I'm getting ready to turn 60 years old. I've always been a much bigger fan of racing on turf than I am of racing on conventional dirt or synthetic surfaces, which is the reason I've followed the sport on a world wide basis for more than 30 years now, and I can't remember a more prolific sire in my lifetime than Galileo, at least as an influence for turf. He ran his last race ironically on dirt at Belmont in the 2001 Breeders Cup Classic and was sent off to Coolmore Stud in Ireland about as soon as he returned to Ireland from the states. So with 2002 as your reference point to start looking for his offspring, it won't take anyone long to see how incredible the overall number is of major stakes races all over the world that the sons and daughters of Galileo have dominated year after year.

People who like horse racing never ask themselves where the majority of those horses landing when they can’t generate money for their owner anymore ...... is simple those beautiful horses win a race or not they finish starving with no food or water with injuries and in the cruelty what involve slaughter houses. I wish those beautiful presentation horse Breeders shows to the media also can show the reality to where the majority of those poor animals ending.
I love horses and admire horse racing, love our little Australian mare Winx who’s just claimed her 30th consecutive win (I think). But.....I wish there was no such thing as yearling and 2 year old racing, they’re just too young
Frances Craft unfortunately they do race them as two year olds and the damage can be catastrophic. I’ve seen cannon bones explode out as they are pushed too hard too early. I’ve even seen one year olds saddled and tested. Just because they might not enter them in cash races doesn’t mean they aren’t racing them at dawn practice.
I meant to state that 1 year olds(yearlings) are not raced. Year-long spend the year learning and building muscle and stamina. Not sure how I feel about racing at 2 other than the fact that their ability at that age is a good gauge of how they pass on that ability to their offspring at least that is what breeders believe. I don't feel they should be racing in grade 1 races though. I think grade 1 races should be restricted to 3 and older.
Horses don't physically mature until age 5-7, depending on the horse. I'm sure to mature mentally takes just as long. Perhaps that's why we see so many racehorses who are hard to handle on a track-they are still too young, they are kids being told to do an adult's job, and they rebel against that. I've been told that its ok to race a two year old, as it aids in physical development (???) but I don't like it. How can it be good for a horse, whose bones and growth plates and soft tissues aren't done growing, to be racing, or even being asked to go full out in training? Horses this age should be in the pasture with other colts and fillies their own age, playing, learning herd manners, and being trained by humans to just behave around people, in the barn, for the farrier and vet. If horses were not raced until, at the very least, age 4, there would be fewer racehorses. Why? Because only the rich can afford racing-think of feed and vet costs, barn costs, training costs, travel expenses and more. Only the rich could afford to keep a horse in the pasture, until it was at least 4, before it begins to earn its keep. That would mean, fewer horses racing with unhealed injuries masked by painkillers, dropping in class until they are running over and over again in claiming races. Racing until they either break down and are euthanized, or are unable to race, and are sold to a kill pen, bound for a slaughterhouse in Canada or Mexico. Fewer racehorses, would mean fewer inbred animals. All racehorses are inbred, and dangerously so. Northern Dancer, for example, had weak ankles, and passed that to his progeny, simply because so many of his progeny had him as a grandfather on BOTH sides. Ruffian, who had Northern Dancer in her pedigree, had weak ankles, and look how she ended. All this inbreeding allows less dominant genes to come out, and unfortunately, those genes are often not good for the health of the horse-or any animal. Thoroughbreds inherit a tendency to not carry pregnancies to full term, resulting in weak foals or stillbirths. They inherit a tendency to weak joints. Or inherited diseases. Thoroughbred horses have not had an influx of fresh genetic material since the mid 1700's, wth the Byerly Turk and Godolphin Arabian. Maybe its time to reintroduce more Arab blood. Arabians have the reputation for good health, physical and mental toughness, and this is what the breed needs.
They have to race them young, as a colt gets older and he becomes sexually mature they’re not as effective on the race course. They’re are exceptions of course but in general this is the thinking. The lower graded horses are gelded and can race for years on the flat and over jumps. Yearlings don’t race.

