- Learning statistics doesn’t need to be difficult. This introduction to stats will give you an understanding of how to apply statistical tests to different types of data. You’ll learn about numeric and categorical data and gain an understanding of when to apply a t-test, a chi-square test, ANOVA, and a correlation test. You’ll also learn about hypothesis testing and the p-value. If you’re new to quantitative research or data science, you’ll find this an extremely useful introduction to statistics.

@@bhargawidhomane4063 why?
I think the reason why people find statistics (and math in general) daunting is because usually lecturers and textbooks present the big scary formulas in the first step, and that puts up a mental barrier of understanding with the student. You've explained it very well here without introducing any formulas. Of course, eventually we do need the formulas, but it's far more important to get a grasp of what and why we are doing it first, and then the formulas come in.
Thank you for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed it!
Exactly !

Really great breakdown.
I have a question. All of these methods test for statistical significance based on a sample or samples selected at random.
but I can’t get past the problem here. All sampling is not random. There is always some form of selection bias. Method of data selection, availability of data being sampled, voluntary participation biases, …. These degrade randomness, meaning samples are not selected at random from any population.
Wouldn’t that effect the validity of theses significance tests??
Execatly. Even they don't don't know real life usages. They have just learned formulae.
Then you struggle to let you brain figure out but still it assumes that was meant for rocket scientists.
This is like being pulled out of the statistics 101 forest straight up by a helicopter, seeing the landscape for the first time, and then looking down and realizing you've been walking in circles the whole time lol! Brilliant explanation!
Exactly!!!
The most productive 12:49 minutes in my student life so far :p
I agree !!!
Absolutely
Agree!!!
Great submission 👌
This video is incredible! I was panicking thinking the statistics I needed to do for my research project was going to be absolute trash because I didn't exactly know which test was appropriate for my data set. THANK YOU x100. I'm so relieved.. AND IT MAKES SENSE
ikr there's a test ahead , and watching this video feel like catching back up an entire course
Thanks for the feedback Cat.
And M109 😀
yes yes YES! Thank you!! I am analysing cooling curves of Tea for my coursework, and your vid helped clarify the entire topic for my course :)
I’d just add THANK YOU x1million
Simple, concise, easy to follow and most importantly encouraging that Statistics can be tackled and understood by anyone as long as it is taught right. Keep up good work man and thanks to your sponsors.
Thanks Torku - I appreciate the feedback. :)
Thank you for this video. It's very simple , lucid and easy to understand

No words in this word can describe how much I appreciate the existence of this video. This is among the few of the BEST educational videos I have seen on this platform, or any other platforms....I was taking notes all along, and it serves as an incredibly clear outline for introduction of statistics for someone who has never taken a statistics course but needs it for research. This is the type of video I will 100/100 recommend to others when they need a summery like me. No joke, top 1 on my list, 100% will recommend. I mean, the video itself, the representation, everything is perfect to the point I really, really have no idea how this popped up in my recommendation and only has some nine thousand views!!!! All statistics students, even non statistics student should see this......!! This is the type of content I would wish I can make if I do start making educational videos one day!!! Thank you for being such an inspiration!!!!!!!!
agree, all educators should have watch this video
This is hands down the best thing I've ever watched for the past week.
Fantastic video explanation. I understood all in 12 minutes what I did not understand during 1 semester. Thank you, Greg.
I know, right. It seems universities are making it more complicated than it is.
I still don’t understand chi-squared test though and the other videos are tough as well… any recommendations for a simple tutorial?
This is the absolute best breakdown of statistics I've ever seen!
Yes, indeed! I cannot even imagine anything better!!
100%

Hey!! To all students out there who are facing problem while testing hypothesis (Z test, t test, Chi test and F test and also non parametric test) please mail your homework and I will do it with all explanation and with perfection. My mail id is pandeynamrata823@gmail.com.
You're a gifted teacher! It's that simple!
Wow! I was looking for this summary my whole academic life. Thank you... now you have saved me from retaking a biostatistics course which was all about calculations but not the concepts.
Thank you Greg and your sponsors for this video, it was easy to follow without the need of filtering through statistical jargon! Much appreciated.
