my 1997 328i was a tank. Very reliable. My 2007 335i was in the shop every 2-3 months. Without the extended warranty, i would have gone broke. I never had a completely working car for very long.
B8 (2009-2012) A4 owner here. Get B8.5 A4. Most of those issues are fixed by then. If you get a B8 either make sure the issues are fixed or the price is cheap enough to fix the issues. I have 250k mi on mine. But I have done the work to get there. All and all I still love the car.
Adding another car to the list. The Saturn Vue Greenline Hybrid. The other Vue models aren't half bad, but the hybrids were designed in Germany, and shared virtually zero mainstream parts, and as such were complete lemons. I owned one, and after buying it with just over 100k miles, the ABS, TC, ESC, and Hybrid power system failed, leaving me in a 4000lb crossover being lugged around by a 150whp 4 banger with a 4-speed auto. On another note, why isn't the Dodge Dart on this list? They have so many recalls and reported issues it's not even funny anymore.
Had a 2004 jag x type estate as a stopgap, ended up putting over 50k miles on it cost nothing but tyres, sold it on eBay for more than I paid , man brough a engine reader with him had no fault readings
I daily drive an 09 Audi A4. I luckily haven't had any oil issues up at 83k miles but I have had a couple blown/cracked intake manifolds. I really love this car especially in the winter despite being in the shop every few months. I 100% do not regret buying it as it's an absolute blast to drive.
Very nice, I know this comment is a year old but you really should check to make sure it has the updated timing chain tensioner if it has the 2.0T/EA888gen2. They pretty much all fail (without any warning) at around 100-120k miles and if you are unlucky they will take your valves and pistons with them. I had this happen to me on my 09 A4 ):
@@ByefriendoYup I had multi people tell me to stay away from Audi because of the timing chain when I was looking for a used car. I found a couple beautiful Audis for around 7k but I was scared to buy one because everyone told me they're unreliable.
I own a '09 Audi A4 Avant with the 1.8TFSI engine. As you said in the clip, I had to replace my engine costing me a healthy 6K. However, this was due to a broken chain tensioner. Never had my Audi leak or consume any oil. I did replace everything about the (new) engine. Like timing chain + tensioner, new valves, new seals, new pistons + rings, everything... Cost me a fortune, but love my Audi nonetheless and was totally worth it.
my dad bought the A4 with a 2.0 Tdi engine back in 2009. Damn that car is awesome. It has 330.000km on it, without any major damage. The only part that failed was the turbocharger, but that was not because of engine problems. It still is the most reliable and safest car of my family. Cruising fun fact: The car weights about 1500kg and feels really heavy. But its a god damn arrow on the highway. It feels stable, low and incredibly comfortable at speeds over 160kmh(i live in germany)
The TDI models of these cars are great, the 2.0TFSI + DSG combo is the real dud of the lineup (ask me how I know). And yeah they do feel really heavy, I suspect it is because they have the polar moment of inertia of a cruise ship having the big iron block engine hanging fully infront of the front axles, as well as the soft suspension and plenty of body roll.
my brother in christ im emplore you to check your chain tensioner. Mine went one fateful morning with 190,000kms on the clock and took the valves, head and pistons with it. The issues is that you get 0 warning signs, no CEL, no weird running, just spontaneous failure. Other than that I absolutely love b8 a4 quattro, looks great, drives great, pulls decently hard. The design has aged fucking fantastically IMO, they still look modern and they are going on 13 years old.
I can confirm the Acadia 😅 my mother had an '08 and was used. It was fine for a while but after a year or so it started having engine problems. Throttle body stuck open, air leak, some other crap that had went out that I honestly cant remember lol. Overall it was a nice car, good looks and decently powered for what it was but got yeeted away after she realised it was a money pit. $10k in repairs later it got yeeted, which then led to the birth of my Lacrosse which became mine after she got a Ford Flex. So it was a ride and a half to say the least lol.
My wife and I had a 2006 PT Cruizer convertible. She drove that car until 2017 and put 250000 miles on it. It was a great car and lot of fun to drive. 2.5 turbo was a blast. Only reason we sold it was we purchased a 4 door wrangler and did not need a convertible any more and it was just sitting in the car port wasting away.
I myself daily a 2010 Audi A5, same CAEB I4 as the A4. The B8 era is known for oil consumption but just a simple catch can (45-50minute install for most beginner diy) will solve most of the burning oil issue; which is why the carbon builup is a common problem for any Direct Injection engine that leads to engine failure.
@@chicoandthem4n Not actually true. Yes the more expensive ones do because there’s just too many electronic gizmos to go wrong but I’ve got a 2012 Freelander, basic model and it just goes and goes.

