I always play mage, and this warrior game play has made me want to play through as a warrior too at some point and I never play warrior. Love the game play. It looks so fun. Cannot wait till we can play. I want the game to release now.
Since I think Champion is the Warden-learned specialization, I think the 'meteor' she calls down in the ult IS Assan! Or another griffon, I suppose?
Look at the ground to Rook's right-ish (I think) side after the sword rain. Pretty sure you see Assan's shadow tuck wings and dive just like in Davrin's Death from Above!

This high level warrior makes me more excited. Considering I will be a human male shield and sword warrior. The character screen looks beautiful too.

People who hate on this game just want shallow anime-style writing. Someone told me they’re upset that we won’t see EVERY legacy character & past companion get sucked into a vortex and fight gladiator style like whaat. Y’all can like anime but don’t pretend that sh!t is nuanced writing or should reflect/reshape Dragon Age writing. If you read this thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
No, we want an actual Dragon Age game in the style of Dragon Age Origins.
What we don't want is a wannabe hero shooter (which was actually part of the development of this game as it was at one point intended to be a live service looter and it still REALLY shows) with crap action combat gameplay instead of the party based tactical RTwP combat Dragon Age always had.
Besides - the graphics they've shown for The Veilguard so far - THAT is anime graphics, especially in the character and creature design. While at least some characters look semi decent (Scout Harding in particular) most look goofy a s. And what the hell is this creature design? They've made laughing stocks out of every Darkspawn or Demon design that has ever existed in Dragon Age. Would be ok as enemies in Fortnite for the coop part of the game (as opposed to the PvP parts), but this should never be in a Dragon Age game.
Literally the only thing I cannot criticize at this moment in time about this game is the writing - to make an educated guess and have an opinion on that we need to see the full game, story and all. But given that they made up stuff like happy go lucky bunny veil jumpers I can't help but being pessimistic about that too.
But the rest? The rest is a violation of everything Dragon Age Orrigins was.

I'm def gonna be going spellblade for my Qunari Mage, but sword and shield def looks like a ton of fun. My only nitpicks are you don't actually seem to throw the shield, it's more like an energy attack from it? And that the companions look like they could def use a damage buff for their basic attacks.
The combat looks good. It’s almost everything I expected. We can select load outs specific to the combat situation (tactics!) and direct our companions with a ME style ability wheel that allows us to easily combine effects. Aside from the special attacks, we can also use light, heavy, parry and charged attacks and attack combinations and dodge at any time. We can survey the enemies on the field to find weaknesses which is something I never did in Inquisition. AND we get FINISHERS! We can set up take downs!
The one thing I wanted to see but didn’t was the ability to set the party member AI preferences. It should be fine if they are smart enough to not get themselves killed in combat when I’m not actively directing them to do things.
There appears to be more to the combat here than what I used in Inquisition. I never had a reason to use tactics of any sort in Inquisition.
My only criticism is aesthetic - That’s a lot of purple for me. It definitely won’t bother me when I’m actually engrossed in the game, but just looking at someone else playing - that’s a lot of purple.
I'm always a mage when available, going to be female elf Shadow dragon mage. I don't know about subcategory yet, I need to see more.
I know, I'm with you! I can't wait for mage gameplay. I'm still specialising in spell blade and more hyped about it, too, because I wanted to specialise in lightning magic as well, and now I get both in one 😊
I'm planning to start with female Shadow Dragon Elf Mage. I'm not sure about subcategory yet, I need to see more. Mage is always my go to and I love to be an elf in games where they aren't hideous. First romance, maybe all, will be Lucanis.
I am also torn between death caller and spell blade 😅 but im playing mage for sure, all my cannon main characters are mages!
I’m very curious about companion specializations. It looks like they’re already assigned one. I think it goes as follows…
Emmerich: Death Caller
Neve: Evoker
Davrin: Champion
Taash: Reaper (if Iron Bull is anything to go off of)
Lucanis: Duelist(?)
Bellara: Veil Ranger(?)
Harding: Saboteur(?)
Harding and Bellara are more confusing because we heard Harding has magic, so does that apply to her arrows? If so, I’d guess Veil Ranger. We also heard Bellara is a mage, yet she’s mainly an archer so I also want to say Veil Ranger.
My best guess is that Bellara plays as a rogue Veil Ranger while Harding is a Saboteur, and Lucanis maybe plays by his own rules with his wings, if not, then duelist.
If anyone has other ideas I’d love to hear it. I also like to think Assan and Manfred have something to do with Davrin and Emmerich’s skill trees, and maybe Lucanis & Harding’s magic as well. None of this is confirmed, however.
Considering we cant control them, they might just have their own things going on instead. While we are using specializations from a group and how they fight, they go a step further and have something specific only for themselves. Gryphon Master for Darvin for example.
As far as I know their classes are unique ie, bellara is a veil ranger focusing on the magic side and not the archer side and Harding is a scout maybe she uses a mix of saboteur and magic as varric is a artificer a precourcer to this version of saboteur
I think Tash will be a Slayer. When they show the Warrior skill tree, the Slayer side has a Lords of Fortune logo next to it.

