    IN This Particular Episode of "RHODA" :
    The Actor playing the Role of the man who is the FIRST man to Dance with RHODA when there is a public announcement over the Loudspeakers in the Dance-Hall sequence, where Rhoda and Joe are told to "Change Partners" Rhoda's "New" Dance Partner is played by Charles Lane ( Who appeared in Motion Pictures from 1930 and then later on Television, between the years 1930 and 2006. He lived to reach 102 Years of age...when he closed his eyes and passed away.
    You may recall him from many Movies and TV Shows, in TV's "Petticoat Junction" he was the grumpy Railway-Official that was intent of Closing Down the Railway-Line...do you remember him ?

      Nancy Walker did several shows practically at the same time. McMillan & Wife, Blansky's Beauties, Rhoda, are three of them, along with numerous guest appearances, and a whole sack full of Bounty commercials (the quicker picker-upper). Very busy actress. Doris Roberts was like that too.

    This is the starting theme of this show that I like. It is funny, and briefly explains about herself. I have always thought the writers should have just had Rhoda and Joe contented to date or have their marriage a success. I don't know why Joe was such a dick about commitment later, I have known people who were married a third time and it was a success. Ida's interferences didn't help any, either. She was obsessed with marriage. Brenda was often in their apt., even to ask Rhoda for advice on what to wear. Yeesh! I would hate that ship cabin, and that ship. It's a cruise for people over age 70.

    • @ericminch
      @ericminch 2 роки тому +2

      This is so funny, reading you arguing with the characters, who were created by the writers. And they say today's youth is out of touch with reality because of all their screen time on computer games and social media. That's nothing compared to all the folks who believe the people on TV are real. That's probably how Tr*mp got elected: "Hey, I'm on TV! Wouldn't you like your favorite TV star to be president?"

    • @sweetbeauty2153
      @sweetbeauty2153 2 місяці тому +2

      @michellepost I agree, especially the part about the Ida character. Rhoda's mom was very annoying and irritating as h*##. Rhoda's dad and sister were sweet and adorable. Joe and Rhoda should have dated for awhile. He really didn't want to get married again and felt pressured by Rhoda. She should have just left that issue alone and just been content to just get to know Joe a lot better. I do recall him telling her straight out in one episode that he didn't want to be married again though.

    Rhoda's personality changed from The Mary Tyler Show. She was so acerbic and sarcastic and tough. But here, she's average and her delivery is weak. I bet, as the star, it wasn't acceptable for her to be that quirky, so she had to be sweet and more passive. She's not Rhoda at all in this show. But her sister is fantastic, her sister's boyfriend, and her mother are all interesting and funny. You lose something and you gain something.

      renee braxton that’s right they used innuendo’s and didn’t blatantly say the obnoxious filthy things they say nowadays-on tv. They were careful because younger people may watch these shows. Some things went over my head as a teenager, we were greener back then. No internet or cable tv. Miss this kind of television.

      Christian _person I just watched the movie The Boss and was pretty shocked especially as it seemed to be about a girls entrepreneurial business, lots of violence and weird overly sexual stuff said,sad. Watching this for a good old days easy time.

      Bonnie Denouden you obviously didn’t live around the 70’s, her character was very “artsy” and eclectic, that’s why the scarves was her signature luck.
      This was also the disco age. Her character was self employed. It isn’t your taste , but the different scarf styles looked nice on her in my opinion and obviously the fans. Otherwise they would have changed this.

      David Groh was slightly older than Valerie Harper in real life, he was born on the 21st of May, 1939 (he passed away on the 12th of February, 2008) whereas Valerie Harper was born on the 22nd of August, 1939 (she passed away on the 30th of August, 2019). In 1974 they would have both been 35 (only a difference of three months, which is nothing really).

      Justin W you can’t compare shows made in different decades. Plus the writing was totally different. This was a popular show at the time. There was also no cable or internet. People had different taste from for comedy at that time.

      I think it also depends on your age and the memories you associate with that time, I used to watch watch particular TV shows with my Mum and Dad in the early 70's when I was a teenager - they are both long gone now so all I have is memories of them and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has memories attached to a place in time or particular TV shows.
