Wow I'm new to polymer clay and I've wanted to do a cane but being new it seemed complicated but watching you had given me the confidence to do one and I absolutely love roses so thank you so so much
This is just the best rose cane tutorial available. So many videos are labeled as "tutorial", but are truly more "show and tell". Not this one. I have watched this so many times and it's at the top of my saved videos...thank you so much for the lesson. You make it look so easy 😊 The end result is so lovely ❤
Isn't it great when Saturday night TV is rubbish and I spend the night watching wonderful You Tube tutorials in stead :). Beautiful cane Fiona, I've watched lots of these rose cane tutorials but not tried it yet. One day LOL.
Amazingly done! The rate of speed was perfect, and though you went so very quickly you thoroughly covered every detail with clarity. Thank you for the confidence you instill in others!😁
Brilliant tutorial Fiona!!!! I am going to call you the female version of Whispering Bob Harris of The Old Grey Whistle Test, lol. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial.
Thank you for not making this members only... I have watched this before and then started watching Susan on Turtle soup but idk now she only has members only so pfft. :) But again I am so glad your group is still up and running! I love Fiona!
As John Watson would say to Sherlock Holmes, "That was amazing. Absolutely brilliant." :) Thank you so much! I will make this as soon as possible. Your clear and concise instructions give me confidence that I most definitely can!
I’m glad I found this, for the tutorial but also I thought something was wrong with my pasta machine but it’s nice to know it’s not just mine that’s slightly off
Great tutorial! Thanks for posting - been admiring many of the various beautiful rose canes people have posted but had no idea how to make one. Definitely going to try this!
I am a true beginner and really truly appreciate this video! 😁 I realize you uploaded this video several years ago, but you do not need to go fast. Hopefully everyone knows how to go to the upper right and click on those 3 vertical dots. That will then pull up several options, one of which is speed playback. It's easier to speed someone up rather than slow them down if they're speaking too fast. So perhaps for us rookies you can slow down. I almost feel your heart beating quickly as you were so worried we'd be bored. I for one appreciated ALL your tips and will continue to watch things I am grateful to learn from you!😊
Fiona this is a fabulous tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing. I would like to do this with yellow for my Sister. Her favourite rose! ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is the best one I have seen so far. Very concise and you get to it a heck of a lot faster. Some tuts do not cut the logs first and squeeze the diamonds the whole length then cut. By cutting them first it is harder to skew the squeeze as you go down, which can be a pain. Great Tut! I will subscribe!
Thank you so much, Fiona! I’m just getting into polymer clay and have watched so many videos. This one is definitely my favourite. Cannot wait to try it. Fingers crossed!
very very nice thank you Fiona I did follow tutorial as I went along and I have made a beautiful Rose. Thank you very much. I will pop a link to a video once I get it made I’ve just done the cane.
No matter what skinner blend you use for the plugs, you end up with a great result so long as there is a darker and lighter side. I recommend using a skinner blend for your wrap around the plug, so that you can progress from a lighter border on the inside to darker on the outside or vice versa.
yes you are right, and there are so many more improvements that can be made too, this was just a simple demo, nice and quick to show a basic rose cane. Thanks so much for your helpful comments :)
One of the best rose tutorials I've seen by far. Only issue I had was that even with my volume up to 100% I still had a hard time hearing you. Don't know if it's a microphone issue or you're just that soft spoken, but results are a beautiful rose!
Thanks for the comment Peggy. We sadly had some sound issues on this video, but I have done the rose cane again, and this time you can definitely hear me. 😊 If the lack of sound quality was really annoying for you, and you feel you would like to hear what I was saying, pop over to my free tutorial on making pens and go to 13 minutes, where I re-do the rose cane tutorial. I hope that helps 😊 ua-cam.com/video/zCykR8Knxq4/v-deo.html
I heard you perfectly, I have good speakers I guess. LOL. Love all your videos, your a great teacher. I have been having trouble learning from other polymer videos. So glad I found you. I have watched 4 so far. I will be actually watching this one and doing it with you tomorrow. After I have another run through. :DAlso great accent.
