the tent backpack would be sweet to still have, i own a couple of those bags from my time in the military. and the food cans really had me cracking up
Do players know that DayZ used to have 100+ unique books in it? Real life books that you could actually read in-game. All classics, from Jules Verne to Tolstoy and Dumas. There used to be a server long ago, called "Gents of Novo" where the city of Novodmitrovsk was the only safe zone. At nights, players would gather around a bonfire on the main square listening to a person who'd read a different book every night. Good times....
I've no idea why BI decided to remove these books. They were all classics, so their rights are public domain anyway.

Capturing rain water in multiple methods absolutely needs to be re added to the game!
example tarp + 4 sticks = rainwater collection tub kit, deploy kit add a rock then it will make a pool of water when it rains that will be clean drinkable.

I think they removed it due to adding allot of rivers around the north where it didn't used to be. I liked this, because you had to prepare before going to nw no water around and only tac bacon around. Sad to se so many small but very important game changes go away
I take it the only current way to collect rain water is by having a barrel open? (you still have to purify it though)
Great ideal but I want the funktion back where you could capture rain water while it's raining like how you used to be able to do, maybe it was back in patch 0.46 - 0.40
A similar thing you can do IRL is take a large, clear plastic bag, and put the end of a leafy tree branch in it (still attached to the tree). Cinch down the opening with some cordage, and let it sit in the sun. The tree will "sweat" water, which then condenses in the bag.
Beware, though, if you do this too much, you will kill that limb, and possibly the entire tree if you do it to multiple limbs. Better to switch up trees and limbs, giving them time to recover.
On my server, I bury sea chests for players to find, which are full of what I call "The Holy War Starter Pack."
In the chest is a Templar helmet, long sword, Holy Bible, a bunch of crackers (think communion wafers), and LOTS of Mad Monk Kvass (wine substitute).
Let's also not forget the police nightstick is working, there used to be a medieval mace, chainsaw (sadly isn't working, but can be filled with gas), improvised bow and arrows (I REALLY want these back in the game), a city bus, multiple versions of the truck, and oh, so much more. I used to have a lot of fun whacking people with the electric cattle prod, lol!
Having played Dayz since its 1st week of early access I knew most of these and don't understand why many things have been taken out. I loved capturing rain water with a canteen because it always rains.
It would take 5 hours to fill a bottle like that in real life, depending on the rain... You can poor water from one bottle into another, which is nice 👍

im such an old head that it was less of a surprise in finding out these things exist and more of a surprise in learning that they were changed/no longer spawning

It's actually so cool relearning all the removed items and things that used to happen that I barely understood at the time

We need to bring some of the books back to add more life to non-combative aspects of the game! It would be so awesome to find a book in a town and bring it to a secluded campaign spot, and just read. Would really help with the immersion. Also, if there is any performance issue, it could be exclusive to the newer consoles and PC.
I thought I was going crazy with the water from rainfall thing, like I was sure i'd remembered doing that early on as it was the only safe water source, then when we had played again found out you couldnt do it and made us question ourselves

I really wish they would add back the improvised bow. I remember my first kill with it at Petrovka from 30 meters away, defiantly my proudest DayZ moment other than building my first base there. Anyone remember those apartments in that city where the only place to find tents?
I remember UA-cam guides about efficiency maximizing strategies to find those, like standing on the roof of opposite side apartments and scanning around with player zoom at certain locations & how the green tents look/what you have to look out for! 😅

I never knew about 5:05 but that's based off a real landmark in Dorset, UK called the Cerne Abbas Giant. Pretty cool to see it included

Here's one that not alot of people risk to find out. In addition to pavlovo having an air pocket did you know that rift also has one similar to it. It's on top of the main bridge of the ship in the southern half of the ship. You'll see how it pokes out. Pretty sure you need have to climb a ladder to get to it though but the view is beautiful. Freaked my buddy out with it one day when he saw me without my mask. I thought it was common knowledge.
At night on Livonia atleast, I've noticed a certain kind of radio tower has a red light at the top. Implying it has power? You can only see it really on a super dark server at night.
Just started playing livonia, I'll have to keep an eye out!

Don't know if this is still in the game but there was a zombie that carries a kitchen knife and a piece of uncooked human flesh in his inventory. The zombie had the orange boonie and orang and white striped t-shirt.

All the card board boxes used to have the country of Taiwan printed on them but Bohemia bowed to pressure from the Chicoms to remove it.
The 5.45 box ammo is named fox after wolf ammo also Russian also 5.45. I used it when I owned an ak74

Im sure you still get berries and rose hips although rare AF. About 2 to 3 patches ago i found rose hips around tisy, cant remember exactly where. (Yes vanilla server not modded)

I have actually found the berries spawning on the map before! Twice actually! Once just north of Severograd and once again on Skalisty! Both on official!

The irl version was designed for the M4 but could be attached to any weapon with a similar rail underneath, at least in theory

If youre getting chased by wolves go under/against a pine tree 🌲. The branches with block/stall the wolves. Everytime I use this trick i never get hit, and surrounded by 5 wolves.
I've had elderberries spawn from a bush i cut down. I assume they're extremely rare. They didn't have the $UNT$ tag either.
they dont anymore on official servers, they used to a while back but got removed since no one really used.

firefighter clothing or hunter clothing is the best as they provide good insulation and very good absorption meaning they will barely get wet.

It’s a shame; useless crap like drinking or smoking just for fun in survival games, maybe giving a little screen effect or something, is just always something i really liked. It’s just awesome for immersion or lore building. Sitting there after a tough fight or on a camp fire, smoking a cig, pondering about the world. Isn’t that (the deceleration, the quiet before the storm) the sort of thing that makes dayZ so amazing?

I wish I didn’t let my storage with the Witch hood despawn. It never got wet which was cool. Think it was available the first few days of 1.17. Had them in red and black, idk about other colors.

I miss not being able to catch water in a bottle, same with the old apple trees too
It is silly, though. A torrential downpour is like 2"+ of water in 24 hours. The neck of the bottle would cut this down by 75% easily. So for a whole cycle of constant rain you could expect maybe a half inch of water. One sip.
I'm all for buildable rain catches using a tarp and some sticks, but catching water in a bottle alone is cartoonish.
The old apple trees were pretty silly too. You were able to get infinite apples out of them.
