I have been to Cape Breton Island a number of times for work and again with my wife and oldest son with the camper. Spectacular place. The people are the best. My coworker stayed over Christmas on his own while we all went home. After Christmas he informed us he got broken into and found a Christmas tree with presents under it. Multiple invites for Christmas dinner. Awesome!

JJ here-long time enthusiast of KYD: recently had the P038 dreaded alarm on my 6.7(F350)-i'd gone thru same thing with the F250 couple years ago. Saw on another thread one Ford guy had some simiar issues, and some of the STRANGE things he listed due to battery. All that to say i hadn't seen any delay in starting but had battery checked by someone i trust--he showed me readings-both batteries low. New batteries installed-the P038 cleared and the GPS SYNCH(i assumed was going out)is nowworking. Another Ford 'tech' said "you'd be suprised what low VOLTs can do to a truck system. Just wanted to alert you.
Love you guys! Have been watching since (near) the beginning. A lot of life has changed since then but you guys are always a source of joy and smiles. I’m grateful for your presence in the world! 🙏
Awesome!! We are a couple of days behind you. In New Hampshire. You continue to inspire us! My husband who has Parkinson’s disease and we refuse to succumb to the disease! You inspire us to continue! We have watched you since the beginning of your UA-cam start. Thank you for inspiring us to continue. We Keep Our Daydreams every day because for you. BTW we live in Tampa. Would love to meet you when you return home!
It is good to see this positive attitude. I was recently diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy. While different, they are both progressive. I am not going to roll over!
1st time viewer. Saw all the places Ive been to18 yrs ago! Sooo nice to view this! Great video work. You and your wife mesh abd work well together! Love that!!!
The battery acid can be easily cleaned off with simple baking soda and a tooth brush and/or wire brush on your terminal connections. Just rinse it off with water once you have scrubbed it down. You may have only have had a bad connection due to the corrosion and your batteries are fine. If they are actually bad, I would have replaced both at the same time so your new battery is overworking itself.
@ 9:59 -- Trish : Notes the Black Flies and suggests bringing a light jacket with long sleeves. "I don't have a long sleeve but a little long sleeve might be helpful..." while having a long sleeved fleece tied around her waist. That's so natural and relatable.
Always replace both batteries because the one you replaced has already effected the other one so it won't be long g before it goes. Beautiful places that ya'll are going through. Thank you for sharing
One thing I've always done since I started driving is I put a little grease around the battery post before I put the terminal back on. When I do this, I've never seen the acid build up on the battery. Looks so peaceful with the fog. I would want a bench to enjoy a coffee.
Just FYI… glad the truck is running well and here’s what my Ford guy told told me… always try to use some kind of diesel fuel treatment and always turn on the ignition before starting the engine. (Hit the button no brake, after 5-10 seconds (when all the dings have stopped) hold the brake and hit start). It’ll prime the system with fuel and oil which reduces wear and tear and helps prevent common issues with Super Duty fuel pumps. Also, I’d rub some dielectric grease on those battery contacts and terminals!
I did the Cabot trail also in July - the Skyline trail was one of the prettiest trails I’ve ever been on, as were the other trails along it. I hit some fog and drizzle but the only rain was coming south from Cape Breton on July 22 - the day Halifax said it got 3 months of rain in one day and cars were floating away….so I diverted to Antigonish. Never driven in such hard rain - a little scary. My “hydroplaning” warning light came on - that’s when I pulled over early to a motel.
When changing a bettery always fully remove the negative terminal from the battery before you touch the positive terminal. That way if you connect the positive terminal to ground using your wrench, it will not create a welding spark. When installing a new battery positive terminal first, then the negative. Be safe...... Also wear safety glasses and clothes that you do not care about. Batteries can blow up. I am lucky to live through a battery arc fault event.. there is hydrogen, acid, noise, and scrapenel when a battery explodes.
Love the Cabot Trail we've done it twice both times in stunning weather! Cape Breton is breathtaking! I'm debating moving from Ontario to Nova Scotia I am always going back.
Two weeks ago, spent half a day replacing both trailer batteries in the middle of a camping trip... I feel your pain. They were old and failing - even the solar couldn't keep them charged. It gave us a chance to shop for some batteries and some fishing licenses. New batts, no fish caught, cant win them all... Keep up the fight, we are hare to watch, enjoy, and relate....
I did the Cabot Trail a few weeks before you - stayed at the Cheticamp campground and did the Skyline trail. As always, you did a great job capturing the whole essence of “the Cabot Trail”. It’s a stunning place. LOVED this video.
It amazes me, when our sons enjoy the same past times we do, then work hard to outdo us. The saving grace to this is when they realize that you tought them how to do it, and when you were their age, you would have beaten their socks off.