Thank you so much. Thousand thanks. I did everything. As you showed, and I did it. God bless you. Thank you. Thank you.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful! This is the first rose can that I’ve found that really looks like a rose. What did with it once you made it? I’m a newbie and I get lost at this point. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Philip, sadly the tiger cane was really complicated, it took 3 days to put together, and several days to reduce, and is not something you can easily teach. However, I am doing lots of other tutorials on my channel PolyOriginals on UA-cam, and I have some photos of the tiger cane being built on my website blog here : www.fionaabel-smith.co.uk/artists-blog-updates , just scroll down the page a bit. I hope that helps :)
Wow! This is what I call excellent VIDEO TUTORIAL ! Short, great tips and, even with no sound is self explanatory! English is not my first 👅 but, you did fantastic!! I remember my first cane it was a rose more than 10 years ago and it wasn't even close to your cane. Thank you so much for sharing and, please, please, please don't make loooong tutes! I like this length of time but, more than that I can't finish watching it. Definitely you got a new subscriber!!!
Wow! You are a fabulous teacher. Make it seem so easy. Hope to see more tutorials from you. If you would speak a little louder it would be so appreciated. Thank you
Thank you Carol, as you know, we sadly had some sound issues on this video, but I have done the rose cane again, and this time you can definitely hear me. 😊 If the lack of sound quality was really annoying for you, and you feel you would like to hear what I was saying, pop over to my free tutorial on making pens and go to 13 minutes, where I re-do the rose cane tutorial. I’m new to this and yours is the first video I watched. I find it interesting and informative. Question, before the last cut to reveal the flower inside, can I roll it to make the cane longer? Thank you.
Hi Grace, yes, absolutely you can, but you may want to keep some of it larger, and then reduce it at a later stage. Once you reduce it, it is of course difficult to make larger again, but you can reduce it smaller at any time. I have lots of videos on my UA-cam channel which may be of help in reducing canes, and what else you can do with them, and of course the Guild has other videos for you to watch too with lots of ideas. Have fun and experiment :) ua-cam.com/channels/fOtQFNlHAH1n9-D82P1l3w.html
Love this tutorial. I'm just wondering if this cain can be reduced down. I don't think it was mentioned. Im new to polymer clay so still getting my head around it. Thank you
Here's the link to the template used: thepolyparrot.com/great_starts.pdf
I have been looking for a grid like this for Months! Thank you sooo much! Also loved all the tips and information in the entire PDF and video.
Great tutorial but can you please speak up or add subtitles your voice is very soft. No offence.
Actually your voice volume is fine but I do suggest for the microphone to perhaps be closer to your mouth.
Love the colours and values you used! Gorgeous
Grace From Glaur This is a guest spot she's doing for the guild. On her own channel, the sound is mostly fine.
Wow I'm new to polymer clay and I've wanted to do a cane but being new it seemed complicated but watching you had given me the confidence to do one and I absolutely love roses so thank you so so much
You took my breath away when you cut that in half. Stunning.
thanks so much Sandra, glad you enjoyed the video :)
Yeah
Aww Fiona is the best! Thank you for this - now I know what my Friday project is going to be! ❤
The best I've seen. Now I see how to make the outside petals so the flower looks like a rose, not a one dimensional flat thing! Thank you very much.
Thank Elaine :)

Thanks so much Sherri, that makes us so happy to hear :)
I'm a newbie to the poly-clay scene, but this tutorial was informative, easy to follow and concise. Really well done. Thank you.

That was fabulous. Such a beautiful rose.
Thank you Sue :)
Thank you for not making this members only... I have watched this before and then started watching Susan on Turtle soup but idk now she only has members only so pfft. :) But again I am so glad your group is still up and running! I love Fiona!
How beautiful…just beautiful! You can tell you’ve done it several times, as you are able to go so quickly! Thank you!!❤
I really love the trick to flip the slab of clay at every passage in the PM,to avoid distorsions! Very useful! Thanks a lot!
Thanks, Sarah Shriver's tip for that is invaluable :)
It's always wonderful to watch. I have made it and watched it multiple times, but a refresher is always good! Thanks again Fiona 💜😘😊
Wow, that was easy to follow. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you my first Rose cane. You video was very helpful!

Thank you Penny :)

Thanks so very much about the ‘flipping’ the blend to maintain the rectangle. First I have heard of that. Well done, thanks again.

What an informative and well-presented demo, Fiona. I am so excited to try roses soon, now that I have a great "formula." Thanks so much!!
