I have had my Sportster for 25 years and 400,000 miles on the original engine and 37 back tires and 17 front ones and 3 belts in 25 years. I have had my Triumph Tr-6 with a hard tail and magneto for 40 years. Vintage British motorcycles are rebuidable forever. Reliable and dependable transportation if maintained properly. No electronics waiting to have a expensive failure. Today's motorcycles are a collection of government regulations on 2 wheels.

Important is the feeling a motorcycle gives to its rider and not what anyone else thinks the owner should be riding.

    I bought mine because:
    1. It looks a hell of a lot better than most of the de-mechanized crap being manufactured today.
    2. It's a new bike that's easy to wrench on, if needed.
    3. Owners rave about them (deservedly).
    4. It's the prototypical "slow bike that's fun to ride fast."
    5. I was facing some health challenges and I needed a lighter bike.
    6. The price.
    7. Did I mention looks?
Bottom line, the RE INT 650 is a bargain. You're getting a heck of a lot of bike for the price. IMO, they beat Triumph at their own game by coming in with a bike that's 80% of a Bonne T100 at 60% of the price.

I look at it a little differently. I don't buy bikes to make me cool. I buy bikes that I think are cool as a thanks to their designers. Today, what I like makes me the antithesis of cool. To be cool today, everything must be painted black, gray or some dreary combination of the two. I still like clean engine designs (free of all the hoses and wire bundles), shiny paint, and chrome. I don't give two shits about power specs. If I'm comfortable on it, can go around corners at decent speeds without dragging the frame, and it will pass traffic on a highway, I'm good.
That said, I had a young girl give me a thumbs up at a light the other day while on my Thruxton. That made me feel kinda cool as usually only other old men notice and wax nostalgic over the version of it they had 50 yrs ago.

hi man, very cool channel, I appreciate your honest and no bullshit approach to motorcycles and traveling.
I have a question for you since you are among few people that has ridden both the interceptor and the himalayan (ok, scram, but it is a same engine).
I have a himalayan for a few years now, first bike and all,and i learned about myself in that time that i rearly go off road, and that i like to travel alot, avoiding highways if possible, becouse they are boring.
I'm in love with Interceptor from the first time i saw it,and was thinking, after 3 years,it is time to move to something with more power and more road orianted. I'm 169 cm tall, and can flathfoot both of these bike, i'm not a speed lover, more of a cruise easy kinda person.
So I would be so happy if you could,in a few words, state your opinnion about that transition, about how they feal and handle, how does weight feel, etc..
Himalayan was a great first bike, comfortable and easy to ride, and easy to learn to ride, but i'm starting to wish for a just a little bith more power (and that classic roadster style)
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work

      @FreeMilesMC  2 місяці тому +2

The interceptor definitly has enough power and you can also comptably Cruise on it, it alao feels light Even tho its above 200kg if you like road riding more I soûls say go for it.
I would go for thé blacked out one as thé crome Even tho its beautiful can be a pain in the ass

At 79 years old, I am beyond being cool, even if it was possible. My INT650 is not a fake motorcycle. It stands as a complete and well thought out machine in its own right. Some say it looks old. I actually think it looks like a new bike should. It gets almost more attention than I want. It's simple, easy to maintain, and has a genuine mechanical soul that makes it a pleasure to ride. Just ditch the notion of coolness, it's a colossal waste of thinking. Get over it and enjoy the ride. Happy Travels.

For me, Royal Enfield is an absolute underdog brand that knows its stuff. I used to drive a lot of US classic cars because I liked the charm, the sound and the screwing. They were never perfect but always had a soul. I found the same thing with Royal Enfield motorcycles. Never perfect but always with soul and charm. Certain other motorcycle brands are too biased for me, such as Harley Davison, KTM or BMW GS. With RE you jump out of the mainstream and celebrate independence. No super high tech that will give you a headache, just simple, solid technology that works and is also affordable. If I were to go on a trip around the world, the only option for me would be a RE, just because you can repair it yourself and that brings trust. Speed only plays a minor role outside of Germany anyway, so performance is not as important as reliability. RE has managed to offer its products into this gap and has been very successful.
*Royal Enfield Global Sales are skyrocketing. In 2023 sales improved ahead any expectations reaching a new record of 0.92 million (+16.2%)

Interesting what you say about Cosplay motorcycles. I'm old enough to remember when nearly all motorcycles looked like the Interceptor, and some of us believe bikes took an unfortunate turn with machines like the Suzuki Katana. That isn't to say that the Katana is not an interesting bike in its own right, but it represents a change from organic shapes and compound curves, to sharp edges and triangles, which every subsequent motorcycle adopted. Bikes came to be judged on their efficiency, low wind resistance dictated the front and side profile, and brake horse power and newton metres became a metric of absolute merit. Outside western markets different principles applied, automatic scooters and simple thumpers had traction where bikes were not lifestyle accessories to be ridden on summer Sundays and traded every two years. It's less Cosplay than the rediscovery of a parallel design universe that had been running in tandem all along.

    • @FreeMilesMC
      @FreeMilesMC  2 місяці тому +1

I think this probably also comes from 2 diffrent Perspektives on these motorcycles. My perspective is probably also influenced by the fact that bikes that look like the interceptor were modern more than 30 years before I was born so that’s probably why I missed that perspective in my video. A very interesting point, thank you☺️

@@collyernicholasjohn Japanese as in Manga, certainly. Sports motorcycles look like comic versions of what a sports motorcycle should be (frowning front profile, carved wedge shapes having little relationship to each other, tail as far as possible from the rear wheel), and the industry is in a feedback loop they can't get out of because that's what the market now demands.

Royal Enfield and Harley Davidson reminds me of the 1837 fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen called The Emperor's New Clothes. These are poorly engineered motorcycles with very low power for their engine size. Everyone sees these facts but pretends otherwise to avoid being thought of as a fool.

    • @FreeMilesMC

@@FreeMilesMC I believe I'm correct in stating the 650 Interceptor requires valve inspection every 10,000 km whereas my 750 Hornet requires this at 24,000 km. I suggest that's down to engineering.

@@mrcintheuk4641 It's a different approach to motorcycle ownership. In Royal Enfield's home market, bikes are expected to survive home maintenance, a certain neglect, low quality lubricants and fuels, and still last for many years. So maintenance regimes are conservative to accommodate the motorcycle as a workhorse, not a show pony. In the west, most people take their bike to a professional service agent, who has special tools required to access its complexities and update the bike's software, and charge accordingly. Two different world views about what a bike is, and our relationship with it.
