i got a 2003 first gen 6.0 bone stock with 230,000 miles now, never put nothing but batteries and a starter on it. Hauled fifth wheels with it its whole life as an every other day use truck. Loved owning it these years.

2004 6.0 dually. Primarily stock. It does have a slightly bigger turbo and cold air intake. When i bought it, it only had 127k miles an it was deleted. first day of the second week it died while I was driving. Crank no start. So the first thing I did was change the IPR. then I found out my HPOP was bad. So I changed the HPOP, oil cooler, flushed my coolant system, an never had a problem since. I love my 6.0. Change yo oil and all filters on time. Between 8 an 10k miles an u got a dependable and probably the BEST sounding diesel of all time. 185k miles an running.

Got my minty 06 manual with 50k a few months ago. Blue spring, scangauge, cleaned egr valve, coolant flush and coolant filter, new oem oil filter cap and filter, both fuel filters (filled with seafoam), trans/tc fluids. Oil and coolant temps have been awesome. 1-5 degrees. Saw 9 while towing 6k lbs. I'm super happy with the truck. Guys like you and your knowledge made me confident with choosing the 6.0.

Don't be overwhelmed the first thing to do is just get a monitor either thr torque pro or forscan app and go from there. These are great trucks just sometimes you gotta work through a few things so don't panic. Some people wanna replace everything when they don't need to replace a thing

When I first got my 6.0 I did the blue spring mod and Egr delete. And when I had the delete done I also put in a new OEM oil cooler, stc fitting, dummy plugs and all new gaskets. After that was the charge pipes and a No Limit intake followed by a Sinister Diesel coolant filtration kit. 👍
And I just got a Livewire Ts tuner in May.

Bought an 07 King Ranch 6.0. 155.5k miles on the clock. Already had ARP studs, BPD remote air/oil cooler, BPD EGR cooler, rear suspension airbags with onboard compressor, and new GoodYear Wrangler tires. Things I've done so far: new OEM foglights, new OEM headlights, 08+ style side view mirrors, CTS3 monitor, jimmi-jammers in the front doors (soon to be in all 4 doors), and a Ravelco anti-theft system. I have stainless steel ESOF vacuum lines for the 4wd system on the way from Diesel Site.

Only issie ive had is IPC sensor went bad, regular maintenance, shocks, a coolant Y connection broke, and a fuel station had kerosene in their diesel pump which left me with a bill of replacing all injectors, since the injector replacement its ran like a brand new truck and i love it. Never lets me down and has been an amazing truck.

My 04 F-350 6.0 powerstroke is coming up on 300,000 miles bone stock aside from a sinister diesel oil and coolant filter and new injectors due to a fuel contamination issue. I did also have the engine body harness changed due to it melting above the Turbo. All I use it for is hauling so it's run hard.
It has not been studded or deleted. It has also never had a tuner on it. I do maintain it well.

After watching your channel I purchased these and with the monitor I noticed my deltas are very large and it runs hot. I have an 04 like yours...I love this truck! I think the number one thing you can do is buy a truck that’s been taken care of. I’ve had mine for 2 years, bought it with 125k on it and it now has 145k. It was a one owner truck and I paid 12k for it. It had the blue spring and bulletproof ficm on it when I purchased it, 2 inch level kit with wheels and tires. And all service records! Very important these trucks like their oil changed regularly. I bought it primarily to tow a 30 foot bumper pull that’s 7k pounds dry..I’m guessing 9-9500 when fully loaded. It tows it with ease. I’ve since put an afe air filter, mbrp 4 in turbo back exhaust. I live in sparks, Nv and tow through the Sierra Nevada mountains. I’ve got an edge monitor, and it is outstanding. My temps vary quite a bit when towing..ect is generally 190-200 and oil usually 200 to 215..but it’s been as high as 235 going through Oregon over Grants pass.
Before we went to the Grand Tetons in June, I put in a bulletproof water pump mostly for piece of mind..and also did the 7.3 fan clutch conversion. I towed that 10 percent grade over the mountains like a champ..200 ect and 220 oil..I was stoked! That fan conversion I’m convinced is a must do for these trucks as well...
So far this truck has been great, reliable, looks great still, no rust...I plan on keeping it a long time..thanks for the channel bro!!

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  2 роки тому +3

I haven't done the research on gear fluids yet, but as for oil I would stuck to Motorcraft or Schaeffers. Motorcraft filter, I use ford transmission fluid and a 08 filter with a deep pan. See my transmission video on that. For coolant I tend to run cat ec1. Ford gold is fine but requires maintenance at like 30k I would drain it all and refill.

