I agree. Ive had my daughters in some of my videos, and some times you get "that guy" who just has to come and shit all over you for having your kid int he video. There are some heartless people out there that just cant stand the sight of a kid in a video like this. Good job involving your son Nate. I hope he grows up to be a proper gearhead.
@@DirtLifestyle man I wish my dad got me in the shop sooner like you’ve been doing! I didn’t tear my first head off until I was 12 and didn’t tear my first transmission out till I was 17. You’re freaking awesome Nate!
As a dad of two 13 year olds, an 11 and a 10 year old I love seeing you bring your boy out. A few of my flock have taken an interest here and there and its worth it to slow down and show them the way.
I'm 31 and the girl I'm trying to get with has 3 little ones and the 2 older ones love to work on things with me when I come and work on her vehicles they are my buddies for working on anything
Total respect Nate, I was your son’s age when I started working on engines with my dad. If someone is distracted by a child then they may not be a parent. Great job with the family
My 14 years old daughter is following the track of her older brothers. This summer, she began to go under the Jeep and learn about maintenance and mechanical stuff! She like that a lot!
Nate, your channel combines all my favorite elements. Adventure, fabrication, mechanics, and most importantly family. It's great seeing your son work with you in the shop.
Nate, great to see a Dad investing in his son. As someone who got to spend a lot of time with his Dad and Grandfather working on mechanical stuff, I promise that time and experience is priceless. My daily is a Jetta TDI, so I am excited to see where this build goes, keep up the good work.
1. I went to college to get the education this kid is getting during preschool. 2. Keep him in it. Its inspiring. My boy, at 4 months, pulled the gear wrench a few times while i clocked a turbo. He loves the ratchet sound. Great channel, its a breath of fresh air compared to the big diesel channels.
Love you having your son out in the shop! As a dad of an almost 4 year old I'm reigniting my off roading hobby as something to share with him so this totally appeals to me. My boy loves helping work 🤣 n stuff and really loves the light off roading he's done with me. Keep up the awesome videos and above all else do you.
So cool you get your son in the garage. My son was always complaining when I asked him to come help and now he loves it. Wish more parents would do this. 👍
I get both my son and daughter in the garage with me and I always put the tools in their hands I definitely don’t find it destructive I find it awesome show them it’s on to get their hands dirty
Hey Nate, glad to see you teaching your son! Love that you include him in the video, he's not a distraction at all! Gotta remember, these little guys are our future, it's awesome to see you teaching him right! Also, I'm super excited about this build and where the TJ is heading! I was thinking the high power diesel was slated for the Gladiator? What's your plans with it now?
Don’t ever apologize for being on a budget, we all have a budget to work with. It’s great to learn what can be done on a real world budget. Your real world approach is why we subscribe to this channel, and that’s what we appreciate about your content. I am not a VW guy but I like unique, so I’m excited for a Frankenstein motor.
As a father myself. I find the inclusion of your son AWESOME! I try to include mine in as much as I can. He's a fast learner and super fun to be around. These are the times that matter most to them and memories they will have forever.
It's awesome you're getting your son involved, I'm sure he's telling everyone how he helped dad take apart an engine. I have a 1yr old son and can't wait till he's old enough to start working in the garage with me. I'm looking forward to this high horsepower build.
Love seeing your son with you, my old man always had me in the shop and I helped him rebuild his Chev when I was 4. Probably the reason why I am as involved with automotive stuff today. I tdi swapped my 4runner just to prove to him that I picked some stuff up when I was younger
Love adding in the next gen of gear heads to the addiction. You're doing that dad thing just right. Keep it up. He'll remember these times with you for years to come.
As a Father myself, I agree with Matt Conroy. Kids aren’t a distraction. We need to pass on our information to the next generation of enthusiasts. I say enthusiasts, because no matter what your hobby or profession we need to get the younger generation into it and know about it, for it to carry on in the future. Thank you Nate for all your great content. Keep showing and teaching that little man everything you know. Also if your daughter is interested in it do the same with her. My girls want to go and do everything that I do. They are a little young yet for the hunting stuff, but they have been off-roading since before they were born. Six months after they were born they started riding with my wife and I on the trails and the dunes.
Love seeing the little ones involved. I heard a few years ago, " take your kids hunting and you won't have to hunt for your kids ", I think this can apply to almost anything that you are doing. Great job Dad
My son used to watch me work on my rigs and even his first car. I finally realized that I wasn't doing him any favors by fixing his stuff. I backed off, but am always available for questions and showing him some tips and tricks. He swapped his rear end in his samurai last year, and now he does his own work. I was surprised how knowledgeable he was after I took a step back. Having kids watch and just generally be involved in repairs not only helps us bond, but their brains soak up information like a sponge. Start them young and watch in amazement at what you have created.