I'm leaning toward my first Rook being a frosty and sarcastic elf mage (Evoker) with a Magekiller romance. Maybe a rivalmance if they have that avenue... probably a Veil Jumper. I can't not go right for the Fade fuckery and magic shit. But Warrior and Rogue look so good I have several additional Rook's planned already too 😅

I have to say I wish we didnt get the spoilers lol but it is what it is. My favorite part has to be my boy Assan 😌 but the dagger rune thing is super interesting! And not the Andraste fire ring 💀 Scared about what's going on at Weisshaupt, is the Hero of Ferelden leaving Rook on read? Is there something at Weisshaupt that mrs dragon is trying to free?
I'm still planning on archer rogue Rook first, likely still going with Veil Ranger bc my Rook just wants to shoot things with a bow. I hope to play all the subclasses at some point. Champion is 8th or 9th on the list, bc it doesnt fit with the Rooks I have for each of the romances, but it still looks fun! My canon Hawke is a sword and board warrior and currently on a sword and board warrior Pavelyan run so there's a chance it could get moved up the list

7:07 That’s a two-handed weapon. You can swap weapon loadouts in real time, with each loadout having its own abilities. So happy about this, so I don’t have to decide between two-handed or sword-and-board for a whole playthrough!
As far as i was told you can change the element of your skills and basic attacks so dont worry pick what you want,you should be able to chenge it with skills and rune.
I wonder where the transmog comes in? I dont see transmog features to what they showed. Just a click button if you want to show the current armor or not.

This trailer has left me more confused about what I want to be at first I wanted to be a tall dwarf that somewhat casts magic and uses single-handed or two-handed weapons. I don't know how they said I can't. We'll figure that out later with a great axe. Now I'm seeing an orb with a weapon that you could probably replace because there are three weapon slots so I'm thinking maybe I can play as an I don't know a warrior elf and have an orb or maybe I can play as a spell blade elf and hopefully I can use a great ax with an orb or something. I don't know anymore i need more information. Because the description of spell blade does say channel potent spells for close quarter combat and I have no idea what that means.
Spellblade is a mage specialization. They use their magic to fight the enemies in melee. Similar to Knight Enchanter from inquisition.
There are two weapon slots, and each class has two weapon types to choose from. Mage is Staff, and a Magical Dagger (the dagger seems to come with a floating orb).
Warriors have Sword+Shield, and Two handed weapons.
Rogues have Bow, and Dual daggers
Dwarves can’t be mages, so if you choose to play a dwarf you can either be a Rogue, or a Warrior.

first off they’re mean 😢 towards dwarfs and they won’t allow me to go to the Giants and tell them wakey wakey. It’s time to give me my magic powers. Even though there is a dwarf in the party with magic (👀) i’ll save it for a second play through I guess.
if I do a two-handed weapon like a great axe, then I’ll pretty much lose any range options I get if I was to do sword and shield. Don’t know if that’s fully correct but I guess we’ll come back to that. Since the gameplay only showed sword and shield, but they did have a weapon slot for sword, shield, and a I guess a two hand hammer I’m still confused. Sorry
Dagger and orb is the only thing together allegedly so I don’t know about that. I don’t think I want to be stuck with one dagger and a orb if I did do that I would like to be able to switch two daggers but I guess I’ll see later
can’t do rogue my party harmony will be gone in my mind. I got Luke with me. Also, I did rogue in inquisition.

@@maxseals4827 You get two slots for the weapons. So if you want to take Sword and Shield in slot A, but *also* a large two handed sword in slot b you can.
Im not sure if you could take two of the same weapon type though.

I am worried with not being able to play as a companion means if I find my starting class boring I would have to just start over the game. Before I would just play as a companion and be fine. Also the companions teleporting instantly to targets to me is very weird how can they suddenly all teleport?
You can respec your abilities, so I think you can switch Specializations. But yeah, you’re probably stuck with your base class.

I like what was shown but I wish they just showed a mission of raw gameplay without explaining every single mechanic. Just comes off as choppy. Still excited for this game but a bit frustrating

I got the impression we will have a back story depending on our race and faction.
It was thrash and it confirmed a lot of my fears - those were my thoughts about the high level gameplay reveal.

@@unifadewalker yes it was. We finally got confirmation that the companions HP bars have been removed (they might as well be imortal now and by themselves they hardly do any damage to the enemy). We also discover they will also have no stats and an even more reduced equipment than in DA2. The ghouls now look and run like the husks from mass effect. The particle effects are cheap, they are two sparkly and lights and compared to inquisition its a full downgrade (look at Rook throwing the shield, it doesnt even leave her hand or Lucanis Eviscerate skill - what was even that? What was that magic circle? He is not even attacking with his weapons, how is he eviscerating the darkspawn?). I am not a fan of them reducing the potions/poultices to the green potion your get from breaking jars (this is not dragon age!).
Yeah maybe you just shouldn’t play Veilguard if this is how you feel, just stick to Origins maybe that will keep you happy?
@@unifadewalker Oh I love this argument. As if what i just complained about them removing, wasnt stuff that also existed in 2 and inquisition. They completely removed core mechanics that existed in all 3 previous games, it was part of the charm of the games, part of their staple.