I just had a 2010 A4 and I was fully aware of the oil consumption issue. It actually can go into sum 2012 models. The one I bought had the work done on it, with photos and receipts for parts. I thought the car was great , of course my engine had the updated pistons and rings in it but it was a pretty satisfying car. I upgraded on whim because I had watched reviews on youtube about the RS3. I wanted to see if the hype was real and had no intention on buying it. Well the hype is real and I love it to death, except not offering a manual. Thats my only gripe about it.

1999-2006 Mercedes Benzs during the DaimlerChrysler era had the worst build quality in the companies history, particularly the E & S classes. Then in 2007, they dumped Chrysler and brought back improved quality of their cars.
Jaguar X Type...Had two of them as family cars for many years and had very very few issues, once got picked up in a 250,000 mile estate that was being used as a taxi, driver said it was very reliable. Fuel consumption (gas mileage) isn't brilliant, 40 mpg from my 2 litre one and 33mpg from the wife's 2.2 auto version but they certainly weren't a terrible car in my experience. We kept updating them when they hit around 130,000 miles so had 6 different ones altogether. Now have the XE and find that a pretty good car also. Small point; the car at the end of your clip on X Types wasn't an X Type

I saw the Audi and immediately clicked out of fear for my beauty. To my relief it was the A4. I own a facelift model [2017] of the original A5 [2007]. The original A5 and the A4 are pretty much identical except for the head lights and the A5 offering a coupe as well as a sportback/hatchback. Ive owned my A5 for 2 full years and edging past the 90k kilometers she's given me no cause for complaints whatsoever. Which isn't something i could say for a colleague of mine who drives or more appropriately drove an A6

Bought used 1999 Jeep GC in 2012 and it was nonstop problems, month after month. Gas hog too. But good handling and power. I young woman probably texting ran off the highway and plowed into my Jeep and totaled it. Probably did me a favor. Yet it hurt after almost eight years of repairs and improvements (like new K&N air filter, redone leather seat bottoms) and my thinking that just maybe we (me and the car) had reached a plateau and no more big issues. Looking now to buy a 2017 Honda Fit. Getting on in years and it will likely be my last car. I had a great time meeting all the mechanics and specialists in Puerto Vallarta, (which accounted for half my mileage over the eight years of ownership), but too old now to have another problemed vehicle!

I'm surprised that Chrysler Sebring/200 didn't make that list. Those things are in the shop all the time and usually when they come in from an accident they end up totaled out.
Don’t listen to this dude, he really doesn’t know what hes talking about 90% of the time. A 2.0t a4 is a very reliable car as long as you make sure before you buy it it doesn’t have some of the major problems like oil leaks.

