I'm in the theatre where I'm often the only Christian and/or Catholic. It's always such a delicate...dance. (They know I dash out from rehearsal for Mass and is so sweet when another cast member secretly puts a coin in my hand as they ask me to light a candle for them.)

I’m also in theater and we are in a very blessed situation as Catholics in that circumstance
We could convert so many people, or we could succumb to intense social spiritual warfare
My best friend is another Catholic I met through theater and we’re planning a very long term conversion attempt for our friends and fellow actors

As someone who falls into that latter category, I appreciate your words on that. It is also a big help to me who has felt pressure not from God but from the world to air out everything which I feel often does far more harm than good. There is a very small amount of people who know of my particular struggles with some of these things and even fewer who know of my even deeper struggles. And I often feel the world pressures me to feel guilty about not being “out and proud” as it were, but I try not to be. I just want to live life as a Catholic and grow in faith and virtue and became gradually more sanctified and we don’t need to have all our struggles plastered on our forehead in order to address them. Some struggles and crosses are meant to be private and there’s nothing wrong with that so long as we are striving in a Catholic manner and working to grow in virtue and eliminate sin from our lives.

We are all sinners, call it for what it is. We should not be proud of our sins. We should be accepted as sinners and come humbly before God to ask for forgiveness and strength to carry our crosses. We can battle with the temptations without sinning. The problem many have with this movement is that they are proud of their sin and live their lives without thought of eternal consequences. Pride becomes a second sin on the first.

  • @joane24
    @joane24 Рік тому +26

Really something has changed after the pandemic, it got a new impetus. The movement, the politics.
I agree, the case by case isn't enough. I see people often focus on issues in a separated way, as in homosexuality, transgender etc. But it misses the bigger picture.
Namely, the issue of an enormous relaxation of sexual norms and limitations.
Somehow, in the current secular culture, the sexual relations, from being a cultural taboo, something that is to remain veiled and guarded by various regulations (such as permissible only within marriage), became not only 'anything goes,' but also something to be openly and publicly displayed, etc.
And I agree, identity politics plays a role here as well.
So that's how now homosexuality or transgender issues can now dominate the public discourse. But it's only a symptom of a wider problem. Because the problem isn't only about the deviations (as in against the natural law), but about the sexual immorality in general. As as society, we've somewhat lost a sense of shame and of privacy of a sexual sphere.
So I think the main 'frontier' to 'fight' against it, is sexual morality and purity.
It's about showing the beauty of purity, especially in the form of virginity and celibacy, as well as the beauty of a rightfully ordered family life. (and should go without saying: no adultery, no fornication, no pornography, etc.)
Of course, to do that, one needs to incorporate that into their own life first, an example and integrity are most effective. But also to remind others, to re-set the norms and the boundaries of sexuality and privacy.
As Catholics we might particularly remember, that we are the temples of the Holy Spirit and sons and daughters of God, and to remind others that that it is who they are as well!

One of the factors as to why people don't "speak up" that I never see discussed is that these issues seem to be a bigger deal on Twitter, UA-cam, and the media. A lot of companies put a rainbow up and then don't do anything else so employees aren't really impacted. I know a ton of people who work for local companies that don't experience anything related to pride. Schools are out in the Midwest so nothing going at achool. In fact, conservative channels were the ones pushing all this stuff onto my feed this past month. This isn't to say that it's not concerning or we should do nothing, but more to say that a lot of people aren't affected by it in their day to day lives.

Could you do a video on the passage from Sirach...The wickedness of a man is better than the goodness of a woman? There's some research that I came across that shows a "poor" father in the home has better outcomes for kids than an absent father. I wondered if it's related in a way to this passage. Even a good mother is no substitute for a role that should only be occupied by a father, however lacking? God bless you we have a list of priests we pray for and we've added you to the list.

There is a unity between an individual's conscience and the objective moral order just as there is between our soul and or body. Attempts to deny this are the source of modern social upheaval.

I do t know Father, but i think it’s going to get worse. It’s obvious, it started with certain laws and movements and this is where we are now. I needed to hear this. Idk what to do. It’s getting to the point I do not want to buy anything anywhere! Perhaps as is this is part of our journey?!

This is a great take! I've thought about how the liberals have this "positive" edge towards the sin they are peddling. We Christians righteously disagree with them in conversation and that just fuels their virtue signaling even further. In fact liberals leave the conversation feeling superior because "well I'm not close minded like that guy."
I'll have to think about how to one up their positivity by boasting of our God through Jesus Christ. Which I think we had generations ago, but that positivity was stamped out of us Christians by sinful tyrants. Rather purposefully stamped out, may I add, because their demons cannot stand us exhalting before our God.

One can say the truth of God very lovingly and get a super victim, negative reaction if they don't think it's a sin and have no intention of changing.

I am at a loss about how to respond more often while so many people seem apt to be taking offense easier than ever before. Like for example when maybe being accused of practising cultural misappropriation. Or when more than one person becomes offended only because I wore my Metis sash to church on an October 31 Sunday one year where all the other young people were wearing ethinc costumes too at that small store front in a strip mall Evangelical church at the time. Right away I knew there was going to be trouble when another female going to church there pointed out to me only at first that wearing red lipstick was not a good idea. While the mother of both pastors who drove me there had the grace to remain welcoming me a sinner to by only remarking that my old wool winter coat which my mom gave me after buying it at a large multi-family garage sale in St. Albert Canada looked like something a person would wear while playing a role in a Charles Dickens movie while of course not being one of the poor orphans instead after taking my coat off to hang it up in the public space closet same as everybody else there too. It seems like being different at all in any way shape or form makes some people feel contentious. I want to contend with how some people try to claim that there is a pressing need to keep on creating a longer and longer with more characters word to describe sexual orientation now with a plus sign for the last character. Instead of the person getting to wear priestly robles too. I prefer isntead only to feel grateful that I don't have to join the marines at around age 33 or so too or become a Roman Catholic female priest later too. While continuing to remain female since I was conceived and while becoming wife and mother more than once too.

My dear Rev. Pine. I’ve never been more confused after listening to your attempt to pontificate on the “pride” issue. Weathering the storm?? Are you endeavoring to say we need to wait out people who are gay to change their sexuality? What about people who are NOT struggling with same sex attraction? Where do they fit in within the church? I have to admit, respectfully I found myself utterly perplexed by your attempt to clarify this issue. I believe Pope Francis said it best…”Who am I to judge?”
