    In 2000, I went to Cabo San Lucas to go scuba diving for a week. One day I drove my rent-a-jeep to San Jose del Cabo. At that time there were only 4 or 5 hotels and virtually no restaurants. It's amazing how much its grown. The airport was brand new at that time,... just opened.

      @@user-qj6nx9ss7v drinking the tap water for a week, a year apart each time, would not generate any sort of the tolerance you imply. Also, my family, and their assorted friends over the years, have had no issues. The tap water in the developed areas is safe.

      @@asajayunknown6290 Yes it would. I've lived in Mexico for years now. In the beginning my girl and I got ill several times. From the water and eggs. She went to to ER. After years of washing fruit and veggies and ingesting small amounts we now don't feel ill from the water. It took us several years to get used to it. Someone being born in Mexico won't get sick like an American being exposed to different bugs all of a sudden. Switching cultures overnight sends your stomach over the top.

    I noticed that at minute 4:57 you showed my favorite Mexican hot sauce, Salsa Valentina. I say favorite because usually in Spain it is the only Mexican chile sauce available, and at a reasonable price. In Portugal I have never seen it so I stock up when we go shopping across the border. Before the pandemic started I bought five bottles and am now working on my last one. I love it. Your electricity bill is incredibly low. In Portugal we pay around 21 dollars even if we don't use it. Our normal monthy bill is 85 dollars, which is a fixed rate for six months, then adjusted up or down. Mexico is so cheap in some things.

    We pay $2,200 for a huge 2drm, 2bath house gated with a large garden and yard, pet friendly. We have a huge kitchen, all utilities and WiFi payed. There’s a rooftop deck over looking the entire city. Off street parking and a nice size pool! Washer and dryer included. As a comparison, I rent one of my studio apartments in Hermosa Beach CA for $2,200 a month! Los Cabos... has everything and nothing if you wish🏄🏼‍♂️🎣😍

    Living in Cabo implies tremendous savings for retirees on fixed income to sustain a comfortable way of living, as their retirement fund can be stretched 20-30% in contrast to the average living cost in the US, due to the always favorable exchange rate, and because food, utilities, and everyday services are less

    It’s also significantly cheaper if you lived in the barrió but, the majority of expats won’t. Also Los Cabos has zones for electrical consumption (unlike other areas of Mexico, even other areas of BCS), so you AC bill will vary depending your zone. Also the cost of gas for your house and your vehicle is more expensive here than any other state.

      If you are only searching in English then those are sort of the prices you're likely to find. It also depends on the dates that you're looking for as well and what neighborhood you want to be in (the hotel zone is definitely the most expensive). If you can search in Spanish on Facebook Marketplace or in the Facebook groups for rentals in San Jose or San Lucas then you will find much lower prices.

      The organic market is every saturday just on the edge of town. We've gotten some great produce from there. www.google.com/maps/place/Organic+Market+San+Jose+Del+Cabo/@23.066671,-109.6956348,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xa67723268bca6b3f?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj55PvEqe_vAhUGIjQIHb0XCBwQ_BIwFHoECCEQBQ

    Im curious as to what you do for your medical. Do you have insurance or how does that work in the event of an illness or injury? Do you have a permanent residence card?

    I'm 50 years old, looking to leave Houston TX, crazy cost of living here. I can retire in a couple years but would be limited to about 4k a month. Could I buy a house there and live comfortable maybe even a car? Can you give me some advice?

    When you say the air-conditioning can skyrocket a bill in the summer, how much do you think ? If a month was $7 without the air-conditioning, would it be like $100 US to run it every day ? Because compared to where I live in the US, that would still be extremely cheap.

    • @laura-bronner
      @laura-bronner  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on how long you run it for. Last summer when I was living in Barra de Navidad for the hottest months - June-September, we ran the air conditioning when we cooked and for a few hours when we were going to sleep (we set a timer so it shut off in the middle of the night). Overall I'd say it was running for 2-3 hours a day. Our monthly bill was about $75 USD so I imagine if you are constantly running it, it can get much higher than $100 USD.

      @@laura-bronner Does running the fans in the ceiling do a lot of damage to the electric bill? If you run those constantly will the bill skyrocket?

      No, we use those all the time and it doesn’t seem to affect the price much at all.

    How do you usually pay in Mexico for your long term rentals? Cash, Venmo, Credit Card?

    • @laura-bronner
      @laura-bronner  3 роки тому

      Personally I've always paid for everything in cash. It's likely that if you rent from a Mexican landlord you'll be paying in cash. Sometimes we pay her into her bank account from ours, but we have a Mexican bank account so it's pretty easy. When I was living in Mexico City we would meet our landlord in the building parking lot once a month and pay that way. You can also pay cash into a bank account at Oxxo. If you have a foreign landlord you can probably pay differently, but I have no experience in that.

    Would you be able to share info about the apartment at some point? I'm going to be there for a month from mid-Dec to mid-Jan and would love to find a place to stay. We will have our dog; not sure if that's allowed.
