As a software engineer, I feel this. We usually go through 4-6 interview stages for each company. Good luck, Julia! You absolutely got this! Both SQL and Python are very powerful languages to have a firm grasp on.
good luck everyone. i along with 4 others on my team, (and like 1000s others) are SWEs with like 8+ YOE. we got laid off in like... dec. we're fighting you guys for roles.
Great to give yourself some space for the job search and not feel "rushed". Obviously everyone's situation is different but I was laid off last year. A little further in my career in tech, at the Sr. Director level, but it was quite a shock. It was the first time in 20 years I didn't have a job. I gave myself 3 months off (severance). Gave me time to rethink what was important to me and my family. I started consulting. Interviewed for lots of roles but didn't find anything I really felt was right. So still consulting and working on starting my own business. It's a journey. Also, learn to love the power of "no". When you say "no" to something (a role that's a bad fit, etc) you are only eliminating 1 possible option. All the other options in the universe are still available to you. When you say "yes" to something you eliminate ALL OTHER options. So make sure the "yes" is something you really feel good about. Good luck!
Hey Julia~ best of luck on your job search! I already know you’ll land a job you love because you know what you want and it’s inspirational to see how you strive to go for it. You’re much younger than I am, but I think you just inspired me to review my database knowledge and update myself. Please keep the videos coming and I hope the next level interviews go well for you!
the fact that you're making information and methods about your role as a product data scientist accessible is so great! I definitely see you in a leadership role where you teach a course or offer modules on the field of data science/tech in general
Love that you provided real, unsponsored resources that you personally use to study SQL and Python!! I'll need to learn some SQL for a new role so this will be so helpful, ty!
As someone who is in a job search for an entry-level data science position, I love the specific resources and tips you are giving out (what to focus on like pandas instead of general leetcode style question) and if you could do a whole video on that it would be even better. Stay healthy!
I mean..how??? the quality of the editing got me speechless..great timing between subjects, change of screens, even blurring people's faces at the coffee shop part...also all the informations you shared with us, with links in the description, this is amazing! Also, you're very fun, loved to know more about your routine! Thank you for this quality content!
I am a very casual SQL user for my job and i am on and off with studying more advanced concepts. I learned a bit of python too and started a personal project, but there's been no progress in a while. Life has gotten super busy and stressful for me recently, but this video has me inspired to get back at it!
Really enjoyed how specific you were in your studying process. I’m a chemical engineer so I don’t do any of this but it was super intriguing to see a different world. Good luck on your job search!
As a manager with 18 yrs experience with SQL I agree with her assessment of SQL interview knowledge: the most I would expect a candidate to know is the CTE. There are obviously much more advanced uses of SQL, even more advanced uses of the CTE, but advanced uses are something we should be able to teach OTJ, personal opinion.
Julia, i'm here to just let u know that you are my favorite youtuber. I am also studying python and sql. I've been watching your videos for quite a period and you inspire me a lot to be in this career path. I am still a beginner and trying to get into the job market so I wish the best for both of us!
Hi, I am changing my career from Mechanical Engineer to data analyst. Could you tell me what skills should I develop and what certificates need to land the first job? I am following python sql courses right now. Thanks in advance. @nickodell2318
Thank you so much Julia for sharing the Job Searching journey with us! I'm also searching for a data analyst role in Berlin. The tips you share are so valuable! Wish us good luck 🧡
i love your tech-heavy videos! it’s so interesting to see the specifics of what you did in your previous role. good luck on the job hunt! any company would be lucky to have you on their team :)
hi julia, thank you for this video. I lost my job a year ago and hav been struggling to land anything since, i'm trying to transition into a career in data analysis despite my old age of 32 as hard as it probably will be. However your videos have helpd me figure out where to start. Hopefully I wlil become someone as inpsiring as yourself in this journey and thank you for helping me stay motivated in this hard time. You'll definitely land that next dream position. Love your content!
Hi Julia! I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the realistic approach you took in discussing job searching. Your courage and honesty are truly inspiring. I’m confident that your content will inspire many others as well. Thank you!
I recently just went through a 2.5 month job search journey as a product manager (in nyc and was also full-time searching after taking a gap year!) There were soooo many stages for each of my interviews as well. Best of luck and you got this!!
These are so helpful, and thank you for providing the links! I'm not in the same niche, but SQL is required more often even if you're a content writer. Every piece of advice you give is really precious. I hope you're getting some well-deserved rest as well 💜
Great info! How you feel when you’re day is free and your friends are working is how some retired people feel but I’m so looking forward to retirement in a few years. I enjoy your Vlogs and think of me when I was in my 20s in New York if I would’ve stayed but decided to leave for a challenge in Puerto Rico. Your vlogs are for young and slightly older, starting careers and finishing them as well. Praying for you and your future. Your recipes look delicious.
Yay a new video! As much as I enjoy your increased posting frequency, I still pray and hope you land a great job soon haha. Good luck! (And thanks for the awesome job hunting tips!!)
Hey Julia! Hope you are doing well. I am a ML Research Engineer myself and have been watching your vlogs for the past couple of years. Your videos are so much peaceful that it becomes an addiction after a point. And the recent videos are so much relatable, specially this one. The perfect blend of tech+lifestyle vlog. So thankful to you for these vlogs! All the best for the next interviews!