I know Ashford Stud goes to Australia but do any of the other stallions from Australia and Ireland come here to the USA and breed or do Ashford just send them to Australia?
From what I saw in this video I have to disagree with you. First off they are using bridles not chains over the top gums like they do in the states so that is a big improvement. Have you ever handled horses? Especially stallions on a cool day? I also truly hate to see horses yanked around for no good reason but what I saw in this video is people just intelligently handling some quiet but also some hot horses. Thoroughbreds can be nuts and stallions can be very tricky so you need to know what you are talking about.
@@robertdelacy3434 Sorry, no. The Dancer would have been a successful sire without O’Brien. His FIRST crop of only 21 foals nevertheless produced a Canadian Horse of the Year, and nine others also became stakes winners, 47% of his crop. O’Brien had nothing to do with that. His second crop included Nijinsky, but also a filly who was Canadian Horse of the Year and co-champion three yearold filly in both Canada AND the USA. O’Brien had nothing to do with her, either. He was moved from Taylor’s stud farm in Canada to Maryland in 1968, not because of Nijinsky’s success ( he didn’t win the English Triple Crown until 1970) but because American breeders were already clamouring to use him. O’Brien helped, but he certainly didn’t need him.
Dorothy Buie The bit(in this case) isn't the problem. It is the jerking on the lead that is the problem. The bits are pain free and as some call "Place holders" because they are pretty much just a place holder. If the horse is upset by it I'm sure they would go bitless. Less stress = better breeding = more foals Less stres also = happy horse = happy visisters
I get its a industry at the end of the day (so there's a certain language used) and its clearly a very well run business but I don't get how these people can be so generalised in how they talk about the horses. There's no feeling of individuality or personality in the horses, they work with them all day is there not more affection / knowledge of little unique traits? It feels slightly robotic and artificial in how they talk about these incredible creatures.
@ Megham Draws - if you spent time with these people at the studs you'd realise that there are amazing bonds between the animals and the humans. It's just very hard to convey that in a small time window like this video. If someone came to your town with a video camera and said you have a few minutes to summarize the type of people who live in the area, it would be very hard for you to convey much about single individuals wouldn't it.
I can tell only a select few know what they are talking about. #1. Whether you like the Shiek or not, he has great horses. Mainly because he realized Nearco, N.D's sire was the best and for generations to come. Besides for a select few like Roberto, Intentional, Princequillo and just a few more. Reading most comments have a common theme tone, I hear about Trump coming from the crooked criminal left. Trump could lay a golden egg under a money tree and all you would hear from the Bullshiff show is Impeach 45, impeach 45. Always points to jealousy.
Stallions are powerful animals and can bite in a split second. The handlers need to be safe and walking a horse of this calibre in a natural horsemanship rope halter would be down right dangerous. These horses aren't children's ponies and although l don't agree with the yanking on the bit l do agree with having a bit in the horses mouth.
Wow, it doesnt matter id its a stallion or mare or gelding, if you can't deal with any stallion without a bit, your not a true equestrian. Do you watch thinklikeahorse? you should.
xBubblegumEditsx you judge my experience of horses without knowing me. l would love to see you lead a breeding stallion around in a rope halter. l know someone just like you that does all that horse manship rubbish and has had many an accident and injury because of it, like being air lifted to hospital. l never said yanking on tne horses mouth was acceptable in fact l hate it l was pointing out that stallions need to be dealt with carefully.
ok. none of them are brutal monsters. also, do you truly believe a horse ripped a womans thoat out? isn't that a.. um MEAT EATER thing? Horses can change their diet, but they're primary herbivores. And WHY would a HORSE RIP OUT a womans THROAT?
xBubblegumEditsx. im sorry you dont believe that a horse couldn't do such a thing but it wasnt done for food it could have been her arm or another part of her that just were she was bitten. Horse cruelty is horrendous and lt mskes me cry when l see ot hear about it. A mare tbat l know is being dealt with by a horse welfare charity due to neglect and it breaks my heart to see it. Unfortunately horsed are neglected in all areas of the horse world not just horse racing. l will find tbe article and let you know where to find it so you can read about yourself as you seem to think lm making things up.😩

