I gotta move outta Iowa, man. Rather than having a snow-covered yard from November to March and brown, dirty piles of snow until April, I need it to stick around for a day or two and melt like it seems to do in the greater SLC area.

It takes incredible hand/eye coordination to get up into tight spots like that with only a peak to get you started. Nice job getting that camera in there!

You replaced the "mode door actuator" the "blend door actuator" is the temp control

That's what I was thinking. The 5th Gen camaro has a poorly designed blend door which causes it to break easily, so there's a popular hack video which requires us to have to carve out a section of the side floor dash to replace it rather than having the entire dash and window removed. Good times. Here's praying that mine never goes out.

    • @ninjatechauto655

You are correct. The blend door actuator is behind the left side of the glovebox and a real pain to get to. With the mode door actuator, this one is easy. If he had the optional pedal adjust feature. He would have had to unbolt and move the pedal assembly to get to it. Former Nissan tech. Done many of these.

Because the actuators are often the same part number, sometimes “blend door actuator” is the default name (especially when looking up parts) even though we know it’s actually controlling mode or recirc.

@@ninjatechauto655hopefully you see this . I have a 2007 Nissan Titan Xe extended cab and I get the clicks from the defroster . Are the other two actuators the same pretty much like the passenger one and the driver closest not the rear

    ERNEST,
I once had to replace a heater core where it was done by
removing the passenger front fender & removing the entire
heater/ac housing off the firewall. I cussed the designer
every minute I worked that job.

I would say as a mobile mechanic. The most common blend door I replace is the hot/cold actuator on the 09 to 13 f150. Shops often quote for the half dash to be removed since the service manual calls for it. But after so many I found a short cut of undoing 2 bolts for the radio bezzel 4 for the radio itself. Then just skinny hands I can get the 2 that hold the actuator motor in. Use to take me about 30 minutes to get done and replaced. But now it takes me about 5 minutes. Shops would charge about 200$ to do it. My old price was 40$ now since I get through them so fast I just say 5$ will cover it. Now the lower blend door on dual zone equipped ones that has a blend door motor on the floor. I got a cheat also so instead of the 4 to 5 hour job it takes me about 35 to 40 minutes. Plus I enjoy working on those so I never charge much to do them for my simple enjoyment of it. It's almost the joy you have of replacing light bulbs in the auto part stores parking lot.

Want to come to California and fix my titans a.c. blend door and a.c. system? When I put on cold, it makes a clicking sound too so and for some reason, my a.c. turns on with heater and not when I select the cold. I learned to live with it. It's also a titan. When done with payments, I'm turning it in and getting a newer titan.

The blend door on my brothers 2002 Dodge Stratus is shorted to ground and I wonder how hard it is to get to it. I probably have to take the entire dash out but I'm hoping not.
I did enjoy watching the video, however, and I'm hoping it'll be as easy as this!

  • @zigzagrz

did you adjust the new blend door? what I mean is, if you dont adjust it to how the old one was, the new one will continue to try to blend one way and then not fully blend the opposite way if not adjusted right. Not sure if this the case with Nissan but with GM's it is.

    • @RoadsideRescue

    • @TallFamilyFilms

Not abnormal for these trucks. That rust you’re seeing is on some metal that Nissan didn’t treat or polish in any way. So it rusts pretty quickly in the open air.
