I think due to the Angelica it reminds a lot of French Lover and Pierre Bourdon was the mentor of Julien so there you go :)
I 100% agree with the cigar smell! That's instantly what I noticed. Cigar & cedar. Masculine. It's very daring. My dad used to go to this cigar shop when I was little, and it smells so much like it. It's a rare and distinctive smell. Buying it for my fiancé for our wedding. From a females perspective, it's the best scent I have ever smelled on a man!

Loving the tension of the freshness of citrus, pop of pepper turning from green to warm, the comforting yet mysterious wood & the deep competent earthiness. Minus points for price and lack of transmutation. 85.8/100

Every time I wear this, I feel like my private jet is waiting for me outside. To me it represents Abundance, it represents Freedom, it represents Luxury, it represents glamour. I don't like classic Oud smell, that's why I love this. This is the most advanced scent in the market. It's the perfect example of creativity. Nice choice 11 out of 10.
Smells like Cedar, Herbs and Cloves to me. I love the scent but it has really poor longevity on my skin. Wish it performed better its really nice, best of the house imho. I use CDG Kyoto Incense instead, similar vibe and better value.
Hey Marc. I just bought Royal Oud from a Winners here in Canada. I was disappointed that when I opened the box, the cap/lid of the bottle was completely split/broken down the middle making it basically useless. The gold round crown "emblem" which is in the middle of Creed caps, has fallen out of the cap as well and you can see the white adhesive they use to glue it into the cap... Since you have so much experience with frags, I was wondering if it makes sense to keep it or will not having a cap prove to be an issue in the long run? I know there are people who have bought testers which don't have a cap, but both the collector in me and frag enthusiast is kind of bothered by a bottle without a cap. I paid 300 Canadian for the 4 OZ (120 ML). Still trying to decide if I'm going to keep it or not. I feel I could possibly get a better deal online but when considering possible duties, I felt that the 300 was not the worst thing to pay. Thanks in advance Marc.

I really like this stuff.. Had to buy a backup bottle. Strangely I don't reach for it much. My wife never acknowledges my fragrances in general.. However when I began wearing it - I came home after work one day following 12 hours of wearing it.. Her first question when I walked past her was, "have you been smoking?" (I don't smoke).. I smell that ashy scent as well. I actually like that. I think however that's why I don't reach for it as much as I'd like. I think I might come off like I was just smoking when going past people, bc I think it likely has good sillage. Thanks for the excellent review.
Great scent! Fits young males too. Women absolutely love it, however when that pink pepper comes out. Let it drydown for 15 minutes and wow! 3-4 sprays will last you about 6-10 hours. Very happy with it!
I just don't think this is an Oriental Fougere. "Fougere" is a vastly overused and vastly abused classification. But this fragrance itself is fit for a king. Appropriate occasion: King's coronation. It is NOT versatile. Not for casual circumstances, whatsoever. Formal only. VERY formal. But all in all this fragrance is the creme de la creme of its genre and maybe beyond. It does produce an immediate "wow", just as it did ClemenceCC when she first reviewed it. I mean, she cried when first smelling this. 10/10

Interesting you rate it highly versatile, because I've been layering it across a range of scents. Love it on its own, but with Tabarome Millesime or Tom Ford it's Wow! And yes, Compliments!

Im actually very surprised RO had no licorice in it, given the black cap and theme on the bottle. The pungent green notes were very disappointing for me and the rest did nothing to pull me the slightest away from the Creedhate camp =) They have wonderful ingredients for sure but I still think they just cannot make exciting scents / Orientals at all (aside from Aventus but that is too green and smoky too). I mean, between this and Enchanted forest(!)

Marc, as always, you nailed this to a tee. Very complex scent to analyze, too many jumped to conclusions. I very rarely agree 100% with reviewers :)

Great review. People have to recognize that Creeds by and large are in the English style, and therefore should expect that from Creed.

this is a nice scent, with a hint of Oud. not worth retail, but okay at discounted prices. Overall this is a nice 'European Oud' scent.
