I learned something tonight. They say if you learn one thing everyday, when you get old you will be wise. Thank you for today. I will be up there in 4 weeks.
Brings back a lot of fond memories. Back in the early 70's squid rollers were just coming into use. There were some strange looking contraptions. You made do with whatever you could get your hands on. We used to tie the jiggers individually & there was some colorful language when they broke in the middle of the night on the squiddin ground. The squid were so plentiful in the mid seventies that the color of the water was a milky color when you got on them. The jiggers would stop going down & when you hauled back it was both hands on the handle. Things have gone modern. Thanks for sharing. Let's hope they show up this year.
Love your shows Man! Hey. Im.from Alaska and have Commercial fished here. I don't know if we have Squid where I'm at but ive got to say your Squid Hauler is a work of genius! We anchor chocks on the beach and out onto rocks to run lines thru to make a continuous pull so that we can pull nets on or off the beach while set netting It's similar but I never thought of running the lines vertically. You guys are smart!
Deon, that was totally awesome. I didn’t even know what a Squid really looked like as they are not very prevalent here in Wisconsin… lol. Great job and good Video. Keep ‘em coming Bud…
Never knew these were a Newfoundland originated design. I grew up on the Avalon seeing & using variations when it came time for trawling season. Thanks for the overview!
Now that is what every squid jigger needs. That is awesome to see how it works. The one idea that I would suggest it to make up a pedestal somehow and attach a chain driven motor where the handle is. Something like a bike chain setup but with chain sprockets and a chain driving it. It shouldn't be hard to figure out there Leon, especially with all your knowledge and ingenuity that you have. Best to use a chain setup and not belts as the belts would slip when they get wet. That would certainly help your arm, shoulder and back for sure. Looking forward to seeing what you bring us next. 🙂
What a wicked rig great job. One of my best memories with my grandfather is squid jigging with the big reals it was so much fun. Still enjoy jigging them off the warf.
I am in NB I fish squid with a rod/reel from the wharf at night . But this is my first time seeing a squid hauler . I have used a similar rig for mackerel back when we were allowed to catch ‘em for lobster bait
Great rig for at the squids. Awesome idea,s newfies come up with ah. First time I actually seen this and I live in nfld. Originally from Labrador. Where we live there's no squids. Haven,t heard of any. Great stuff buddy. Squid juice flying ha,ha.
dang, thats cool... i wonder if there are squid where we fish in prince rupert on west coast. is there a good better best time of year, time of tide cycle, depth, structure, current? Now Im curious. wanna know more.
Our squid do not show up until at the earliest July and stick around right up to November sometimes. Generally, if squid are in your area you will see them squirting water at the surface as they feed.
Great explanation, thanks for your efforts! The only doubt is that so many squid fishing rigs are stored in the roller. Wouldn’t the hooks get caught on the fishing line, causing the line to be unloaded or retrieved abnormally?
@@HOTRhuntinontherock This is the confusing part. So many hooks and lines are wound on the roller. Is there some trick in the design to ensure that the lines and hooks do not get entangled?
If your roller was set to the opposite side of where the hooks come back in the boat, with the line going under a roller it could give more contact time and better friction on you wheel. Message me if you need an illustration
Better be careful with the number of views you get. One thing I’ve learned about governments and innovation is that, “ If it moves, regulate it. If it keeps moving, Tax it. Once it stops moving, subsidize it”. Cool invention.
Dion your great ambassador for Newfoundland & Labrador and the outdoors in general 👍
As we say " I tries me best" Thanks for watching!
Idea for more grip.... spiral hauler...the line tracks around and down the drum......the downward roller is farther aft than the upward roller
Yes i have considered that but it would be have to be a huge roller if there were more then one line. Thanks for watching

I mentioned in the video there is a hydraulic system hauler, but this manual system is much more exciting and fun.lol. Thanks for watching

That's what you call a workout 4 sure! Arms like Popeye after this lol. Great rig!

Thats is totally up to you. Depending on how much water you fish. We have 30 to 40.
Dion, do you do dried squid?
My buddy from the rock introduced me to it years ago, it's so good but I've never been able to find it commercially.
We have not done the last few years. Don't seem to be a buyer anywhere near us.Thanks for watching
I couldn't quite understand the reel you put down. Is it going down to the bottom or is it just under the boat? I can't figure out how it works☹️
At the 17:38 marker i explains it
That was totally bomb. great video
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing buddy, I hope you're getting a fair price. Probably not, but here's to hoping.
Thanks for watching!
Good day new subs here ,, your idea is cool..i learned a lot

That would not be an issue at all our setup right now never tangles so i dont see why it would with my newer style. Thanks for watching

Where do you get those rollers? Any suggestions where to get them in the US?
I miss it out the bay, going up across gaze point
You have to repeat that again i don’t understand. Sorry
Hello beautiful person, I want to watch your video with Turkish subtitles, but there is no Turkish option in the settings. how do we do it

How do i message you, I really don't see how your idea would improve, but I'm open to ideas. Thanks for watching

Did that paddle boarder call you "Poacher"?
Is that what you heard? Thanks for watching?
@@HOTRhuntinontherock You were there. It was a question...
Quantos zangarelhos em cada carretel?
If you are talking about how many jigs are on the last hauler in the video, its about 240.
@@HOTRhuntinontherock em apenas um carretel coloca quantos zangarelhos?
@@HOTRhuntinontherockDo you use 40 jigs per reel?