Wow, I walked out to start the Ol Gray Mule (RAM 3500 diesel) thursday morning and .......the dreaded click. Nothing, just click. Well 92,000 miles and original batteries, guess I knew it was time. So oil change and TWO (NOT one at a time Mark!) of the BEST batteries later and a mere $675 and the Mule roars to life! And were ready for Our Summer to Remember 2023! Gotta love that Caleb he's a hoot and a monster on the bike! I remember when I was his age and riding from the Naval Station in Pensacola to the Beach and back every day about 17 miles each way! You guys Rock! And Momma loves the cookbook!
We’re back in Nova Scotia yesterday after getting chased out by Hurricane Fiona last Fall and headed to Cape Breton. Thanks for the preview and driving direction tip. We’re so excited!
Love your video! Fun fact, I live on the Cabot trail! My whole life (38) and I adore your family's take on the trail! Ps, I'm from Ingonish Beach! Hope you all took the time to stop in there!! Stay safe!!
Dude. Both Batteries!!! You charging system is only as good as your weakest battery! I hope you don’t regret not changing them both. Looks like you’re all having an epic trip. Enjoy! Thanks for at the years of sharing your families adventures!!!
@@KeepYourDaydream Makes sense. Keep an eye on it. If one failed, the other won’t be far behind. I know you don’t get here to the valley like you used to (I’m in Gilbert) but the heat kills those batteries. Thanks for replying. I know you get tons of comments. I’ve enjoyed your channel for 5 years, ever since we decided to get back into camping. My favorites vids are your destination vids. Keep up the wonderful content!
I’ve had issues with same truck that were battery related. Tried changing just 1 battery. Worked for short time and then had issues shortly after. I learned… always - always change both batteries.
Fyi. If u swapped to AGM from flooded batteries you should use Forscan to change ur BCM setting under “battery type”. This tells the truck how to charge your batteries to optimize battery charge/life.
Lovely area. Nice that the shop let you do the repair in the parking lot. I recommend you consider replacing the second battery. Also use baking soda and water to rinse any residual acid from the clamps. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
We were in CB the same week as you. The weather has been unsettled for weeks! We do say here, if you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes and it will change. As for the fog, it is good for your complexion!! 🙃 You are really doing a nice job of showing off our province. Glad that you have enjoyed your travels!
Cape Breton is gorgeous. Cabot Trail is epic. While you folks were there, I was in Newfoundland at the same period. Newfoundland is another MUST SEE…another truly special place with incredible people. You guys need to add it to you list for the next time you’re up here in eastern Canada
The Milk also tends to take out any offensive flavors in fish and seafood. I have done it with Bullheads, as well as Largemouth Bass, as they can have an extra fishy flavor. just grab a carton of milk, open the top take some milk out, and drop fish in, and freeze the entire container.
Loved this episode. Glad the fix for the superduty was the less expensive one. The shot where you were above the clouds reminded me of camping near Frosty Park Co, west of Colorado Springs, every year for an annual birthday party for friends. We all had our dirt bikes and the highlight, for me, was the midnight ride to the top of a mountain somewhere between Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mt. There is a valley you can look down on from there and this particular trip there was heavy fog in the valley. There was also a full moon that made the fog bank light up in silver light and caused the whole valley to glow in an extremely bright silver light. Spectacular.
You’re being back memories. 10 years ago we made our own epic trip to Newfoundland from Alberta. (Cape Spear or Bust!). Cabot Trail was a memorable day.
Gee after watching the videos on Nova Scotia I've added it to my bucket list of places I most likely will never get to go to. I'm really enjoying seeing these as well as Charlie his eyes just melt my heart. Caleb reminds me of my bike riding days but I wasn't as good as he is. Trish the chips and dip surely looked amazing. Marc keeps you on the road. Thank you so much as enjoyed. Love y'all
So fun to see you guys up in the eastern part of Canada. I come from the Eastern townships in Quebec but travel to the Atlantic provinces every year to visit familly and enjoy the beautiful scenery and fun people. Love watching you guys!
Another great video. You guys really have hit the wettest spring/summer in years in these parts, but hey weather is what it is, and as you are doing, we find a way to enjoy anyway. Looking forward to the rest of your trip for sure. As always safe travels...
511 Nova Scotia will give pretty good weather reports. Each providence has a 511 some are better than others. You should swap both of the batteries, the old one will drain the new one done, lowest common denominator.
Beauty, ‘eh? Such a joy spending some time with you folks. This was a spectacular episode, from the scenery, the bike riding, the food, to the maintenance success. Rock On!
Marc and Trish - I think you would love driving in Ontario from Sault Ste Marie to Thunder Bay - the views are just as spectacular or even better than the Cabot Trail. Another trip idea for the future.
