I always felt Willie had a Lester Piggott shaped chip on his shoulder throughout his career but now the dust has settled and time has passed, he has come to terms with the fact he was up against a unique genius.
Piggott really did not get on with effervescent people. So he would have been very awkward or worse with Willie. Hence Willie's dislike of Piggott. However Piggott also admired dedication enormously and for Willie to come from a totally non racing background to become a great jockey must have taken great dedication. So I suspect Piggott disliked Carson but admired him.
I liked him at one time even was told to back him on a 8/1 shot at Royal Ascot 1981 by Sir Peter O Sullivan but to see him on video siding with Crook Graham bradley made me feel sick..

Willie is a good man but in the racing world if you are not tough you disappear. Willie is a nice man but being a jockey his guard always had to be up.

Dayjur was the greatest sprinter ever. If he hadn't jumped those shadows he would have won pretty easily.