THIS WAS SO USEFUL! I've been so deep into trying to understand statistics that I didn't know where to go anymore, this is what I needed. Back to understanding the basics.
absolutely amazing. I have always believed that mathematics, logic, statistics are extremely easy subjects to comprehend. It is only the instructors who teach in complicated ways what is actually simple. Thanks a lot for this video!
Thank you. I struggle with understanding and learning anything numbers-based. This video has been immensely helpful
I've been going crazy trying to figure this all out for an assignment. I wish this was explained to me like this 10 years ago!!! thanks so much for sharing
This is such a helpful video!!!!
I've been so confused in my last few classes (biology and we're also doing the same thing in maths!) - and think this video is really gonna give me the grounding I need to understand what I need to learn.
Probably because this type of statistics is something completely new to me, it is hard to wrap my head around, but you going at an easy pace and also repeating the concept for every example really helped. Many many thanks!
I agree, this is fantastic. You should have taught my stats workshops at uni! Would have understood this in a fraction of the time. This video has saved me a lot of note trawling and fitting together the puzzle pieces
I haven't seen such an amazing, clear and precise tutorial. OMG
I am studying Bio-Stats for USMLE and this made it that much more digestible, thank you. Thank you to your sponsor as well for making this happen :)
This is exactly what I am looking for, the beauty of visualization presentation with an excellent narration explanation. Thanks Greg Martin.
You are most welcome Mohamed. Glad you liked it. :)
A good overview of what I am learning from past 2 semesters of my course in just 12.50 minutes...Great work😎
In few minutes I understood what my teacher try to explain to me during the entire semester .
Thank a lot
I normally watch videos like this at 1.75 speed to save time, but I definitely slowed down for this one - taking notes as well. This is a well organized, useful, and well explained overview!
This was really helpful! Just started my masters in Global Health and things are much clearer now :) Thanks a lot!
When you said statistics made easy, you weren't kidding. I really needed this, thank you!
This is exactly the type of information I was hoping to find. You make this concept above understandable for those visual learners. I’m definitely going to check out R-programming with you.
OMG,this saves my life as a freshmen in the data analysis introduction stage.
Sir, God bless you for this explanation. You just made my life so much easier
Thank you so much! Teaching the simple principles BEFORE the mathematical proofs gives the big picture, so student's don't get buried in the trees and lose sight of the forest. You give students the bird's eye view. There are other smart people like you, but the difference is that you can pass your understanding of a challenging concept to a student.
this video did in 12 minutes what my professor couldn't in 1 lecture. Thank you so much. Your video is a life-saver. You got a sub right here.
The best! this was a 2 months course in my post-grad studies and he discussed it effectively in 12 minutes!!!!
This is (in my opinion) the role model approach to explain a complex problem, simplify it and ultimately understand it. I am sure there are a lot of more technical details behind it but it is not necessary to communicate them in order to understand the main message of the video. Thanks much for setting such an elegant example. This is encouraging for myself to pursue and do something similar. Once again thanks for the content, very illustrative.
Generally, I'm not good with numbers esp. complicated computations.
Videos such as this withdraws me from that traumatic experience that I had with learning Statistics & Mathematics.
I'm 37 years old! And I'm in the process of reviewing & relearning Statistics & Mathrmatics. But this time, in a manner that is made easy-to-understand.
I love how you explain the whole Statistics and I was able to understand it in 12 minutes! You are so amazing!
Thank you so much! I was writing a paper for school and was having such a hard time with the p value, this cleared it up so beautifully! Thank you for your clear and very helpful video!
This a really good summary for those who know about this already. I would appreciated a longer more in-depth version though.
And for those who don't really know about this too!!!!
Love the sounds and look and feel, very clear explanation, thank you!
You are indeed a gift to the world! I have purchased stats books and a whole semester wasted learning stats and l am still unsure about most of it. I wish you had made this video at the beginning of ny degree. Nonethless, a big thanks from me and l am so happy and grateful that BMC have sponsor this video.
Great reminder for me in my new role as i haven't used stats in over a year. Thank you, as always your videos are class.
I learn concepts much more easily when I can visualise them, thank-you so much!!
You remind me of Hal Emmerich from MGS 4. A genius! The editing of the video and your explanation are outstanding. Thank you!