When I got mine I learned everything that was wrong after I bought it. I then did a lot of reading and decided to do BPD air oil cooler and remote oil filter with EGR delete, 7.3 fan clutch, dummy plugs and stand pipes, snap to connect fitting and various monitoring items. In my opinion, if the truck has healthy studs and gaskets, with all of this done. You will not need to upgrade them.

Totally kidding, but at the same time most of the youngins are gonna watch ur video and not listen; thus buy a tuner and blow it up. I think 6.0 gets a bad name because people do more than they should with it. It’s a school bus motor, not a drag motor. Not a “haul 30,000 lbs” up Pikes Peak motor. Also gets a bad name because people can’t afford to replace oil cooler e very 50k like the book says. It’s a work truck. Use it for work and treat it like it makes you money.

If I remember right international never meant for it to make. I really do try and be super straight forward about all these things. I mean I do not think there is anything wrong with a tow tune but you're right some people here tuner and then go right for the most hp they can and wonder why they couldn't tow 15k with their 6.0 before the top half of the engine blew. Or melted a piston. I do really try and emphasize this and the fact that anytime you increase fueling you are causing a level of increased wear on the parts

I currently have an 04' v10 excursion. Seeing all these jokes about the 6.0 motor has put me off from buying one at all. But recently I've been open to the idea of trying it out. If I got a 6.0, it would be years 04-05. My questions are.
1.) Anything about those years to check on in regards to the motor.
2.) Any keywords a seller may say that could bite me later?
3.) How much would be a safe amount to put aside to cover most repairs or upgrades (not maintenance).
    Lastly.
4.) Is there a mileage limit you would look for if you plan to keep it long term
I've never had a diesel but I would love to say I at least tried it out. Thank you for if you read this!

Hey man, love the channel! I've owned a 2004 F250 6.0 Lariat Crew 4x4 for 6 years now since my Dad passed, he bought it in 2007 with 45k miles on it. Its at 176500 now and only had one issue with, back in 2018 a valve in my 5spd auto trans gave out. I do need to replace the oil pan gasket though, slow leak. As far as I know there's no tuning or power upgrades on it and nothings been deleted and I plan to keep it that way. I've never had head gasket issues, an oil cooler was replaced over 10 years ago, and a FICM. I don't tow more than once a year and never have any heavier than a pop-up camper. I am shipping and moving to hawaii with it and plan to own and daily it for as many years as I can. Is there anything you think I should do to mine as is (beyond the oil pan gasket, and maybe that blue spring kit)? Ive also just started noticing a clunk in the front end when turning hard from a stop. Already had the sway bar end links and bushings replaced recently. Doing the brakes soon.

I would at least verify your fuel pump is holding fuel pressure under load, and inspect the turbo and in and out shaft play.

Studs, ford gaskets, update dummy plugs and stand pipes, oil cooler, blue spring, egr delete, turbo because vgt will be f-ed, ficm power board, and injectors. Expect front and rear mains to fail. Front main needs $190 special tool to remove and install wear sleeve. Fuel sending units fail. And expect to replace a couple brake calipers. Maybe a lift pump.

All right 6.0 Bros, I’ve been watching your videos and of course Powerstroke Help too. I appreciate the content!
I’ve been a V10 gasser fan/user for over 2 decades now. I know they are not as powerful but I’ve never done anything to our V10’s except maintain them.
That being said, the 6.0 diesel has got me interested. Do you have a video on why someone like me who seems content with gas engines should move to a diesel?
Right now I just have a camper and a small car hauler. I am without a Super Duty right now but want another one for sure.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  3 роки тому +2

I do not have a video on it but I can try and touch on a few things here. First let's talk about the bad stuff of the 6.0 and some diesel stuff in general. They are expensive to maintain. 15 quarts of oil a very specific oil filter, 2 fuel filters that should be changed at a minimum yearly if not twice a year. They are hard and front end components and those are also pretty expensive, but if you are a super duty guy that part isn't new. Now the more 6.0 specific stuff. Injectors are expensive and if the previous owner didn't replace them there is a decent chance you'll be replacing them soon. If head gaskets weren't done or there was sloppy work when they were done likely will come up at some point too. They can be a little weird to diagnose for some people too. Now let's get into the good. Minimal emissions to deal with, and and is on there is easy to make reliable with minimal detriment on the engine itself. Great performance with minimal upgrades, and while they are not fast in stock form they are monsters when it comes to towing. You do some mild upgrades and you can have a truck that competes in the towing department with newer stock trucks. I do want to emphasize competes not beats. You can't beat the newer transmissions and their added gears. As for why you would want to come from a v10. You will get much better fuel economy, and overall performance. If you thought the v10 did a good job towing you will be blown away by the transmission braking feature and if you want tuning can use your turbo as an exhaust brake too. Think of a v10 as a mustang gt and the diesel option is like the gt500. It's not 100% accurate by the right idea. I hope this helps I tried to be honest and talk about some downsides that you may face owning the 6.0 while talking about the good.

