Same here from a different part of the world, indonesia. It is comparable to german's counterparts in terms of luxury and exclusivity among rich people right here. Even lexus have their own unique sophisticated touch, such as vip parking in local malls as a loyalty program to their customer, which is a very nice bonus (really hard to find free parking lots here) and also a free flow haagen dazs and equil waters every time you buy car or visit their workshop for maintenance. Plus, if you're a buyer of somewhere outside capital region, you'll get a free 5 star hotel, business class plane ticket and vip limousine to deliver you to their main gallery. Besides, their models look pretty good (Like RX, LS and this IS)..

@@brg9759 As nolan said, this car was really cheap to engineer because it was made out of pre-existing parts. But yes, the absolute majority of people see cars as transportation devices and nothing more, so they don't buy anything like this. Also, what a lot of car people don't understand is that because of the rise of self-driving vehicles, this hobby is very close to dying, or at least very close to changing completely. A very small amount of people will modify cars once you can't drive them on regular roads (we will some day transition completely to self driving cars), and you can't modify a car which is driven completely by a computer. And car manufacturers know it, so they don't really try to invest in this market.

The Yaris GR probably won't ever be sold in America, because they make a vastly different kind in global markets. But, we could see the Corolla Hatchback GR, which would have the same powertrain, just in a Corolla Hatch.

Dude I own a GSF - and there is ZERO aftermarket for F cars. The only stuff is super high end from Japan. $6k for a cat back. $12k full exhaust. $600-800 for an intake. Lol. Body kits that aren’t carbon are $4-5k. Engine stuff is limited to RR Racing.

The Chevrolet/Holden SS was likely damaged sales wise by being an unintended sleeper.
Lots of owners though, love the sleeper aspect of the rare SS and the benefits of that.

It was also damaged sales wise by not being advertised anywhere. I didn't know anything about them until a few years ago. I'm not even sure what the years of production were.
A older car guy in my neighborhood has one. He has a few cars and a boat. His 1998ish suburban is still in great condition. He also has a 70s Chevelle. The SS is his daily. He keeps to himself but I'm sure it's the 6 speed which is even more rare.
Yeah... I think the hype around the IS 500 prevented it from going the way of the SS. It was selling like hotcakes in its first year. It was very tough to get one, let alone at MSRP.

@@lucysmith4242 Yeah, that's what the world is lacking - a bare-bones simple sporty car. One that is a Toyota, not a Lexus. But I'm guessing that's regarded as less profitable. The gadgets and "luxury" aspect aren't really that expensive to the manufacturer but can command a much higher price.
Finding a bare-bones basic car of any sort is really difficult now, I blame that on current safety and emissions laws - all cars are required to have sophisticated airbags, stability control, backup camera (and associated screen), complicated emissions controls, and so on. These things will make any car with the bare minimum requirements to be sold still fairly expensive, and if people are going to pay that much it makes sense to pay just a little more for a "nice" car.
But still, I could imagine a car outfitted like the cheapest (still not super cheap) current econoboxes but with a performance engine and tuned suspension. Well actually that's pretty much what the Ford Focus RSX was, and Ford seemed to try to sabotage it through lousy marketing and dealers not catering to the people who would buy it. This leads me to another suspicion, that the old farts at car companies don't want to make a "yobbo" car, don't want to be associated with "hooligans" in any way. They'll make interesting "halo" cars, but deliberately price them out of reach of young driving enthusiasts to keep the brand's reputation for "distinguished people." Then I suppose a way around that would be to create a separate brand for that to distance it from their mainline (Boomer-appeasing) brand. That would be Scion, but they totally missed the mark. Leading me to the conclusion that auto maker execs don't understand and/or don't like young car enthusiasts.

No doubt. Someone out there needs to make a great manual trans or two that have a lot of compatibility built into the design and the big companies all use it in their products. Seems it would be profitable for the transmission company and the car makers wouldnt have to spend a fortune to equip them as manuals. I could be wrong though.

All they have to do is market. Plenty of businessmen buy Lexus cars and this might be popular. They have to offer a true base version of this car with minimum interior crap. Those were the problems with the Chevy SS, no marketing, and the interior was too nice, making it too expensive.
Honestly I feel like this was a smart marketing move by Lexus. By having Donut Media reveal the car it gave them access to the all the right people to market to. Smart move, but I’m also very proud and happy for Donut Media for making big company moves by collaborating with Lexus