Why don't you do a special on Coolmore's use of one basher and two trappers during a race? The "Box em' in and fill the field with as many nags as possible" tactic is the stuff of infamy!!
Both. Coolmore is ultimately a business. But you wouldn't believe the time, money and care that is put into these horses by the staff, trainers and riders that care for them daily
An abused animal is one that isn't producing. I wish people understood that it's bad business to mistreat an animal. That's ignoring the fact the the vast majority of people who work with them do so because they are passionate about the animals and love them
No matter how much they “love” these horses, money and profit is always the bottom line. Who knows how many blood horses end up abused, broken and sent to slaughter each year. Thousands and thousands. Overbreeding world wide for greed is horrendous.
Breeding is a fickle business... it amazes me that dream ahead couldn’t buy a cover... when he’s more of an out cross than pride of Dubai, a better race horse and a group one producing sire..
Too many racehorses exist. The ones who are successful, often have wonderful retirements, siring more racehorses, or bearing the next generation. After their reproductive years are done, they spend their time in paddocks, with other retried mares and geldings. But the ones who don't deliver the goods on the track, may, if they are lucky, end up in 2nd careers, as jumpers, trail horses, pleasure riding horses, or even just regarded as pets, and rarely ridden again. Those who aren't lucky, go through owner after owner, first on the track, where they go down in class for a few years, until they run in claiming races. Then, when they are truly played out, they get sold, for mere dollars, to a kill shelter, and end up on someone's plate. The majority of racehorses do not get cushy retirements. They get cruelty, and a shockingly cruel end.
Yea I'm sure those two horses have been elated to have been Broken by you go on have great racing careers to come back to see the guy who broke them with his rough hand chucking on that stallion chain with a bit in there mouth, things have changed we don't have to lead any horse with a bit & there's a different way natural horsemanship, if urgent chucking that chain that much to get his head up, my stallion tb walks with me everywhere without a lead he is doing liberty (look it up) he raced placed 1st in his first race on the curragh & 2nd in naas but was sold intire to a guy who had no clue he was a 2 year old, I got him for under 500 quid the guy was so scared of him, saddles Wells is his great grandfather he is stunning... Stop the old ways of breaking & controling horses try have a partnership, & he doesn't have to live in a stable hardly ever.... Stop the cruelty of race horses. All horses
They don't care about the horses, they care about the cash they bring in. Don't waste your breath telling all of us how much better of an equestrian you are than us. Unless you have been on the other end of a 1500# Steroid filled TB that is only handled only to run, you don't know what you're talking about.
catherine donoghue I agree. Every TB handler just constantly yanking on the chains. Even when the horse is not moving. It drives me crazy and I’m sure drives the horses crazy. No wonder so many TB stallions are mean.
im not sure he would care too much, hes had plenty success as well and more money than coolmore could ever hope for. would he swap it all for a sadlers wells or galileo? not sure he would.
@@sq6529 Well if you new horses as well as you seem to think you do ,you would not even consider sending a horse to slaughter But they are just things to you like a couch or some other furniture but these animals do feel unlike your self
I can ensure you that slaughter is frowned upon and its always the owners and trainers interest in giving the horses the best treatment. Whether jts to give them more time, sell them due to them not coping with training or retirement. Of course, the BBC did find that horse slaughter was continuing last year in 2021 but legislations came in to stop that. I can also tell you if anyone was found doing it they would immediately be kicked out of raci g
Why do they need so much control of the horses? You don’t need to have them on a bit all the time with chain! The horses start reading and become frustrated because they keep wiggling the lead. The horse will walk if you let it omfg.
How many working breeding thoroughbred stallions have you led? Any one could and would toss you into the roof of a barn or over it. If you were lucky he wouldn't stomp you under his sweet little toes.
You know almost as much as a squirrel. Those are working breeding stallions. They don't want to be controlled. Sorry, but for you to learn that we would just have to let you attempt to breed a tbred.
These stallions are encouraged for being aggressive and are highly resistant to their handlers. The bit is for the handlers and for the horses safety so they decide not to drag their handler, especially if there’s a mare in heat nearby.

Thoroughbreds can be nuts and stallions can be very tricky so you need to know what you are talking about.
really enjoyed watching this......coolmore are a awesome professional outfit...from top to bottom.
Have a read of The Black Horse Inside Coolmore ( William Jones ) . It may just change your mind.

Awesome
They owe all their success to E,P,Taylor and the greatest sire of the 20th century Northern Dancer
They owe it to Vincent obrien
@@robertdelacy3434 O’Brien would have been nobody without Northern Dancer.
@@Roheryn100 who do you think found northern dancer progeny an start using it in europe he made northern dancer
@@Roheryn100 if you read it I said in Europe without him buying nijinsky he would just been a dirt stallion
He is one handsome boy
RIP Champion
We share the same birthday
Rip Galileo. He was a great racehorse and so was sadlers Wells ik I'm late to say Rip Galileo but anyway xD
Lovely 🤓🗝️🐎🥰😜🥰
Galileo is a handsome sire❤️❤️❤️❤️ Does he have bloodlines of Man O War?
No. Google his pedigree.
10:31 Is that Pride of Dubai?
Yes
Those Northern Dancers are instantly recognizable by their body type.
why do they keep the bits in the horses mouth while they is walking them
Dorothy Buie It is a style. It is like putting a spiked collars on a dog that has no need for such a collar.
Okay thanks, that's a stupid style
Dorothy Buie Yeah.
I understand if the horse was frisky or was a bit seeker... But he appears to be as laid back as an old gelding.
Yes that's true, and im sure That there's another way of doing it.the bits seems to make them move around to much
Dorothy Buie
The bit(in this case) isn't the problem. It is the jerking on the lead that is the problem.
The bits are pain free and as some call "Place holders" because they are pretty much just a place holder. If the horse is upset by it I'm sure they would go bitless.
Less stress = better breeding = more foals
Less stres also = happy horse = happy visisters
Hard to please everyone 😇

Do you watch thinklikeahorse? you should.
xBubblegumEditsx
you judge my experience of horses without knowing me. l would love to see you lead a breeding stallion around in a rope halter. l know someone just like you that does all that horse manship rubbish and has had many an accident and injury because of it, like being air lifted to hospital. l never said yanking on tne horses mouth was acceptable in fact l hate it
l was pointing out that stallions need to be dealt with carefully.
That doesn't mean you need a bit in his mouth at all times.
ok.
none of them are brutal monsters.
also, do you truly believe a horse ripped a womans thoat out? isn't that a.. um MEAT EATER thing?