You can definitely still buy magnetizers. Awesome seeing you get your son in the shop with you and pass down some knowledge. Memories you both will treasure.
Family FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!! I admire and respect that man...Thanks for doing this for the next generation. I try to do this with my 6 year old daughter too.
as someone who loves jeeps( I used to have an 81 CJ-7) and who was huge in the early TDI game(I have an '06 Golf TDI) and have personally worked with Matt Whitbread on a fab build for TDIs. I can tell you he is an absolute magician with the TDI engine. I have driven in one of his early twin turbo tdi builds in an old 96 passat wagon, that thing scared the bejeezus out of me it was soo strong. you have the best parts with the best fabricator out there. you have done your research and i applaud your for your great research. love this build as the TDI engine it a powerhouse.
The time you can spend with your kids teaching them the better. Watching you and your son is far from distracting. After my son lost his son at 2 years old, it warms my heart to see parents spending every possible minute with their children. Look forward to meeting y’all somewhere in the future.
I agree with all the support for having your son in the shop with you. I would only add, never let being effecient stop you from working with your kids. It might take five times longer but it will be 1000 times more rewarding. The time spent now will come back around when they are older. Plus you will never look back and think man I wish I had done more builds but my son slowed me down. You only have 18 years until they are on their own spend every minute with them.
Great to hear you chose compounds. They really help off idle creating power down low. So excited for this series. I think it's super cool you share your knowledge with your son and don't mind it st all.
You’re damn right Nate! You’re a good man and a great father. We need the next generation to know these things and pass them on. Screw what anybody else thinks about it.
Two thumbs on seeing your son in the shop with you. Adds another angle to your vids. Have 2 tdis one is Malone tuned straight piped it pulls our sweet dirtbikes to MI. So waaay into this build. Yes ID parts is the best!
My dad just bought a (de)magnetizer from Amazon, used it for some RC car drivers. He was always busy "making the money" but I remember when we first started working on engines together (go-kart my friend pulled out of the creek). He showed me how to lap valves etc. So good on you for giving you kid a head start! Be a cool dad and get him a minibike when he inevitably wants one lol. Best way to let a kid to learn engines is when their minibike isn't working (or is not fast enough) 😉 when all they want to do is ride. I couldn't fix a bicycle chain (had no desire to) before I got the minibike that I learned how to turn a wrench on.
No sir! Never a distraction. Don't ever say that. Those memories are the ones that get you through the hard times. Take a picture. Put in black and white. Magical. My hat is off to you.
It's a great thing to show your kids about engines and other automotive things. I started learning at the age of 4. Lots memories from having your son in the video my stepfather showed me mechanics ..I value your channel. It's our job as parents to pass on the every day skills and both of my son's are getting every thing I know. Your awesome Nate.
Speaking of passing on information to your family. Taught all of my daughter's how to check your vehicle's. To this day they are still learning. Asking me about a noise they hear and want my ear. Now my 5 year old grandson is my tail. When I'm getting my boots on. Where are you doing today grandpa? Are you staying home or going to work? If I tell him I'm staying home. He is all excited and then comes. What are you doing today and can I help? If I have a simple project. I will lay out tools we need and I let him tackle it. I have a magnet tray we he removes a part to keep track. His older brother is also helping. Even when I slide under my truck. He will slide under and asks. What you fixing grandpa? What's this do grandpa? Lots and lots of questions. I don't mind. It makes my whole day to have them by my side. I will never get the chance again. ❤
I don't know about any body else but I think it's great that your willing to teach your son things like this. My dad never could work on cars but I was lucky in that I had 2 uncles that let me learn from them. Good job dad....
I love that you had you son in the shop. Many years ago my dad and grandfather did the same. I learned skills that have lasted a lifetime. Your son will to.
One thing I caught myself doing at work since being remote for years (even before Covid) was to say “sorry I was…”. After thinking about it for a split second the 3rd or 4th time I said it, I realized I wasn’t sorry one bit. Time with our kids is some of the most valuable time we would never get back, glad your son is interested in learning what you know!
It's awesome to see your son working & learning with you. For me, there is no greater joy in life than working on a project with my now 31 year old son. Believe me, the years go by very quickly & the memories created sometimes bring tears of joy to me. Thank you for sharing such a great video.
Love seeing your son and love all the comments encouraging you to include your son. I have two boys, 8 and 2. Both are in the garage with me too. It’s slower work but the memories are something I will cherish forever.
My favorite statement from a UA-cam channel build: “What I’m saying is that there’s a limitation to our budget.” So nice to see something realistic for once.
