Ah yes, a mother to snoop into your private drawers, trying to find embarrassing or personal items, re-arrange all your things so you can't find them and you can't function. A mother to judge you, and covertly shame you, insinuating that you are dirty, lazy, and uncaring. A mother to tell you your life decisions aren't good enough. A mother to hold her "selfless" servitude over your head to use as currency to control and manipulate you with later. They make manipulative, gossiping, controlling mothers look cute on Rhoda, but trust me, it ain't cute in real life. I'd rather just do my own laundry. It's much less of a heavy load. Be careful what you wish for.
Rhoda was a very negative, argumentive person I could barely stomach to watch. No clue how this character became likeable. I wouldn't want her near me if a real person.
Always watched Rhoda every Monday night. Loved her on Mary Tyler Moores show. I adored her on her own show. they don't make great comedy like this anymore! What a shame.
Volunteering as a candy striper is a GREAT & very fulfilling job. I did it for awhile & I loved it. EVERYONE should try volunteering sometime. Great character builder.
I asked my mom, a young teenager during WWII, what the Hut Sut Song is. She sang a little bit of it which prompted me to pull it up on UA-cam. Now I can appreciate Rhoda's comment (21:38) about Ida having danced to it when she was a sweet young thing. The song reached #3 on the charts in 1941 when it was released. I had two good friends in HS who were about Ida's size. They used to do the Lollipop Guild song and dance from "The Wizard of Oz" and it never failed to crack up everyone who saw it. Useless trivia, I know, but Ida always makes me think of those two precious girls who both died way too soon. She also reminds me of my late grandmother. Tiny, stubborn and very determined.
As much as i love this show, I can't help thinking, that by 1974 or 5, when this show aired (and I watched every week) there was no way a little old white Jewish lady was gonna be riding the D train back to the Bronx late in the evening. And by this time, there were very few Jews left on the Grand Concourse anyway. There was a mass exodus in the late 60s and early 70s.
Just love Rhoda. ❤. Before my mom would visit, I would clean. When I went to work, she would reclean. Guess my cleaning was not up to her standards. And she would snoop, she did that with my sister, snoop.
Rhoda acts like she has a high powered career, with no time to pee. Ida is really pretty. I like her hair. Joe always seemed to like Ida. I thought it was awful when Rhoda and Brenda teased Ida for being a candy striper. They were not just teen girls, many were women over age 50. They did alot of shit work that was rarely appreciated, and for no pay. Ida could always get her GED.
Mickey, the hospital patient, was played by Frank Campanella. I believe he was the brother of Joe Campanella, the actor who played the ex-husband of Ann Romano, on the sitcom One Day At A Time. Joe Campanella also played Tom Vernon, an old boyfriend of Mary's, on the MTM show. He was only in one episode. Ted Bessell (Joe Warner), and Michael Tolan (Dan Whitfield), got to be in a few episodes each, before disappearing into sitcom history.
Michelle Post See, l like the bric a brac, when it's tidy. My friend decorates minimalist and finds my 'retro stuff' maddening, but it's as close to returning to the 70's as l can get without a time machine.
Hilarious. So funny when Brenda said her mom cleaned her lightbulb and peephole. Rhoda acts like she is a whiz at her job, but she must have gone out of business because she later works for Jack. I thought Ida was sweet, I never understood why Brenda and Rhoda had such ill feelings toward her. It was a great thing for Ida to be a candystriper. I always thought those striped pinafores were cute. Alot of housewives and retired women in cities did volunteer work, especially in the 1970s.
The cleaning was always for Ida to stay connected to her daughters as they aged but also a way to control them & to snoop. SOMETIMES SEEN AS BEING 'TO INVOLVED '.
I’ll say this again like I’ve said on every Post. When the Producer fired Groh (Joe) He made a very BIG MISTAKE!! The Show went downhill real quick.. it went from an ALL TIME SHOW TO a real Klunker of a show in just 2 years!!! Very depressing!!
Ida is kind of a sh** disturber. She tries to undermine Rhoda's confidence in her marriage, get Joe to find fault with Rhoda as a wife, and criticize Brenda's housekeeping abilities. I just realized that Ida was not invited to Rhoda's bridal shower. Maybe the above are some of the reasons why. Her absence was never explained. Brenda did the invitations. Hmmm.
Ida should start a cleaning company. There a big jump in home cleaning. I used to do the same thing. I used work as a custodian for the school system. It's hard work. Having to do a bunch of bathrooms. You get used to the work.
No idea how Rhoda's character became likeable. She was constantly negetive and complained and argued about everything. I can't imagine how anyone would want to live with a person like Rhoda. I could barely stomach watching the show on tv when bored and nothing else on tv Can you imagine being stuck with living with a Rhoda character?
This is a great slice of time role for Nancy Walker’s character. I’d like to put Nancy Walker and Rush Limbaugh in a bag and see how many pieces of Rush come out after Nancy is done with him.
Obviously the will and grace writers stole the Myrna character and turned her into Karen... grace's sidekick at work (who never really worked) with the high, squeaky voice!!! They surly did!!!
Learning to be , proving to be what we always in our potential shines thru . Past the judgement of others even family housework came to be disdained by a generation. They forgot the training ground in all areas of Nessie city. 👌🏾🌷🦹🏾♂️💕
It's a pity the character of Joe is slowly slipping away from being the head of the family role. Blame the female writer of this episode. Then again it is Rhoda's show. Everyone wanted to see more of the main character otherwise it wouldn't have been popular.
30 years ago today, March 25, 1992, we lost the wonderful, funny, talented, Nancy Walker. RIP to a legend.
Loved Nancy Walker. Ida Morganstern was a character who used guilt to treat her children end make them do what she wanted.
I'd have been more than delighted if I had a mother who'd come clean my house whilst I'm gone 😀😊😍😍🌺🌺🌺.
Oh so agree!!!
Me too!!

