  • It’s easy to look at someone like Kate and wonder how she does it all. Between homemaking, homeschooling her five children, maintaining her Canada homestead, and running her successful online business, Kate’s plate is certainly full. In our conversation, we discuss the realities of what it looks like to manage all of these responsibilities well without burning yourself out. A little spoiler alert: Kate doesn’t do it all alone and neither do I! If you have a goal of pursuing a new opportunity-a business or homestead or some other dream-but you wonder how you will manage it all, may you be inspired by this honest look behind the scenes of the lives of two fellow homemakers and business owners.
    In this episode, we cover:
How Kate started her online business and grew it to where it is today
Scheduling work hours when you work from home
How to navigate seasons of burnout when your plate is full
Letting go of the pressure to do it all yourself
Setting boundaries in your business around what opportunities to pursue
The power of outsourcing in your business
A typical day in the life on Kate’s homestead
A hard look at wasting time and accomplishing your goals
One helpful tip for seasons of living in survival mode
    ABOUT KATE
Kate is a mom to five, living a ‘full time family’ life in Northern BC, Canada. Alongside her husband, Marius, they raise all their own meat, dairy and most of the vegetables too, and take you along for the ride on UA-cam and Instagram. Kate is a big believer in “keepin’ it real” and strives to show you what life for a homeschooling family of seven really looks like on a farm.

I've noticed the pattern with people who 'get stuff done.'...they have help. From a husband to family to older children... I'm by myself all day with little kids and barely anything get done( like I'm lucky if we clean something and make dinner most days).I've had to tell myself that I'm by myself and I'm only one person, I cant do more than the hours in the day. I just do the next important thing next and keep chugging along

Everyone starts out with babies - not helpful teens - and does the best they can in that season. The guest said that her business took off and then her husband quit his day job.

Same girl. Just keep breathing. We got this. Homeschool homestead home whatever. It is all necessary and it all has to be done and it means absolutely nothing when people flippantly say, “ well you might have to let some things go. “ like what?? lol seriously not helpful. But we keep moving! I listen to this podcast and the Homesteading Family among others and they have kept me moving forward. You got this. Keep breathing keep praising and praying. Some day the sun will shine again

I'm a little late listening to this but it's exactly what I needed. I work from home for my husband, have a toddler and I'm 33 weeks pregnant. I'm flat exhausted and I'm sitting here wondering why I'm failing and don't have the energy to get my garden seeds started etc. I just sold my ducks because I feel like I've got to much on my plate. I so needed this. Thank you both for being real and honest.

I was laughing so hard when you both were talking about not having “more” time when your husbands were home. It’s so true. My husband has to go out of town for work once a year and it is the time when I actually get the most done! Haha! ❤️

That was Huge for me! When Kate said do your hardest thing first. Dinner is My Hardest! I have made Dinner, right after making Breakfast. My Prayer is to be consistent with making Dinner in the Morning. The Other thing that Kate said, that really need to pray about and do is no Social Media from Friday night to Monday morning. As a Believer in Jesus, My Family and I have Scripture ready as a Family on Friday night. Then Observe Sabbath and have Bible Study on Saturday & rest! I need to seriously rest and not be on UA-cam.
My Husband was home for 9 months, because he lost his job…since he wasn’t submitting to mandates. He just got a new job the beginning of this week. Just don’t see it as permanent. We have been praying about moving to Missouri, from Oregon. We have a little Farm. We would like to be completely out of Debt(no house payment) that would be selling Our current home. Moving and paying cash for a New Home/acreage. Would be ideal for My Husband to be at home. He helped so much, when he was home( Made Awesome Breakfasts😉)

I appreciate this podcast so much!! A friend recommended this specific episode for me since I'm currently struggling with homesteading, homeschooling, a new UA-cam adventure, and just regular large family life. I love that you two gave detailed daily schedules and addressed hard issues with real, no frills answers. It was truly helpful and I think I may go back and listen a second time. I appreciate both of you so much! 💕

In the same boat here, first time mom to an 11 month old and have been feeling very overwhelmed, especially when I think of where I want to be with homesteading and home making. I am starting to inch out of that overwhelm feeling with more of a daily routine but it’s been a slow process.

My husband is deployed at his née job claims adjusting for the foreseeable future and I am living in a camper while we look for a house in our new town since we sold our house after he got fired due to the jab mandate. Burn out can really play a factor but we're so excited for the next chapter. Just feels good to hear from y'all even though our situations are different.

Wow, I'm on call from seven am to midnight for my job, but I get to be home, because I have 6 disabled people to watch not getting paid so I have to work. Both physically and mentally disabled which is very hard. 7 days a week. There are no vacations, no breaks and hardly any sleep. As long as have my coffee in the morning I'm good. I want to start a business but my soap making failed. I ended up with a lot of soap.

For me it sound like you noth are super women. this is amazing. I grew up in a family which my mom is a boomer, she is now 64 and she never cooked in her life, not to mention made bread. she only know how to consume things made in the supermarket of coffee shops. so for me it is taking a lot of time to learn everything. even cooking and usstain myself is some weeks a challenge, because as a child my mom always buy food that is made (which also a crapy food) and I am still learning to cook and bake and make stuff myself. I am doing good but I am doing one thing at a time. I find it hard to do things that do not relate to each other at the same time.
like I can make chickens wings and potatos or veggies at the same time, but to also post something online or answer an email that would be too much for me to do simultanisly...
the last complain I have is .... What do you do if you want to start a family and a farm but still struggle with your health? I have thyroid problem and it feels like "only if I would make my own food healthy I could get myself healthy,,, but I have no energy to do all of this.... ",.... so it is a loop problem. Do you all just healthy all the time?

Should I hire a house cleaner or do I hire a person to help manage my content? 😅 I’m struggling trying to grow my channel and blog- and manage made from scratch living. Whoosh.

Love this channel but think it’s ironic this is at 7 am! 😂 If I’m homesteading I’m going to be taking care of my kids and animals then, or preparing for school. If I’m already burnt out I’ll be sleeping if at all possible! 😂 I will be watching this later in the day. ⏰

You’re noticing that the interview is playing at 7am. That’s because Lisa (or anyone who makes a podcast) can record it, edit it, and then schedule it to play (publish) anytime they want. You can do the same thing with a blog post. It is the magic of technology these days! 😊

Lol - Homer Simpson lowered the bar for the expectations of men/fathers. (Along with toxic feminism - most men depicted in TV shoes & movies are incompeten; idiots.) Also, interestingly, I heard - this is why the series of "The Sopranos" failed, (not sure if it was due to new writers but) the main character (male) that was originally a bad-ass put together & tough gangster (successful albeit a criminal), started to fall apart in the end - f-ing up, being an incompetent dunce - and the show lost its audience.