I honest love seeing you as a dad. My father was a very abusive person when I was a child he taught me about tools but didn’t bother teaching my about cars. I learned it all on my own now me and him have a great relationship and although I don’t want children I appreciate good dads raising men and not boys.
Great to see you sharing time with your son! My dad was a master mechanic but refused to share his skill unless it was to late, had 6 months left after he was diagnosed with cancer.
@@DirtLifestyle thank you, it's been many years. Even if it would be something useless, it's time shared with purpose and meaning and memories. Once it's over, it's over... Time is limited.
Seeing your son working the power tools with you as you explain what you are doing makes my day. Brings me back to myself and my dad wrenching back in the day and makes me super excited to have these experiences with my son (hopefully lol) sometime soon. Thank you for sharing this Nate.
Thanks for including your son! I wish my 15 year old son showed more interest in getting hands on with car maintenance and repairs. My 13 year old daughter on the other hand loves to tag along and help!
Love that fact your son is helping and learning. I'm a diesel mechanic for a living and my 3 year old helps me, and it's so funny when he identifies parts correctly in front of other adults lol
I do the same thing with my son just like my Dad did with me. I love that my dad did that with me. just like you said pass all that knowledge on and give me life skills that I have today to take on what I need to get done.
Thank you Nate for always posting the best content on UA-cam. I love working on my own vehicles and learning as I go, also my first born son will be here at the end of November. You are an inspiration sir.
Being a father of a 21yr old and a 24yr old... I can say that you should spend every second you can with your kids. I learned to enjoy every stage of their lives as they grew up and now we are just as close as when they were young.
This is the way I learned as a kid. I was right there with my dad and my step dad. They both taught me a ton and I can say now that I’m a adult there isn’t anything I put my mind to that can’t be fixed. Hands is the way to go better than any piece of paper imo.
I like your discussion about teaching the next generation the skills that you have. That's almost an obligation of parenthood and I like that you promote that, even on this UA-cam channel speaking to an audience that may well include several dads. Keep it up. And thanks for sharing your videos on the TDI. I am learning a lot from you.
It is awesome that you are willing to share the shop time with your son. Envious. He will remember these moments for the rest of his life. Also totally pumped for the build. Agree with your thought process. Just get it done right the first time. Saweet. Peace ✌
You are 100% correct. Teach your son or daughter. Your videos are better with your son in them. I love to see that. I let my kids help me with whatever I was doing and I did that with my grandkids also.
As a guy who grew up being my dad's shadow when it come to basically everything automotive related or farm related. Your son will cherish the time you spend with him in the shop, as I'm sure you do to. I know some people might think of him as a distraction, but there intidled to their own opinions. Enjoy your time with your son, who knows, maybe we'll see him building killer rigs right along side you in the next few years
Awesome video and awesome your son is in the shop with you, wish i had someone to show me when i was little...thanks for the upload, and super cool project so far..:)
I have a whole new respect for you including Chris in the video. Being a Dad of 7, I can tell you it’s the greatest job and the hardest job ever! Thanks Nate 👍
I literally watched your first video on the bhw a year ago wanting to put one in my tj. Blew my motor in -50°c this winter and just picked up a BHW for myself yesterday! So excited to see this come back up on my feed!
I absolutely agree about the kids. I was like 9 or 10 a car needed a new water pump, he gave me the part showed me where it was what all I had to remove to get it off, said you know where the tools are, get it done. He had always had me & my lil brother helping on whatever project he was doing before that. I wouldn’t know 75% of the skills I have today if not for him doing that!!!
On a side note I screwed up with my 3 boys. I was always worried about them getting hurt (got the truck setting on jack stands doing whatever) that I didn’t teach them as much as my Dad did me. So they are in their 20’s now and I’m teaching them this stuff now
@Dirt Lifestyle I don't know how you grew up, but let me promise you that your son will never forget working in the garage with his dad. These moments were some of my best childhood memories and I'm sure that your son will think the same ✌
Awesome including your son, I do that with my almost 3 year old. I feel that it is important to include as much as I can, he absolutely love helping me! For the NOS, if you do a wet kit you have an injector just for the NOS. You wouldn't have to worry about under fueling like you do with a dry kit, using the engine injectors.
I have a factory 6 and I’m planning to go to an 8. Even though I will never build this I will be watching talk the episodes Nate. Great job man; especially with your son.
Loved having your son in there with you man! Also you deserve the sponsorships you get. I honestly want to sign up for patrons because with your channel I feel like it would actually go to AWSOME content and be used properly!
