Good to know I'm not the only one who "amends" his Top 5 (or 10) locos on a regular basis. I do enjoy your banter. Gotta agree with Pauline that steam locos are more interesting than diesels with their moving valve gear.
Not keen on the class 73. I wasn't even tempted when first Kernow & then Rails offered the latest Dapol models for under £90.
Can't get enough of the Deltics, though. I have 2 Limas, a Bachmann, plus an Accurascale on order. Your "improved" example looks very nice. Did you add the detail?
I have a maroon class 52. Mine's a Dapol, bought new for an excellent price. It was a Cheltenham Models exclusive that had obviously not sold in the quanties they had hoped. Love them. And yes, they do look German.
The only class 47 I have is the a Lima Merddyn Emrys in Tinsley blue livery. It looks great.
I wasn't tempted by the recent price reductions on Heljan class 33s either. Not a favourite of mine.
PS: I have a very unhealthy obsession with class 37s. I blame my childhood. I grew up in the South Wales coalfields, the son of a coal miner father. There seemed to be a 37 lurking around every track curve.
PPS: My Top 5 diesels right now are:
Bachmann class 37 Mary Queen of Scots in large logo livery with full yellow cab ends.
Dapol class 52, maroon livery with SYP.
Heljan class 14 in NCB light blue, Mardy Colliery.
Bachmann class 08s, 1 in Freightliner orange livery and the other in HNRC blue.
Lima class 20s, both in BR green, no yellow panels, limited editions with additional detail. Always run in tandem.

Class 73, known as EDs, - Electro Diesels, built for the SR, and as you said, they can run on diesel power on non electrified lines or off the 3rd rail.
The Diesel engine is only 600hp and the same enginevas used on the SR DEMUs on the Ashford - Hastings line, pretty weak but did the job, and on several other DEMUs of the SR.
    2 Types of EDs, - " JA's", 73/0s - 73001 - 73006, and "JB's", 73/1s - 73101 - 73142.
"JA's" and "JB's" cannot work in multiple with each other, as they have different equipment. Withdrawn by EWS, they couldn't wait to get rid of them, the 73/0s all went to Mersey Rail, and didn't last long there, whilst the 73/1s were put up for sale, and snapped up!
Several went to Loughborough for conversion to 73/9s, totally re engined, and can ve seen in Scotland now hauling the Cakedonian sleeper, but don't resemble their original looks, whilst Network Rail had a few, they ended up being sold on, most recently 2 acquired by Harry Needle, GBRf bought 2 for spares but ended up being restored to running order, GBRf hold the majority of class 73s, the 73/9s being used on Network Rail trains around the country , and 73/1s on RHTT trains in winter and all year tound on ballasts, several preserved too - a good general all round multi purpose loco - worked on the.for many years prior to privatisation.
73142 was always the "Royal Locomotive", and still runs today at 73201 from its former days as a Gatwick Exoress loco - the Pure Gateick Express dedicated locos, 73/2s, which had their diesel engines deliberately isolated on pure DC services - rather daft I thought as they coyod no longer get themselves out of trouble!
    Keep em coming

Hi Rick and Pauline ,, the great westerns are awesome looking trains the deltics are too and I have a few of them now in both lima and hornby.
I think the 33 classes are a good looking loco too. I bought one and was told it was a gr8 runner but that was sooo far from the truth with that one. The ring magnet in it was as soft as foam and was as not letting the commutator even turn a little bit and it also had a cracked and broken chassis so it look me a while but I patched it all up and its now a runner.
That little thing you can barely see should be called "Fleck" as in its soo damn small as a fleck in the metalic paint as in its that small u can bairly see it hahaha. I love the blue pullmans and the ones i bought are all different too and i think I payed 30 for the 5 of them.
If anyone tells you's that ya videos are rubbish tell em to get stuffed as they are good videos and some of the sound effects you put in them are good too like the gunshot sound effect woke me up from drifting off to sleep (not from boredom but its past midnight here in oz and iv had a big day) haha.
Keep up the good work on ya videos there you 2...

