I have been married 41 years to a wonderful man. It has been 41 happy years. One of my daughters married a man and honored him but after they married he stopped going to church, became verbally and sometimes physically abusive to the kids. She tried pushing for counseling and we spoke to them hundreds of times. This man literally became a different person within weeks of getting married. Our daughter stuck it out 12 years until CPS got involved. She asked him to leave. They lived in a family owned place and we actually had to evict him. This was two years ago. The divorce is not final but he seems to think she will take him back but he does nothing to facilitate this. He was all talk and NO action except for abuse.

most churches and pastors do not require premarital counseling...the Catholic Church does, but when my husband and I got married in a classical Pentecostal church 33 years ago, we had ONE lunch meeting with the Pastor, with NO real substantial conversation about anything pertaining to God's ideal of marriage. It's a literal miracle It's lasted as long as it has.🙄

So important when you dating, before marriage & during marriage.
    Most churches never teach.
Prevention is better than cure to manage your expection.

I begged for marriage counseling, marriage retreats, etc. I asked for weekends away. I’m divorced 14 years now. A few years ago we tried to date again. Yea….no. But I was a good wife. Our breakup surprised everyone because I honored him in front of others.

this is so sad because it is an all too common story regarding the pride of church men. pride keeps them from counseling

Thank you for the clarification about the word abuse. It's way overused in our society. It becomes a buzzword that automatically makes someone a victim. In fact, I'd say the use of this word has been abused.

Neglect and ignoring needs is abuse too.

No spouse should be dependent on the other to fulfill their needs. A needs based relationship will never be a successful one. Once one spouse's needs change, then they say they don't love the other person anymore, and they file for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The truth is, they don't need the other anymore. Jesus should fulfill 100% of our "needs."

@karinteeples9715 Are we not supposed to be dependent on God for everything? Why would Paul say it's better not to marry if we, in fact, NEED the other person. Seems contradictory to the basic tenets of scripture.

Thank you for this word! 14 years together,2 yrs married, and 5 saved with the Lord. I was always taught "you don't need a man" so I had such an ugly view on men. The word submit was such a bad word to me. But thank the Lord and my pastors at church for helping to show me the right way to act. I love submitting to my husband now❤

Seriously this is not rocket science but unfortunately we get it wrong so often. We really need a massive revelation of our positions in our marriage. When we really understand our place as a woman and as a man it can be really beautiful and positive. Wish I had have known this before my husband and l split up
12 years ago. But believing in our restoration.

How do you submit to your husband when you know they do not believe in prophecy and says that "the power given to apostles stopped with the apostles; that women cannot preach to men, only women and children; that women are never to be considered as elders of the church; and....that authority comes from God and if we try to exercise our authority by binding and loosing, and says praying in tongues is not for now, that it also ended with apostles...not to mention interceding/binding and loosing in prayer, I get labeled that I think I am my own God. I love him, but I cannot submit to what I understand with all my heart and through the Holy Ghost discernment that is coming from a religious spirit and not of God - how do I honor that? I have been praying for scales to come off, for the truth to set us both free. I won't even touch the cursing me and verbal abuse - I need to know how to keep believing through the muck. I have learned to not argue - and know its not up to me to teach him, it's Holy Spirit's job. I still want to honor God by doing his will and honor my covenant - I am far from perfect, but I long to be able to pray together without confrontational manifestations, I long to walk into all that Jesus died for us - in the fullness and love of Christ! Please pray for wisdom here!

Now days modern women call everything abuse . If man doesn’t let her put in appropriate pictures of herself on social media, he doesn’t want her to dress inappropriately, or he doesn’t want her to be with bad friends that have bad influence on her and so on , any rules or boundaries that man tries to establish in The family she will call abuse and control.