That's amazing .. keep your kid close by they are smart and learn quick. I keep my 6 year old around every time I do a project and I'm planning in doing so with my 2 year old as much as I can. Congrats 👏
I don't wanna be that guy... I hate being that guy... But I have to be that guy. Please for the love of God, get some safety glasses for your son. I absolutely love that you're sharing your knowledge to your son, and please, never, ever think that you including him in any of the videos or projects would be a distraction or an issue in any way. But please, glasses! I was around your sons age when I got shrapnel in my eye that to this day impedes my sight and kept me from joining the Airforce to become a pilot. Had I been wearing them I would have been fine. Continue the awesome content and by all means, teach your kid everything you can, I love it!
Not a distraction at all! Would love to see more of it too! My dad did the same for me when I was young, tore down an old sb 350 when I was 9 and that started it all! Can’t wait to do it with my future son. Great work Nate love the vids
Glad you are teaching Chris about building an engine. You don't do anything different than generations of craftsman that went before you. I hope Chris will be able to teach his son what you are teaching him. Good job dad.
Dude don’t ever say that your son would be a distraction. It’s awesome to see the new generations is the shops. Great job keep up the good work.

I learned it all on my own now me and him have a great relationship and although I don’t want children I appreciate good dads raising men and not boys.
Dope build. It's cool to see this being (re)built. Can't wait to see how slightly bent that con rod is
Great to see you sharing time with your son! My dad was a master mechanic but refused to share his skill unless it was to late, had 6 months left after he was diagnosed with cancer.
I'm very sorry to hear that! I think these are extra skills worth having and an easy way to bond with the family. Sorry for your loss
@@DirtLifestyle thank you, it's been many years. Even if it would be something useless, it's time shared with purpose and meaning and memories. Once it's over, it's over... Time is limited.
I really like that you brought your son in. Obviously he should be your priority. Parenting done right my friend!
Nate it is good to see kids getting their hand dirty. My son started at two he is now a mechatronics geek of the first order.
Lol nice!
Thank you Nate for always posting the best content on UA-cam. I love working on my own vehicles and learning as I go, also my first born son will be here at the end of November. You are an inspiration sir.
Thank you for the kind words and congratulations!!! Being a Dad of happy kids is the secret to a happy life 🙌
@@DirtLifestyle I can't wait to know what you mean by that. Keep up the good work Nate, looking forward to Sunday's video. 🤘
The learning curve is going up, may never build a diesel but I will enjoy the information. Knowledge is power.
I think it’s awesome you include your son. Plus he’s adorable. I think you will find, we as your subscribers absolutely support that.
Thank you!
Enjoy your time with your son, who knows, maybe we'll see him building killer rigs right along side you in the next few years
Absolutely awesome having your kid involved!!!!
So they are in their 20’s now and I’m teaching them this stuff now
Time for a baffled oil pan! I went to school with Matt at UNOH, back then he was a TDI nut had no idea he was still doing it! Awesome stuff!
Called that bent rod. Explained your issues perfectly.
Another great video, and and as dad, love that you had you son next to you. Thank you for all the inspiration to go out and build
The best video ever even better than first video ever on the channel. The most value here is the fun he had. I love it. God bless u and him.
That's amazing .. keep your kid close by they are smart and learn quick. I keep my 6 year old around every time I do a project and I'm planning in doing so with my 2 year old as much as I can. Congrats 👏
Hi nate as a no dad guy, is so cool watch this videos where teach your son.!!! One day could be me teaching mines
I think that is wonderful that you are working with your son. Teach them young.
Looking very interesting. Great to see it coming together.
some of my best memories are working on vehicles with my Dad. I learned a trade that has paid me very well in life.
Nate I'm so excited for this since I plan on looking for a tdi to build to put in my 81 rabbit pick up.
Just lost my little girl. This was always my dream. This is so precious
Not a distraction at all! Would love to see more of it too! My dad did the same for me when I was young, tore down an old sb 350 when I was 9 and that started it all! Can’t wait to do it with my future son. Great work Nate love the vids
Awesome having your son work with you. Trust me they grow up fast and you're always wish you had more time with him
There isn’t even a single update in 7 months about it
Watching your 4 year old wrench on the motor with you is AWESOME!!!!
This is going to be such a sweet build... I'm getting an itch to so something similar!!
Enjoyed seeing the boy in the shop, you are building a lifetime of memories
Your training paid off in your deluxe parts holder! Fun to see your son in the shop!
Glad you are teaching Chris about building an engine. You don't do anything different than generations of craftsman that went before you. I hope Chris will be able to teach his son what you are teaching him. Good job dad.
It’s awesome you brought your son in to help.
Finally! Building a bad alh right now for an upcoming swap. Can't wait to hear it fire up.
That's awesome your son is involved. My daughter is involved I'm my shop and she loves it. Love the videos
Great dad!!! love seeing you work with your boy.
