I think when floki hallucinated to me the looked like the messsage the gods were saying was go back home. One hallucination blew out bees which looked negative. Then one blew crows/ birds in his face. I think the message was go home and god fixed his had so he could leave and not bring people there. He took the warning the wrong way. The exact opposite
What's the guy called, "Eyvind"? Shit's gonna go down. I don't know if people are going to die or if he's going to just be exiled perhaps for stirring up a plot and getting discovered. But either way he's complaining constantly to the detriment of the colony out of spite, while also refusing to leave and go somewhere else, as if he really wants the colony to fail. If he can't return home to Kattegat, he can go find another land to make his home. The Faroe Islands aren't that far away. He could always go there, at least temporarily.
Im with the floki hater. Floki lied to them, took them from their good homes to a harsher place, to the mouth of a volcano, WTF?. The floki hater has a lot of right to hate floki. he's throwing out all his rage , his disappointment and his feeling tricked by floki at floki and his defenders. You do have point though. The Floki hater must decide to either kill floki and or try to destroy the settlement or leave.
rayleigh8 You will see, the Gods shall provide to those who are faithful(Floki). I mean he has a fucking crow/raven now following around(Odin) for Gods sake.
Dang floki should be focus on building farms, food storage, fisheries and breed their animals then when things are good, they can build their temple 🤦♂️
In case you're not familiar with Icelandic history, Iceland was in fact the first democratic society since the downfall of the Roman Republic (with the added benefit that women were allowed to own property and vote in their elections...something that North American women have only been allowed to do for the last century) and Catholics and Heathens co-existed side by side in relative peace until both were largely replaced by Protestantism. Although Iceland was officially annexed by the Norwegian crown at roughly the same time as the American War of Independence, the country peacefully returned to being a democracy in the 20th Century. I say this because a lot of alt-right chowderheads have been nattering on about their hatred of feminism, Christianity, immigrants and democracy in general, and they really chap my ass!
I've seen you comment on various Vikings clips, and I wanted to say thank you for being around. There aren't many UA-cam users in history-related content who aren't reactionary right-wing dumbasses.
While I, too, despise the far-right's "takeover" of my culture -- I do have to argue that quite a lot of what you've written is flat-out wrong I'm afraid. While Iceland's ancient Allthing is absolutely interesting it was never any more than an aristocratic democracy, at best. Chieftains (read: powerful farmers) and clans owned their scrap of land and voted on their interests. Women in norse societies had the ability to own property (though they would often have to fight for it or hand it over to their sons, if they were widows) by the merit that there were no laws actively forbidding them. They had no say in voting, however, as that was a predominantly clan affair. Women would get to vote for the first time in 1911. These clans would later consolidate power and by the turn of the 11th century most power rested in the hands of a few powerful chieftains (sturlungtiden) who then by year 1262 appealed to king Håkon Håkonsson to allow Iceland to be a part of the Norwegian realm as a dependency. Catholics and heathens co-existed solely because the Norwegian king Olav the Holy who sent missionaries there threatened with invasion if they (Icelanders) were to kill them. True, there were co-existence for a short while but by the time of Protestantism there were precious few pagans on Iceland. In fact when Snorre wrote his Poetic Eddas in the 12th century, Iceland was pretty staunchly catholic. Iceland was not officially annexed by the Norwegian Crown around 1776 (it was 1262), as the Norwegian Crown was at time under the Dano-Norwegian rule and after 1814 Norway was under the Swedish-Norwegian union, losing Iceland as its dependency to Denmark.
I know how floki is felling I am a proud Norse pagan and the gods have saved me from my old evil dark self Odin saved me from death last year and Odin and Thor told me turn my life around and ever since I have and thanks to the gods I am on a path to been a better man and I will always praise the gods for their kindness to me I have been a fully Norse pagan for the past 10 years but I the Odin and the gods first found me when I was 5 years old
Nope. Thor was very much the god of agriculture as well. Being the creator of thunder and rain, he was often preyed to by farmers hoping for good rains for their crops evolving into him being known as the god of farming
That is why they cant see it, because they weren't genuine about going with floki , only for personal gain