The first clip of the white Audi sliding wasn't an A4 that was an s4... And earlier generations of a4s have been just fine 1.8T was a solid motor. Early 2.0t's had a there issues but no reason to not buy one if you're doing preventative maintenance
Dodge Colt Vista. Was on a flat bed three times in the first month. After the dealer 'fixed' a shift linkage issue, on the way home I realized they turned my 5 speed into a 4 speed. Sigh.
I kind of disagree about the PT Cruiser----I had one and it was good as long as you kept up repairs----it was fun to drive and had an excellent interior along with 6-speaker surround sound.
First 4 model years of the Jeep Renegade, horrible timing problems, fuel system, breaks, power steering. Same with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2015 to 16, power steering racks, water pumps, radiators, CV shafts, ball joints and if you where “lucky” enough to get air ride, that failed constantly.
2010 jeep liberty. Nothing but electrical and 4wd problems even after i replaced the TIPM. Had it for a little over a year and spent about $3-4k on going to keep it running
ive owned a jaguar X type 3.0 AWD 2003 and never had any issues and its one of the best handling cars you can have if you put decent coilovers on it, my bmw e92 m3 doesn't turn as good.
I got a 2006 Pontiac torrent with 180k miles on it and it’s never given me a major problem. Also I’ve abused the shit out of it. Have made thousands of trips with a trailer behind it
I bought a 2006 Torrent new, mine lasted 186,000 miles till it died, just last November 2020, no major problems for 14 years, till the very end. Bought a 2019 Hyundai Kona AWD as a replacement.
The worst I had WAS an '07 colorado. Even with the I5 the thing didn't go as fast as it should've. There were constant engine issues such as air hoses breaking, the water pump almost exploding on the way to the mechanics, starter issues that the mechanic couldn't fix, and the electrical for the AC system just not working. I was relieved when it crashed and insurance totalled it. Don't buy this vehicle. If you want a truck thats smaller than a full sized, get a tacoma. They're not as cheap, but that's because they weren't cheaply built.
Audi a4 in the EU got most of the engine problems fixed in 2010 and by 2011 everything was fixed, 2008 and 2009 are bad if they didn't get fixed by the warranty/recall. I guess US got them late and the fixes too?
My 05 blazer was a death trap waiting to happen but alest when i was rear ended what little frame it had didn't break but that was the engine bay really
I regret buying the Ford Focus 2.0 hatchback 2005. Gear box died just under 80,000km, when manual said transmission oil change was at 80k km. Auto gear cable snapped twice.
My B7 has been ok once I did the timing service. Now, the B8’s are the most problematic by far. The B5, B6 and B7 may have issues, but mostly because of maintenance and age.
Following up to jonathanpeterson1’s comments, he’s referring to generations of the Audi A4, where a B8 is the 2009 ~ 2011 year range covered in the video. I own a 2010 that’s doing well with 186k mi. I had bad oil consumption that, fortunately, my Audi dealer covered full pistons and rings replacement at 90k. Then a while later after expired warranty I learned about the timing chain tensioner defect that could cause the catastrophic engine failure mentioned in the video. At my $2k expense I had the timing chain system replaced. If I were currently in the market to buy I would consider a B9. Several improvements and I haven’t heard of any reliability issues. Anyone?
I had a 2001 PT Cruiser back when it was new and had it almost 5 years and the only thing that went out on it was the timing belt. Apparently, I had the only that never broke down.
Wife had one for 4 years and she did not had much problems. Water pump was replaced when we did timing belt and fuel pump gave up on her at 190 000. I would not call it a bad car,not greatest looking but it was not bad as people tend to say it

My 09 A4 wagon is amazing. It chugs oil but otherwise drives great. It has a stage 1 tune and bilstein shocks but has been great. 150k miles too
Adding another car to the list.
Compass "points to a mechanic " is hilarious!
my dad bought the A4 with a 2.0 Tdi engine back in 2009.
And yeah they do feel really heavy, I suspect it is because they have the polar moment of inertia of a cruise ship having the big iron block engine hanging fully infront of the front axles, as well as the soft suspension and plenty of body roll.
i have a b8 a4 quattro and ive had some problems but it really ain't that bad. the catastrophic stuff is super uncommon
I sure hope that at the very least you had the timing chain tensioner replaced for the revised model.

my brother in christ im emplore you to check your chain tensioner.