Now I am weeping you're going to P.E.I. ! I want to be there lol. So you have to go into New Brunswick to take the bridge in. Loving this season. Seeing as this year I stayed home to do things I can enjoy it vicariously thru you. :)
We got out to the end of the Skyline Trail and just started back when a thunderstorm hit. We did not have rain gear and were drenched but the view made it definitely worth it!
OK, I realize I'm a day late and a million-billion-gazzillion comments later, May I suggest that the ending scene of this video could be called, "Into The Mist". It's quite lovely, but for sunbirds I understand that it might be a bit daunting. And Rue's little trill was a bonus. Thank you.
i copy that feeling of the sun after a month of rain. then here in maine, it was steamy humid after the rain and we still couldn't get out and about. beautiful now, though. heavenly.
Trish....you had me at Al Fredo! Marc.....how do you compete with that? You don't. You can't. Mark Twain nailed it when he said "youth is wasted on the young".
I come from Maine. I heard, years ago from a lobsterman from Harpswell, if you must freeze lobster it has to be in whole milk! The ice crystals from anything lesser will get into the meat and make it mushy. Like freezing strawberries, they are never the same. This is the reason Red Lobster didn’t make it in Maine.. Frozen lobster isn’t the same at all
I just HAD to cycle the Cabot Trail, the “brochure” photos looked stunning. Then we drove counter clockwise & decided there was no way I was going to do the amount I had thought I wanted. No shoulders & the locals barrelled past us! I did ride about 500m from our campground to where the bridge construction was & back. We haven’t completed the trip around Cape Breton Island yet, possibly next summer depending on how well towing our new rig goes.
If you have 2 Batteries wired in Parallel , You need to replace Both Batteries at the same time. Replacing only 1 battery can cause a discharge in the battery that has more capacity to drain power into the battery that has less capacity. (Peukert Law) Always a good idea to have both batteries the same brand and fairly close production date.(Modern Automotive Modules hate low voltages or strange current spikes) Good Luck.
Beautifully surrounded scenery, cliff hanging hillside hugging road down to the water. It's all encapsulated, breathing it in & at the same time breathless for immense views ..... Glad Mark fixed battery with steering wheel 'offline' who would of thought together effectivity‼️. Great continued journeys around Nova Scotia surround - memories for all & "subscriber me" 😁😘
Mark, I know we’re all brand loyal when it comes to trucks, but I really think you should give another brand a look. Chevy for 1 has no death wobble since it uses an independent front suspension and Ram has a mechanical locker and variable exhaust break. Love the videos!
The weather hope the last storm lots of flooding we had 3 days prior in southern ontario note Sarnia ontario and lots of damage trees lost power but Novs Scotia had terrible flooding Saturday hope you guys are okay crazy weather this summer ! Safe travels !Wish had someone to travel with like you guys that was plan to do all east coast including Newfoundland and all the way to Florida in our hot rod but thanks for sharing get live through your family !
Our golden seemed to dislike both our diesel trucks. He loved going with us but was not stressed in any of our gas rigs. I always wondered if it was the sound of engine.
It's always on the weekend. I'm in Kentucky from Florida and I have a DEF engine code. Found a good Boondockers Welcome to stay at until the mechanic opens on Monday.
Iowa "Quad City" native - just sent a comment through your website with local food, drink, and sight seeing suggestions for after the Mississippi tire dip. Enjoy the ride through Iowa and i hope you get to enjoy all Iowa has to offer!
Awesome! We seem to be travelling the same routes but a couple weeks behind you. We just missed the flooding around Halifax by a couple days!! The general reccomendation is to drive ccw around the Cabot Trail. This puts you in the outside lane and allows entry into all the pull offs without having to cross traffic. Travel safe!
@KeepYourDaydream regarding the black flies: I get permanent red marks from black fly bites unless I use arnica gel on the bite marks right away. The rest of my family doesnt have this issue. Just figured I would let you know in case any of you have the same reaction to the bites as I do. Love the video 🤗
Hey have the same truck was having a lot of the same issues did batteries and it fixed everything. But you need to do both batteries not just one. You will start to have more issues.
Others mentioned this already, but you should always change them both .....now the old battery is making the new one work harder........ Also your horn at the beginning.....what is it and where did you get it? One more thing......keep the Ford....you have a work horse there.
Always ABSOLUTELY Amazing! Best of Luck at RAGBRI...KeepCalm&CycleOn🚴♂️ Also watched Eamon and Bec... they were at the Skyline Trail too. And the couple Adventures of A + K are at RAGBRI.
