync, visually, the beat grids from each song ONLY align at the white centred beat indicator. So the thing about this is, if you're transitioning from software like Traktor/Serato, which has a phase meter, at a quick glance you'll think you're out of sync even though you're golden!
    While this is a tiny tiny issue, it may confuse some starting DJs who have upgraded from those softwares. Luckily, this is only a software issue and Josh - the ex Ministry of Sound DJ - has notified Pioneer already. So just wait for an update.
    Anyways, get this standalone unit if you have the cash and are looking for club standard layouts to practice on! Its honestly fucking amazing after coming from an S2MKII

      Ok. 10 months have passed - did Pioneer rectify this, quite serious, problem please?

      Thanks

      Also, I have found in the review posted on djtechtools.com posted on Aug 19 2015 the following drawback that they list:
      Beatmatching: Lining up tracks on the RX is different from all Pioneer gear - it’s way more “elastic” feeling. My experience was that unless you had Sync enabled, using the waveforms to mix was difficult as two beatmatched tracks only seemed lined up at the playhead - not ahead or behind it. As always, trust your ears before anything else - but this still felt weird.
      +George Speirs , are they referring to the same issue as the one you mentioned please?
      Thanks

      George, I got a notification email (with the text of the actual reply) that you have replied but....I can't see the actual comment here (no yt) - strange isn't it?
      It is great to hear that this 'issue' has actually helped you to develop your skills. Maybe Pioneer has done this intentionally (and that would be the reason why they are not rectifying this issue in subsequent firmware updates) ?
      Listen, have you tried to connect SL1200s to xdi-rx and listen (and mix) to analog vinyl recordings thru it's standalone mixer at all? How is the sound quality then?
      I am thinking about getting this unit but it's Pioneer so it has digital architecture mixer - I'm afraid this may harm the sound quality fed from SL1200s+realy vinyl (and also Rekordbox is getting DVS support soon I just found out that xdj-rx will not supply DVS which is a real bummer).
      I am considering getting xdj-rx but it's digital (standalone) mixer (and now lack of DVS support in the future) is kind of making me think twice (I do want to have the ability to have pure analog setup to get fully analog sound). I am considering getting xdjrx or going modular with fully analog mixer like Allen Heath 43C (or 42/92 - older ones) with SL1200s and a xone:k1 controller - initially seems great but I will lose the ability to 'learn' and use rekordbox system so then when showing up at the club may be stressful as getting used to club setup (cdj/djm with mostly rekordbox on board).
      really dunno what to do.
      I was also thinking of getting Reloops rmx80 instead of xone43C/42/92 as it is extremely well priced in poland where i live ($500 usd) as it is very similar (looks like a clone) of Pioneer's djm mixers (and I love how Pioneer looks and feels. I know that everybody says that AH sound amazing, particularly analog ones, but I just don't have so much love for AH in terms of visuals, perceived quality, layout etc....they look a bit like toys in my eyes :( ). Now, with Reloop based setup - I would lose the 'analog mixer sound benefit' of AH but it just looks like Pioneer at 25% of the price (it doesn't have the sound card built it so would have to buy something like SL2 or Denon's new DS1 which would bring the price up to a AH xone43C level basically. But on the other hand...if I went to a club and they had Pioneer's setup not rekordbox enables (older ones) then I could always take my sound card with me to to connect and use with laptop. If I go with AH 43C the sound card is already built in so I cannot 'take it out and take with me to the club) - omg, it is so confusing and hard........
      what do you think?

      Strange how my reply didn't appear on YT (I can see it up there ^). But yes, considering the XDJRX is a middle to upper standalone setup, I think Pioneer doesn't consider the phase meter to be much of an issue (and like you said, maybe they're just forcing user to get better and be better at listening - not going to complain about that!).
      No, it does sound like you're in a bit of a muddle about what your setup should be and I'm actually not too familiar with what combinations do work the best but it sounds like you are gathering equipment primarily for a home studio. If this is the case, I still recommend getting the XDJRX as it really does prepare you for a typical club setup (like you said, usually they are using CDJ2000nx & DJM900nx Rokordbox enabled). The workflow you'll be practicing at home will be 98% the same as the workflow on the club systems. If you are thinking of expanding the setup to include the SL1200s, I think the XDJRX will do just fine since the actual perceived audio quality of analog and digital these days is so similar plus, Pioneer architecture isn't really a let down. It would be the cheaper setup and I really doubt you'll notice any sound quality difference, especially for a home setup. Yes, zero plans for DVS is a bummer. I haven't actually tried a DVS setup before so I can't comment on the matter.
      So my final suggestion would be - SL1200 (Phono left) + XDJRX + SL1200 (Phono right) and you've got a nice (semi cheaper option) analog + digital home setup. In the end, what matters most would probably be how well you mix, what songs you choose, how well you react to the audience and how much fun you have. Sounds lame but that's just how I feel about DJing generally. So that's my input, no need to take my advice, just do what you think is sensible i guess... unless you're filthy rich, in that case buy everything!! Haha

