- In this episode, I am visiting some members of the Naso tribe in Panama. Orlando is showing me around the area that they live, and the importance of the river Teribe, for the existence of their people. It was a visit that left the biggest impression on me during my entire stay in Panama.

Noraly, I think your channel should be included in a secondary school program because of the wonderful insight it gives into how others live and it provides a wonderful down to earth view of other countries.

Noraly, without taking away from what you are presenting us on every episode, but I have to say I was blown away by Orlando's wisdom. You hit the jackpot with your guide. Not only is he so well spoken in the Naso language but his Spanish vocab and dominance is probably better than mine! Not only is Orlando able to communicate but to express the struggle of his people in very simple and coherent terms. No drama, just straight to the point. When you get to Honduras, please do visit "Triunfo the de la cruz" and "La Esperanza" , two areas where female indigenous activists where murdered to stifle them from speaking out against atrocities to the indigenous population. Their names were Berta Caceres and Jeannette Kawas. You are doing an amazing job for us bikers, but culturally you are exceeding my expectations.
Culture comes alive in this episode. I just read that the Naso already are fighting the ‘dams’ for almost 50 years. Well done to put them in de spotlight today. Have a nice weekend!

Did I hear someone say Itchy Boots University? This series is more educational than many hours of formal geography classes. The educative quality of Noraly’s work cannot be understated. She’s filling in gaps of my education where indigenous communities and life off the grid is concerned. A corporate production or documentary does not have the same effect of getting up close and personal with the subjects as they accept her and are at ease to show their way of life. Absolute master class.

Lovely to see the indigenous people trying to keep their way of life and Noraly riding the rapids, wonderful episode, thanks.
If they want to 'keep their way of life' they should start by getting rid of the outboard motors and go back to paddling upriver against the current.
We learned about indigenous people and their day-to-day activity in books at schools and the libraries but through Itchyboots we can actually see the practicality of the way of living of these indigenous people and get to experience it visually. Thanks to Noraly.
It is actually spell Ńampí. It’s like when English speaker pronounce Piña Colada you normally say Pinia or Pina colada.

In Germany we have this well known tv show called "Terra X". Its an educational show about countries, their culture and overall history.
With videos like this you Noraly are absolutly on their level. They couldn´t do it possibly any better.

Huge thanks to Orlando, his family and friends for allowing us all a fascinating glimpse of life with the Naso tribe. I hope the government listens to them so that their unique way of life can be nurtured and preserved. One of the worst crimes the world can commit is deliberately destroy its own peoples way of life - unforgivable! Huge thanks too, to Noraly for another incredibly interesting video.

Noraly your video's of the indigenous people brings up so many emotions in me. I am happy to see these people and the way they live it brings great joy to me but on the other hand it makes me sad that there way of life is disappearing. It brings me to tears some times. But god bless you for doing what you are doing. Not so much for the entertainment of it but for the bringing of us all to a better understanding of each other around the world. I think that the UA-cam world travelers are bringing us as humans to a better place in space and time.
Previous & this episode together has been d best part of season 6 so far & reconfirmed why Itchy Boots is d best travelogue on UA-cam.
So far, I’ve watched every video in this series. Each time I actually think to myself, “this is the best one yet”. these videos are better than things that are in high budget channels like National Geographic etc. You do such an incredible job of getting the right kind of content and putting it together. As always, your interactions with local people are as interesting and fun to watch as your riding in challenging terrain. It is good to have a reminder that “progress” does not need to happen at the cost of small, unique cultures and communities. Well done!

You're doing great work here Noraly. While the West is bridging the end of colonialism with the start of the Metaverse, world cultures have never been more in danger of disappearing. So there has never been a more important time to meet and learn from indigenous people rather than square-peg them into our round-hole societal norms. Keep up the good work!

I noticed this also. But he would not look at her when she was petting him. He may have been curious about someone who was kind to him. He looked a bit withdrawn and depressed. All mammals can feel this.

The hand-hewed canoe, fish pits, and a visit to a Naso tribe create an amazing adventure. It is a sad story of how the Naso people have to battle to preserve their lifestyle but their story is an old story. True moments to be treasured. Continued safe travels. Cheers.
This was a much more interesting episode than others - where you just drive. Your linguistic skills increase your, and our, enjoyment so much.
Interesting scene, with Problems not even realized outside Panama. It is such a shame. How your guide managed to steer the boat in such low water without loosing the prop every 3 minutes is impressive. Take all the time for your stays and travels. These are some of the people you will remember all your life. Good luck further on.
A monarchy in the Americas. Who knew? And what can say more of the Naso's struggle to survive as a unique people when the young man speaking on its behalf and heritage is powered upriver by an outboard motor and explains the threats the Naso face as he clutches his i-phone. We live in a fascinating and intriguing time. And world. Noraly always presents it with sensitivity and beauty. Big Thumbs UP.
Noraly, your Spanish has gotten so good! I speak Spanish and probably would've missed Orlando's great jokes like the "you can't walk" one. You are one with the people. :)

I really enjoyed seeing Orlando and his wife, and Orlando's grandad --- 89 years take us back to 1933 --- I'm sure it was an exicring time!

Not so different from indigenous people everywhere; I'm reminded of some of the African tribes you visited and stayed with last year. They all have to deal with modernity... a cell phone in one hand, the dams spoiling their river highway in this case.
Love that I can learn something in every episode, cultural, geological, scenic wonders... the rewards of adventure!