You Sir are AMAZING!!!! This would've been so helpful earlier in my class, but I thank the heavens I found it before my final!! Thank you so much for this! I wish you could feel the weight lifted off my shoulders! Thank you a million times over!
Thank you so much! I have watched so many different videos and taken stats classes, and this video does such a wonderful job of explaining the concepts in a simple manner. Thank you!
Wow, such complicated stuff delivered in a very understandable way. Excellent!
I feel so regret that I haven't found this video last year. I chose statistics last year but couldn't actually get the high score cause I didn't know their differences, and this semester I am learning econometrics and felt like everything is messed up. But fortunately I have found this video and everything became so clear and crystal. You are a life savior. Thank you so much!!!
Dr. Martin, I am so glad I stumbled across your videos! First, I love the Irish accent. Second, your perspective of how statistics should be taught is so much better. The added visuals definitely are helpful in demonstrating how statistics does not have to be so hard.
Best stats video tutorial I've seen!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you - You explained this in simple terms that even I can understand. It could be marketed under the “for Dummies” flagship; however I feel much smarter now ;).
Outstanding job, Greg... from a statistician in the States.
"from the states", you say? i'm with the north american bureau of foreign approval and i'm afraid we won't be able to officially accept any praise or even acknowledgement until you are able to register the proper paperwork and provide two forms of identification.
incredulously,
☻🌎☻ bill cocknballs, MA BS
I'm a doctorate student and thought I'd brush up on my basic statistic skills, and this was a great video in consolidating my knowledge. Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you for a very simple and informative explanation. I've been studying Statistics in college and graduate studies but this is the first time my mind was enlightened. Great help!
You are unbeleivably good. I've searched far and wide for some of the understandings I got from this video and I'm eternally grateful
Wow - what a nice thing to say (thanks!!)
wow, what visual representation.. amazing.. wish my college professor taught this way
ammo ow
Greg, Mr Martin absolutely concur with the positive comments here: Pulled it all together for me at a higher understanding level of which statistical tests or functions to perform or use based on the potential combinations of the type of data you have. (Categorical or Numerical). The tests then resulting in if you would then reject or accept a null hypothesis. Loved it.
This is a wonderful, concise, and most importantly, easy to follow explanation of statistics!!! Thank you Greg!! I'll definitely look at more of your videos.
To be honest, none of the other youtube videos made me understand these as this video did. Hats off and thank you for the neat presentation. Please post many videos on handling data.
Fan boy of your graphical explanations from today ;)
Respected Sir, You make may day. Thank you so much.
What I have been scratching my head for 12 months explained in 12 minutes...Brilliant !! & Thank You :)
Thank you very much for this lesson. I had zero for Statistics until I saw your video. Thank you so much! You are such a life-saver !
Thank you! I needed to understand the concepts first. Going straight into the formulas has been very frustrating because I didn't understand what I was doing. Now everything is clearer. I want to hug you!
I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video!! Thanks for the lovely feedback
Clear and easy explanation, and a beautifully made video. Thanks a lot, Greg!
Thanks for the very kind comment and feedback Fernando! Much apprecaited.
Thank you! This was explained so clearly! Currently taking a statistics course and the lectures are a series of confusing unexplained formulas and random examples with little to no explanation other than plugging in numbers. This really cleared up a lot confusions!
This man just explained all the test statistics in 12 minutes. Only thing you forgot to mention is confidence intervals and inferential statistics, but other than that, this video is excellent.
Thank you! I found this video is extremely helpful! Perhaps the best one I have seen so far. Dr, do you have any upcoming plan to teach us more on statistics? Thank you!
Honestly, this is way better than the maths resources I've paid for
Glad you liked it Lilyella
Where have you been all my life, Mr. Martin? This is so great! I can help my students understand this now! Thank you!
So far the best instructor I've ever got! has just made this headache giving thing so simple! May Almighty bless you.
Thanks Greg for your hard work. It is very useful and has saved in my playlist for quick future reference while doing data analysis.
Thanks for the comment Maherukh :)
JUST LOVE THIS! NEVER HAVE I LISTENED TO SOMETHING SO ATTENTIVELY YOUR THE BEST STATISTICS GURU NO DOUBT GREG!
Simply the best Stat video on the whole of the interweb
Wow thanks!!