    • @arkadiuszmikina4563
      @arkadiuszmikina4563 8 років тому

      +George Speirs Hey dude :D
      Yeah it is strange - I can see your very latest one! But not the previous one.
      The more I think about it the more I am convinced Pioneer is keeping the phase meter this way intentionally. Why? Because their club setup has....two separate screens (on 2 separate CDJs) so when one practices at home on xdjrx and then goes to club and plays on club setup it may be harder to mix without being able to 'mix visually with waveforms like at home on xdjrx'. And I guess xdjrx's intention is to prepare people to use rekordbox'ed CDJs in the clubs.
      I am getting equipment for home studio (and odd gig in a small pub - real beginnings!).
      Yeah, I have nearly decided xdjrx (instead of going modular). It occurred to me that, although Pioneer stated xdjrx will never be 'rekordbox dvs' (when it does arrive to rekordbox generally) enabled, I can always purchase a SL2 interface (or denon's cheaper now DS1) and hook it up to phono. It will cost extra $300 but this setup will cover so many bases that it is unbelievable: fully digital rekordbox (standalone with usb), fully digital rekordbox with laptop, fully digital SeratoDJ with laptop via interface, DVS via interface (so analog feel while using digital files via laptop) and fully analog way i.e. vinyl records (using 'Thru' mode with the interface-no need of switching cables when using real vinyl or when using 'fake' timecode in DVS mode). Absolutely amazing home setup imho - getting to learn rekordbox (so getting prepared to club setup), still keeping in touch with the most popular (for now at least - let's see how rekordbox progresses in the market) DJ software i.e. SeratoDJ, ability to use DVS and ability to play real vinyl/analog records. AND (!) when the interface/soundcard is external, one must not forget, I can take it with me (and a laptop) to a gig in a club - what if I learn rekordbox only on xdjrx and I show up at the club and the club setup is there but it's not rekorbox enabled? Boom, take the sound card out, hook up and use SeratoDJ with laptop no worries.
      The only thing now that is stopping me from ordering this setup is.....the bigger (4 channels) brother to the xdjrx being announced/introduced....It would be a pain if I bought $1500 controller and then I find out there is a better one soon coming out for $700-800 more - I am like that hehe.
      Thanks for reassurance that vinyl records will sound similar while being processed by a digital (standalone) mixer inside the xdjrx.
      How you feel about DJing doesn't sound lame at all!!! It sounds 10000% right! I couldn't agree more dude. It is all about choosing songs and mixing them right while having fun and interacting with the crowd.
      Even if I was filthy rich, one has to remember that: you can't buy everything haha ;)
      thanks for great input

    Things missing in the XDJ-RX apart from the things you mentioned (rubber and RGB pads and full sized jog wheels akin DDJ-SZ ) are:
    -4 channels mixer
    -screen should be touchscreen with qwerty keyboard for incremental search (or maybe even 2 separate touchscreens for each of the side?)
    -GUI should be exactly the same as on CDJ/XDJ (for 100% cross-compatibility to club setup)
    -VU meters should be exactly the same as on DJM900 (in quantity-15 and quality-same appearance and not 'crossed in half') and for each channel
    -separate VU meter for master
    -Serato and Traktor compatibility - I don't think XDJ-RX is compatible with them as it stands now right?
    -DVS compatibility
    -split cues for headphones and not just a blend
    -WiFi connectivity out of the box for loading up files via rekordbox to the unit wirelessly
    -DAC should be of higher quality (exactly the same like on the DJM900nxs2) for highest quality sound (remember that it is a digital mixer inside so it has to rival sound quality with analog mixers who are the best that!)
    -Needle strip like on ddj-sz
    -central LCDs on jog wheels of better quality - just the same as on ddj-sz
    -there seems to be an issue with beat matching on xdi-rx - e.g. djtechtools.com review mentions that lining up two tracks using waveforms is difficult unless you have sync on (this may be a really important issue and obstacle in buying this unit)
    Then call it XDJ-RZ, charge $2200-$2400 (where XDJ-RX costs $1499) and.....rule the world 'outside the DJ booth too' (since they rule the world inside the DJ booth already ;) )
    holla!
    :D

