This is the question I've asked myself in 4x11. But if we looks closely, for her entire life, this was who she is, EXCEPT, for season 1. I feel like ever since she found out that she can't have more children, her lust for power became everything for her.
I also believe that if she had been able to have children, maybe she could have even tolerated to share Ragnar with Aslaug. Instead, the confrontation was too much of an humiliation, and I believe this was the breaking point for her character. What little was left of the brave and loving woman from season 1 was then destroyed by the betrayals of Kalf and Ecbert.
This is who Lagertha has always been underneath...a bitch with no brain who can't handle any sort of dissent. It's just that up until now she's been under the control of her husband and her son. I doubt many men would risk their lives on an extremely dangerous journey, to a place that might not even exist outside of Floki's imagination... Plus, Floki himself said that only those who are truly faithful may come AND that he didn't want plenty of them, only few. So Floki only wanted a handful of people. What would happen in the future, if left to question. But for right now, he didn't want too many to travel with him. Lagertha could be right if Floki said "The journey is safe so all of Kattegat can come with me". But he didn't. So she can spare those old men and young girls.

Floki was a brilliant character but I don’t like what they did with him post season four. He should have become the next seer, not a sort of desperate, false prophet who abandoned his friends and family. He’d always lived on the fringes, been closer to the Gods than people, he’d always been mad… and wise, and helped his friends and family despite being distant and odd. I actually thought that his scene with the seer had implied that he would replace him. Instead, we got this. Later season Floki isn’t even Floki anymore. He has no bite and no loyalty to his kin. His whole seeing the Gods in Iceland thing was even pointless because he already saw them. His younger self would have been wise enough to know that purity is overrated and the Gods are everywhere so you don’t have to go elsewhere to find them. I really think the writers did the character a disservice with what they did with him.

"Shield Maidens" are extremely over emphasized in this show. Not even real proof it was a big thing in real viking culture. The show had to be female empowering from the start though, or it never would have went as far as it did. That is also what killed it though.
Considering many female skeletons have been found amongst Viking battle sites, there's definitely proof that the Vikings carried female warriors on their raids. Shieldmaidens are also repetitively mentioned in the Sagas, which were stories told orally throughout Norse history.
It is lore accurate, the show is based on the Ragnar Lodbrok sagas which does speak abundantly on shieldmaidens and strong female figures, even throughout Norse mythology and history there are many significant and strong female figures so why not portray that in the show, what's your problem with it lmao you watch too much redpill shit
As much as I used to love Floki, the entire storyline surrounding him now is just pointless, like a waste of film that could have been used for more relevant shit..