Ooh, Tizer, haven't tasted it for decades but it costs more than beer out here so not likely to happen.
My favorite diesels would have to be 31, 08, and Deltic. Oh the 105 DMU too as I used to travel on them a lot. I like my steam too much.
I did buy a Lima class 20 recently to fix up and paint green.

    Nice stove pipe collection😜
Pauline is a woman with class, because she bought two, that I could see, Orient Express coaches.
Pauline, spoiler alert, the murderer was the cook…🤣
Diesels and the only reason they still build them, is for the un-electrified rail starches.
Also the technologie improved over the years, like your car has evolved, and electronics played a big part in this.
Also the hybrids is something that has become very popular again, specially in goods traffic here in Europe, we call them last mile locos.
Reason for this, are a few facts, an electric loco is much more cost efficient, even with the new generation, they also act as generator, known as recuperation.
This occurs during breaking and on down hill starches, and if it runs on a AC system, it's the most effective.
But the cost to electrify the branch goods lines is too expensive, and a last mile loco is very efficient to overcome that problem, as it also saves on shunting operation etc..
The only problem you have when you want to do electrification, is the high cost to build the infrastructure, extra use of land, bridges not high enough, tunnels to small everything must be adapted to this system.
In the uk the first choice was a 3 rail, the positive thing with this system, you didn't need to build higher bridges and widen tunnels, the negative, is that this is very dangerous for the people who work on the rails and trespassers, so you at least need to fence off everything for the last group.
An other negative is, that the the higher your voltige is, the bigger the chance is that sparks fly over, and create a fire hazard, short cuts etc., so you're limited in your power supply.
The alternative is overhead line, but then you need to have the space and rebuild bridges and tunnels.
And there are two problems with electrification in general, the first one is history, in Europe and I include the UK in this as well, railways have evolved on a national level, and each had their electric system development closely connected to the top technologie available at that period, even worse unlike unified road codes, each country also has it's own signaling and regulation system.
Their are basically two electric motor types, the oldest type used, is the synchron motor, that runs on DC power (also found in diesel electric locomotives) and throughout Europe, this runs on different voltiges, due to that each country developed their own system over time and technologie, the oldest still used in the UK is the 720V DC 3 rail system, than the next generation is overhead line like in Belgium and Italy 3000V DC, the Netherlands 1500V DC.
Problem with DC is you need a lot of electric substations, high maintenance, and this makes it very expensive.
So Germany went for 15000V AC, France for 25000V AC, less substations, maintenance, and a build in rectifier translated AC in the loco into a DC voltige for the motors.
But the life span of a DC motor is short and results in high cost for maintenance.
And then we had the 70's, we were not sure if we needed trains anymore, cars, trucks and busses where the way to go in the 60's.
Until we realized that fossil fuels weren't unlimited, the independence on oil producing countries, became unavoidable, even worse these countries grouped up in OPEC and monopolized their prices.
Next thing was the pollution problem they caused.
So French engineers started to reinvent the electrical locomotive, and the time was just right electronics made it possible to use asynchron motors, low maintenance much more powerful and the TGV was born.
It's so fast even, that If you build a unified European network, European flying became complete obsolete.
The only thing preventing this, is the patchwork of European rail infrastructure and regulations, and everybody wanted to have a say in this, and each country thinks their system was the best, and then you have the big rail supply companies, who developed each their system, and the high cost of course, it brings with it, makes it in my view the first reason why everybody is so hesitant and wanted to see their system in place.
But the only reason they still want a unified system, is the pressure of ecology and all the overpopulated roads, that could bring unified rail traffic back on the table again.
Downside in this, they wast to reach this with high train fares, and a customer who has to pays for this all, and that doesn't work.
In my view fares must be super cheap, and the more customers you get to depend on this, the more income you get.
It would be great if we were all would able to get rid of this Tower of Babel and focus on a unified system.
Would this be possible, could make it to a primary transport again, look at Japan, the pearl of HST rail infrastructure, super efficient and affordable.
    Cheers,
    Danny