    SX2 and RX is totally different breed, don't expect Serato here, it's design for Recordbox, SX2 can do much more in terms of versatility, but the standalone feature of the RX is the selling point. If 1.5k price worth it?..Yes it is...good built, simple mobile solution and better layout (not too cramp). Its time to decide where ecosystem you want to focus...Recordbox or Serato.:)

    I'm a 20 year veteran vinyl DJ. I haven't played out in years due to having a few kids over the last 5 years. I've been watching your vids over the last couple years while trying to decide what type of controller to go for. I'm not a 'computer guy' at all so this laptop-less option speaks to me. I'm nervous though. You guys said this is perfect for beginners and noobs. What do you mean by that? Is this something you instantly outgrow, like the wego, or does it have enough features grow into?

    Ravine/Cotts, I could use your input here since you've used the RX.
    On a 4-channel controller, adding CDJs makes sense, because there are still channels left to be controlled with the controller hardware. How I understand it, if I were to connect CDJs to the RX, most of the RX hardware would become pointless, since track control would be taking place on the CDJs. This feels wasteful to me. Am I understanding it correctly?

      yeah, pioneer make controllers for twats with a million safety features so they don`t have to make mixes in ableton
      normal jog wheels have a sensor on the spindal pin, pioneer has some gel like touch screen monitors, so you probably can`t press them down using the sides to enable vinyl mode
      next step in controllers for twats, is make a native instruments clone with no jog wheels

      I am not Ravine but I am Asian too. I say DDJ-SX2 with a powerful macbook pro.

      XDJ - RX or DDJ - SX2 :s

    • @arniegv
      @arniegv 9 років тому +2

      Adam Vuong decide first if want to use recordbox or serato, then it will be easier for you to decide bet RX and SX2.

    • @DjFusion86
      @DjFusion86 9 років тому

      Adam Vuong Depend if you're ok with using a laptop the SX2 is a good choice but I personally prefer playing with hardware only so my next unit will be the RX but it comes down to personal choice. If you don't think you will use the 2 additional decks of the SX2 I would say go for the RX. IMO hardware is most time better then software. Another good thing is that with the RX you can practice at home and just bring you USB sticks to the club

    • @LukT95
      @LukT95 9 років тому +1

      Adam Vuong I chose the DDJ-SX2, because of the 8 performance pads:
      - 8 Hot-Cues
      - Roll from 16 - 1/16 without pressing shift
      - Slicer
      - Sampler
      That's awesome!
      An argument for the XDJ-RX are the Sound Color Effects, that's a nice feature! But to be honest..... TWO decks? Really? What if you like to work with Turntables? Do you need to switch off both channels??? If so, IMO the RX is useless! It is ways to expensive for what it is capable of.
      I don't mind using a Macbook, actually it's good for me to have a large screen, the mapping for Serato is perfect, every function has a button on the controller.
      I've seen a lot DJs in clubs using CDJs with Serato!

    XDJ-RX or DDJ-RZ or DDJ-RZ ? I am not too bothered about the FX on the RZ/RS as I can use my launchpad for triggering stuff like that but is it worth having the XDJ-RX standalone player abilities or just go with a RS/RZ ? if so its a choice of software Serato VS Rekordbox. I am way to spoiled for choice :(

    • @tkbone3095
      @tkbone3095 8 років тому

      If you got a decent laptop, go for the RZ....If not, and want the standalone option, XDJ-RX is one way to go

    I've been DJing with Live Intro (it's pitifully bad) and was thinking about buying the RX since I got a new job. I'm bit hesitant though because there are cheaper options that fit my needs, but Sweetwater put this on their monthly payment list. Any suggestions anyone?
