Fireworks. Bald eagles. Liberty. Freedom. Stars & stripes. Is the American Church the best church?
On this week's episode of Godsplaining, Fr. Patrick and Fr. Gregory discuss Fr.

The way I'd put it is, the American spirit is a frontier spirit. Americans don't share ancestry the way Europeans do; rather, our shared heritage can be found in the experience (either personal or near-familial) of leaving the homeland of one's ancestors behind in active pursuit of something better.
Permanent cultural artifacts make sense in cultures founded on stability; they make little sense in cultures founded on improvement. America has incredible cultural artifacts, but the ones it puts the most effort into are the ones it exposes to the greatest danger and fully intends to surpass as quickly as possible.
With that said, frontier cultures require stable cultures from which they can sally forth and to which they can return. Without such an external source of stability, they're liable to become completely detached from reality and good sense.
Europe used to fill that role for America. But Europe's stability degraded into stagnation when WWII left it convinced that nationalism was the gravest possible cultural sin and that caring too much about one's culture was at least highly suspect.
And that means the US probably needs a solid Church more than anyone, because it has neither internal nor external sources of stability at the moment.

Bonjour Frère Patrick and Frère Gregory,
I just wondered, should Fr Bonaventure decide to stay in Poland (as he has a great devotion to St Faustina). You might need to find another brother to replace him for the retreat in August (for men only).
God bless you and all our Dominican family.

The link provided did not seem to provide any information about the men's retreat in August; is there a secret panel behind which to look?

The idea of the American church being the best Church is quite humorous, given the USCCB is abandoning the Gospels in favor of ideology and rich donors.

And the European Church has remained faithful to the Gospel?

The Church in the United States’ relationship with money and power is no more complicated than that found elsewhere. In fact, I would say that it is plainly more problematic in countries like Germany, where the ecclesial hierarchy supports depriving the sacraments from Catholics who opt out of the state administered church tax, to say nothing of their attempts to legitimize heresy. Similar statements can be made regarding the Church in France, Spain, Italy, Poland, etc.
Suffice it to say, the Church in the United Stated has catechismal and college ministry apostolates and infrastructure far beyond what is seen in Europe, our seminaries are in better shape and more uniformly orthodox in their formation, and the state of the celebration of the liturgy is without rival in the developed world(although there’s still a lot of work to do in regards to all of these topics and others).