Such a simple way of explanation. I was amazed at the way these things r brought out. Thanks for the video Prof.
A video about health promotion and prevention would be highly appreciated
04:38 - the most valuable screen in this video, capture it if you can
thanks
Yes I agree!
I draw it in my notebook
i clicked it .....but while going through the comments i saw your coment and laughed a lot bro
@@ajaybhandari9215 many thanks, enjoy this excellent video =))))
This is without a doubt the best video out there. I believe it is because it has very clear animations to accompany it. ...I could literally run an inferential statistic on that now.
THIS IS THE MOST EASIER WAY TO APROACH AND GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING ABOUT STATISTICS. GREAT MATERIAL!!
Oh how I wish I had this video in undergrad and graduate school. Thank you!
You are more expert in video editing and graphic designing my whole attention was caught by each effect you applied, make a video on how you make animations,thank-u-sir
Same for me
If you're interested to learn about how to make graphics like this, check out "Castofly" at "ua-cam.com/video/gadk3fFFbb0/v-deo.html"
Where were you when I did my psych degree? This video explained everything I could never understand after months of lectures into 12:49. Good Job!
I was totally lost when I started my masters as thought of having a refresher. There was no clear lessons earned so I decided to search. I was lucky to have found your video and it gives me the confidence that I needed. Thank you so much, keep thriving!
This is one of the best video on statistics ..Thank you so much Greg Martin!!..it's going to help out many peoples who actualy wanna learn stats!! Lots of love from india🙏❤
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect, quick and clear.
Even as a dutch speaking person, this video was far more helpful than my statistics books. Thank you so much for making the theory clear! I struggled so hard with understanding the null hypothesis, but now I get it!
omg you are an absolute lifesaver!!! This is the first time I ever understand what these tests mean and how to use them.
Thank you so much!!!
This is a fantastic video, but after watching this several times, I realized that males and females are not actually circled at 3:07 as Greg indicates even though the colors of the icons are consistent with the circled areas. Furthermore, the summary table at 3:12 claims to have an upper range or 1.7 for males, but this value isn't actually in the data set on the left. I'm sure this was an honest mistake due to the wonderful graphical animations this video has. Nevertheless, It is still a very enjoyable, effective video. Thanks Greg!
Really a great teaching. This type of outline are needed before starting a statistics learning. Thanks
I`ve learnt more with this video than in three years of statistic classes. Thank god you exist
This is my first time to see big information in a short time. I highly appreciate the efforts and kindly request to prepare more information.
thing is my teacher stretches it out so much that by the end of the class you wonder what the hell it was about. Then when you look it up online there’s always someone explaining it in a few minutes. He makes it harder than it needs to be smh.
Im currently having that same issue smh.
I literally wrote down all you said.. Thanks for refreshing my statistics. Your video was really helpful.
Thank you mr martin. This is a very helpful learning resource. In my opinion, you look like a cross between Einstein (a great scientist, and mathematician to a significant extent) and Roald Dahl (one of the most imaginative and renowned modern novelists). Maybe that's why you are so successful at putting across the whole idea of mathematics so beautifully
Jesus, thank you so much for this. I feel like my life has been saved
You are most welcome. Glad you liked it.
Why did I find this video AFTER I failed the course😩😭
Greg - these are simply outstanding videos. The explanations are clear, crisp and to the point.
I need to thank the UA-cam algorithm for suggesting this video just as I was about to start analyzing data I collected for a study… You, sir, have just saved me from weeks of pain! Can’t thank you enough!
So nice of you to say - thanks for the great feedback!!
Great video. Next time without the background music please.
The background music on this video makes it very hard for me to concentrate, the content seems great so I'm sad i'm missing out. This is just a reminder to consider neurodivergent people's in your content :)
Wow, I am truly impressed by the quality of your content! Your videos are always so informative, engaging, and entertaining. I appreciate the time and effort you put into creating each and every video, and it definitely shows. Your passion for your topic shines through in every frame, and I always learn something new when I watch your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with the world, and for making such high-quality content available to everyone. Keep up the fantastic work!
This video is amazing. Ive watched so many videos on this and the differences and when to use is not clearly presented, or they are complicated. This is both very easy to understand and fun to follow. Amazing work, it helped me a lot.