From my experiences i can tell you that to get a good software engineering job , it atleast takes upto 4-6 months as per todays job scenarios but this timeline is not necessary for everyone . Good Luck :)
For more than three decades, American companies have outsourced a significant portion of their jobs to India. Currently, this issue is so pronounced that even top Computer Science graduates are struggling to find employment. Some have been out of work for over three years, while others are becoming elementary school teachers. Unfortunately, many Americans seem to lack awareness of this phenomenon.
Super helpful. I enjoyed learning sql and R. My only issue with coding is I feel like I easily forget things lol. Practice is definitely the way. I hope you find the perfect role for you soon!
watching this is so reassuring because I know you'll do great, and that you'll learn so much from these hard times-and so will the rest of us! also, your hair is amazing
Hi Julia! I just wanted to say that your videos inspire me a lot. I've been working as a data analyst for more than 3 years and recently finished a data science bootcamp. After being let go from my previous job, I'm currently looking for a new job as well. I really appreciate your tips and the resources you recommend for practicing SQL and Pandas, as these are indeed the main tools for us. Maybe we can connect one day! I wish you the best of luck 🤘🏼
Hey Julia! I'm currently studying Data Analytics and graduating in August this year. This video is so helpful and I'll definitely use your tips once I finish. Sending love from New Zealand xx
Really great video! I'm currently going through a similar experience as a Front End Engineer after being laid off a couple months ago. It's nice to see others dealing with the same things, I don't feel quite as alone in my experience now. Good luck on your interviews!
Been searching for a study plan and this video really helped me understand what i need to go through to really understand and get a grasp of a programming language
As always, wishing you the best in all your endeavors. I know you'll do just fine. Enjoyed Dr. Slump & currently impatiently waiting for each new episode of Queen of Tears to drop.
I am looking to get into data science with a background in IT, this video really helped in terms of resources to get started and a direction to take, so thank you very much for that!
SQL is probably one of the MOST important languages any data professional (whether or not you are data scientist) should learn. You can't do anything with data unless you can retrieve & manipulate it.
oh man, yeah. I got laid off last month. But yes, currently re-studying Python and SQL again (graduated from software developement last year in August, but haven't quite done much after). Will check out your videos soon.
Thanks for all the SQL resources! I’ve been using W3 schools for a while but haven’t gotten much out of their practice problems. Good luck with the job hunt!❤ (coming from one tech person to another 😊)
Video idea alert, I love how you said you know what you want out of the job, what you want to do in the job and skills you want to either use or skills you want to gain. Can you do a video on the skills you have vs what you want to expand on the job, how you know exactly what job you want and want to do on the job and even do a interview scenario of the answers and questions you face on interviews and how you answer them? I am in marketing and I know its board but I usually apply to social media roles or digital marketing roles ( this role you need more SEO, Paid ads experience which I new at), but I think my issue is I dont know what I want, what industry I want t work in or what I want to do.. At this point I want a job lol, but I would love some advice or how you figured out what you want in a job and what company/industry you want to work for
Thanks for sharing your resources. I've been wanting to improve my tech skills. And the pork recipe I'm super excited for it. Best of luck on landing your next role. I'm sure it will come so enjoy your free time and friendships!
Hey Julia. Love your videos! Thank you for sharing your job search journey. I’d love to hear more about A/B test resources from you. Thanks! Keep it up.
as a front-end developer facing the same issue. it's been two years graduated still hunting for a good job, and sometimes become so depressed, and exhausted but what else can do!
I am also in New York and looking for a new job. I am currently employed though. You're right. The interviewing cycle for tech positions is brutal. Moreover, for every company the kind of preparation needed is different. For the last two months I've just been focusing on preparing for Meta, and I still don't feel confident. After this I'll try for other companies like Google, which will have it's own prep. The HR/Recruiter call ALWAYS goes well though! Haha. They are the best. Anyway, good luck. I cannot get myself to quit my job and look for a new one. So I mostly spend nights and weekends in preparing.
Ty gorgeous girl for taking the time. You are so sweet at teaching and getting the feeling across. Don't give up, which I think you won't, otherwise, you will demoralize me on the quest to continue🤗.
Hy Julia I'm glad to see you again studying data base for new career. I hope, to find a new job where you feel fulfilled and where you can advance step by step. I Wish good LUCK!!!!
thanks julia for sharing the prep material that you are using for your job hunt. also plz share material using for statistics , ML DL also. all the best

As a software engineer, I feel this. We usually go through 4-6 interview stages for each company. Good luck, Julia! You absolutely got this! Both SQL and Python are very powerful languages to have a firm grasp on.
getting interview number 1 is the hardest part! Tech employers with unrealistic expectations of every single job is annoying asf.
good luck everyone. i along with 4 others on my team, (and like 1000s others) are SWEs with like 8+ YOE. we got laid off in like... dec. we're fighting you guys for roles.
Making a note to start with "my expertise is in..." before diving into the details of my experience. So smart.

I can be her first whyte friend.

Since it's youtube..

Really liked the video. Thought it would be like those day in life, but actually contains some good technical tips.

Love the study process, thanks for sharing ... looking forward to more & G'Luck with new job 💕
You are amazing! You will get a job and enjoy it. You will look back on this process and grow as an individual.
I almost completed a course over Udemy for SQL and started with SQL 50 over LeetCode, currently just started doing 5 questions per day(same pinch).
