Math is the language of science, it is interchangeable throughout all avenues of sciences, such as chemistry, physics, psychology all must be interchangeable and communicable and the language used for this is math. I don’t know how well I described it, but when this clicks in your mind you will realize just how crucial math is and how pertinent it is to understand it if you truly want to understand any o the sciences, especially sciences related to the human brain, the most complex thing in the entire universe.

John said that he just made up 24 and 12 as a concrete example of why you divide by the standard deviation. If you want to know how many dozen eggs are in 24, you divide 24 by the number in a dozen eggs (12). If you want the number of standard deviations present, you divide the total difference between you score and the average by the number in a standard deviation. Hope that helps!