Nancy Walker just the best xoxo
I think it's sweet N Nice of her to help clean. I feel bad for IDA in this episode. Her heart was in the right place. She was just lonely and bored.

@Jeff di Giusto. Ida was an awesome mom!!❤️🙏
The hell they don’t! Although Ida definitely came from a place of love 💕

Not useless..great info for those of us that didn't catch it..
Great story, thank you for sharing 😀❤️
She could start a cleaning business. She make a fortune. Now days just about needs somebody a cleaning person.
This was a cute episode for once focusing on something other than their marital problems
Being around Nancy Walkers age, I wish I still had my figure. She looked fantastic at her age
There is no excuse fir Walker not receiving an academy award fir this role. Extraordinary acting.
You mean an Emmy, not an Academy Award, which is for film.
Except that it's a TV show and not a film
Classic tv shows like this are no longer made
If they were still made today, they wouldn't be classic. 😊
Thank you for putting the air date.
I love Myrna's leather outfit at the end, and she looks great in it.
Oh my that scene when Valerie help her on to the bed is priceless..
"My marriage is not in danger." Not yet!
Anyone with someone like her inbtjeir life is blessed! Gets right to the point but with love!
My mother lives with us, and my house is always clean. That's one of the benefits of having my mother live with us as she gets older.
Still missing U miss Valerie Harper 👑🌟
I'm fallin asleep with Rhoda tonight!😊💕🌃🌉🌌😴📺
Me too!!
What a nice mom to clean their homes bc they couldn’t do it due to their jobs. How thoughtful
I thought the same thing. That's something my mother would have done.😊
My Mom was a hoarder. She would have brought clutter. But she did give me so much. Intelligence, humor, and a genetic propensity to hoard.
My mom died when I was very young. I would have given anything to have my mom. She would have done the same for me. She was always giving of herself.
Rhoda should have done it though, it’s her duty

It's never too late to finish high school!
Nancy Walker, aka Ida Morgenstern, aka Rosie the waitress for Bounty, “the quicker picker upper!”
aka Mildred the housekeeper, McMillan and Wife
Yeeah!!! I always think of her getting tangled up in the phone cord. (McMillan and Wife )
Forgot her name was Rosie! Thanks
I normally like this show. But the way they treated their Mother was the pits. Tho they did redeem themselves by apologizing to her.
Am sad now to watch this show and know she has passed away :(
Ida the elf strikes again!!!🤣

Ida would've been a funny mom to have, her wit is hilarious.I like Rhode and Joe's apt. but would hate all that clutter! I'm an organized neat freak.

My mother is basically a Protestant version of Ida.
I think my own Mom was the Irish Catholic version of Ida, that and she had hands like hams.
Ida and Rhoda were both Irish in real life...

Typical of possibly a narcissist. I have a lifetime degree in that since my mom was a narc. They're not happy til they make everybody else miserable.
Thats the only problem. You can't find a thing when someone else cleans.
A parent like her is a blessing. They forever complaining on here
Nosy, controlling, bossy...but hidden by the "helpful" thing
No, thanks. I'll clean my own place--or not.

When nurses wore respectable clothes instead of the big huge scrubs with butterflies on them
I'm a nurse Josh and I couldn't agree more!!!
Or pumpkins or turkeys or Christmas trees. I think it started with Pediatrics and scrubs. The white nursing uniform was truly respectable
I used to clean my mothers house. What when wrong? I should have seen this episode years ago!
Miss these old shows life used to be good , now the country is falling apart
Just pull the apron to the front, get some needle nosed pliers and pull out the knot! Don't cut it.
Brenda and Rhoda are mean in this episode! They demean Ida.
Where do you think they got it from. Although "mean" is too strong of a word. U sound hyper-sensitive .
Sandra Jovic Could be. Mean-spirited....sensitive, could be.
I noticed that, too. It seemed out of character for both of them.
i felt sorry for ida , i found rhoda and brenda insulting in this episode
tara lang Ida is pretty insulting overall.
Finally someone not falling down and kissing the characters ass.
They probably just weren't used to their mother working.
The feeb from MTM is in this episode.
You mean Rhoda? I always kind of liked her.
How could Ida be a teenager in WW2 and in high school when Rhoda was supposed to have been born in Dec 1941 which was the beginning of WW2
That’s right. Jeez. There are lots of inconsistencies in the writing.
@@revolutionaryviews9702 even in the intro of the first seasons she said she always felt responsible for WWII

Paper towels I think.

Weren’t all three lead characters gender inverted blokes?
Rhoda's married life was so boring 😴
I think that is the challenge the writers had keeping things exciting and writing good material for them being married.
