I was researching NA-T builds and alternate transmissions for my 1994 NA Supra, and I came across your channel a while back, I have to say, I really appreciate the content. Especially this one. Most swaps are the cd009, like you said and that is starting to get out of my price range for a budget build.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! It’s hard to keep any build budget haha. You still have to spend $1500 on the adapter and clutch/pressure plate for the bmw trans, but you’d have to do the same thing for a cd009. So starting with a readily available $150 junkyard trans definitely makes it cheaper
@@streetinfamy ever heard of the AR5 swap? That's another one I might be interested in, not sure if it would work for your application.

Super interesting build! I have a 98 Z31 (3.0 VVTI) Automatic Soarer that I'll be going NA-T with once I'm stateside again. Keeping the automatic and having it built to handle power. Going for 450HP with high compression and low boost so I can work within the limitations of the stock oil system, and I'm essentially just upgrading to stronger rods and forged pistons. Been watching every NA-T conversion video and lurking every thread on the internet and your series was seriously helpful with the small stuff like the tools and bits that will be needed as well as showing every little piece coming apart so we can see the seals, etc. Appreciate you man! Sick, Sick build. You're taking the best of BMW and Toyota and putting them together amazingly, which BMW and Toyota couldn't manage themselves haha!

I saw your 2JZ GE comparison vid earlier this year. I knew I'd need another 2jz engine to build it right. Wasnt til months later on a whim went out of state. Got a non vvti decent mileage. Days before 2022 totaled the vvti daily. here I am watching your every step on your journey so that I can pull vvti head and everything to later build a beast!

@@Teysik it's a bummer but its helped the rubber meet the road, so to speak! Budget isn't ready for a project but after watching vids, getting knowledge I'm slightly better versed to figure it out. Thanks for your attention to detail in the vids keep it up

Looks like a gs6-53dz, first and second are pretty short, hope your diff matches them well.
It’s a BMW ZF S5-31 5 speed, it has very similar ratios to the getrag that was in the car, it’s just a lot stronger. I have both a 3.15 and a 3.91 diff that I switch out depending on the track I’m going too.
I've been watching all of your videos. By any chance, would you make another engine like this, on sale? Either way, great content.
RAD industry makes a adapter to mount the gte top half of the intake to the ge bottom it's 250$ but its billet and rad dan makes quality stuff.
There’s other companies that make it too. The adapter is a bit pricey, but getting a gte intake these days with the throttle body is really pricey.
not a lot of good budget 2jz info keep it up this was very helpfull. Ill be turbo'ing my factory manual sc300 in the coming months

Hello! Doing a manual swap transmission, i’ve read that some people used a bmw dual mass flywheel that just bolt into the 2jz but dont know if its true… can someone put some light on ?
And for the tranny im using a e46 320d 6speed on my gs300 96’
Weld a aluminum tube that has a 90 plus weld the an fitting to the other end

PRO TIP! Use red grease when putting seals in, will help a lot with install!! once installed, wipe excess grease.

It’s the ZF 5 speed from a 90’s e36 328i. Also came in some e46s and a couple others. Google which cars the ZF 5 speed came in, there’s articles about it

If you run across what driveshaft to use for an is300 with this transmission can you link it?
You can get an adapter to connect a normal 4 bolt drive shaft to the trans. Then just get a custom driveshaft made to whatever length you need

you are not supposed to use the outside spacer on the flex plate. the website says so. I don't know if you caught this or not..

Yah I truly don’t know. Either way I think it’s negligible. Vvti more than makes up for and loss in air flow by providing much better torque numbers

I don’t believe they are the exact same part, but they’re supposed to have the same level of strength

Would this transmission fit in a is300?
It’s one of the smallest transmissions around. You can definitely make it fit, but some modifications to the tunnel might have to be made
What other options did you look into for this build? And what car is this off of?
What kind of options do you mean? The engines came out of an SC300 and GS300

@@AngelGarcia-zd8gu for the JZ none really. Cd009 is an option but they’re expensive and huge. Could do a JZ tranny but the good ones are rare and expensive. Could do t56, but again, expensive. An AR5 might be a good option but I haven’t looked into those much for a JZ

What is the model number for your bmw transmission? Like what models carry it so I can yank one myself
E36 328i and e46 330i for sure. There’s several other models. Just fine bmw ZF 5 speed on Wikipedia
@@Teysik I appreciate the reply, is there a reason you went with 5 speed rather than the 6 speed? I am assuming it cant hold as much power?
@@JonathanMai the 5 speed is easier to find. The 5 speed and 6 speed ZFs hold a similar amount of power. The getrag 6 speed can hold a lot more but I believe that only came in e46 m3s so a lot harder to find. For a pure race car like mine, I would never use 6th gear anyways
@@Teysik how much horsepower can the vvti head swap on nonvvti ge block handle? and what goes first? im guessing pistons/rods or top end?
@@JonathanMai top end is bulletproof if you don’t rev it to high. Usually piston ring lands go first. 500-700 is common reliably

I think a problem I’m going to be running into is with the transmission. Since the short block is from a 94 gs300, it was used with the a340 transmission where as my current 1999 gs300 uses the six speed a650e trans. Being honest I do not know how to drive manual, so I was looking to stay automatic for now until I learn. Should I get the a340 4speed or would I be able to use the trans I already have? Upgrading it of course to handle more power. Not sure where to go at that point. If you might have an idea I’d love to hear it!
They should all be compatible, you just might need the flywheel and torque converter from whichever trans you’re using. If I were you I would just use the manual though. You’ll learn fast. Just rev it up and dump the clutch if you have to lol
@@Teysik I’ve seen the 350z 6 speed swap is one that has a conversion kit, looks fairly easy to do maybe I’ll do that. I’ll see if I can find one at a junk yard. Thanks!
@@Diabetic_Deity odds of finding one at a junkyard are very slim, and buying one used they’re over $1000. BMW trans is a better option but they probably don’t make a trans mount for your car

What's the difference between an Amazon turbo kit and an Ebay turbo kit?
Probably nothing haha. Just depends on who makes it. Lots of reputable companies sell turbo kits on both eBay and Amazon
@@Teysik the way it comes out from different channels, it gives the feeling that when someone purchases on Ebay the item is inferior in comparison to purchasing from other sources...example, some channels share the opinion that ebay turbo kits are not as reliable... ????🤷♂️
@@peoplesambassadordm8279 eBay definitely gets a bad rep, just stay away from the “no name” stuff. But Amazon has a lot of the same cheap no name products
How much hp can a the is300 auto trans hold ?
According to a google search, 350-400whp. I have no experience with it

@@Ionknoboi the six speed is a little better, especially for street driving. But it’s a lot harder to find, so I recommend the 5 speed
