Hearing all this just made me wonder how involved in Tommy was starting up things like Video games live. I believe in Tommy's statement about people telling him they would believe things like that wouldn't be successful ( since gaming wasn't as mainstream then), but business wise how involved was Tommy lol. He seems to be okay from a creative perspective, but I just can't see him doing the behind the scenes business stuff with how he ran the Amico lol.
Is it really a scam when you don’t have to put any money down for a preorder though?

Declaring bankruptcy requires a legitimate business to exist to begin with as it requires you to open the books to the courts. It is much safer to just close the doors and stop existing.

I've always had the same impression Pat and Ian have also said in the past about this whole thing: I don't feel it started out that way, their original intention probably was to actually put out the console, but over time they were in over their heads due to terrible business mismanagement and they wouldn't admit to it out of sheer hubris.
Tommt started lying on day 1 though. Thats what makes it an investment scam, even if he thought he would make a console.

I believe there was a bonafide idea at first, but it quickly became apparent that launching a console is far more complicated than anyone at Intellivision ever imagined. Tommy Tallarico has never even published an indie game, and he wanted to jump straight in to making a game system? Who thought that was going to work? When it became clear that no venture capitalist would fund the thing, it became all about dollar chasing to stay afloat, with Intellivision making bolder and bolder claims to attract someone, anyone, and making it "us vs them" to embolden his PR team of small youtuber hacks. Overpromise, underdeliver, mismanage, abuse of funds, everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong. And no, they can't use the pandemic as an excuse. The Atari VCS, the Playdate, the Evercade Vs, Switch OLED, Xbox and Playstation consoles all released during the pandemic. I sympathize with the investors and preorder customers, especially as they're all getting the silent treatment now, but can't help but slap my forehead at the small retro youtubers who were taken in by a charismatic salesman with a fancy car. Really guys? A ride in the Ferrari is all it took?
His Ferrari isn't even the best model. If he had a Dino...even then I wouldn't fall for it, I know a huckster, scammer, snake oil salesman, when I see one!
Damn, worst case scenario. Always thought this thing looked lame, but I thought it would at least be released and enjoyed by a small audience. Not even that. Bummer, especially for those who lost money.

I literally just heard about this after coming across information for Earthworm Jim 4. I was really excited to hear that this series was getting a reboot but now it seems like they used an awesome show and games name to boost interest in this scam. Wow I remember when Tommy Tallarico was considered credible in the gaming industry.

Damn Tommy Tallarico really trashed his life’s work. He will only be remembered for this. Not Video Games Live or the music for Earthworm Jim, MDK and countless other masterpieces.
I'm low-key happy that this iteration of Earthworm Jim 4 isn't coming out because Jim will eventually return and I didn't want it to be this version.
The most disappointing thing about this whole fiasco is that Tommy killed the AtGames Intellivision Flashback 2 (which looked great) by cramming this clown-show vanity project down everyone’s throat.
Face it, ATGames is a scam, too. Half-assed ports with half-assed audio, half-assed graphic capability, sluggish gameplay on their mobile versions, shitty manufacturing, etc.
@@typoking Only some minis are bad, a lot of their HD stuff are getting better. Their arcade lineup are good and their retro dongles are fun, only thing I don't like about them is their false advertising on their package. With a lot of their retro blast dongle, they tend to put the arcade version screenshots in the box but the actual dongle only had the NES or home versions of em, same with the AtGames Sega Genesis products. On the AtGames Sega Genesis that I own, on the box it shows the arcade screenshots of the three Mortal Kombat games but when you play it, it's just the Genesis versions. They could had easily included the hack versions of these MK games as fan remade them to be closer to the arcade games just that they had uglier graphics but nope they prefer the old vanilla version which are worst.
It may be hard to prove it was a purposeful scam and not just sheer incompetence on display. It would take interviews with the former C-Suite to see what they knew and when. Did they honestly believe they were getting a product out the door and just grasping at whatever straws they could because they didn't know how or was there never a real push to put out a product?
Definitely sheer incompetence. Nobody on their board has any clue of the manufacturing process I'm sure for electronic devices for one thing, and the crazy compensation for everyone working there which makes no sense because they believe they deserve it.
The people who were actually working on making the OS and devices should be paid reasonably for their knowledge, but the board? Why?!?

That is completely separate from if they thought they would get a console out. They lied about staff, even the early specs, how far they were in development and so on.

A thing I was most curious about the Amico is who exactly was the system designed for? Designing a system to play retro arcade games, yet every single console and pc can do the exact same thing. Same bullcrap about pandering to nostalgia, yet older gamers have the indie scene, as well as other companies reviving old classics. Old hat, even if it was coming out, who the hell cares.