I have an F250 and an F450 both with 6.0 engines. Here is my advice; forget the monitors. Install the blue spring to raise your fuel pressure and forget about it. Backflush your coolant system every two years (using only distilled water and the CAT rated coolant) and then forget about your oil cooler. Don't program your engine or put a bigger turbo on it and you can forget about your head bolts. Keep good shocks and normal tires on it and your steering parts will last. It's my experience that the owners of these trucks are their own worst enemies. You aren't an engineer so why screw with it? With good maintenance the 6.0 is the second best diesel Ford ever used (second to the 7.3) so leave it alone and enjoy it.

I will have to find the video I made but I had it rub through the pipe on the one support. The boots are decent and the clamps are absolute garbage. The quality control and fit and finish really vary from set to set compared to like mbrp or no limit fab the welds are nicer the pipes have a much better fit and finish. Your set might be ok truthfully make sure nothing is rubbing mine did on the driver side pipe. I would get new clamps from bd diesel or power driven has nice ones too

I'm looking at a 2005 f250 6.0 and it looks pretty good. It's beat up inside and out but the motor sounds really strong. Guy says it's bulletproof and has a new ipr system and has other things done to it. He's asking 7500 but I think he'd take 5k cash. 215k miles on the truck, it's a lariat 4x4. Once I verify by way of paperwork, I think it'll be a really good deal but idk. I also plan on doing 4 inch true dual smoke stacks out the bed for the egt benefits that smoke stacks do give. I also want stacks to get the exhaust up and away from ground level as i do plan to do an egr delete if its not already done to the truck. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

@@six0bros I agree wholeheartedly. NO truck is perfect, it can only be made perfect for you in your own mind. And I'm looking for a 2001 and older because that's the last year before EGR. Everything earlier is safe for the most part. And as for the transmission, if I find an automatic, I fully intend to baby it as much as I can til I can afford an Allison swap from AT transmissions. If the truck I get is a 6 speed I ain't gotta worry about a dadgum thing but makin her look pretty and run even better. But I'm thinking automatic just because it's easier to tow with vastly so most especially over long distances which I'd be doing with her in time. Maintenance is key with a 6.0 they do take more maintenance than some other diesels but when they are maintained they are great trucks. How much power do you want to add? That will determine a lot about what needs done. There are several different variations of deletes for for egr I always tell people to address it. There are reliable egr coolers now and if you add one to your truck it will be fine. If you can delete it have at it but for a lot of people that is not an option. When you turn up the power you will add some degree of additional stress to the head gaskets. I'm advise is until you are ready to do a head gasket with studs to not add power. A "coolant filter" is not a filter at all. It is a 3 or 6 SCA charge canister for wet lined cylinders, Ford 6.0 does not run SCA type anti-freeze and therefore renders the "filter" a useless add-on to the ford 6.0L. Don't be fooled, cut one in half if you don't believe me. You will find SCA booster pellets in between thin 3 or 6 layers of metal (3 being the shorter filter and 6 being the tall filter). I am not sure of the effects of SCA in Motorcraft gold Anti-freeze of whether in will fight it or help it. I guess it would depend if it is traditional Glycol base or if it is Organic Acid technology (OAT)or Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT), SCA treatment doesn't go into OAT/HOAT Antifreeze.

They are great trucks and I always tell people you don't need to upgrade stiff all the time. The 6.0 also doesn't need deleted. It will provide zero improvement in performance and fuel economy.

First thing that broke was the ficm then injectors then head gaskets and oil cooler then the rear-end locked up causing the Trans to go too so all said 11k for the truck with 15k in repairs just to keep it running almost forgot to mention cannot sell it due to the cluster being changed out twice and the true mileage not known on the truck so all in all I still love my monster of a truck still beating up on all the chargers corvetts and camaro's
