"I try to do the thing youtubers do", great paintjob and good take on space wolves without being the baby/sky blue. I'm currently using iron warriors underneath and then dark sea blue from vallejo with some warmish gray and working up from that. Produces a solid cobalt color
I like seeing the mistakes. Makes the work more relatable to my own experience painting minis. Also, I was very interested by your placement of the indigo over the Hull Red. You aren’t afraid to leave regions dark. That’s something I struggle with. Thanks.
I play and paint space wolfs for a lot of years, and I've never been happy with the colours I used. The were ok, but I wanted something else. Thanks to this video, I think I finally found an Idea that could suit me. So THANK YOU!!!! And the stippling of the shoulderpad.... Genius... I wanted to do a Parchment Shoulderpad, this is the best way to get it. Thanks Again!!!!
There is such an incredible amount to learn in this tutorial, Thank you. I wish there was time to have a break-out video of each technique you are showing here. The color theory of building up from dark brown red, to violet, to blue in such an organic manner, the wet-on-dry layering, the wet-on-wet layering, the stippling techniques, the correcting of mistakes with acrylics. I'm sure I'm missing several here but as a new painter this video is amazing.
"one thing led to another" words I've said to myself 100 times with minis..... great vid, really like your take on the Wulf Boyz with a "rougher" paint job and a more varied colour scheme.
It is not easy to find a style/look when you can paint a bit "dirty", not caring very much about perfect smooth blends, and enjoy looking at the mini next day without thinking i need to fix some detail. Because it is never a fix and never a detail.
Yo!! I love the videos! I like how you narrate your videos and show mistakes. no one shows that and how to fix them. thanks for the good video! I play/paint blood angels but ya gave me some great ideas! thank ya!
They look great! I especially like the shoulder pad, that color is really eye catching. I like how candid you are about screw ups and how you fix them (or don't fix them as the case may be); many if not most painters don't give that any attention at all, and that's an important thing to know is how to correct your screw ups. Nicely done as usual, Miss Stephanie!
Awesome job. Ive been a space wolves fan since rogue trader days . I have the old metal characters ragnar, logan, ulrik and lukas to repaint for my 5th/ 6th edition army so may try sone of the techniques u have here.
Looks great. I'd have never thought to try stippling like that on SM armour. Also when you mentioned messing up on the sword I knew EXACTLY what it was going to be. Can't even tell you how many power swords I've made a mess of trying to edge highlight that bit down the middle!
Great video, I love the stippling effect of the armor. It's also really great to see you include the blunders in the process too, just goes to show that we're all still learning and improving!
It's so cool to see how these turned out! Every time I think I've gotten better at painting I see stuff like this and it tells me how much further I have to go.
"Here's how to paint blue, start with red" - that threw me haha I keep seeing these on IG, and I'm so glad you've got the tutorial, I love that really stylised scheme
They look incredible, you have a natural free flowing painting style and produce so amazing miniatures as a result. Keep up the amazing work and all the best.
Brilliant stuff. Really like this style of painting and you seem so good at it. I've been a fan of your channel and your instagram almost since the very beginning. Love to see you grow and use your voice on your platforms. Keep up the good work Stephanie. I hope you hit at least 40k subs this year because you totally deserve it!
Thank you so much ❤️ it’s come a long way since there so it’s so great to know you’ve been around since the ~filming with my phone, throwing paint at minis~ stage :)) thanks for the support!
Great video! Think you really nailed the grim dark look of these miniatures! I am really not in the official baby blue looking guys. And an interesting way of using the paints - i will definetly give this a try. Thanks alot for saving this color scheme!
Love the look of your vlka fenryka! I really like what you did with the shoulder pads, I went blood maws but I’ll use the yellow for something I’m sure. 🤣
Wow, these look fantastic and just the video i needed. I painted some before but was never really happy with the result, thank you for this video. Liked & subscribed. Awesome stuff.
Love your painting style, the glazing and watery paint consistency is something I've avoided but to my eyes seems to give a super smooth look and gradients of colour compared to the more GW heavy metal style. Definitely going to try this out.
I really like your base armor colors. Lots of depth as the result ranges from lighter blues to purple tones. It’s easy for Space Wolves to wind up being dark and boring, but you’ve avoided that nicely. Great job.
Great painting really enjoyed the guide and that's honestly the first time I've seen stipling with very watered down paint, love the finish it gave. Also I could listen to you say Oxford Blue all day long :)
I feel your pain with those blades. I painted my Skaven weapons with the same technique, but with greens, to make it look like warpstone. Crikey was there so much cleanup.
God, they look incredible! The colours really remind me of the tones used in one of the recent Necromunda video games, a very cool effect. What I find really intriguing is that you start with a red and then purple basecoat for a grey model and it just works :D I really like the texture and contrast you get with the colours and with the stippling, defintely going to have to give that a go when ever I get my finger out to paint a model.
@@OrionsBeltMinis Colour theory is something I should really brush up on too, there's only so many times I can watch videos like yours or Not Just Mecha and continue to not bother!!! ;P
New sub! YT passed me from PeteTheWargamer! A wolves hobbyist here, I'm loving your gradients and the balance of weathering! I'm gonna try your technique of layering over black primer, I've been zenithal highlighting in white for nearly everything, but it's been giving a reqlly cartoony look. Decent for Orks, not as badass on my Primaris.
Great video! Great job! You've inspired me to come back to my Space Wolves army assembly. IDK if you are still struggling with the edge highlighting, but in this video it seems like it was too much water in the brush - you can gently drug your brush across the paper towel after you've loaded up some diluted paint. It should help :)
These turned out really well. I would recommend that you hit the decals with a matt varnish, or some such. It will dull the sheen and tie them in more with the paint work.
Really like the paint job and finished minis. Only thing I'd change is the water slide decals (transfers) need a gloss varnish underneath (which hides the clear edge of the decal) and finished with a matt varnish over the top (protecting the decal and removing the gloss finish). Strongly considering this technique for my new Death Guard.
Excellent paintwork! Not the the style i use, but still a really great result =). One thing though that instantly comes to mind, is about the transfers. I use vallejo decal softener, to "melt" the transfers so that they becomes a part of the miniature, i would recommend you try that. I never ever use the more complex thing with gloss varnish + decal fix + decal soft+ matt varnish. becouse decal soft + matt varnish(or lamian medium) is enough to get a great result. i have been painting SW since 1994, and i do have a few hundred models in my collection.
@@OrionsBeltMinis try it, and when it comes to rounded shapes, like shoulder pads, add a small amount, paint it over the decal. Then let it rest, repeat untill the decal is smooth and totaly "melted into" the shape. use a brush to smooth it out and to remove the air bubbles. Try it out on a spare bit untill you "master" it. =)
I love this video but felt there were some steps missed for beginners. Like what is a glaze and how to make it? Will you be doing a video for the other steps in the painting of these minis besides the armor?
Reivers are super cool! I've got a couple sets of them for Kill Team. How do you come up with your color ideas? I would have never thought to start grey armor with a red basecoat.