It has never been clear who exactly it is for. Retro gamers? Family? Casuals? Between Atari Recharged, Switch Sports, and Clubhouse Games, everything the Amico claims to want to do is done better on the Switch. But of course it's those pesky porn games /s.
I think this really appealed to older dads of younger kids who hate the modern world (the type who say "you can't joke about anything anymore") and fell in love with the idea of forcing their kids to play on a system with only physical games and no downloads "like we used to". It was never about what the system could do but what it couldn't do, and the ability to force their children to play it
When can we start the investigation to see if he is even a game music composer? Considering he's lied about all of this other shit so far, I have no reason to believe he is capable of making music. When someone falls this far, I would need proof of absolutely anything he says. There is no recovering from this level of falsehood. Ever. No excuses. These weren't just a few bad decisions... this was purposeful deceit.
I would call it incompetence until I found out that they paid themself 100k a year and some even more. they all cashed in on investors without creating something in the end- and getting 100-150k yearly beat being unemployed so many seemed to have kept up the charade at the company - none of them seemed speak up when Tommy kept delaying a product at the last minute which they sure as hell knew was never close to being finished or hitting those aim release dates.

My assumption is that the "angel investor" was just someone who was interested at a cursory glance, and then ran a mile once they saw the full details.
That's the most benefit of the doubt I can give them.
Looking back at the Neil Patel pitch video it did become a scam. Using lies about your company to solicit investors for money. I'm talking especially the mention of J Allard and Cara Acker when they were no longer involved, and also those weird sales projections. Right now the company is still technically operating, but once it ends, if investors lose money because they followed some lies that were presented as true, I believe that counts as securities fraud.

I was wondering when someone would spill the details on the garbage truck on fire that is the Intellivision Amico. Pat, Ian you both were right about this from the get go. If we are all honest with each other, the moment Tommy Tallarico opened his mouth the endeavor entered scam territory. How anyone would believe that man is beyond me. It appears as if gaming's Theranos/Wework/Fyre Fest, is finally winding down. I can't wait for that victory lap. I kind of want this saga to become its own omnibus so others can learn about this absolute disaster. But seriously, can't wait for that victory lap video. It will be EPIC.

It’s been an obvious scam for a while - I’ve been surprised at how long you’ve continued to talk about the Amico as a project mismanaged by incompetence rather than an outright scam.
I think they tried to about saying it's a scam because there is always a chance it could come out and they would take shit about it for years so they were safely giving it a chance out of what if. But now that we're balls deep in this chapter, it's now fair to call it that and even if it does come out, you can argue that it looks like it wasn't.

Myself and my Friend got out end of January / Early February. Refund was sent via PayPal. After the news broke that Tommy was no longer the CEO we were like WTF time to nope out.
Unfortunately I wasn't that lucky. Asked for a refund twice via email in March (no answer) and then disputed it through credit card company but it was 700+ day (back in 2020) so they couldn't dispute it.

Tommy came over to my house in his Lamborghini with an Amico just for me. He made it out of bark and leaves, but the LEDs look great and it's the centerpiece of my living room. I live in a cardboard box, and I think the bark and leaf Amico offsets the brown of the walls really well.
The controller kinda sux though. It's made out of uncooked pasta glued together, and the wheel is made out of a piece of salami. All the possums in my neighborhood want to play with it, or eat it, I can't tell which.
Tommy is gonna come over later and he has this magic airplane glue that lets you talk to animals, so we're gonna use that to do market research with the possums and ax them what they like about the controller.
Tommy scammed the $17 million and doesn't have ONE SINGLE AMICO RETAIL UNIT TO SHOW FOR IT 🤣

If you google the amico they seem to have controlled bad press showing, it even has systems for sale from 2 different sites in europe on a panel to the right.
I grew up with the Intellivision and I was excited for the Amico. I am so glad that I never pre-order. These crooks don't deserve any money. I that they are held accountable.

I'm not sure if Ian was referring to my comment about StartEngine or someone else's, but StartEngine told me that Intellivision were the ones who cancelled the campaign.
But they said that no money was in escrow and is only charged upon a successful campaign, so the "investors" were basically just putting numbers into the website on a promise that they'd pay up if the campaign was successful. Intellivision could have pulled the money they did raise, apparently, but didn't (probably because they'd have been sued by those investors if they did and had nothing to deliver).

All Intellivision has to show with the Amico is I would say 4 to 8 units that work. Maybe 4 games that are playable. Other then that its a big nothing burger scam.
It's kinda sad since I would argue there is a market for something like the amino. It looked fun. Certainly not a primary system but something like a streaming box that played games that you could dip into and out of quickly... yeah, that'd be fun.

As far it becoming a scam goes, I think it became a scam a while ago. It became a scam after the 3rd time they tried to crowd fund and made only $58K. If you go back and watch the first video about you guys reporting on this it was pretty much "Tommy is a good guy, and I hope this succeeds, but i'm not sure it will." Nothing bad was said, but Tommy decided to be an asshole and everything bad that happens to him, he deserves worse. I hope he goes to federal prison here in the US or in Germany for fraud.
Amico was a joke from the start!! He bashed the crap out of the VCS and yet it's on the shelves being sold lol..... The interface of the Amico is also the worse interface I have ever seen. It reminds me of websites from the late 90's early 2000's when people loved globes as buttons. What a joke and Tommy is such a narcissist and extremely rude person.... He couldn't accept any form criticism and would basically yell at you if you said something he didn't like during his live streams. Atari's game E.T. is something I'd buy first over the Amico piece of garbage.

What should have been a simple retro mini console with the intellivision name slapped onto it snowballed into a complicated, over the top project. Shame for the folks out there that were really clamoring for one. I always root for the gamers out there. But this is something I think we all saw coming as far back as 2 years ago.