Horse farrier job replay May
so.. do they actually have any compassion for these animals or is this more like a racing/breeding business
Both. Coolmore is ultimately a business. But you wouldn't believe the time, money and care that is put into these horses by the staff, trainers and riders that care for them daily
An abused animal is one that isn't producing. I wish people understood that it's bad business to mistreat an animal. That's ignoring the fact the the vast majority of people who work with them do so because they are passionate about the animals and love them
They are Family to guys who work there! I was lucky to meet Galileo oct 2019💪 what a Gentleman!
Coolmore -The Best 👍👍👍👍👍
no idea why this autoplayed after a single minute American comedy sketch hahaha
I went to coolmore I met galleo
No matter how much they “love” these horses, money and profit is always the bottom line. Who knows how many blood horses end up abused, broken and sent to slaughter each year. Thousands and thousands. Overbreeding world wide for greed is horrendous.
How ending up at killing place mares and foals 😭😭😭
A lot to do with the limestone land that Ireland has, great for raising top class racehorses and breeding top class racehorses.
Galileo = the Stu Hart of racehorses.
its the same with most men it would be good food and good sex thats the life !! personality make the horse and also looks
@Stephen Bidgood Yes it is
Karen Baker talking crap probably knows nothing about horse racing but listens to the ante racing fanatics

Nice to name a great stallion cucumber(?) translated Gurkha in swedish. 😜
It's named after the Gurkha warriors from Nepal. Some of the best soldiers in history.

You’ve never heard of Gurkhas ?
Galileo is my racehorse uncle
Should be spicy best of luck with him/her
Yea I'm sure those two horses have been elated to have been Broken by you go on have great racing careers to come back to see the guy who broke them with his rough hand chucking on that stallion chain with a bit in there mouth, things have changed we don't have to lead any horse with a bit & there's a different way natural horsemanship, if urgent chucking that chain that much to get his head up, my stallion tb walks with me everywhere without a lead he is doing liberty (look it up) he raced placed 1st in his first race on the curragh & 2nd in naas but was sold intire to a guy who had no clue he was a 2 year old, I got him for under 500 quid the guy was so scared of him, saddles Wells is his great grandfather he is stunning...

Every horse is a good slaughter horse in the racing industry
@@sq6529 Well if you new horses as well as you seem to think you do ,you would not even consider sending a horse to slaughter But they are just things to you like a couch or some other furniture but these animals do feel unlike your self
What are you talking about?
I can ensure you that slaughter is frowned upon and its always the owners and trainers interest in giving the horses the best treatment. Whether jts to give them more time, sell them due to them not coping with training or retirement.
Of course, the BBC did find that horse slaughter was continuing last year in 2021 but legislations came in to stop that. I can also tell you if anyone was found doing it they would immediately be kicked out of raci g

Effe O just think of it as you are pouring half a glass of wine into an Olympic swimming pool of water. That is how much of pride of Dubai's blood.
Was I the only one that took a screen shot of the up view of the farm so I could copy it on minecraft? Ya? Just me..
I’ll go home
Why do they need so much control of the horses? You don’t need to have them on a bit all the time with chain! The horses start reading and become frustrated because they keep wiggling the lead. The horse will walk if you let it omfg.
How many working breeding thoroughbred stallions have you led?
Any one could and would toss you into the roof of a barn or over it. If you were lucky he wouldn't stomp you under his sweet little toes.
The big scam
Why does the halter have a bit? OH MY GOD! There is no need for a bit at all, at any time. Poor horses. I know I wouldn't want a bit in my mouth.
You know almost as much as a squirrel. Those are working breeding stallions. They don't want to be controlled. Sorry, but for you to learn that we would just have to let you attempt to breed a tbred.
It's not a halter. It's an in-hand show bridle. My wife has one for our mini stallion, but she rarely uses it. She opts for a show halter.
These stallions are encouraged for being aggressive and are highly resistant to their handlers. The bit is for the handlers and for the horses safety so they decide not to drag their handler, especially if there’s a mare in heat nearby.