Great video. The views were outstanding. How many times did Caleb lap ya on that hill :) Thank you for bringing up that great discussion point about always change all batteries unless they all are relatively new. This is good advise for the readers and the next one that has similar issues. I want some of that food. Thank you for bring us along
Thank you for the ride segments!! Oh, the power of youth! Attacking the 8% grade like that is awesome. I’m terrible on climbing, but I’m old and heavy! 😅. I go on “cycle safari’s” almost every year so I’m digging your locations. I’d love to follow on Strava and check your stats. Cheers!!
We're from Massachusetts have ridden Cabot trail on a Harley twice now but it's been a few years you've inspired me to go again in the near future. Health issues will make us take the car this time
Never change just one battery always change both batteries you will immediately have problems with the one you don't change.
Never!
X3
Yep. Change both. 😅
Always change both! At least in the RAMS so they say!
They only had one. I shouldn’t have included that in the edit.
They day we did the Skyline trail it was all fog out, Within 1 hour it was clear and what an amazing view.
Great to see Caleb in good form on the bike and attacking on the climbs! Proud dad moments, while gasping for air of course.
Awesome!
That’s Cape Breton for you!
Never ever change just 1 battery in a diesel. Always change both.
Okay ..... new rule:
Your videos have to be.....have to be.....at least 45 minutes long with at least the same GREAT/OUTSTANDING value as this one.
Thank you for all your efforts....they are considerable !
Absolutely Agree 😊
Start your own channel and let them enjoy some fun time without that responsibility! Quit being greedy!
We had a terrible June and most of July, hope you got some sunshine. It's not usually like this.
Changing one battery is like only putting brakes on one wheel. Both batteries are installed at the same time, used at the same time and therefore changed at one time, it only makes sense to do it this way.
And… the new battery will age prematurely being taxed by the weaker battery
Wait, what? That makes no sense whatsoever. On many rigs the batteries are NOT used equally so just date the battery and watch for a performance drop...which can take many years,

Loved The Cabot Trail...breathe taking views...thanks for sharing
One way, two way, three way, it sounds like you may have a "no way" ...😊
More great content as usual! It's so satisfying knowing that you love what you are doing. Thank you for taking the time to share with all of us!
Never been to Nova Scotia, so this has been a lot of fun to watch. Beautiful scenery and amazing video work (as always)!
Great continued journeys around Nova Scotia surround - memories for all & "subscriber me" 😁😘
We watched this last night after we finished hiking the Skyline Trail for my husbands birthday 😊
Mark, I know we’re all brand loyal when it comes to trucks, but I really think you should give another brand a look. Chevy for 1 has no death wobble since it uses an independent front suspension and Ram has a mechanical locker and variable exhaust break. Love the videos!
When I start my F350 the dash tells me all those things, also that my taxes are due, I have a dental appointment and I should call my mother.
Rain! Ugh. We intended to be in Maine through July and August. Three straight weeks of rain later, we canceled plans and are heading south!!
Yes without a doubt change them both!!!!
Youth is wasted on the youth. You got this Mark.
Our golden seemed to dislike both our diesel trucks. He loved going with us but was not stressed in any of our gas rigs. I always wondered if it was the sound of engine.
Great video, thank you for sharing and the positive attitude.
What a beautiful place. Fantastic. My Dad's family was from there.
Love you showed your speedometer on the descents.
We were there last month and would go back in a heartbeat! Those views never get old!!
That’s what we were told. But pretty easy to cross the street when needed. At least we thought.
I so appreciate you telling us the direction to drive Cabot Trail for the best experience!
The only way to do it wrong is to not do it at all.
Thank you so very much. This video was amazing. So beautiful and I am watching a second time! Yes!
Hey have the same truck was having a lot of the same issues did batteries and it fixed everything. But you need to do both batteries not just one. You will start to have more issues.
Happy Sunday everyone! Love yall 3000!
Katniss about to jump out of that forest with her bow and arrow! haha! great video as always
I believe there is also a BMS (battery management system) that has to get reset. It keeps tracks of your battery age, cycles, charge level, etc.
Black flies are in northern NE as well but usually in May. Ouch.
Thanks for the great video and going there in 3 weeks to do the Cabot Trail on our Spyder!🥰👍
Others mentioned this already, but you should always change them both .....now the old battery is making the new one work harder........
Also your horn at the beginning.....what is it and where did you get it?
One more thing......keep the Ford....you have a work horse there.
Always ABSOLUTELY Amazing! Best of Luck at RAGBRI...KeepCalm&CycleOn🚴♂️
Also watched Eamon and Bec... they were at the Skyline Trail too. And the couple Adventures of A + K are at RAGBRI.
Great video. The views were outstanding. How many times did Caleb lap ya on that hill :)
Thank you for bringing up that great discussion point about always change all batteries unless they all are relatively new.