"Yampi roots are a staple food source for many indigenous peoples in the Caribbean and Central America. In Panama, Yampi root grows only sporadically in the wild. There, indigenous populations believe that the plant was sent from heaven in response to the prayers of the people. In the Caribbean, Yampi root is also used as an accompaniment to Christmas ham, which is glazed with pineapple juice, ginger, orange marmalade, and honey, and served with pineapple rings during the holiday season."

I met a guy I was in the military with a he talked about the YAMPI root. He said cooked and glazed it was kind of like a sweet potatoe? Looked good to me. Lordy Noraly meets the nicest people!!!! 🤗👍
@Bob Fry, is it like Taro Root that they use in Hawaii, & Africa. In the Caribbean, it is called,(Dasheen). They use the leaves like a Spinach, and the roots in soups and stir fry. It's like the purple yam... there is another one called Tannia..Malanga family...????⁉️

You are truely an amazing human being Noraly. I started watching your videos about a month ago and have been hooked since. This is my first comment. I am learning so much about other places, cultures watching your videos. I used to ride a Honda CR250 back in my teen years and I'm now thinking about getting another motorcycle after watching your videos. You give so many people a sense of adventure from just sitting at their computers watching your videos, you don't know how much this helps people break out of the monotony of their lives and to see what all is out there in the world.
Noraly you are such a great ambassador for your Country. Superb language skills and an epic adventurer.

Masterpiece documentry on indigenous people. This is how indigenous culture evolves , grow up to its glory and start fighting for servival. But still happy in their own world. Where they depend livelihood on surrounding. Seperate series must be start as indigenous diaries. Noraly you are very close to real civilization, culture, traditions. Keep it up.
Videos like this are more relevant and interesting than many commercial videos and much more interesting to watch. It's great to get a glimpse into the lives of indigenous people but sad the same story is being repeated the world over - loss of habitat and especially loss of water, causing indigenous people to move and lose part of their heritage. Thank you Noraly for another fantastic video 👍

I love seeing Panama through Noraly again. I visited the indigenous people of Panama and we had lunch. The fish was grilled and there was not enough of it. Then the Man took a plastic bag and the stick leapt into the river and dove. Five minutes later it came with a plastic bag of fresh fish. Awesome. Nota Bene the environment is notoriously degraded. Keep traveling safely.

This was a very nice video. I appreciate bringing our attention to the sad reality of yet another example of indigenous people being marginalized and strong armed out of their lands and way of life. We cannot keep destroying nature and expecting infinite growth out of finite resources. Biodiversity and the health of the ecosystems of our planet IS the only real wealth. Health is wealth both on an individual scale and on the most Macro level. Thank you for showing us this. Wishing you blessings on your mission.

Wow what a day , quite the adventure getting to meet and interact with some of the indigenous people and get to talk to them about life as they know it . I just love meeting people of other cultures and learning how they live . It amazes me how similar we all are but completely different in many ways , it would be great if everyone had the opportunity and could take the time to do this I think it would help make the world a better place .

No solo por el idioma, sino por tu calidez y simpatia que hace todo mas facil en latinoamerica. No eres ese gringa soberbia que todo le da algo que llamamos ^cosa* cuando es algo que no conocemos y parece no gustarnos. No, al contrario, compartes un humilde plato de comida con la gente y generas esa corriente de amistad. Te sigo hace mucho y por otros continentes, pero creo que este viaje a travez de latinoamerica, te ha abierto mucho mas el corazon y nos haces viajar con mucha calidez. A wonderful, powerful video; hopefully the Naso tribe will be left in their own environment and the damming of the rivers does not happen.
It is happening unfortunately for the Panamanians and native Panamanian tribes. They are out of water and 50 dams in Chiriqui province next to Bocas is a sad reality. The NASO and the guaimies people were allies when Columbus arrived in Badtimesyos island a few steps from Colon island where She was staying. It is pretty unique how Orlando referred to the Spaniards. They moved towards the Caribbean and years later in Portobello in Colon the Spaniards had the port to transport the gold from South American. We study history in Panama since elementary school. Great video!

How awesome to meet and visit with the indigenous people and to hear of their struggle to protect their way of life and keep their traditions and culture from totally disappearing. Amazing to see the ancient weapons and sad to hear of the 4 against 1 massacre of the tribe with the Spanish having guns. Very interesting to see the silent poison arrow 'gun'. They certainly learned from their enemies. A fascinating episode showing the simple yet effective way of life with homemade stairs and canoes!

The native Americans built fish dams like those called weirs. I cross them when I kayak the river near me in Georgia.

Absoluut fascinerend hoe gemakkelijk je erin slaagt om met de lokale bevolking om te gaan en een gesprek aan te gaan en ze aan het praten te krijgen over hun dagelijks leven! Goed van je dat je een dag vrij hebt genomen van het zware fietsen, een beetje kunt ontspannen, op je eigen manier. Had zelfs geen idee dat er een stam als Naso bestond!! We leren het een en ander van je vlogs. Geweldig spul en bedankt dat je de plaats van Google hebt ingenomen, met een verschil - praktische input uit ervaringen uit de eerste hand !! Blijf veilig wees voorzichtig!!
